Apparently Sarah showed up at this conference and spent the entire speech talking about politics, and slamming President Obama, while saying absolutely NOTHING about real estate and completely baffling her audience.
This weekend, 2012 Presidential candidate Sarah Palin delivered a keynote address at the 2010 ICSC RECon conference, a retail real estate conference in Las Vegas.
Of course, whenever a conference has a speaker like this, the draw is the speaker's celebrity power, not their glints of insight about the actual topic at hand.
Still, you kind of expect the speaker to tailor their speech a little bit to the crowd.
Apparently in this case that didn't happen. Mainly she just delivered a stump speech.
As somebody who has listened to WAY TOO MANY Palin speeches I do not find this too surprising. That is until I got to THIS part.
Sarah Palin, the former governor of Alaska, said at the ICSC RECon show in Las Vegas that President Obama has an addiction problem. He’s addicted to OPM (pronounced by her as “opium”), she said, referring to an acronym for Other Peoples’ Money.
WTF? Are we to believe this was simply a slip of the tongue, or is this another sneaky little Palin attack on our President? I mean WHO even uses the acronym OPM in a speech?
Palin has insinuated Barack Obmaa cozies up with domestic terrorists, that he is attempting to destroy America, and she even supported the "birthers" at one point. Do we really believe that it is beneath her to make the allegation that our President is a drug addict?
Well you are free to come to your own conclusions about that!
There is no "beneath" when it comes to Sarah Palin. Every time I think she's reached rock bottom, more vileness squirms out.

I have a hard time believing that all these dues-paying members, whether they be bowling alley operators, or wine and spirit sellers are all Teabaggers who are just dying to hear this woman's canned drivel about her hatred of President Obama (good Lord crazy woman, play another note already, we get it, everyone would be soooo much better off under your tyrannical reign. Ha!) People go to these conferences to learn more about the latest innovations in their field, not to hear her anti-government Campaign '08 redux bullchips.
There is no way in hell I would pay to help keep up her delusions.
Have people really taken collective leave of their senses? If I were a member of this group -- or any other non-political professional organization, I would demand my dues money back immediately and renounce my membership.
It must of really hurt Palin to loose the presidency to President Obama. Johnny Boy got over it , but not old Sarah. She will go to her grave screaming, "I HATE OBAMA!"

There is a rule in psychology where the speaker blames someone else for their own faults. If anyone is addicted to Other Peoples Money, I suggest that it is Sarah who just scammed the Shopping Mall owners into paying her to deliver the same speech that she never bother to prepare. They actually pay her to snarl and vent her anger. What a racket.

Judging from her frantic style of speaking, waving around her arms and hands and gasping instead of breathing, I guess it is either a not-so-well disguised panic attack or someone is addicted to something that speeds up the body. It could be more than Red Bull.
It is pretty clear that Sarah has never gotten over the loss in 2008. If Sarah tries to run for president in 2012, that emotion is going to get in the way of running a serious campaign. She is still that 13 year old girl in the locker room, overhearing that the guy she had a crush on asked someone else out on a date. We have all been in a situation where someone else got the job, got the date, or won the title of Miss Alaska. Being an adult means learning from the experience, and moving on. Sarah is still stuck in the locker room, holding back the tears and vowing to get even.
(You can bet that her "winning at any cost" is what is behind the way that Levi Johnston is being treated, too, ya betcha.)
This is not her first usage of OPM, nor the first time she has pronounced it as Opium. The previous times I don't recall if she was referring to Washington (government) in general or Obama in particular. It has previously been ignored as just another bit of Palin drivel, and isn't an indicator that she's going newk-yoo-lar.

ReplyDeleteSarah Palin found a receptive audience in Las Vegas today when she spoke to some of the 30+ thousand convention attendees who packed room N1 in the Las Vegas Convention Center. An hour before she was to speak, already hundreds were lined up, waiting in the north hall to get in.
ReplyDeleteThe International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) is having their 2010 RECon Convention at the convention center and invited her as guest speaker for the opening day general session. Michael P. Kercheval, CEO and president of ICSC, opened the session. Peter Sharpe, ICSC Chairman, then introduced Sarah Palin, who made her typical entrance, waving to the crowd and smiling.
With a room full of business owners and property developers, she quickly mentioned her admiration for the entrepreneurial spirit that has always provided the bulk of this country's jobs. She spoke of the tremendous pride which comes from building a business where there was none before, providing work for the owner and ultimately for other people as well.
She reminded the retail crowd of a historic success story - Steven V. Harkness, born in 1818, who started many small businesses after humble beginnings as a harness maker. After also successfully operating a distillery, a bank and then an oil company, in 1890 he opened what she referred to as the first mall in this country - The Cleveland Arcade.
She then recounted when the first mall opened in her home town of Wasilla, Alaska. The economic impact of that mall was so apparent as she said every high school student got their first job working somewhere in that mall. With the wages they earned, the kids were able to finance their sports team's trips. "The mall actually became the center of the town" she said.
Heavy applause rocked the room when she declared that "every politician should be forced to operate a small business before being allowed to hold office. Doing that develops a real work ethic," she added. She generated a good amount of laughter as she said "Right now, so many politicians are addicted to opium, that's spelled O-P-M, which stands for 'Other People's Money.' And with that addiction comes the thinking that the money will always be there, and that you can always take it from somewhere or someone else, and not actually have to produce before you receive."
Again, applause was forthcoming as she suggested that "the best thing government can do is to foster an environment friendly to business and then get out of the way, letting business owners do what they do best." She described her position as being "anti-over-reach of government" and preferring instead, the "incentivizing of business to help the community thrive."
She hit yet another chord of agreement when she decried the government picking winners and losers in the private sector (cue more applause), stating that "the free market worked best when there is competition and a level playing field for Mom and Pop businesses as well as big business."
After defending her "Drill, baby, drill" philosophy, she steered the conversation to Nashville and how they are emerging from their recent floods. "They aren't waiting for government bail-outs," she said. With the spirit that makes this country so grand, people are just pitching-in, helping their neighbors clean up and start again. It's that spirit of hard work and determination that will save this country, she pointed out.
After speaking for 45 minutes, the hockey-mom turned Fox News commentator then walked the edge of the stage, talking with convention attendees and signing copies of her book that people brought with them.
Listening to conversations as people left the hall, it seemed that she said all the right things to a crowd of people who desperately want the economy to come back, so their businesses might prosper once again.
'OPM' was the title of a 1991 movie starring Danny DeVito and Gregory Peck.

No one with an ounce of integrity or brains would believe that Simple Sarah has anything of value to offer. She must be totally obsessed with PRESIDENT Obama if she is bringing up his name in a forum where no one would expect it to be brought up. The only explanation for this obsession would be the hate and bitterness at having been on the losing presidential team in 2008. There are only a few things in her repertoire. She adds a new sound bite now and then, to make it look like she's up on current issues, but not enough to fool most of us. Maybe it's just me, but in recent pictures I have seen of Palin, it looks like the ugliness of the inner woman is beginning to be reflected in her face. Her hatred of the president and of others is corrosive, and it looks like it's eating her from within. I have a feeling that when she is no longer considered attractive, she will fade into oblivion. But I hope she does something so egregious that the oblivion will come soon. She can't fade away quickly enough.

My husband writes CEO speeches, they pay him because they care about doing a great job, AND they are not paid for these speeches so it is money out of their pockets, but they are professionals.

She's telling the world about herself and how she is addicted to OPM. This is one way to track how a sociopath is thinking and feeling--their way of public confession hidden in an accusation.

Her favorability numbers have steadily gone down hill since 2008 and so have donations to her PAC. Even on conservative message boards, you will see MANY negative comments about Sarah. People call her rhino, and Interested only in money. The fans she has left are the truly faithful. Sarah could admit Trig isn't hers and that she's had affairs and they would make excuses for her.

Steve Schmidt let us know that she could not. Then, conservative talk show hosts advised Sarah to spend her time studying, and she hasn't. She can't. She can't focus. (ADDH?)

ReplyDeleteI also thought of a strategy for the MSM to make life very uncomfortable at Fox. We know how egotistical O'Reilly is, especially about his ratings, and seems to care about intellect. So everytime he appears with and/or interviews Palin, the media should make a point to list his name along with her idiotic statements and eventually he won't want to be connected to her, and will probably turn on her, dissing her openly.
Then watch Palin throw O'Reilly under the bus and a major media fight will ensue, putting Murdock in the middle for more drama. In fact I'm surprised she hasn't "Gone Rogue" on Fox yet but she's a cash cow for them so they'll put up with her crap until her popularity tanks.
SP does act manic - either from mental illness or pharmaceuticals or both. I don't think she is a meth user, though. People who use meth have a very distinctive look to them, and she doesn't have the look. Personally, I think she has a histrionic personality disorder and is a sociopath.

I read these small news items and wonder why the rest of the story isn't included. If it was, she would have been outed as the idiot she is 2 years ago. As it is, people are starting to wake up to the fact that she is woefully unqualified to be POTUS.
