Chris Matthews asks "Is Sarah Palin the most important Republican in the country?"

This was on the Chris Matthews show this morning.

What do you think?

Part One

Part two

Personally I kind of hope that Matthews is right. If Palin is the best that the Republicans come up with, then the party is essentially in it's death throes.

I just want to know did Sarah give birth to Trig? How hard can that answer be but no one seems to really know.

  2. If Sarah Palin is the best of the republicans, then they have truly "jumped the shark".

Katty Kay said "(Palin) doesn't want to do anything to damage her public brand". Yeah, okay, she may not "want" to damage her brand, but when she (Palin) opens her mouth, there's irreparable damage done. $P is an idiot.

It is disheartening to hear discussions about her stature and potential run for the presidency.. the same clip could have been used to illustrate that before she quit, she:

-Abused her power in a personal vendetta against her ex-brother in law, Mike Hooten.

-Was forced to refund the State for her children unofficial travel expenses.

_ Used her position of Gov. for personal gain.

And not a word about her incoherent, hateful speeches.

It is frustrating beyond words having to wait for elections 2012 to see what happens to the demonic Sarah.

A part of me would love to see her run in 2012. I'm so mad at how she divides people, disrespects our president and spreads hate, lies, and racism everywhere she goes. Her perverted religion scares me. I think her own party will see to it she never gets the nomination. And I'd love to watch that show - watch her run and get publicly destroyed.

But I'm also old enough to have learned to be careful what we wish for. Karma is a bitch and even the best plans can backfire.

The reason that the MSM is not anxious to expose Sarah's Trig story, or say unkind things about her is that she is what the newspaper business would call "good copy." She shows up on a TV show and the ratings go up. She wears a visor in Hawaii and she's headline material. The MSM love having Sarah to write about because it's easy, and she generates plenty of emotion on both sides.

I have heard Chris Matthews adore Sarah's natural instincts to work a crowd and deplore her for not being smart and not making an attempt to learn anything.

For a while, a celebrity like Paris Hilton was famous for just being famous. She bragged that nightclubs paid her $10,000. just to show up and generate a buzz for the place. Sarah is a joke. She is overpaid to give speeches that would rate a failing grade in a speech class. She accuses the MSM of making things up, and then garbles her facts in her own speech. She has not followed the advice of serious Republicans who told her to travel and learn. Sarah faked her way through her mayoral duties by hiring a city manager. She quit two different jobs in Alaska, and is one of the least qualified people to consider running for any public office. But, she attracts a big crowd, contributions and media. To the Republicans, those are already qualifications.

OK - it's 'tomorrow' here on the East Coast. You can put up the new post you said you were working on. Come on Gryph. I need my beauty sleep.

Why do they keep talking about her like she is viable? Omg....her speeches on Friday, last night and now tonight are disastrous and how can they not call her out on all her bs? Unbelievable. At the very least they should point out how stupid she is and at the very most they should point out her discrepancies on her "positions". Gawd...she contradicts herself in the same speech all the time.

    That's what I think.

I hope she runs in 2012 - her own party will rip her to shreds. You have to believe the Republican machine has investigated every 'gate' there is; and has plenty of material to bury her.

I think the big ones will be:

Baby-Gate ( a total slew of lies that keeps getting longer)

    House-Gate (Accepting illegal kickbacks)

Tad-Gate (Having an abortion (another man's child) and then altering (white-out) the records to say 'miscarriage)

Those are just a few, there are many, many more skeletons in her closet.

Someone who is a noxious blend of ignorance and arrogance, like Palin, will be fatal to the GOP if she's the best they can do. She has already done irreparable damage to her own image every time she opens her big, flapping mouth to utter yet more inanities. But her "stature" is the inevitable outcome of how a large number of Americans value appearance over substance, and is also the inevitable result of dumbing down in this country.

I will always blame McCain for foisting her on us, but I also blame the cynicism of the GOP and the irresponsibility of the media for her completely unwarranted rise in status. She is more of everything that the presidency of GW should have taught all of us to reject.

Veering slightly O/T: The more I read HuffPo, the more I think that they're "in the bag" for Missy SP, perhaps getting skimmed by her $$backers$$. Just speculatin'. However, I observed that there were a couple of top stories with fairly negative Obama headlines over the weekend (remember that Rachel listed his accomplishments late last week) and at least THREE or FOUR Palin stories on their main--including the CSU screech, er, speech. NO mention of the negative open mic remarks by reporters, though--except by the commenters. It seems that when the POTUS is actually able to make some positive headway, up go the snarky articles/unflattering photos on Pres. O. and up go the bits about the "crazy" that look as if they're validating her. I also noticed that they're VERY careful of the SP pix used when the commenters point out how nutsiod and off-balance she appears lately. Hmmm....interesting.

But I'm heartened by the voluminous number of commenters who KNOW what a dingbat she is, some who have figured out what game seems to be playing out on HP--and it can't just be for "clicks". We ARE in the majority. VOTE. THEM. OUT. IN. NOVEMBER...and if the 2012 Palin POTUS run actually happens, it will provide hours of fun for the entire family rather than frustration.

And, since I've been having problems logging in with my usual name, I'll sign this:

Amazing to see intelligent journalists discussing Palin as though she were a legitimate leader.

  14. Please, someone explain to me what Sarah's "brand" is.

And yes, Sarah is what newspapers call a "human interest" story because she is a train wreck. Are we guilty of being rubberneckers?

In answer to Chris Matthews' question:

No. She is just the biggest freak show they have.

And Anonymous 8:38 just gave all the reasons why. Those are the reasons she is still in the news. And MSM is just milking this cash cow for all she's worth. GOOD COPY, folks! That's all she provides.

Sarah is a useful "placeholder" for the Repugs. (Read: Jeb Bush.)She can make irrational anti statements without hurting anyone else' credentials. Once her usefulness to the Repugs is done she will meet the usual fate of their tools: suicide, death by airplane, major scandal exposure, jailing. What they may not realize it that they have created a "monster" who may try to turn on its creator and handlers.

Besides all the MANY skeletons in her closet, Palin killed any chance she had in 2012 by, uh QUITTING as Governor halfway through her term. Period. End of story. When the going got tough, the wimp got going.

Love and Knishes, months ago I noticed HP is pro $p and stopped going there unless Malia. or Mr. Dunn sends me an e-mail about their post. You are exactly right about HP, and I have commented to HP, as well as, on other blogs about this issue. Lee

I believe it's important for people who are seriously interested in the truth to continue to comment and speak out when confronted with paylin bs wherever it shows up, tv talking heads, radio and internet. The thing to remember is ratings, therefore power and money, are the true goal and certainly not the good of the country.

  21. This quote from one of the attendees at Palin's freedom fest appearance in Norfolk last night makes me feel sad and discouraged:-

"We’ve been registered Democrats for 30 years," said Ronnie Cooper, who drove up with his wife from Currituck County, N.C. "The party has lost its way. It’s been taken over by a bunch of left-leaning, socialist ideologues. Sarah Palin and the tea party look like the answer."

There seems to be, no matter how manic or insane Palin gets, folk who have no problem accepting her brand of poison. Why???

Anon 4:02, that is correct. The others are dull or odious: Romney, snooze, Huckster, Pawlenty, De Mint, Santorum.....yeah, I guess if I were them I would report on screechy too.

Chris Matthews is "enamored" by her looks. He was out there banging the drum for George Bush and Rudy Giuliani based on nothing more than their supposed "toughness" while he derided both Al Gore and Hillary Clinton night after night during the primaries.

He says he is fair minded but deep down he is propping up Miss Malaprop but giving her credence in an underhanded way. Can't stand him.

My God! Thanks for putting this up. I had not seen it. I am astounded with Chris "she is nothing but an empty vessel" Matthews. Looking at this panel of people - no journalist here - I am reminded of the movie One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest at group therapy time.

Not one person speculating about Palin here has taken the time to listen to anything other than sound bites. Palin's brand is divisiveness and ignorance. She's not complicated, very obvious.

  26. I don't know about the most important Republican in the country, but she is the most visible. The Republicans need to decide if this is a good thing.

Who is the most visible Democrat? Is it Hillary Clinton? (President Obama is, but he's the POTUS so of course he is visible.) What is it about Hillary that we like her for? She's a diplomat! She knows when to open her mouth! She makes every word count. During Bill’s public SNAFU, Hillary hardly acknowledged it if she did. Was she humiliated or did she know of her husband’s indiscretions? (I think she knew.) They like each other—the two of them seem to genuinely enjoy each other. Maybe I don’t “get” their marriage, but she has a great deal of dignity and is down to business.

SP sold her soul to the greater good for SP. She never left her male dominated church. I think that either Sean or Todd were running things when she was the governor. Sean never cleaned house because he may have chosen the people SP selected. Did she erect the Great Wall between herself and him that has been normal with the elected governors and their Lt’s? I think her governorship was a sham. Sean couldn’t have handled a real debate with anyone, and she got elected so he ran things. SP 1.0 has people who make a collective living off her—she does what they say not to make her look good but to jack up fees for speeches where she pays them cuts for running her life. Probably just like the people who run the lives of the other pop-tarts who dominate our headlines on slow news days.

What does the popularity of SP 1.0 say about American culture?
