From Yahoo News:
Hundreds of thousands of gallons more oil gushed into the Gulf of Mexico on Wednesday after an undersea robot bumped a venting system and forced BP to remove the cap that had been containing some of the crude.
When the robot bumped the system, gas rose through the vent that carries warm water down to prevent ice-like crystals from forming, Coast Guard Adm. Thad Allen said.
The cap was removed just before 10 a.m. Wednesday and crews were checking to see if crystals had formed before putting it back on. Allen did not say how long that might take.
"There's more coming up than there had been, but it's not a totally unconstrained discharge," Allen said.
In the meantime, a different system was still burning oil on the surface.
Before the problem with the containment cap, it had collected about 700,000 gallons of oil in 24 hours. Another 438,000 gallons was burned.
The current worst-case estimate of what's spewing into the Gulf is about 2.5 million gallons a day.
Jesus, the news just keeps getting worse and worse.
Fucking idiots.
ReplyDeleteit is spilling the equal of Exxon Valdez every three to four days...
ReplyDeletewhat a fucking mess...
does this mean the prayer thingy didnt work?
ReplyDeleteThis can't be be possible! Sarah Palin prayed the problem away. Some liberal greenie must be makin' stuff up.
ReplyDeleteThe oil gushing reminds me of Paylin; we know of nothing that can contain her . . . I mean, it. It's just like her running off at the mouth - we haven't yet found anything that can shut her up . . . I mean, shut it off!
ReplyDeleteThose people who want drilling to continue are the very same people who want her to continue in politics. Comparing the damage the oil spill has done to the Gulf is the same as comparing the damage Paylin has done to our country! We need to shut off the spill - just like we need to shut her off/up.
MORONS = BP and Paylin!!!
This is just out of control. Am really worried that we all don't realize yet how this could be a disaster of biblical proportions.
ReplyDeleteI want to believe it will be capped and stopped, but it gives one a helpless feeling knowing it's spewing into the clean clear waters and no one can do anything about it yet.
How far will it reach before stopped? Am worried about the rivers and streams, rain being affected. The gaseous odor near the coasts - the rich property-owners won't be able to discharge of their homes; the values will plummet and more importantly, the livelihoods of people who rely on work near coasts, on water, is gone. That would mean an exodus of people having to relocate and move inland and the impact on the economy....all the while the eco-system ruined.
And Mexico's coasts are not yet affected but if the spill reached their shores, that country would be hit hard.
So much for "divine" intervention.
ReplyDeleteDRILL, BABY, DRILL! (I can't believe that there are actually people still advocating this insanity...)
ReplyDeleteThis is making me want to scream. BP's incompetence is staggering . . . .
