Rand Paul may be the poster child for Teabagger hypocrisy.

From Kentucky.com:

Paul, the Republican nominee, has been paid $130,461 in Medicaid funds since 2006, about one-third of the sum that he billed the program, according to the state Cabinet for Health and Family Services, which administers that program. Doctors' Medicaid billings often are disputed in part, leading to smaller payments than they requested.

Paul's campaign refused to say Friday how much he gets from Medicare. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services said it does not release such information to protect the privacy of doctors who are paid with public funds.

But Paul's campaign confirmed that he receives far more funding from Medicare than Medicaid, and roughly half of his medical income comes from the two programs.

On the campaign trail, Paul calls for the abolition of entire agencies, such as the U.S. Department of Education, while complaining that Medicare payments to doctors have been cut too deeply, making it one of the few government expenses he consistently defends.

"Physicians should be allowed to make a comfortable living," Paul told supporters in Louisville in May, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Paul's campaign chairman, David Adams, said the candidate's political and personal stances are not inconsistent. Paul is sincerely critical of government spending, but being an eye surgeon essentially requires him to accept Medicare and Medicaid patients, Adams said.

You know stuff like this just leaves me slack jawed. Rand Paul seems to have NO problem suggesting that the government disband the Department of Education and force hundreds of thousands of teachers out of their jobs. Yet without missing a beat he can turn around and bitch that cuts to Medicare are unfair because he needs money for a less ratty looking toupee.

"I want to cut wasteful government spending.  Just not wasteful government spending that affects me!"  Let's see how THAT looks on a campaign bumper sticker!

By the way I also believe that the Medicare program does not work very effectively and that it should increase how much it pays out to physicians.  However I also believe that the public school system is a vital program in this county, and if I had to choose between keeping teachers employed or making sure that Rand Paul received more money that would be an easy choice for me.

And this guy is the prodigal son of the Teabagger movement?  You know I think that tells me just about everything I need to know about them.  How about you?

Update: Of course next to this guy Rand Paul seems almost reasonable.

His stance on this seems consistent with the hypocritical views of most Tea Baggers: smaller government, get rid of all entitlements except those that affect me.

Those folks are just fine with Medicare, Medicaid, unemployment and farm subsidies if they are on the receiving end. They cannot use their own needs to feel empathy for those who need help in different ways. What a sad, stupid, and selfish way to live.

  2. "Help for me, but not for thee."

    It is teabaggers' battle cry.

Cut welfare, but don't touch wingnut welfare (bailing out Wall Street).

Bootstraps! Accountability! All hail the Invisible Hand of the Market! And then we get Maria Bartiromo on MSNBC the other day shilling for BP, saying that if the company's stock goes down, lots of people's portfolios (read: hers) will be devalued, and besides, the company employs lots of Americans, so we need to hold back the vitriol and not be so mean. Really.

Rand Paul is not just a hypocrite, he's a stupid hypocrite.

The really sad thing is---I don't think that is a toupee.

Better yet: I want to cut wasteful spending, just not the wasteful spending that amounts to two thirds of the federal budget...(When you count the defense budget.) Smart...

Also, it should be noted that he's not a board-certified. Nutty McRand decided to create another certification board "with other physicians"...although he's the president, his wife is VP and his father-in-law is secretary...

  5. Not to mention the fact that Rand Paul isn't a legitimately board-certified opthalmologist! Most recent update on this posted by AP an hour ago: http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5gQDJZWWxqciDeD6NXa1ZGr3yKIFgD9GB8TSO0

So Rand Paul is a glorified "Dr." LensCrafter, and raking in the Medicaid bucks while he does so!

  6. the fact he is an MD and surgeon makes me think of only ONE thing. Weird Al's version of Madonnas, "Like a Sturgeon".

As a medical laboratory tech, I had to get the appropriate degree, pass a board certified exam, and have to recertify every three years. That is, all techs have to earn 36 credits from any of various approved sources to prove that we are keeping educated and up to date with our tech knowledge. If I don't update my certification, I can't work in a lab.

Not only is Ayn Randy using false advertising but if his certification is not valid can he practice as a physician?

After years of study and analysis, I've come up with a simple formula. I've tested it for 2 years, and so far it has been %100 accurate:

    Fox libertarian = Hypocritical A-hole

Fox libertarians never discuss social issues, because the FOX-tards' heads would explode if they expressed libertarian views on social issues.

Anymore, libertarianism is just a cover for rehashing that old Reagan era 'greed is good' mantra. I hate these guys, I really do. They are the worst of the worst.

OK, I guess I was seriously late with my above post...

Question: If he is not ABO certified, how come he was able to get paid by Medicaid/Medicare (and by any other insurance companies?) ???

  12. in typical rightwingnut style, this clown just makes up a national board of ophthalmology and deems himself board certified.

btw, between his beatnick hair and turtleneck, he looks to me like a closeted liberal hipster ;)

In order to claim that he is board certified, Rand Paul (his wife, mom and dad) had to make up his own board to certify himself. Yes, he approved himself. Those are great credentials.

The runner up to Jack Conway Democrat, received more votes than Paul received. Hopefully, Jack Conway will win in Nov. Not all in Ky are like the Pauls and $p.

Gryph - can you please put up another post so I don't have to see Rand Paul's face and stupid hair every time I check in?

    Thanks a bunch.

  19. And he apparently isn't Board Certified as he claimed.

I know it's hypocritical of me to mock Carly "How's Your HP stock investment doing?" Fiorina's hairdo while admiring Rand Paul's, but that's just the way it is. Maybe the fact that he proudly rocks that muskrat on his head and gains mega-bagger support give me hope that I can succeed in life with my prominent Monty Burns hump, multiple horn-like facial growths, severe Tourette's Syndrome, ruffled eyelids and weeping scalp sores. Good luck, Rand! Folks like us just gotta stick together!

Gotta say that when I brought this post up, Dr.(?) Paul looks like a demented Danny Kaye in that pic. Too bad this man doesn't possess the late Mr. Kaye's kind heart and humanitarianism.

Everytime I see a picture of that man all I can think is "Beam me up, Scotty"! How can you take anyone seriously that does seem to know the difference between being on national television and going to a Star Trek convention? And then he opens his mouth....
