Well I know what I will be watching this afternoon.

MSNBC's "Rise of the New Right":

I feel I already know a substantial amount of information about this movement yet even just watching these clips I find myself again surprised by the level of anger and the frightening fact that they are literally considering an armed response against their own government.

I keep finding myself going from considering these people ridiculous to worrying that they might actually end up really hurting somebody, or getting themselves killed in a shootout with the authorities and causing MORE people to want to join and do violence in the way that the incident at at WACO inspired Timothy McVeigh to  blow up the Murrah building in Oklahoma city.

Somehow I don't think that after watching this special I am going to feel much better about the Teabaggers.

This is not the rise of the new right. They've always been there. Now they have target(s) they can all agree on: black president, brown people taking "their" jobs. Mostly these are folks who never realized the American dream, which was supposed to be bestowed on them without effort, since they're the chosen people. They certainly don't feel they should have to compete like the rest of us. Imagine black folks behaving like the teabaggers and this new right. Only in America can the ignorance and violence of the majority be elevated and revered.

  2. At this point with all their cries for violence, figure let them revolt. We've got guns too. And we have a rather large Military that exists to stop armed people from taking over.
At best the cry of "The Teabaggers are revolting" will be met with the answer, "You can say that again."

Why is anyone surprised? Since President Obama won the election, the hate groups have been growing more outspoken and given fuel from right-wing talk shows on the radio and on cable. Fox News has dedicated itself to energizing these people and to elevating people like Beck, Hannity, Palin and others to prime time so their message of fear and hate can be fostered.

Anyone who is surprised at the intensity and size of these groups has not been paying attention. I remember people being upset when a government report warned us of this. No one wanted to pay attention.

Extreme evangelicals have been right at the forefront, wanting to be regarded as Warriors of Christ. The Dominionist movement seeks the overturning of the government and our culture as we know it. This is not news, people.

I think, though, if Chris Matthews special does anything, it might wake those who have been dozing or distracted by other things back to focus on this very real problem.

That said, I hope this does not give birth to a wave of fear. Fear will not allow us to address the problem. Fear will play into the hands of these extremists. Saying we have guns, too, is not going to quell their madness. It will incite more. People need to get a realistic grip on the problem and address it through legal means.

o/t yet Christian with OIL: WikiLeaks to Release Video of Deadly US Afghan Attack
Whistleblowing website says it is still working to prepare the film of the bombing of the Afghan village of Garani in May 2009

The whistleblowing website WikiLeaks says it plans to release a secret military video of one of the deadliest US air strikes in Afghanistan in which scores of children are believed to have been killed.
WikiLeaks announced the move in an email to supporters. It said it fears it is under attack after the US authorities said they were searching for the site's founder, Julian Assange, following the arrest of a US soldier accused of leaking the Afghanistan video and another of a US attack in Baghdad in which civilians were killed.

  9. these people are not new ... but they used to at least attempt to keep a low profile.

Sharron Angle and Rand paul and Sarah Palin and Michele Bachmann should all be medicated and under constant supervision.

while I appreciate MSNBC running this piece, I think 99.9% of the audience already knows all of this.

I'd like to make sure that all Americans are aware of what is happening

You had me laughing, sjk! Yup, ya can't live in Arizona anymore if you're not armed. I'm with you.

This has been coming for a long time, but it's nothing new. PBS just had a special on about Andrew Jackson and his underhanded campaign against more intellectual and "liberal" John Adams. Jackson won, of course, and that gave legitimacy to the right wingnuts of his time.

My family started seeing this odd behavior when we were on the board of our local neighborhood association. We were all volunteers who wanted to build friendships and have a liaison with the city regarding future development, liquor licenses and big box retailers.

However, angry citizens started showing up accusing us of having some kind of nefarious power with the city and were secretly big brothers and agents of the government. This was back in 2000-2004.

The monster has been unleashed everywhere from the little local community to the White House.

We can win and out last this thing if we don't lose the internet AND if we can get liberals and young people, in particular, to keep voting and speaking out.

My college journalism professor (yes, but it only took Me 4 years and one college) wrote a book about this 25 years ago.

I'm still waiting for Handmaid's Tale to come true. These people look & act so much like the General & his wife.

The best defense is a good offense: teach and extend the handof friendship. Humanize them, and encourage them to humanize you. The more we think "neighbor" instead of "other", the better the future will be.

I would never watch MSNBC. Try TBN for a change. If you don't believe that Bristol is the best mother just read her latest press release. Her writing is eloquent. You people put this to rest now and leave the joint custody parents alone. I beg you Gryphen not to jump on the band wagon about Bristol and her abstinence-only speech assignments. She is a good daughter in spite of being a little frisky at times. She will marry her true love no matter how rough the road was. I am so happy for Tripp. That is all that matters. Please give them all time to get out in front of this on their own, in their own time. Bristol will prove her leadership qualities as her mother, Sarah, is doing. It takes time. Be patient.

Sorry to be off-topic, but have already submitted a comment on the post. I am now just reacting to someone else's comment.

Wow - what a snide remark from SP in the article referenced by 2:35! Thanks for the link.

Here it is a kickass remark by SP: “He’s a kid. He’s misguided,” Palin said in November. “I can’t wait until he comes back on that right road of wanting to be part of the family and Tripp’s life.”

Man, she should have said The Family because it sure sounds like she's the head of an organization that Levi must bow and scrape to in order to see his son. The "right road" indeed - she means whatever She wants Levi to do.

Plus, the following: "After a drawnout court battle, a judge ordered Johnston to pay child support and more than $10,000 for Tripp’s care." Makes it sound like Levi was fighting against taking care of his son. That's not the case, is it?

Sarah is still out to take down Levi. I fear Tripp is the weapon of choice with Bristol taking careful aim. I worry Levi is being silenced for the short-term and will lose everything long-term.

Still, he has the right and need to make his own decisions. It's just so hard to see how the Palin's are manipulating his genuine concern for his son.

  16. This type of hatred is always around - but the scary thing now is the rich folks using faux news and others are able to get the message of hate and lies out there to a larger group and folks can ban together easier now - those who either refuse and\or unable to think for themselves or to educate themselves with facts just want to follow those who actually use them and lying to them.

It has been a difficult hour to watch - but it was important - we all to stay motivated and work to keeping intelligent people who actually want to protect the citizens (rather than corporations) in office.

  18. Tweety's "New Right" was a rip-off of John Amato's "Over the Cliff."

not a shock that he couldn't bring himself to give any credit.

BTW, Tweety, these people aren't new. They've been around forever. It's just that you phuquetards in the MSM seem compelled to give them a huge stage with a bright light 24/7 - and make them sound like something other than exactly what they are ... a fringe minority

Gryph, you surprise me. How can you not believe there is a shadow government? It has been proven that there were bombs planed in the Murrah building, even news reports of them being taken out after the initial blast. McVeigh could have never blown up the building from the inside out with his truck full of explosives on the OUTSIDE of the building. Sheesh, you probably have never heard of the Architects and Engineers for 9/11 Truth! Do some research on your own and stop listening to corporate-owned and operated mainstream media. MSNBC is as bad as FOX, both just mouthpieces of the corporate-owned and operated government. Seriously, do some reading, turn of the tube. Love, A Fan

  21. I found it very very ho hum. I was looking forward to some insight or new information but it just seemed like a rehash of the past year or so.

Matthews didn't offer any wisdom or even any strong opinions and his lead up to the special was misleading - I didn't come away with anything extra like he said we would. Although I must say I dislike Chris Matthews very much and am constantly amazed that this man has a prime time gig - he's a democratic puppet, a schill, boring and irritating. Occasionally when I find he is doing okay for a little while he will then follow it up with Obama ass kissing. My final straw with him was him hosting Barney frank after the flotilla raid. It was disgusting - a display of pure Israel worship and puppetry and he is no journalist.

I do not for one minute underestimate their capacity to do great damage in this country. I have read many hateful, rightwing comments calling people who disagree with them Commies, Marxists, Black Nationalists, etc. People with that much hatred are impossible to reason with, and they are the ones that Sarah Palin appeals to. As silly and juvenile as she is, Palin is a master at appealing to the worst fears and basest prejudices of some Americans. It's not reassuring to say that they are a "minority," because some of them have even threatened violence against political figures, mainly Obama.

To Anon 10:24pm - You're right. We don't get 'news'
from the mainstream media in the US. Europeans -
both eastern & western, besides the citizens in countries we're told are 'backward,' are far better informed about what's really going on in the world & in the US than it's own citizens are here. Short wave & alternative web sites are where I get the news. You'll find though, most of America is quite content not to look beyond msnbc, etc. for information.
