From Jews For Sarah:
Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin’s hair, with its straight bangs, beehive top and cascading locks, is proving popular among [ . . . ] some Orthodox Jewish women.
And in an Orthodox Jewish neighborhood in Brooklyn, the look has become popular among some Orthodox Jewish women, who buy wigs to cover their hair for religious reasons. Made of human hair, the Palin-style wigs cost $695 or more.
In Brooklyn’s Borough Park, an area heavily populated by Hasidic men wearing black hats and long beards and women dressed in long skirts and long-sleeved shirts, stylist Gail Rosenzweig said half of her Orthodox Jewish clients want Palin’s style.
“It’s a fashion statement,” said Rosenzweig as she worked on a Palin wig. Even though Palin is a Christian from Alaska, where Jews make up less than 1 percent of the state’s 670,000 population, Rosenzweig said her clients “like her classic look. It can be worn up or down.”
I am still somewhat amazed that ANY Jewish people support Palin considering her history of "palling around" with anti-Semites and her belief that Israel is vitally important in helping to fulfill a prophecy that will see thousands of Jewish people killed in the Battle of Armageddon and the rest convert to Christianity.
However at least reading this story will tell Palin where she can find hair that looks more like the hair she had during the campaign. Now maybe she can stop just throwing whatever road kill she finds by the side of the road onto her noggin.
For their sake, I hope the 'man-I'm-stoned-and-Hannity-is making-no-sense-whatever' face is also popular with Orthodox Jewish women.
ReplyDeleteThank heavens Palin does not have the same hair she did during the campaign. The fluctuations in her wardrobe and grooming are a fortunate clue to her unsettled mental state.
ReplyDeleteoh yeah! Sarah Palin's hair is just what you need when you have to wear FAKE hair!
ReplyDeleteAm surprised too that they buy her "I'm for Israel line". She's for anything that pays more.
ReplyDeleteAnd the prophecy regarding Israel speaks of restoration between God and Israel. Those in Christ are not to take sides. They are to love both Jew and Gentile (Palestinians) the same. Christians believe that Jesus died for all men. It's not their business to intervene in the affairs of the covenant between Jehovah and Israel.
In fact, it says in the last days that there will be a huge falling away of believers who will be deceived by anti-christ; and another verse that even the elect (believers) will be deceived by false christs and great miracles.
Just giving a christian perspective here. Interesting to note too that many know this. It's a period of time where some western churches have the wool pulled over some eyes, but not all.
As a liberal Jew, I've been mystified (and horrified) my whole life by conservative, Jewish Republicans. Just yesterday, reading the Jewish Exponent newspaper in Philadelphia, I noticed an ad sponsored by a group called "Jewish Americans for Sarah Palin", calling for Joe Sestak's defeat as the Democratic senatorial candidate, claiming he's no friend of Israel. I presume by latching onto an evangelical Christian, this group of (presumably) Orthodox Jews feels some camaraderie. They are, in fact being led down the primrose path by Palin, who I think may be anxiously awaiting the Rapture! Hopefully, more and more secular Jews (who also love Israel) will speak out AGAINST both Israel's hard-line policy toward Palestinians, as well as the Christian-Americans whose love of Jews is predicated on their own desire to convert us.
ReplyDeleteWell maybe we are closer to the last days than I thought because a lot of the remarks from 5:40am sound like Sarah is the anti-christ.

ReplyDeleteRead the above. Palin religious beliefs lean more towards the New Apostolic Reformation.
Christians will rule the world.
That is what is so frustrating and scary about palin. She will not allow herself to be questioned and people only see what she wants them to see.
We have friends who live in Israel. They are Americans who have chosen to live there; their grandchildren (girls and boys) are in the Israeli army. One of their kids was on a bus that was targeted by a Palestinian bomb. She's OK, and she always describes it as surviving a terrorist attack. They are also avid Fox News viewers.
ReplyDeleteThey do not watch International CNN; it is too expensive. There is no MSNBC. Talking to them is like trying to have a conversation with Rush Limbaugh or Bill O. They are brainwashed; they believe everything they hear on Fox. Obama is a sleeper agent from Kenya. They admit that Sarah Palin isn't very bright, but she does support Israel, and that's all that they care about. Bomb Iran and Iraq? They've been attacked by people from those countries, so they are hard-line hawks who are not for any form of peaceful settlement of issues.
They are not alone in this kind of thinking. Many Jewish people in the United States have that same kind of thinking about Israel. They sing along with John McCain, "Bomb bomb bomb Iran." If some Orthodox women who believe in covering their own hair, want to slap on a Sarah Palin wig, it goes along with the rest of their thinking.
In their world, outside of the home, a woman should be modestly dressed, and her crowning glory, her hair, should be covered. They are not supposed to look attractive, because they should not be temptations to men while they are in public. So, wearing something that covers them from head to toe, along with an ugly wig, is really a statement about how awful Sarah's hair looks. Ironic.

ReplyDelete(horrifying)
I come to Gryphs blog to get my daily dose of Palin comedy. I just found some fresh material from a cartoonist named Chan Lowe. Very funny stuff. http://blogs.trb.com/news/opinion/chanlowe/blog/sarah_palin/
ReplyDeleteG-Man,
ReplyDeleteAre you sure that you want to advertise a new possible marketing franchise for SP? But since the cat is out of the bag, I suggest that we call these wigs- "The Sarah Palin Dreykup."
(The second language spoken by these Orthodox folks in Bklyn is mostly Yiddish. Dreykup is Yiddish for someone who makes you crazy or who literally 'spins your head.')
(Conscious at last!)
Is there a band yet called Sarah Palin's Hair?
ReplyDeleteI love these kinds of posts. There is nothing of substance under Sarah's hair, so the ever-changing ugly hairdo is all she really has.
Hey Gryphen,
ReplyDeleteI sent this to my daughter who lives in Brooklyn, where I grew up, also, too. Rolling around in laughter.
Thanks.
Fred Eaglesmith is one of my favorite songwriters. He can perfectly describe a situation in one or two lines. He wrote a song called big hair. Here are the lyrics. You can search for YouTubes of it, too.

Anon@8.47a - did you know that cartoonist Chan Lowe is Carol Channing's son? Well, he is.
ReplyDeleteI'm Jewish and the idea of Jewish Republicans is as wrong to me as Gay Republicans or Black Republicans. I don't know why they exist. Every Jew should know that the Christian Right is only supporting Israel because of the End Times crap. In this week's New Yorker, there's an article about Mike Huckaby. The author, who's Jewish, was with him on a trip to Israel with his church group, recounts an conversation she had with another fellow on the trip, who apologeticly told her that "sorry, she's a lovely person, but Jews aren't going to heaven". Nice, huh?
Certain groups of Christians, who believe in the rapture, are very pro-Israel because they need everything in its biblical place in order to achieve the second coming. Even if Jews don't believe in the rapture, and there is no seat on the express for them to get into the Christian's heaven, they happy for any support.
ReplyDeleteCopy Sarah's hair? Ew-ew-ew!
ReplyDeleteShe is quite a hit with the ultra-Orthodox 'tell what I'm supposed to think' brand of Jew. Far right thinking and attitudes are the same all over. Doesn't matter what religion, race or ethnicity you are.
ReplyDeleteOy vey iz mir.......
ReplyDelete(I think it's Yiddish for "That Sarah Palin is MORE than sixteen kinds of awful!")
Correct me if I'm wrong...........
