From the National Review:
Allow me to chime in with my usual observation on this subject: This is a job for Sarah Palin. Palin would be a much better RNC chairman than presidential candidate or freelance kingmaker. She'd raise tons of money and help recruit good candidates, i.e., she'd excel at doing the things Steele should have been doing instead of appointing himself Republican pundit-at-large.
A Chairman Palin would help set the right tone for the Republican party without having to get herself entangled in the minutiae of policy-development, which has not been her forte. Sure, she'd be polarizing, but so is Barack Obama, and these are polarized times. And it's one thing to have a polarizing party chairman, another to have a polarizing candidate.
This is another one of those stories that I tried to ignore but which just keeps showing up in my inbox, over, and over, and over again.
Okay first things first, she won't take it. Even though I agree that Michael Steele does not do a very good job, he IS actually doing the job. Sarah Palin is all photo-ops and crappy speeches, she doesn't do ACTUAL work. Besides there is no way she would stand in front of the press and agree to be interviewed as Steele has readily done on numerous occasions. (Even though, to be honest, there WERE times he would have been better off pulling a Palin and keeping his mouth shut.)
Second she will just up and quit. (Probably right after her very first press conference when she realizes that they let other networks in besides Fox News.)
Third, the woman is making tons of money prostituting herself the the low hanging fruit of this country, WHY would she take a job that paid her a tiny fraction of that and which actually required her to DO SOMETHING?
Anyhow that is my opinion. What do you think?
Update: Just to confuse the Teabaggers even further Ron Paul has now come out in support of Michael Steele's recent remarks:
Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele, whose remarks suggesting the U.S. will lose the war in Afghanistan have prompted some Republicans to demand his resignation, won praise from Representative Ron Paul.
“Michael Steele should not resign,” Paul, a Texas Republican and former Libertarian Party presidential candidate, said today in a statement. “Michael Steele has it right and Republicans should stick by him.”
Oooh Ron Paul vs Sarah Palin Now that would cause teabagger heads all over the country to explode.
WAY too much work for Sarah to be head of the RNC - FAR too much work.
ReplyDeleteI'm holding out hope that she runs for the White House in 2012, because her fellow Republicans that also have an eye for the White House must have gigabytes of information and ammunition to use against her by now.
I can't wait for her fellow 'R's" to release all that information and use it to bury her once and for all.
Now THAT will be some good popcorn eating times !!
I think your third point should be your first... (Besides, she would be barred from taking outside moneys - and she will NEVER give up getting her pockets lined!)
ReplyDeleteO/T, but not really:

She would just be another loose cannon for the Repubs to try to contain, much like Steele, only in a different flavor. It is a toss-up who helps the Democrats more, Steele as he is doing now, or if the Repubs fired him and gave her the job.

I think you are right, Gryphen. More to the point, can the RNC afford to lose the money that they would surely lose with her as chair? If a primary role of the RNC is fundraising, wouldn't you think they would choose someone not known for sticking his/her hand in the till at every opportunity?
ReplyDeleteGo for it, RNC. You'll lose whatever percentage of revenue ends up in the grifter's pockets, and she won't bring her crazed base into the GOP fold, since they'll be upset that her job, willingly taken, is raising money for mainstream Republican candidates, not just teabaggers.
You know, I'd love to participate in a campaign to support Palin for RNC Chair. Who might we email? Is there a petition out there (serious or otherwise?)
ReplyDeleteI agree...too much work and not enough money.
ReplyDeleteAlso, mean girl Sarah would be sooooo jealous of any RNC presidential candidate that wasnt her (think how she is fixated on losing to Obama).
This will never happen
KKKarl Rove took the power (the checkbook) from Steele months ago. RNC, under Steele, is no longer raising money - Rove's PAC (forgot the name, likely has the word "freedom" in it) is raking in the BIG donors already.
ReplyDeleteRove is likely to be RNC chairman (if Steele resigns) IMO.
Sarah is being groomed by the people behind the curtain to be the next president of the US. She will be the first candidate to run by face book. Please read her foreign policy manifesto:

The last sentence caught my eye."She's got both political and Tea Party/small government bona fides, but she also has a lot of credibility in advocating for military strength."
Well, they are right. She showed how little she cared for government by quitting her job last year. She is small, meaning petty and reactive to any criticism. As for the credibility in advocating for military strength, we all are experts. Nobody would argue for a weak military.
And, look at her expertise. Every chance that she gets, she remembers the troops.
All laughter aside, there are some very dangerous people who think that Sarah would make the Perfect Puppet President Palin, and they will be the ones pulling the strings. They are starting right now. They are campaigning for Sarah; she doesn't do any of her own work.
Interesting thing about this, if pursued, it will show the riff between the Republicans for and against her way before primary season. Perfect really.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you also, there is no way in hell she would walk away from the money she is making. Although she does love titles.
ReplyDeleteI think it would be an excellent spot for Sarah. Prove to everybody that you are not a quitter dimwit that everybody painted you out to be, you quitter dimwit!
ReplyDeleteShe can't. She would have to do interviews outside Fox and we all know how well that goes...
ReplyDeleteI agree Palin won't want it once she realizes the position prohibits moonlighting. Steele got in trouble for that.
ReplyDeleteAs for the work - when has that stopped her as long as she has willing lackeys to do the grunt work.
Do you think she would put a stop to the strip bars, heavy-drinking fund raising gigs or do you think she let them go on just say she wasn't aware of them?
I think she could use the position to raise money for the RNC but she'd want a cut or rule changes so she could continue her own personal funds-generating scams. If they do put her in this position, I'd advise them to get a very honest, very active auditor on permanent retainer because putting someone such as her near a lot of money is asking for trouble.
Of course, there is her record to consider: she's left Wasilla and then Alaska in the red. Would she do the same for the RNC? She is not known for managing anything well. They'd have to hire talented people to do the real work, just hiring her to be the front woman.
If the Republican Party wants to identified as the party of narrow-minded, hate-mongering, fine. It's well on its way now. Adding Palin as either its top candidate or the RNC leader would do much to cement its brand as the new KKK.
If she became Chair she would be required to speak in public for all the world to hear. Sunlight on her ignorance would surely be the demise of the phony "capable 2012 contender" persona she's currently selling.
ReplyDeletehahahahahahahaha!
ReplyDeletePerfect job for her. She can fly in private jets and bring her bendable straws.
ReplyDeleteAnd, with her ethically reformy thing going up in dust with her latest violation of state law that she and Parnell kept under wraps for a year, she'd be a good fit. Vitter and Ensign will gladly support her.
Not a chance. But if she did, she'd make Michael Steele look like a genius.
ReplyDeleteBTW, over at HuffPost, someone referred to Palin as "The President of Farmville." Win!
The theory about Sarah being a good cheerleader and moneymaker for the party has merit, the problem is, as always, her mouth (she'd say something publicly embarrassing within a month of taking the job), and lack of organizational skills.
ReplyDeleteDoesn't a party chair not only have to raise money, but oversee the dispersement of it as well? We all now what a great money manager she is. As Chair she'd fly herself and her family members all over in style and waste at least 50% of the money she raises.
How's that Fiscal Conservativey Thingy working out for you, Republicans?
Hey Sarah who are the founders?
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VA_yVbrMEPo
Seriously, Sarah is only interested in raising money for herself. She would never be interested in the job. It doesn't pay well, and she would actually have to sit for interviews on other stations than Fox. Also, too, bye bye Fox Gig.
ReplyDeleteThe Republicans are stuck with Foot-in-Mouth-Steele. He's African American; that's why he was chosen. MSNBC commentators already said that it is too close to the November elections for them to have a change of leadership. The good news, he is a bumbling figurehead. Keep him where he is; he is the gift that keeps on giving.
But that would make her a community organizer.
ReplyDeleteOf course being a parent, a member of a family with more than one person in it, a mayor, a governor- is also being a community organizer.
But she's too dumb to realize it and too snotty not to use it as a term to insult others.
Do you guys really think the R's would put her in there? I would think McCain would advise against it knowing full well that she follows her own rules. Remember what his group said about her. I just cannot imagine her being put in that position or being nominated by the R's to run for President of the United States. Don't forget that she is totally inempt and comes with all sorts of baggage!
ReplyDeleteThe very fact that any person would consider placing a lying, unpredictable, mentally unstable, reckless and heedless woman in a position of influence...I can't stand it. I'm going to get stoned.
ReplyDeleteAlso too who would explain the job to her?
ReplyDeleteI don't think the people in charge will let her near that job. she's too f-ing lazy, and I don't think there's a budget item in there for hiring someone else to do all the work. that said, it would be pretty amusing. the repigs are having a hard enough time right now, sarah heading up the org would be the kiss of death.
ReplyDelete"I think the laws of the land should be based on the god of the bible and the 10 commandments." yeah let's see the influx of new members to the party when that's the official position of the party head.
sure speaks volumes about national review tho, doesn't it? they think this lazy quitter is qualified? good gawd.
I think they should give her the job. Thousands of dollars will be raised for the democrats that is. HeHe
ReplyDeleteRam would never be allowed to hold power in the RNC,Sarah would never go without her sycophants .
ReplyDeleteRight now the only person who we should worry about is Trig. I am concerned that Trig may conveniantly/accidentally die from heart problems or something else since people are really getting serious about Babygate. She would have him cremated-no evidence and plus, become a a nationwide martyr.
ReplyDeleteI hate to call this one but am sure that this could happen.
Keep in mind a Mother wouldnt stay away from her own baby like this, if she truly loved him, like a real Mom. She has no motherly instinct toward this child except as a prop. Look at his name. There was no love there. Frankly, it is difficult for me to leave my dogs, cats, and horses. I do not know how she could leave her baby, especially one that really needs a Mom.
I mean doesnt everyone, male or female, feel some need to protect something that is so fragile and vulnerable like a child or animal? Not Sarah.
If anyone in power seriously considers this, they deserve her! Just because a three person, appointed by the Governor Alaska Ethics Board keeps finding her innocent does not make it so (what does she have on them?) I can hardly wait for her to declare, and then watch the Republicans take her down. The Democrats won't have to do a thing...Mitt and his money probably already have a plan in place, as well as Huckabee.
ReplyDeleteAs far as Trig, I doubt he is her baby, but she is very blase about him even as a grandchild. Did they adopt this one so she'd have a nice prop fort he campaign?
anon @ 4:50 pm: I hear you. I have a theory that trig's "heart defect" is going to come in handy for sarah one day. a newborn with a heart defect does not leave the hospital withing 48 hours of birth.
ReplyDeleteI love all your points, but seriously, she is too stupid to do it and the RNC knows it. I think she could still grift (they all do) but it would require real work and I don't think she is all that interested in "work". She just wants to be popular, make money and keep those books a comin! She will never run for anything in the Republican party, she just wants to be their tea baggin cheerleader. That, she can certainly do and is qualified for! :)
ReplyDeletePalin has her sights set on a presidential run. After this November's election watch her campaign full-speed. Actually, she has been practicing her stump speeches at these "speaking engagements" where she has also been raking in the dinero. She's coming to my state for two of these "speaking engagements - that's twice she will inject herself into my state's affairs!!!
ReplyDeleteSorry, Alaska but, sometimes I hate you for foisting Palin on us down here in the Lower 48.
Anonymous @ 4:50 - yeah, what will happen to that child? Does anyone in Alaska care?
I think with her great organizational skills and fantastic talent for public speaking--not to mention her amazing affinities for fund-raising--she could take care of the RNC alright!
ReplyDeleteOh, I think the RNC should roll out the red carpet for their pin up girl,wanna-be, 2nd runner up Miss Alaska. Using the FOX critters as an example, the RNC thinks looks should trump substance.. just give those lemmings some eye-candy ... As for the potential cut in the grifter's personal cash flow, I'm sure the RNC still have several of those Credit Cards hanging around just for moments like this. psttt.. check with the Florida and California RNC for they always seem to come thru in the past and should be able to throw some her way. Oh and I'm sure with all their creative financing expertise from their members and staff, as well as their talent for acquiring 'hidden' treasures, Miss ex-wanna be Alaska, would still be financially comfortable. Who knows, there might be a few more LLC's in her future.
