Why do people still consider Sarah Palin such a great fundraiser?

From Personal Liberty Digest:

During the second quarter of 2010, Romney raised $1.8 million, well ahead of other contenders for the ticket, for a total of $3.4 million since the beginning of the year, according to media reports.

By contrast, his closest rival Tim Pawlenty, the governor of Minnesota, managed just over $720,000 in the most recent quarter, and $1.3 million in 2010 thus far, Minneapolis City Pages reported.

However, the real question on many commentators’ minds seems to be the fundraising performance of Sarah Palin, whose favorability ratings among likely GOP voters are the highest for all contenders at 76 percent, according to a new Gallup poll.

Even the controversial Minnesota Representative Michele Bachmann raised more—$1.7 million to Palin’s $865,000 in the second quarter—prompting National Post contributor Tim Mak to ask “why isn’t Palin, a national figure with more media coverage than Bachmann, at least keeping pace?”

It is becoming increasingly apparent that most of the attention that is directed toward Sarah Palin is the same kind of attention that a high wire act or demolition derby might attract.  People are simply watching for the next shocking accident or dramatic close call.

People are not supporting Sarah Palin the person, as much as Sarah Palin the side show freak.

Sure she gets attention, but so did Jo Jo the dog face boy.  I don't believe that anybody seriously wanted him to lead their country either.

The proof is in the pocketbook. Sarah may get attention, and lots of blogs and cable shows talking about her, but how many people are really going to support her run for the presidency? Well, how many SANE people are going to support her run for the presidency?

  1. Apparently the fund raising Sarah is most interested in is the kind that goes directly into her pocketbook.

How many sane people will be suckered into voting for Palin? We'll know in 2012. I'm shocked by how many actually back her fervently, but then again, if I look at the number of "fans" she has on her facebook page and ask myself, "could there be 1.8 million gullible people in this country?", although I'm sure she has many followers who are not on Facebook, let's say, another million, 3 million out of 300 million, a very rough estimation... 1% of the population. Are 1 in 100 people gullible? The answer is most certainly yes. Far more than 1% even.

She doesn't have a shot. You need 50+1 to win. Not 1+1, or even 20+1.

  4. Sideshow freak is the correct term. Even the tabloids are on to her shtick:

    from above's link:
Just one week after Bristol Palin and Levi Johnston got paid a whopping $100,000 to announce their upcoming wedding on the cover of Us Weekly, the Palin camp has been shopping around an interview plus photographs of Sarah and her future son-in-law together. The problem? No one wants them!

"Last week sales figures for Us Weekly were a huge disappointment," a magazine insider tells me. "After spending that sort of money, Us was hoping to sell over a million copies; instead they only sold around 750,000. Don't expect to see any of the Palin's on a cover of any other [celebrity] weeklies any time soon."

Sources tell me the asking price for the staged kiss and make-up interview was in the $150,000 range. However, once it became clear that wasn't going to happen, the price was reduced to $10,000 and they still had no takers.

"Additionally, what didn't help the Palin's was the fact that Angelina and Brad stepped out on the red carpet together Monday evening for her 'Salt' premiere in Los Angeles," said an industry source. "Just before the weekly magazines went to print the world's most gorgeous couple handed them a perfect cover image. No one handles their image better than those two. Not even Sarah Palin."

Also, there was a comment that the wedding was postponed? Any truth to that that you've found?

  6. These articles are talking about the money Pawlenty and Romney have raised for their campaigns. Palin doesn't bother with that foofaraw. She just has people donate directly to her bank account under the guise of paying for speeches in inappropriate venues, huge advances for writing and the buying up of huge numbers of her book, and paying her for television appearances in which she gives political analyses of dubious value.

I do not know if I can mention the journalist, but she is a conservative female, and I recall her saying Sp is just a side show, and GOP is working with others. John Thune?

Soothing words to this old heart in this piece. Thanks.

I hope she keeps fading in influence. Keep up the good work everyone in pointing out her failings and helping to uncover them before she does more damage to the country. The hate and division she creates around her is not what the country needs right now.

Thank goodness OBAMA is so calm in all of the turmoil and doesn't try to be a "drama king". Unlike the Queen of drama, President Obama keeps slowly rolling the agenda along, without a circus around him, and I was surprised how much he has accomplished in spite of the party of NO trying to stop him at every step.

She is shrewd. According to Bristol, Sarah believes actions speak louder than words. "She's going to wait to see if [Levi] changes," Bristol explained. "But she's just glad he is getting on the right path. She knows how much Tripp means to me, and she wants Tripp to have a father figure." Not a father, not his father, just a father figure.

  11. In answer to your last question, Gryph - NO sane person will vote for Palin.
I have many Republican acquaintances, and not one of them would vote for her! Some of them (who don't know what we know) DO like her - but NONE feel she is qualified for POTUS - or even VP.
I also know some members of the Republican Woman's Group of Simi - they have NOT forgotten that she stood them up, embarrassed them, AFTER they sent invites to her speech (for which she canceled at the last minute).
They are livid, but too polite to speak out in public.

Am sure there are a couple 'bots across the country with a few extra bucks to support Sow(a). Between her need for media attention & personal improvement expenses, there is never enough.

If you've already maxed out donation to SPac, there's Legal Defense Fund, or Friends of GrizzlySows (not to be confused with actually helping bears, because that would be socialism)

Perhaps add a few new funds:
Go Away Joe, Build Me a Bigger Border Fence,
    or
Elect me again, so I can quit,
    or
    Fix my Plastic Face

Am sure if there was a way the former half gov. would be charging her FaceBook fans. Since she spends a majority of donations on "self improvement" (learning about policies, government, speechifying, etc.) You would think she'd quit making these boner mistakes. Perhaps there is a really good teacher in Wasilla that would like to teach her geography & civics & english & basic economics &.....)

This is what I've been saying: she gets attention but the wrong kind of attention. Every time there's another update on Bristol and Levi you might as well have "White Trash not White House" plastered across the screen. People may be slow, they may be gullible, but the Paylin's have overexposed themselves to the point that even the slow and the gullible are starting to get it.

That on-again-off-again wedding of Bristol and Levi seems to have more to do with their marketability than anything else. The fact that they cannot sell their reality show (Mom and Dad got married and all I got was another brother)speaks volumes about the fading Palin popularity. I can only hope that it continues.

As for Jo Jo the Dogfaced Boy, I had no idea that he was someone in the Ringling Bros.Barnum and Bailey Circus. When I was a kid, there was a well known amusement park in town, which isn't around any more. But in its day, it did feature the standard side show freak show: sword swallower, snake charmer, midgets (OK, small people), somebody covered with tattoos (well, that's not freaky anymore), and a guy who could needles and other sharp objects through his rubber face. Their main attraction was Jo Jo the Dogfaced Boy. Since it appears to be hereditary, I can only assume that the original Jo Jo's kids found work around the country in various side shows. Even remembering what was considered a freak show doesn't compare to watching the Palin Soap Opera.

  19. sjk is on to something. The media has worked overtime to keep her around and relevant.

I agree with GinaM. I love the photo. I believe the pic is from the Susan B. Anthony List breakfast where she delivered her favorite version of the Trig pregnancy story to standing applause and was drunk from the adoration. (It really scares me that I can identify the pic.) And why don't her pupils ever look normal?

OT - Sarah's attempt to sell the 'make nice w/Levi' story to the tabloids could be her downfall if it's true and if the media covers it.

This is off topic, but the following is a link to one of the best early "Palin" fake pregnancy sites, and it is worthwhile to save it as a favorite for future reference.

Looks like with that good 2nd quarter report, the Palins can go on that vacation to Hawaii.

This time they are taking Willow with them, so they won't have to cut the vacation short to go home and bail her out of trouble for breaking and entering.

No mention of the "newly" engaged going with them and I suppose Trig is too big now to be a prop.

One would think that there are sane people out there. But, Sarah's followers are smitten by her american-made celebrity, cute, perky, Sally Field/Debbie Reynolds/Annette Funicello persona. I think the James Dobson gang created it.

Didn't her PAC spend money on consultants? Possibly image consultants. And they know that people are weary of the usual politics; hence throw in a 50's style family values girl with a white toothy smile and a gleam in her eye.

Hopefully this excitement will wear off soon, and they'll hear about a younger version of Sarah waiting in the wings, and all head over there.

Why do people still consider Sarah Palin such a great....fill in the blank. mother, citizen, example of American achievement. As for her 1.8m facebook fans - you have to sign up as a fan because there isn't a category for "I think this woman is an idiot and I want to know what she's up to" Apparently only 30k of her fans watched the Grizzly bear movie.

I'm one of the millions clicking on Palin news because I want to see the firey crash. I'm amazed that there is no break in the Trig question. No absolute proof proving or disproving the birth other than her word and an odd letter by an odd religious nut doctor and the photos of her with abs of steel at 7 months.

I'm happy to hear that the US sales for the week are dissmal. I was wondering about that. Everywhere I've gone I've seen US stuffed full in the rack which I took to mean that it wasn't selling. I recall hearing that the OK cover showing the two woman who "chose life" also had very poor sales.

People magazine ended up with egg on their face when they got the fake story that they published while US got the scoop. The Palin broads have now burned three of the big weekly magazines.

That OK cover is a monument in fraud. For Bristol, there is no choosing life or considering an abortion since she planned the pregnancy - duh. Did Sarah choose life or did she choose a throw pillow?

I voted Independent or Republican my whole life until a got a good look at S'error Palin. May McCain die in shame for consenting to unleash her hateful ignorance on this country.

I have Republican friends that "like" her, but no one I know thinks she is qualified to lead anything more complicated than a bake sale.

I tune in nearly every day to see how high her "house of cards" will reach before collapsing.

Bristol and Levi are not helping her image. Far from casting a glow of young romance on the Palin family, their feuding and fussing seems more like the Hatfields and McCoys.

$arah Palin is only news because the Media has crowned her thus. Sure, we tune into the freak show, but it's the side stories that really have me shaking my head: $arah the Contender, $arah the HUGE money-raiser, $arah the King-maker, blah, blah, blah... These stories are a blatant mechanism to keep $arah "alive." If they printed the truth about her, we'd all be bored silly--even WITH her crazy antics.

"Well, how many SANE people are going to support her run for the presidency?" Well, Mister, let me tell you: this is AMERICA! And in AMERICA everyone is entitled to representation. That means the insane are guaranteed by the Constitution the right to have one of their own - or a very sympathetic semi-sane person - represent them in government. It's what makes us superior to countries such as Chad or Guinea-Bissau. I'm a proud supporter of semi-former governor Sistah Sarah and her lovable, loopy family. And I, for one, (cue patriotic music) look forward to the Palin/Jo Jo the Dogfaced Boy administration taking the oath of office in Washington DC on a cold January day in the future!!! (and the more futurer, the betterer.....)
