Here is a portion of Sarah Palin's extremely defensive speech at this gathering of wingnuts.
(Here is a short transcript from the above video that I found especially bizarre.)
It is so humbling to get to be here today......patriots. You who are motivated, and engaged, and concerned. Knowing...to...never...retreat.
I must assume....(pause for smattering of applause), I must assume that you to knowing that, no we must not fundamentally transform America as some would want. We must restore America and restore her honor!
Now I have been asked to speak today, not as a politician (Yeah right!), no something more, something MUCH more, I have been asked to speak as the mother of a SOLDIER! And I am proud of that distinction!
You know say what you want to say about me, but I raised a combat vet and you can't take that away from me!
Proud of that distinction but it is not one that I had imagined because...no woman gives birth thinking that she will hand over her child to her country, but that is what mothers have done from ancient days. (I guess military service beat prison for vandalism in ancient tiimes as well. Who knew?)
Even though Glenn Beck swore that this rally would NOT be political it will come as no surprise at all that he was completely full of shit.
Beck had appealed to those attending not to bring signs with them. But Mike Cash, a 56-year-old Atlanta businessman, found a way around that. Over his polo shirt, he wore a T-shirt that read "Treat Obama like a used tea bag, toss him out now!"
"I wouldn't have missed it (the rally) for anything," said Cash, who drove up with his family. "We are here kind of protesting about our government, too. I'm a businessman and I'm worried about taxes going up."
Many in the crowd watched the proceedings on large television screens. On the edges of the Mall, vendors sold "Don't Tread on Me" flags, popular with tea party activists. Other activists distributed fliers urging voters "dump Obama." The pamphlet included a picture of the president with a Hitler-style mustache.
The Washington Post also noticed the hypocrisy, as well as the poorly veiled message sent by having Sarah Palin give her speech in front of the disenchanted Teabaggers:
Beck's gathering was a non-political rally with strong political overtones, as the choice of Sarah Palin as the featured speaker testified. If Boehner and Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.) embody the party's establishment leadership, Palin is now the de facto leader of the non-establishment wing, and she is wreaking havoc within her party.
Palin's speech Saturday was heavy on patriotism and tributes to military heroes, but it contained one clear dig at the president when she said that what the country needs is restoring, not transforming. But her presence in the capital was more than a challenge to the Democrats; it also was a reminder to her party's congressional leadership that she and her grass-roots followers will be watching them closely and holding them to account.
One of the things that struck me about this gathering was how many African Americans appeared on stage, singing gospel songs and providing religious messages, and how very, very few of them were present in the audience that came to listen. It felt very much like Glenn Beck had quickly made sure to get as many black faces for the cameras as he could, knowing full well that the majority of the people attending would be middle aged white Americans who were there, not to see the black faces on stage, but rather in opposition to the black face that peered out at them from behind the Presidential podium.
On the one hand they made so many references to Martin Luther King Jr, that you would have thought it was a gathering of the NAACP, but then on the other would quickly bemoan the horrible state of the country now that Martin Luther King Jr's greatest hope had been achieved. It was almost as if the entire gathering were schizophrenic by its very nature.
Glenn Beck promised some amazing revelation were to occur during this rally, but the only revelation I observed was how easily duped a certain segment of this country's population are by patriotic music, ostentatious imagery, and blatant hypocrisy. Of course if they were not so easily manipulated they would not be watchers of Fox News now would they?
Gryphen, speaking of Sarah's soldier -- do you have any idea where he is? Did he serve his full enlistment and then get out, or is he stationed near his Mommy, or ???
ReplyDeleteYes I know where he is and that he has numerous problems which are causing him to slowly self destruct.
ReplyDeleteI don't think that having money thrown at him will keep him from doing something to really embarrass the family for much longer.
It really bothers me that the Media is falling in line with this stupid meme that PALIN is wreaking havoc in the Party. It's the same bullshit that they spun forever about Palin standing up to her own Party. (Yeah, what did she have to lose? Everyone hated Murkowski. She positioned herself as the "outsider/insider." That wasn't bravery, that was the obvious strategy.) Why does the Media have a hard-on for the Sarah The King Maker storyline.
ReplyDeleteThe Tea Party began before Palin and it had nothing to do with Palin. Those are the people that are wreaking havoc in the Party, as the majority are Right Wingers. They're the ones tossing out GOP incumbents (ex: Utah). Sarah, on cue, is using her celebrity to take credit for the movement. She has her own motives, and I'd lay odds they're more about her than they are about honor, patriotism, or restoring anything but her pocketbook.
She's sick and they're stupid. What else is new?
He didn't want signs because even crazy Glenn Beck knew the crazy had to be toned down.
ReplyDeleteI find it very telling that Sarah Palin spoke of handing her son over to the armed services. It certainly makes it sound like she had more to do with it than Track, himself.
ReplyDelete(She is such a narcissist, by the way, it all "me, me, me!" all the time. No wonder her kids are so messed up.)
I'm curious, Gyphen. Do you know for certain what we all suspect, that Track was involved in the bus vandalism incident and was forced into the army? It would certainly derail old Sarah's story of her son's decision to join the military. Sarah knows how to pull strings when it comes to her kids and vandalism, doesn't she?
It seems they'd tire of attending rallies that offer no solutions, just complaints about our current government and orders to not retreat.
ReplyDeleteI think the folks in charge of this back to the 1800s movement are scamming their followers. I think some people allow themselves to be scammed because it feels good to them. They give to the televangelists. They give to the Tea Party. They constantly vent yet accomplish nothing. Idiots.
Since Pres. Obama was elected as a virtual unknown, I think he stands an even better chance of being reelected now that voters know him and his work.
Gryphen, I wish you would give us an update post on the compound. Who is living there now? Did the situation drastically change after the expanded compound was built? The whole thing seems like an expensive mistake, considering how things have developed recently. What is your latest opinion?
ReplyDeleteFollowing your lead today, I took my girls to Universal Studios and we toured the Sunset Strip. I'm so glad I wasn't home to watch the Bigots on Parade today. I may have broken my television.
ReplyDeleteBy the way there were thousands of people on the Sunset Strip for the Street Music Festival. It was great to see so many diverse people not focusing on the garbage on Washington today.
Thanks for the update! Judging from the comments on the Blogosphere Glen Beck's rally was a joke and the village idiot Sarah Palin was her usual stupid self.
Crazy, fat, out of shape white people riding 'round in motorized carts wearing flag t-shirts. Let's restore America to that Honor NOT!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you saw that at our Fair today too :-)
Hope you had a great time today, by the way! It was very wet and soggy but I hope you had fun.
I truly think I have PALINITIS. I am so sick of her and her rantings of NOTHING and people believe that crap. If things are so bad why does she not have any solutions? Oh wait, because she is an idiot!
ReplyDeleteIf you want to see a middle of the road, very intelligent view of this whole tent revival - visit littlegreenfootballs.com
ReplyDeleteBoth sides, very good blog.
They are disgusted with the whole farce.
Oh, and please, bust her on her lie of her combat son. Didn't he serve as a driver or something? And everyone is asking is he still in the service? How in the hell did he get a 1 year deployment when everyone gets 2. Or something like that??
ReplyDeleteLove ya Gryph! Have fun with your girl!
Gryphen, would you know whether Track actually saw combat? What is his current status with the military? (Discharged, on leave, could be called up again like thousands of other kids?) Thanks
ReplyDeleteI know that Beck & Limbaugh are doing all of this for money, they have admitted it.
ReplyDeleteI think Sarah is doing this because she really thinks it is her duty to her god. The money is just a gift from god for her good work.
She is just crazy.
5 seconds of her screechy voice was all I could take. Thank you for the transcript. That vile woman is no more than a steaming sack of dog (ok I'll edit here) poo. Every time I hear about her being a mother I want to vomit. That woman gave birth to some of her kids, period. No mothering from her. She is the most disgusting example of a mother ever. And every time she mentions honor, I hold my breathe for the lightening bolt to strike her lying self to the ground. I'm sorry, but I have to go cleanse my brain with clorox.
ReplyDeleteHey everyone, did ya'll notice this:
ReplyDeleteBesides August 28th being the anniversary of MLK's 1963 "I Have a Dream Speech"
Barack Obama gave his Democratic Presidential Nomination Acceptance Speech on August 28, 2008 in Denver, Colorado. (remember the big stage with the huge fake Roman pillars?)
I think that Palin is STILL jealous, so that is one reason she decided to speak at Beck's August 28, 2010 rally!
Photo of Obama's crowd of 84,000 people:

I have heard it said that the Tundra Turd is very intelligent. Personally, I can't determine that as her mental illness keeps getting in the way. It casts a huge shadow around her and tripping her up.
ReplyDeleteI hear the word in Wasilla is that Track has re-enlisted. Is that true?
ReplyDeleteJust one question- what's a "Navy Sill?"
ReplyDeletePalin is such a disgusting excuse for a Mother. Gryphen, you tell us her son is having problems and rather than be there for their son, $arah and Toad are traveling around the country, spreading hate and divisiveness via speech after speech, pretending to be Ozzie & Harriet with their fake new reality show with the ever perfect family. Why aren't they taking care of their son, the same one they use as a prop every time they can? I'd hate to think that he is suffering from PTSD and isn't getting the help he needs or if it is drugs, she could get him into the best rehab centers around. However, if found out, that wouldn't correlate with her all-American family now. Would it, $arah? Why isn't she helping her son??
ReplyDeleteHow did the people in Alaska feel when $arah used MLK's name today? Did it remind them of her refusal to acknowledge Juneteenth? Her hypocrisy is never-ending!
Sarah wore white as the sacrificial virgin. Has she ever wore white before? Or was is merely an outfit she whipped up on her sewing (hatred) machine using an old klan robe?
ReplyDeleteWhy am I thinking "revival tent" complete with traveling
ReplyDeleteself-ordained hucksters who shake down the ignorant to mostly line their own pockets?
Intentionally avoided it all and watched the tv broadcast of our local Hawaii Little league baseball team winning the national championship at Williamsport.
Early New Year's resolution:
ReplyDeleteI'm NOT going to waste my time reading anything about Ms Palin anymore: she is a minor annoyance compared to this Beck fellow.
Watching this bloated egomaniac eventually disintegrate before our eyes into a weeping mess - and it will happen (doesn't he remind you of a combination Elmer Gantry/Joe McCarthy/Lonesome Rhodes i.e. someone who can supposedly "see" the failings of others but is laughably ignorant of their own fatal flaw?) - is going to be sweet.
It's interesting that on the FB Restoring Honor site, the posters make no mention whatsoever of Palin. These seem to be the same ignorant people that were into Jerry Falwell et al and "Family Values". Beck is their new savior. If I hear "the founding fathers made this a Christian nation" one more time, I will throw up.
ReplyDeleteIs it true her son, Track, the 'combat vet' was given a choice, jail or service, and he chose the service?
ReplyDeleteIt would make her claim of raising a combat vet very different if it was his only choice!
Quite the anti climax in my opinion.
ReplyDeletePalin sounded ignorant as usual.
Whatever happened to all the losers from that 9/12 movement?
Seems the Beckerhead has his rubes supporting new causes annually.
Track. I'm not sure how deep his is in all this bullshit, but I am starting to feel bad for the guy.
ReplyDeleteHe's trying SO hard to stay out of the spotlight, so I have to give him credit for that. But at the same time, I think he knows a LOT more than he's saying and could also be someone to blow the lid off this entire farce of a family.
Poor kid. He's got some serious issues and he's self destructing all before he's 21 years of age.
I blame YOU, Sarah.
I read in another article in reference to Track that he completed one year of service, which made it sound like he was no longer serving in the armed forces. That seems like an incredibly short time, so not sure what the real story is there.
ReplyDeleteThe "Dumbing Down of America" has begun. What will we do next,...ban all books and education? The educated DO pose a threat to these fools.
ReplyDeleteOr, if you want Biblical reference,... these are the three Anti-Christ's....
Glenn Beck
Sarah Palin
Rush Limbaugh
It was predicted. Let's NOT let it come to pass.
Ugg. The way Sarah states that "no woman gives birth thinking that she will hand over her child to her country" sounds like she thinks she's Abraham, offering up Isaac on the altar as a sacrifice.
ReplyDeleteAnd, the "you know say what you want to say about ME, but I raised a combat vet and you can't take that away from ME!" --- well, that just takes the cake.
She just can't stop injecting herself into everything, even when she's trying to honor her son. It's all about poor Sarah, and how everyone says bad things about her.
It strikes me how easy it would be to create internecine warfare among the ranks of Beck's followers by simply dropping hints that he is the Anti-Christ. We could us a chalkboard diagram showing that the prophecy actually warns against 'believers' being deceived and pointing out that 'believers' were never deceived by the Kenyan usurper, so it is unlikely he is the Anti-Christ. From there we could link to stupid, but nevertheless generally accepted (by the mob) rumors about Mormon's not recognizing the supremacy of Jesus and actually worshiping a Devil version of him. We could reiterate that we are not saying Beck IS the Anti-Christ--just that according to our foolproof chalkboard logic he totally fits the prophecy--but if it turns out he is the Anti-Christ and we support him, we just gave up our personal salvation (after all, selfish striving for eternal bliss is what this particular brand of Christianity is all about--not a desire to be a better person and create a better world for all). We could suggest that it might be time for Sarah P to call in her witchdoctor friend to pray for the expulsion of any demons from Beck--not that we are saying there are any, but he has never proven that there aren't, so it should be done just in case.
ReplyDeleteThe idiotic paranoia of modern Evangelicals is their weakness and our strength. We really should be using it to our advantage. Too bad you have to be a pretty awful person to do so...
If you haven't read it yet, please read what happened when a black liberal attending this rally..here's the link http://www.dailykos.com/story/2010/8/28/182012/137
ReplyDeleteblurring of the lines of church and state was the message yesterday from the 3 ring circus known as Glenn Beck, Fox News and the Koch Brothers .... what a sad day when the far right radical fringe needs Beck to tell them to return to their God and their churches!
ReplyDeleteAnd, Palin re-writting her family history to make it look like she is the mother to end all mothers by birthing a Combat VET! Like we don't know the truth behind Track Palin's disgraceful reasons for being "forced" into military service to our Country! Sarah Palin's shameless disgrace flys in the face of every every single Mother who has lost a son or daughter fighting for our country!
It's political pundits like these and such poor political leaders like Palin that will cause "sane" americans to show up at the polls in November en masse and in reecord numbers to put these tea baggers in their right place - out of politics!
VOTE - VOTE - VOTE - HELL NO to the Republicans, Fox News and the Koch Brothers 3 ring circus known as the Tea Party in November and shut down these hateful, fearful and very greedy political hacks that want to take us back in time by stripping Americans of their civil rights and making women 2nd class citizens - AGAIN!
Someone should start a poll on who's going to melt-down first: Palin or Beck.
ReplyDeleteIt's fascinating (in a train-wreck sort of way) to watch those two.
My money would be on Palin - I'm pretty sure Beck's blubbering is all show. He's the flim-flam man playing the crowd for millions of dollars.
I tend to believe that Palin really has deluded herself into thinking she really IS something.
So. When they hit the wall and all of their followers move on to the next televangelist/grifter - I think Beck will laugh all the way to the bank.
Whereas Palin, on the other hand, will end up shrieking all alone in a rubber room.
But I could be wrong: Beck could end up sobbing into a microphone that's no longer connected because nobody cares about him anymore.
My first reaction when I heard Alvena King's speech was "How dare she parody her uncle?"I next wondered how much she and the other token minorities in stage were paid to sell their souls. Then, I read about the Koch brothers and their beliefs. They are the ones who fund the tea party under the guise of FreedomWorks. Please read the article in the NYT . Does less government, getting rid of social security, the department of education, unemployment insurance, regulation of industry and others ring any bells with you?
ReplyDeleteBe afraid. Be very afraid if the wingnuts win any office this fall.
As well, Americans for Prosperity , which provides buses for the teapartiers to come to these rallies,is reported as being funded by Dick Armey and by Murdoch who owns Fox News.Palin, Beck and others are just tools being used for a larger agenda. Follow the money.
Best review of the pall on the mall shrouded by "Dark days" Beck is the LA Times culture article. URL too long to add here.
ReplyDeleteGlenn Beck puts on his tin-foil art critic's hat -- again
Sarah STOLE Obama's SPEECH!
ReplyDeletehttp://www.politicususa.com/en/palin-beckapalooza
...If you’re wondering why you suddenly like part of her message, it’s because this was lifted from Obama’s change speech, with the word restore inserted instead of transform. And that also explains why she had a fleeting nod to hope instead of hate. Is it bad to point out that I love how she’s using theft to shift stereotypes?
Nothing says “restore” like plagiarism. Just like nothing says a moving civil rights rally like a sea of old white people. I need a Kleenex. Wait, do the Brawny boys own Kleenex? I can’t get away from these lovers of money – er, America.
And that, ladies and gentlemen, was her 2012 campaign slogan:
“RESTORE AMERICA.”
Yes. Restore it from the black man. On the anniversary of Martin Luther King’s march on DC.
OMG, here is the ENTIRE sordid episode on YouTube.

Symbol of Fear: Glenn Beck Wore a Bulletproof Vest at Restoring Honor Rally
ReplyDeletehttp://www.politicususa.com/en/beck-bulletproof-vest
Glenn Beck delivered a powerful symbol to America today during his Restoring Honor rally, but it had nothing to do with his words or the crowd. If you looked closely at Beck during his “I Killed a Dream” speech, you could see that he was wearing a bulletproof vest. Beck was afraid of his own fans. Check out the pics for yourself.
Sarah Palin Glenn Beck And The Conservative Hero Myth
ReplyDeletehttp://www.politicususa.com/en/sarah-palin-glenn-beck-and-the-conservative-hero-myth
But for American conservatism, a hero is any conservative who says “no” to Barack Obama and and who stands steadfastly by the conservative narrative, however it flies in the face of reality.
Apparently, blind obstinacy is now heroic.
We see, for example, that Sarah Palin is a hero. But she is also a hero who likes to talk about heroes, from Ronald Reagan (whom she appears to know nothing about) to the Founding Fathers (whom she can’t name) to Margaret Thatcher (whom presumably, she also knows nothing about), or most recently, Dr. Laura, for using the “N” word when talking to a black caller – 11 times! (Sarah says we should be “thankful” for her voice). Presumably, Sarah Palin does know something about Dr. Laura, and that tells us quite a bit about Sarah Palin.
If a person can be judged by the quality of their enemies, they can also be judged by the people they hold to be heroes.
Utterly DISGUSTING!

(Heil Hitler!)
And, the "you know say what you want to say about ME, but I raised a combat vet and you can't take that away from ME!" --- well, that just takes the cake.
ReplyDeleteWhat the heck was the above about? Palin's rhetoric is hostile exhibiting paranoia. Who is trying to "take that away from" me me me? Or is that projection, mental illness speaking from a person who is trying to get all she can taking away money, reputation, character from people?
Or is it her usual grandiosity making up her son was a combat vet so don't anyone dare disagree her personal fiction is fiction. When a child has a parent like this nothing they do is ever good enough.
I posted on another thread that Beck chose to bring in the "token" black people to be used as proof he is not racist, not white christian supremacy minded. Given Beck claimed he did not know it was the anniversary of MLK, his verbal garbage he's not preparing for this event, it is not political he certainly put on quite a show of getting down with MLK. Has Beck ever professed these beliefs he had an audience for yesterday? What was up with the Baptist, black Baptist 'show' in the midst of this? IMO it was confusing (done to confuse), off balance for an ulterior motive and uncharacteristic of Beck and Palin.
I am curious if any nonwhite people fell for the show put on.
Actually it was all about politics, manuevering and manipulating people for nondisclosed agendas.
I will not be surprised when it escates to uphold Obama is not a christian..he is a mulim..he seeks to destroy, dishonor our country..transform it to virtual evil. Then this dog and pony circus act exploiting the fools like A. King...they can claim they looove people of different color..assignated Obama's character. IMO..this stged the set up. Time will tell. It's commonsense..if a person admires and respects Dr. King they don't hijack her day, the location, and lay claim to his life's work and achievement. Beck was clear "taking it back" i.e. doing so they took it away from MLK.
Glenn Beck MASSIVELY inflates the number of people who attended the rally in Washington DC...
ReplyDeletehttp://voices.washingtonpost.com/44/2010/08/beck-people-dont-recognize-oba.html?wprss=44
Just one day after he drew a sea of conservative activists to see him speak on the National Mall, Fox News host Glenn Beck appeared on "Fox News Sunday" to discuss the event. Beck said his rally -- at which former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin also spoke -- drew "on the low end 300,000" attendees up to "as many as 650,000."
FUCKING LIAR! And of course FOX lets it slide...
But 100,000,000 people (and still counting--Michele Bachmann doesn't have enough fingers) of all (the Caucasian) ethnic groups, (light-skinned) races, and (fundamentalist Christian) creeds can't be wrong, can they? It truly was a miracle, with God producing honor from the very ground--like heavenly manna, allowing it to seep right up onto the National Mall...where it was quickly trampled by a raging horde of pasty fat people on disability scooters
ReplyDeleteSomeone needs to explain to these folks that you can't 'restore' what you never had.
Is Track the father of Trig?
ReplyDeleteAnonymous at 8:21,
ReplyDeleteSadly, it's not just Fox repeating Beck's lies. The MSM is apparently taking him at his word, too, with Brian Williams saying 'we are hearing estimates of 300,000 to 500,000.' Of course they are--they're hearing them from Beck. So you have a clearly biased source saying half a million (Michele Bachmann (Fruitcake-MN) is actually now saying 2,000,000) and a completely unbiased report from CBS News and a private org that takes aerial photos saying 87,000. Which one does Brian Williams chose? Unbelievable.
This is an event that never should have been held. Both Palin and Beck have been placing the lives of our soldiers serving in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Pakistan (the relief effort) in greater danger with their anti-Islam rhetoric regarding the Park 51 Project. IMHO, this immediately disqualifies them from any category related to honoring our troops, past or present.
ReplyDelete"Is Track the father of Trig?"
ReplyDeletepossible but doubtful. TriG is not immediately related to anyone in the Palin household. He might be a cousin.
Andrea Yates was a mother too. And I'd offer that she had a more sincere love for her children. She was just crazy.
ReplyDeletePalin's got the "crazy" borne of pathological narcissism.
Interesting to note: Jane Mayer, writing in the recent New Yorker, began the (print media) exposure of the Koch brothers' astroturf Teaparty funding.
ReplyDeleteJane Mayer also exposed some of the heavy-hitting Neo-con/ Fundie politicos who were In Alaska grooming Palin for the vice-presidency as early as summer 2007. (Her article, "The Insiders: How John McCain came to pick Sarah Palin," October 27, 2008, is available online.)
I hope Mayer can tie the two scandals together and wrap it all up with a big bow before the November elections.
@LondonBridges: Sarah did wear white once before, on the day of Chelsea Clinton's wedding!

I saw part of the Palin speech and had to shut it off. She's the first sober person I've heard make that screeching sound. All I could think of was a banshee. I have never heard such an offensive tone at a religious or political rally. Palin's wailing may be an omen of the death of her political career.
ReplyDeletePalin...dressed in white. Goddamn there are so many levels to work with here...
ReplyDeleteGosh Gryphen,
ReplyDeleteIf Track is in such a downward spiral, perhaps it's time for Grandmama Menard to step in and take charge. Track's birthmother is oblivious, his dad is dead, his mother's family isn't helping. Someone needs to save him from himself. He is carrying around alot of crap apparently and needs help. Grandma Linda where are you??
