So today I thought I would do a little housekeeping and combine these stories into one Sunday morning round up.
The first comes to us from the very funny political blog Hysterical Raisins. Even if the post itself were not a hoot, which it is, I would have to include it simply for their extremely inventive photoshopped poster of Sarah Plain and Michele Bachmann as the iconic sitcom duo of "Laverne & Shirley."
See my poiint?
Have you ever wondered what a conversation between Sarah Palin and the great philosopher Socrates might look like?
Yeah something like that.
Well the good folks over at Politicususa did, and they have written a post to expound on that ingenious idea right here and it does a very reasonable job of capturing the spirit of the Socratic method as it might apply to somebody with Sarah Palin's mercurial grasp of reality. (By the way I was a philosophy nut when I was in high school, and later in college. I studied all of the great western philosophers including Descarte, Spinoza, and Plato, as well as many of the eastern philosophers such as Lao Tsu and Miyamoto Musashi. In the end I would have to sum up my experiences with philosophy in much the same way that Steve Martin did when he said "I learned just enough philosophy to screw me up for the rest of my life." Ain't THAT the truth?)
He took a look at the Facebook pages of some other politicians, from Mitt Romney to Obama, and found that they did not delete the sorts of comments that were pulled from Palin's page. Dickerson said that less than 1 percent of the comments on Obama's page were deleted.
Dickerson told me he is not suggesting that Palin, who has more than 2 million Facebook fans, is guilty of some "huge moral failing." But by deleting so many comments, he argued, Palin is distorting the notion that Facebook can provide a platform for an honest and open give-and-take between public servants and the public.
He said Palin's practice is more like a town hall meeting where friendly questions are planted in the audience -- it looks genuine, but it's not.
And just to end this round up on a humorous note, one of my biggest supporters, and an invaluable resource for this blog, sent me this clip from October 2008, of the incredibly talented John Cleese giving HIS opinion of Sarah Palin. It is almost two years old, but trust me it is just as relevant today as it was back then. Enjoy.
RUN AWAY, RUN AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteOn a side note,
ReplyDeleteCleese is my all time favorite of all the MP men. He's just so bloody brilliant!
The people at Politucususa gave her too much credit. Do you really think Sarah Palin knows what a 'city state' is?
ReplyDeleteOh too, too funny! You need to put a caution alert for drinks and food before reading the Raisins...
ReplyDeleteMy favorite line regarding Lashrew De Fuzzihead (Sarah Palin) " Along with her Miss Wasilla sashes, her trademark is the letter “L” monogrammed on her shirts and sweaters." .... Loser Lashrew, love it!
Good one! I love the Laverne & Shirley poster and John Cleese!
ReplyDeleteLove John Cleese, now if only Sarah were an EX-parrot, who has passed on, is no more, has ceased to be!
ReplyDeletePalin for President of the Kingdom of Facebook!
ReplyDeleteWarning, put down any liquid refreshment before viewing!

Palin for President!
ReplyDeleteOh wait... nevermind. He's English.
Damnit.
I used to think Gryphen was painstakingly (and painfully) reviewing hours of Palin videos to brilliantly extract just exactly the precise selected individual frames that make her look characteristically mean, dopey, confused or constipated. But then I slo-moed my own way thru some recent Fox 'commentary interviews' with LeShawn Hannity and Bill'O Reilly and discovered that almost any randomly chosen frame from any random video will do the job. Gryphen, just because your job turns out to be easier than I thought doesnt mean Im not grateful for the work you do!
