President Obama demonstrates why he is the right person to lead this country by standing up to the purveyors of hate and intolerance who want to punish the American Islamic community for the horrors of 9-11.

Who could argue with the sentiments epressed by this amazing man?  Sorry for a moment I forgot about the lunatics on the far right and their desire to "refudiate" the plan for this building.

Of course even before President Obama gave this intelligent and compassionate speech Sarah Palin had already tweeted her xenophobia and intolerance:

Will Obama express US lingering pain& ask Muslims for tolerance by discouraging 9/11 mosque while he celebrates Islamic holy month tonight?

She is asking the MUSLIMS for tolerance? Oh that's rich! (I wonder if Palin would feel as comfortable demanding tolerance from these people as well? Or does that only apply to those of a DIFFERENT faith?)

And then later she re-tweeted a story written earlier in the day by Fox News contributor and hateful little prick Charles Krauthammer, who continues to play fast and loose with the facts by claiming this is a mosque, when in fact it is an Islamic Center, and that it is to be built AT Ground Zero instead of two blocks away.

I have to say that every time something like this comes up I almost feel compelled to fall to my knees and give thanks that Barack Obama, and NOT McCain/Palin, is running this country. It literally makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up just thinking about how badly all of this could have turned out.

IF Sarah had a brain or any shred of decency she would be ashamed of herself right now.

    But I'm certain she's not.

Your hate is consuming you, Sarah - it's already making you ugly.

We will all join you in giving thanks about not having McCain-Palin in charge!

President Obama is a blessing - particularly after eight years of stupid. Mind you, we have way too much of stupid left in terms of the Party of No.

Now, if Orange Man, Michelle Bachmann, Demint, McCain and all the rest would just go away to their very own island where no broadcast signal can reach - ah, peace - at least until we heard their itty bitty heads explode with frustration.

I find it interesting that Sarah portrays herself as such a staunch believer in constitutional rights...unless SHE doesn't agree with it. Everyone, including Muslims, have the right to practice their religion freely, whether Sarah Palin likes it or not. She wants to pick and choose which parts of the constitution she follows. That's like following only the parts of the Bible you agree with. Ooops...Sarah does that, too!

  6. Obama said. "This is America, and our commitment to religious freedom must be unshakable."

"Our capacity to show not merely tolerance, but respect towards those who are different from us – and that way of life, that quintessentially American creed, stands in stark contrast to the nihilism of those who attacked us on that September morning, and who continue to plot against us today," he said.

    Compared to:

    Ground Zero Mosque supporters:
doesn't it stab you in the heart, as it does ours throughout our heartland?
    Peaceful Muslims pls refudiate.

    And:
Peaceful New Yorkers, pls refute the Ground Zero mosque plan, if you believe catastrophic pain caused @Twin Towers site is too raw, too real

    Amazing isn't it?

A POTUS showing leadership, a true statesman, compared to a shrill, hate-filled hillbilly who can't get over the fact she lost in '08.

She has done everything she can to divide the country and attempt to undermine the Obama Whitehouse, starting with her "death panels".

"Seniors and the disabled "will have to stand in front of Obama's 'death panel' so his bureaucrats can decide, based on a subjective judgment of their 'level of productivity in society,' whether they are worthy of health care."

That outrageous lie became dubbed the WORST political lie of the year.

What a piece of work, a nasty piece of work, is Sarah Palin!

With all the mass communications media we have today (radio, TV, cable, twitter, FaceBook, etc.), she still gets her facts wrong. Of course, she is not the only one, but she seems obsessed with proclaiming her ignorance and spreading lies.

Some people never learn. Some people cannot learn. Some people just don't give a damn. Which category best suits Sarah? If you say she cannot learn because of her arrogance and attitude, then I'd wager she fits all three!

I will be so glad when that woman is finally discredited. Someone somewhere sometime will come forth with the goods on her.

There will be rejoicing over all the land when that happens!

Why is it that so many "pastors" feel the need to be so POLITICAL, lately?

Selling T-shirts, for cryin' out loud...if Jesus shows up today, he'll do what he did in the Temple back on his last visit: overturn the tables of the hypocrits and heathen mocking the church by merchandising on its premises.

If you attend church, you should drop a hint to your minister, maybe as a note in the offering plate, that the House of the Lord is not the place for spewing his personal political agenda...that to do so is to spit in the face of God...and if he really believes anything he preaches, he should realize just how much he is flirting with spiritual consequences.

More than 40 Top Religious Leaders Denounce Growing Anti-Muslim Sentiment; Express Support for NY Mosque, Community Center
Challenge Newt Gingrich and Sarah Palin To Stop Exploiting Fear

More than 40 prominent Christian, Jewish and Muslim leaders and religion scholars issued a statement today condemning the "xenophobia and religious bigotry" fueling the increasingly strident opposition to a proposed Islamic center and mosque near Ground Zero. These leaders from New York City and across the country are specifically challenging the divisive rhetoric of Newt Gingrich and Sarah Palin, who have strongly opposed a center that will promote interfaith relations, combat extremism, and offer community programs for Americans of all religious backgrounds.

"It's simply wrong for Newt Gingrich and Sarah Palin to malign all Muslims by comparing this cultural center and mosque with a radical ideology that led to the horrific attacks of 9-11," said Sister Simone Campbell, Executive Director of NETWORK, A National Catholic Social Justice Lobby. "We fail to honor those killed by terrorists when we betray the bedrock principle of religious freedom that has guided our democracy for centuries."

Newt Gingrich recently claimed that the Cordoba House "... is a sign of their contempt for Americans and their confidence in our historic ignorance that they would deliberately insult us this way." Palin called plans for the center a "provocation" that "stabs at the heart."

The story of the tale of the Mosque at "Ground Zero"

    http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2010/8/14/893008/-The-story-of-the-tale-of-the-Mosque-at-Ground-Zero

A new poll conducted by Fox News (yes Fox news) shows that while a big majority of americans think that the project of building a Mosque "near Ground Zero" (it's actually 2 blocks away) is inappropriate, a strong 61% of them think The Muslim Group behind the Mosque Project has the right to build the Mosque there.

Anonymous @ 8:16, I don't need to remind my pastor of that. The vast majority of churches don't need to be reminded of that. What you seem to be referencing are the Evangelical mega-churches, and even they don't represent all Evangelism. It's important not to indulge in generalities on this topic, as we can see by the Mosque issue. People who come here to read updates are likely not members of the mega-churches you revile, anyway, so your admonition is doubly wasted.

Back to the post topic, I love Obama SO MUCH. He is the embodiment of integrity. He may have to play political hardball sometimes, and yes he may have to compromise, but on the important things he stands up for what is in his heart. A truly great man with a brilliant mind. He is so unbelievably strong, mentally, and also so intellectually disciplined, that he can keep focused on the actual truth in the midst of so much confusing garbage and so many pressures coming at him from all sides. He is an astounding person and we are truly, truly blessed that he is in the White House at this point in history.

Lets count up all those whom the Republibaggers have managed to alienate, so far:

Okay, we have anyone not of the Christian faith, as well as some of the more sane folks who are; most black people; most policemen and firemen who recently found out they are considered frivolous by the far right; pretty well ALL Mexicans; teachers (insert eye roll here); anyone trying to collect unemployment insurance after paying in premiums all their lives; anyone hoping to collect on Social Security, after paying in all their lives; all those who have been ripped off by the health insurance companies who were not at all "reformed" by the ravaged "Obamacare" bill, thanks to its teeth being removed by congressionals bought and paid for, by those insurers; union members; scientists; and, of course, the gays.

Gee, that's about HALF the population right there! Wait until the easily duped white middle class has it finally dawn on them, that the Republican agenda revolves mainly around setting it up that the richest 2% of Americans, pay the least in taxes, and they are expected to pick up the difference, and there will only be a few hundred of the batcrazy Palinbots and other whackos, left to vote for them.

I'm wondering how Palin, Huckabee, and the Fuchs Noose/Palin bots feel about getting b!t*h slapped by a CIC, president, and constitutional law professor.

The Fuchs Noose panel conceded this AM that the president is right because it's his job to defend the Constitution.

I think Palin's working with Mansour as I type on her next FB refudiation of the president's speech. I wonder if they'll manage to work another dig about the president's having been a constitutional law professor? Personally, I wouldn't put it past her as there is no boundary that Palin won't cross in her attempt to show how dumb and uninformed she is. She knows squat about the Constitution.

This whole situation has to be seen from a symbolic perspective. The 9/11 attacks were seen by the radical Muslims as a victory. The Islamic center is being seen by many as a "planting of the victory flag". (Incidentally this particular site was chosen because one of the attacking plane's landing gear had touched the roof of the building on that proposed site. And so it is being seen by the planners as a sign from God that this should be the chosen site). At least for me the symbolism is really glaring here. They say that a broken clock is right twice. In this particular case I agree with Sarah.

Cardinal O'Malley Backs Obama On Religious Freedom

"During the interview she also asked me about the plan to build a mosque in New York, very close to Ground Zero. I told her it is a sign of the value we have for freedom in this country, and for religious freedom in particular. We certainly do not want to support groups that promote terrorism, but there are many American citizens who are Muslim, and they have a right to practice their faith. Having a mosque near the site of the attack can be a very important symbol of how much we value religious freedom in this country."

Your Rights, According to Sarah Palin

    http://malialitman.wordpress.com/2010/08/14/your-rights-according-to-sarah-palin/

In the fall of 2008 another attack occurred. It was an attack on the safety and security of America. The nomination of Sarah Palin was tragic, embarrassing, frightening, and a threat to the principles for which this country stands.

For two years we have read books, magazines, and newspapers to educate ourselves about the hockey mom from Alaska.

For two years I have written articles about the Ex-Half-Term Governor; some expressing outrage and others expressing disbelief. Sometimes the disbelief would get the better of me and humor was the only relief available.

There was always plenty about which to laugh. Grandma Palin mangled the English language, her family members have been arrested, she declared that the be-heading of a turkey on national television was “fun”, she has endorsed people who admitted to commission of felonies, and she misstates facts like where Ronald Reagan attended school.

Yet, in case we lost our focus over the last two years, the Facebook post of Palin regarding the proposed construction of the mosque in New York reminds us about everything that is wrong with Sarah Palin.

Her use of the term “refudiate” reminded us of just how ignorant she is. The fact that she posted something on Facebook, instead of commenting in an interview, graphically illustrated that she isn’t capable of thinking on her feet.

A Grandma from Alaska, who had probably never been to New York City before 2008, who is no longer a politician, had no business commenting publically about a Mosque. The fact that she posted an opinion about a Mosque in New York City was an example of the unrealistic importance she places on her opinion,…about anything. To suggest that she had insight worth sharing was ludicrous. The fact that she was even talking about it was an example of her attempt to tap into the bigotry and racism that has come to define who she is.

Let's apply a bit of critical thinking to your statements:

"The Islamic center is being seen by many as a 'planting of the victory flag'." Please clarify: Who are these "many," and how "many" actually see the proposed construction of the Islamic center this way? Can you cite some actual facts to back up this assertion?

"This whole situation has to be seen from a symbolic perspective." Symbolic for who, exactly? Oh, then I read on and see this: "At least for me the symbolism is really glaring here." So, am I to infer that by "many," you actually mean "me," as in "In my opinion, the Islamic center is a 'planting of the victory flag', and that the basis for this assertion is not actual fact but solely your opinion? If so, your comment would have been clearer and more honest if you stated that from the outset instead of using wording to imply that the victory symbolism is a widely accepted truth.

Even so, I give you props for posting a pro-Palin comment here! Notice that it has not been deleted, as a comment from the opposition would almost certainly have been on, say, Sarah Palin's Facebook page.

So Sarah thinks the President has no cojones? I'd say disagreeing with nearly 70% of the population and proudly saying so takes some pretty big ones. I get a warm & fuzzy knowing our President is sticking to his principles rather than trying to win a popularity contest. Someone actually commented (on some inconsequential site) that the fact that Obama ignores approval ratings makes him a bad President. I'm thankful he's more concerned with doing the right thing. His record will speak for itself.

Bill Mahaer has deemed this the typical right wing "anal reference".

When you have nothing factual, just dig deep into that nether region and fling out the foulest thing imaginable, then tout it as "fact".

As long as it supports your point of view it doesn't matter if it's true or not, or HOW much it stinks.

Just fling it out repeatedly and when your listening audience is covered in it , they will hoist up their white flag and believe you just so you'll stop.

  34. It is just so strange that we speak of christian Americans and islamic Americans and hindu Americans and jewish Americans, when really we are all just Americans. Faith or no faith; we are all American and America allows those that choose to practice a faith to practice it without fear of retribution. That's why America exists; one does not have to fear death or stoning for being a christian or muslim, one does not have to fear being stoned or killed for being an anti theist.

I do get mad about the 1954 addition to the pledge of 'one nation under god', and I get a little upset that all of our potus's have to pretend to be christians, but that is the price they pay for doing political business in America. At least most of our leaders pretend to have faith just to placate the voting masses. The one's that are truly scary are the ones that believe that the christian bible is the actual playbook for how human life on Earth will play out.

I just wish that we could get one strong Anti Theist in a position of power in America; we non believers are always left with voting for the lesser of two evils. Perhaps in a few hundred years the stigma of having no god will finally be no stigma at all.

Of the many silly comments that you made, I found one to be especially ridiculous: that the site was chosen because the landing gear had touched the building. Really?!?! First, the planes hit too high and were nowhere near the roof of any other building. Did you even see the video of the approaches of the planes and the impacts? Second, it's not likely that the landing gear was engaged. They weren't trying to land the planes. Third, they were incinerated, likely along with the landing gear.

Everyone knows that the building is a community center and not a mosque. Everyone knows that the building is at least 2 LONG city blocks from ground zero. There are people that keep repeating misinformation publically in spite of the facts. This is intentional. Shame on them. We Americans are better people than to succumb to hate-inspired false claims. Join us Anonymous 9:53: It is not a mosque, it is a community center; it is not at ground zero, it is blocks away; no landing gear was involved in the development of the community center; there is no victory flag; Sarah is not a broken clock, but she is broken.
