Bill Maher has a message for ungrateful Democrats.

It is time for progressives to stop bitching and start pitching in to win these upcoming elections in November, and then later the Presidential election in 2012.

Obama is not the Messiah, get the fuck over it!  He is a very gifted man who had a herculean task to do, and he is DOING it!  How do you think McCain would have fared?  Or George W. Bush?  Or, heaven forbid, Sarah Palin?

Progressives are a very hard to please bunch, believe me I hear criticisms for things I post on this blog from them constantly!  However we have to realize that our criticisms of the fact that President Obama has not done EVERYTHING, is being picked up by the Right Wing and twisted to make it seem that we are critical because he has not done ANYTHING!

We are in a war for the hearts and minds of the people who are not paying the kind of close attention that we are paying to what is going on in this country, and it is self defeating to hand our opposition ammunition to attack this President.  He is, after all, our President, and he should be able to rely on the fact that we have his back.  Don't you think?

We know they cannot beat him in 2012, but they CAN use the perception of progressive disappointment to help defeat Democrats in the upcoming elections.

Go Ethan and Diane! Let's get rid of that inept fool, Sean Parnell. Thanks for all the light you're bringing to the importance of that particular campaign, Gryph!

If the American people do not rise to this occasion, congress will be renamed THE ASYLUM.

In their "anger" over not being rescued quickly enough by the Democrats voted in not even 2 years ago, the country has chosen to support the craziest newcomers they can find.

The responsible citizenry must do all they can to stop this ridiculous trend.

Things may be bad, but man, they will get MUCH worse, if the team of witches and goblins and total fools, are put in charge!

Thanks for your efforts to unseat Sean Parnell. This is one of the most important political races in Alaska!

Hopefully, the election of Ethan will help rid the state of Palin's cronys and free-up Alaska to move forward!

    Good luck!

I totally agree! Obama has been relentless in his pursuit for change and progress, working tirelessly to accomplish his goals, but he can't do it alone. No other president has faced such extreme criticism and blatant disrespect from senators and congressmen who refuse to even work on legislation and vote on bills, let alone the media who spew hate about him 24/7!

I believe Obama and Biden want what's best for this country and the others are evil, greedy, soul-less politicians who will say and do anything Rupert Murdock, Fox and the big money, special interest groups want them to.
They spout lies and nonsense that they can't explain and don't understand, but they are given their talking points so they all sound consistent in their craziness.

We cannot let these idiots run the country because they are backed by big oil, big banks, big insurance and any other evil, greedy corporations who only want power and profits and don't care about the corruption needed to achieve this.

  8. I think we have spines and will vote as we did in 08. We do not have all the silly people who the media LOVE to show on the news. We are too smart and we have too much class for that.

The Tea Baggers cry about spending yet they have no defense when asked what would they have done rather than the stimulus.

Unemployment would be at 16% had there been no stimulus and the baggers just glaze over.

Fired up and ready to Vote...DEM! No way, no how do we need the baggers and the Boehners to take control. Hell, they are controlling things now and they aren't even in the majority. It pisses me off, but I'll be damned if I'll have anything to do with letting them take the majority. Some people say they just aren't going to vote. Well, that does a lot of good now doesn't it. No vote is a vote for the baggers. Please everyone who wants some sanity, please vote the midterms and vote Democratic.

    AKjah:
I prefer to think of our current political climate in these terms, which I already posted on gawker, which probably makes me lame, but whatever,

Our choices are between a reasonable and intelligent man who people put a lot of expectations on and who has to wobble through the slow mechanism of government, and yelling ninnies who believe homosexuality should be illegal, global warming is a myth and little girls raped by their daddies should be forced to have babies. In other words: Clinton Lite v. Rabid Dogs.

Obama should have been tougher. Reid needs to be replaced as majority leader with a badass. And there are many spineless Dems. However, if the prospect of keeping nutballs like Joe Miller, Sharon Angle, Carly Fiorina, Christine O'Donnell, Rand Paul and Linda McMahon doesn't get you excited then you're not paying attention.

We've already instituted some awesome new reforms, we have a chance for more. Plus, you never know, there might be another opportunity, soon, for a a new Supreme Court justice. That's huge! Just think of all of the shit created by Citizens United. If the GOP take over the SEnate, we can expect BHO to have to appoint conservative judges. Which means we can count on more of that shit. Gay marriage will be deemed unconstitutional, abortion rights will continue to be taken away. Ugh, it makes me have a headache. I'm, if possible, more excited about this election than I was about 2008. So much more is at stake. We have to do this, guys. We have to!

  12. As someone living on the other side of the world I greatly fear that the Dems are so short sighted and pissed off because they think Obama has let them down...they will stay home and let the Repubs win by default. The world can't afford that to happen so please, get out in November and campaign for 2012 ... to protect America and the world against the Repubs.
    cheers

I totally agree and love to listen to and watch Bill Mahrer. President Obama is doing the very best he can even with that horrid 'party of no' group.

Berkowitz would be a wonderful choice for Alaska and I plan to vote for him and Diane Benson.

    Those Republicans need to go!!!!

Thank you for this post, Gryphen.

I have to say, the rhetoric coming from some so-called progressives has devolved to the point where I'm thinking they may as well join forces with the Tea Baggers and form a third party. Their screeds are identical: President Obama is destroying the country, he has a hidden corporatist/globalist/socialist agenda. Blah, blah, whatever.

I can't agree with everything the president has done since taking office (in fact, I imagine he himself, as grown-up person, often ponders the stark disparity between campaign promises and the actual work of governing a crazy nation), but I feel he's doing the best anyone could do under extremely trying circumstances. I never expected him to be a messiah when I voted for him. Those who thought he'd immediately work miracles, and do everything their immature hearts desire, should take a very long break to examine their own grip on reality. In the meantime they should stop running their mouths.

Thanks, Gryph. And great comments on this post as well.

The Neocon nimrods' plan should they be elected is to stall any further progress, find anything and everything to implicate our President, devote all their time to impeaching him, retract anything Obama has accomplished so far, and then blame the Dems for getting nothing done in 2011-2012. By then, the country will really be in a desperate funk and the big $$$ behind these weasels will be relentlessly pu$hing the public to vote the Dems out in 2012, for the good of "rill 'Murika".

Okay, all together now. Can you say "President Palin"?

Good. I know you can't. NOW GET OFF YOUR BUTTS AND PUT IT IN DRIVE!!!

Well, when the media chooses people like Jane Hamsher to speak for all progressives that IS a problem. She's little more than a sourpuss and somehow has appointed herself goddess of progressives. Her behavior..the constant bitching--in politics is the exact same behavior she exhibited in Hollywood when no one handed her an Oscar. I knew her then and never liked her. So rather than be a positive person she wrote a crappy little book whining about everything Hollywood. Then she runs away and inserts herself in politics. It makes me ill. She will never speak for me. Plus her constant demonizing of centrist Dems is disgusting. What am I supposed to tell people like that in my family? Vote Repub? Hell no, I'm not going to make enemies of those voters but listening to some progressives that's exactly what they do. The Dem party is either a big tent with all voices heard or it's a bitch session party split by certain progressives who have shown little tolerance. I'm sick of it. I don't need the label progressive since I'm an old fashioned liberal...willing to listen and work with all in my party. SO screw the whiners.

  19. As far as I can tell, no one is asking the GOP to explain how they have helped our economy grow. What has the GOP done to spur economic growth....oh wait.. So tell me why you would vote for slackers, name callers, fear mongers, and a party that demands lock step.

  20. I'm even (reluctantly) voting for my Blue Dog Congress Critter. Bad as he is, he's better than the corporate whore Republican running against him.

  21. Well thank you Bill Maher. At last. But for this to work you and others like you, who have a public pulpit from which to speak, have to give up complaining about Obama's [fill-in-the-blank] to [fill-in-the-blank]. [I've quit reading Maureen Dowd's teabagging complaints altogether.]

Try to focus on the stuff about him you DO like. And thanks for getting back on the I'D-VOTE-FOR-HIM- EVERY-TUESDAY-FROM-NOW-UNTIL-THE-END-OF-2016-IF-I-COULD bandwagon. Not because he's some kind of "savior" but because he's the first intelligent, well-read, thinking, acting adult in the Presidency in 30 years, the wonderfulness of Bill Clinton not excepted.

It's very simple. The President cannot continue to move the country forward without Democratic majorities in both houses. So, get out there and vote.
