Here is Teabagger Joe Miller's entire press conference from yesterday.

As you can see the bitching and complaining that people are finding out things that Miller thought they could not find out starts the MINUTE he gets behind the podium. (Interesting side not: Miller and his wife spent a great deal of time standing off to the side and going over his notes before he finally walked over to the non-functioning microphone.)

As for the actual scrutiny, Miller seems to believe that he is special and will not have to be scrutinized like EVERY OTHER CANDIDATE.  He targets the Alaska Dispatch for their so-called "journalistic objective" because essentially THEY are the only local news organization that seems to be doing their jobs!  And it pisses Miller off that they do.

Did he just say "We are like you?"  Holy shades of Christine O'Donnell Batman!" Are these Teabaggers getting all of their talking points from the same source? (By the way did you notice he did NOT deny he was a witch? Or that he was endorsed by one?)

"You can ask me about background, you can ask me about personal issues, I am NOT going to answer them.  I'M NOT!"  (Just the kind of maturity that one would expect from a Senate candidate isn't it?)
Okay now the video abruptly ends right as Miller starts to talk about the letter that he received from the ten year old child (Dennis Zaki's camera ran out of storage space right at that moment.) What Miller did next was to hold up a child's drawing saying that he should "fight for Alaskans" and on the back the boy had taped a bunch of quarter from his allowance to donate to the campaign.  Miller used this letter to point out the type of support his campaign was receiving, which apparently comes from children who cannot vote and don't understand the issues.

Immediately after talking about his pre-adolescent support, Miller took his notes and, quite literally, fled from the room, refusing to take ANY questions from the numerous local journalists gathered there, and quickly herding his wife through the nearest door to the podium. The press started to grumble and some even began chuckling at the absurdity of the "press conference." (It should be noted that immediately prior to this debacle that Miller spent several minutes giving a rather expansive interview to Greta Van Susteren, before coming out and telling the local media that he had nothing more to say to them.  Here is that interview.)

This last piece of footage was taken by another videographer and shows Miller identifying self ordained "bedroom cop" Jim Demint as the Senator that he most admires. (Listen for the moans from the audience as he makes that announcement.)

So to sum this post up, what we learned about Miller yesterday is that he CLEARLY has something to hide, and doesn't want it discovered.  That he admires a Senator who would encourage the government to spy on people in their bedrooms so that they could be fired from their jobs. And that he is a coward who cannot stand up to media scrutiny. I think that is pretty much Joe Miller in a nutshell, don't you agree?

    Joe Miller loses. End game.

However, much like Sarah and Bristol, he's going to be given credibility from high profile conservative mechanisms after election day.

Or an offer to be a spokesmodel for Just for Men hair products. Are they a Kock Bros. company?

This fucking waste-of-space grifter has got it made even though he hasn't accomplished anything or earned anything to warrant his household name recognition.

Has anybody written to the St. Louis records center for military personnel to ask for a copy of his DD 214?
I know, I'm showing my age. But I remember that some of the phony Vietnam vets were outed that way - the guys who would show up at veterans' dedications wearing raggedy clothes and claim they were messed up from being in Vietnam. And then when some real veterans began writing for copies of these guy's service records, it would turn out the guy in question had been a cook at Fort Riley or some such thing.
Of course, his Social Number would be redacted, but the record would also show other stuff.

I feel sorry for his wife. She looks so much older and looks like
she has been rode hard and put up wet. She just looks tired and worn out. I would be willing to bet she is kept like a lap dog, and is not able to have a voice in anything in their house. To the first poster, there's no need to insult Joe Miller's wife's hair, ok? Please, let's just let our opponents traffic in that kind of pettiness. (Think: Carly Fiorina's catty remarks about Barbara Boxer's hair.)Besides, there's nothing wrong with his wife's appearance, and for all we know, she may be a genuinely decent person who loves her husband, despite what is obvious to us, his unattractive character flaws.

Miller's shady professional background and hateful philosophy provide more than enough material for us to talk about.

Big mistake to a) have that creep of a wife by his side; and b) chew gum at your own press conference. This guy is hardly worth a comment. He can't even get a mike to work or hold the conference in a quiet room. He's cooked, because the private information will come out, and it's obvious he's very worried about it.

Miller is just keeping to the tea party rule of shutting out the media. Sharron Angle held a "free speech" event in NV a few days ago. Only one conservative radio host was allowed at the event. The rest of the media was barred from attending. So much for Angle's "free speech" event. Free speech exists for tea partiers, not so much for the rest of us. Folks like Angle, Rand Paul, and Miller are very dangerous to our democracy because they want to be elected to Congress to run the country but don't want to be accountable to the people who put them in office. If they run away from the press and the public now, we know they'll do the same thing once they're members of Congress.

  29. It is funny that people are mentioning Miller's gum chewing during his press conference. I was standing pretty close to Miller during his interview with Van Susteren, and she ASKED him to get rid of his gum. He refused, and instead tucked it into his cheek during the interview.

Perhaps chewing gum steadies his nerves, or else it might be nicotine gum to fight the urge to smoke with cameras around. I don't know for sure. I just thought it kind of odd.

  35. Anonymous9:39 AM

His wife looked uncomfortable. If you watch her carefully, it seemed as if at several points she was resigned to what he was saying, not supportive of it. Interesting body language that.

Joe Miller doesn't seem to understand that he's running for a public service job.

I think the real reason he's running for Senate is money. He sees it as a chance to get lots of money, a housing allowance, travel allowance, office allowance, health insurance, and retirement benefits for very few work years. Oh, yeah, money, money, money.

Plus, he will get to be in the limelight so he can position himself for even more lucrative positions once he gets voted out or finds something that is easier and pays more money.

This man is unwilling to be scrutinized as any potential employee would be (firms run credit checks on applicants all the time and they also call prior bosses to find out the real dirt -- they don't rely upon written references). Good grief, he wants Alaskans to give him this job without doing any background checks.

How many Alaskan business owners would hire someone for a top position without checking the applicant out as closely as they could? How many would hire someone with questionable financial records? Gees, Miller is being unrealistic and is playing the victim card just to get out of answering questions.

He sure doesn't show any respect for the press (at least the "minor" press as opposed to Fox News folks).

He has no patience and gets angry fast - just watch how he handled the sound problem. I think he probably has anger management problems. I sure wouldn't want him representing us at a national level.

I wouldn't want that man dating my daughter. I'm not sure how disciplined he is -- in staying with a job, in keeping his temper, in showing respect, et cetera.

He doesn't handle frustration well. If things don't go his way, he gets mad, shuts down or moves on. Think about that. Not indicative of someone who can work well with others to "get things done."

OK Joe. YOU have made it clear.

You are obviously a stealth candidate.

Which is not any surprise because that was known from the start.

Your views, background, friends, supporters, and financiers are all off limits according to you.

You have been careful to obscure your footprints in the sand. Have all your fellow travelers been as careful? Why?

If you and your supporters are monitoring the real sources of information, there is something to keep in mind. Do you assume that because all your dirty laundry is not yet fully hung in public that no one knows how much dirty laundry you have? You are wrong if you think that.

Weeks to go before this election; and even if you withdraw from the race the information will be exposed.

You are not alone in what you are doing, and fellow participants in your election scheme must be exposed. These people include the Palins and others.

There is something fundamentally wrong with you Joe Miller if you think you can be a secret candidate for any public office, much less the U.S. Senate. The same defect is present in those supporters that think you should not provide the information requested, OR EVEN MORE SO- if by their membership in your secret groups and plots they already know your history, background and plans.

Your carelessness in covering up the footprints has left the necessary trails to follow. The trails do cross your line in the sand.

You seem to have the same defect that other Alaskan politicians share-thinking (and acting like) all these questions asked of you are really about you. They are not. The questions are about the qualifications for the next Senator from Alaska.

    You have shown yourself lacking.

Hopefully enough voters will see this and your campaign will end in failure.

In any case Joe Miller, you have already failed ALL Citizens of the United States as other similar failed politicians like Sharron Angle,Christine O'Donnell, and Nazi reenactor Rich Iott have. Your attempted secret candidacy fails the test of democracy as the founding fathers intended it to be.

In your haze of obfuscation and secrecy and plotting, you are unable to see this. Or maybe you do see it and you think your ends justify your means.

I didn't plan to make negative comments on his wife but I would be willing to bet that at some point in his future in politics, should he have a future in politics, she will be one of the first casualties. Of course, he will have to clean himself up first.

Remember the pic with his hand around his wife's neck? There just seems something "off" about the way he treats her in public, what is it like in private? One of those "imperfections" he admits to? Could that have something to do with his early departure from the army? What do folks in Fairbanks know? Miller won't talk about his background, what is he hiding?

    ReplyDelete
  49. Joe, you can believe "You can ask me about background, you can ask me about personal issues, I am NOT going to answer them. I'M NOT!" all you want.

It's not your call. Because you are the potential employee, and your campaign is an extended job interview with the voters who may or may not choose to employ you as their representative in the Senate.

And as a potential employer, the voters want to see your resume. And your references. And interview you. And if they see something questionable on your resume, they are going to ask about it. And the press - not just Fox News but the ADN, Alaska Dispatch, etc are one of the voters/employer's representatives in the interview process.

And your temper tantrum tells them that they are right to suspect that you are hiding something negative, and they are right to be concerned about your fitness for the job.

Anonymous @ 7:42am: it's not so much the attack on her but on the image. Do you remember when Mikhail Gorbachav brought Raisa out to the world? He was saying, "Everything as you know it is about to get turned upside down!" Every other leader had wives who were in the background with bad teeth, dowdy clothes and had nothing to say while their men drank vodka and scared the sh-- out of the US. The Gorb loved her; she wasn't chattel to him. I don't see this with Joe and whatsername.

I see Miller's wife as a reflection of what Miller is offering us, setting women back 300 years. He doesn't give her money to look good. Do you remember the transformation of Princess Di? (Forgive me for bringing the poor lady up. May she rest peacefully!) If you look at a timeline of her
marriage and what was going on, you see it in her clothes!

I am not suggesting she be a clothes horse, but if he's going to drag her along, she needs to dress the part of a MODERN WOMAN if he isn't planning to send women back to the dark ages. (I think he does want to send women back, which is why I bring it up.)

Does Ethan's wife even show up? I presume she is too busy to tag along. If politicians want to bring their spouses along, they are a part of their image. Lisa's husband shows up places, he's a likable, good looking guy... But he neither adds nor detracts. This is the whole thing that any part of a politicians entourage is part of their package. Joe's wife speaks volumes about him and what she is saying is not very positive.
