They sent the ballots where? |
Republican candidate Joe Miller is accusing the state Elections Division of moving the write-in ballot count beginning Wednesday from Anchorage to Juneau.
State elections officials say the count has always been planned for Juneau.
Miller's attorney, Thomas Van Flein, sent the state Division of Elections a letter calling the Juneau location "inconvenient," and suggesting that the write-in count instead be done in Anchorage.
Most of the observers they want to use are from Anchorage, the Mat-Su Valley or Fairbanks, he said.
"By removing the ballot count from Anchorage to Juneau, the state is adding tens of thousands of dollars in costs to the campaign in travel and lodging," the attorney wrote.
Elections Director Gail Fenumiai denied the location had been moved.
"It was never changed, it was always going to be in Juneau," she said.
Her office did not consider moving the write-in count after receiving the Miller campaign's letter last week, she said.
"I'm not sure why the state would do that if the ballots are already here in a secure facility, where they have been since election night. This is where the ballots come following every election," she said.
"This is onerous and essentially chills and infringes the Miller campaign's right to meaningfully observe the ballot count," Van Flein stated in the letter.
Okay this is just hysterical! So in other words, Miller is pissed because the recount is going to take place in the same location where the ballots currently are, instead of loading them on a plane and sending them to a location that is more convenient for Joe Miller and his gang of thugs to stand over the ballot counters as they do their job and intimidate them into throwing him the election?
Kind of hard to be schoolyard bully when the people you want to bully won't come to your schoolyard isn't it "Oh Vaguely Bearded One?"
Update: Miller sues over spelling.
Miller is asking a judge to stop the state from making a judgment on a voter's intentions if the voter wrote in something other than "Murkowski" or "Lisa Murkowski." State law allows no leeway for other spellings, his lawsuit says.
I seem to remember SOMEBODY complaining that Lisa Murkowski was not respecting the will of the people. Yet when the people speak in a way that is not in their favor, Miller has no problem trying to have votes that are clearly for Murkowski thrown out because of a missing letter or inaccurate spelling.
Alaskans should be thanking their lucky stars that Gestapo Joe won't be their next senator.
ReplyDeleteWhy don't more Alaskans learn to live in the 21st century and just enjoy the beautiful environment up there and stop trying to destroy it?
And get rid of those fucking "snowmachines" while you're at it.
Joe:
ReplyDeleteCall Christine O'Donnell and while you are commiserating with her, you can secretly masturbate.
The state capital is still in Juneau, right?
ReplyDeletehaha .. go suck it, Joe.
I wonder who is really pulling the strings here? Sounds like they are trying to pull a Palin.
ReplyDeleteMakes joe sound like a bratty little boy....with an out dated beard.
Joe and Flea should argue that her real name is Elizabeth... and all ballots showing Lisa should be thrown out...
ReplyDeletePalin and her butt boy via the Flea, "We want special privileges" just like they wanted to
ReplyDelete(a) charge the state for staying in her own home! Yep, not wasting money there you betcha
(2) charging the state to haul her props, er kids, around on jets
(3) using false information to obtain special perks (hunting license for Joe)
(4) having subsidies for a "farm" that isn't farmed at all
(5) using state resources for political purposes (shocking!)
(6) having your house built with materials you didn't pay for and having "buddies" do the work
(7) having a chalet in the woods where you think nobody will notice and NOT paying your fair share of taxes on it and the blaming the town for NOT knowing you had built it.
Palin-Miller-Flea values: Alaska doesn't want them and neither do we in the lower 48!
Joe must be wearing out his welcome through his continual whining and gnashing of teeth.
ReplyDeleteWe shouldn't be surprised, though, After all, his mentor is Sarah Palin. He's simply emulating her victimhood. He's seen how it's enabled Sarah to steal the spotlight, perhaps hoping it will enable him to steal the election.
Perhaps Joe never played sports or had a good coach if he did. He should have learned about good sportsmanship: how to be win or lose gracefully, how it's just important to play the game well as it is to wing, how you pull yourself together and accept the rules of the game and the call of the ref's.
Joe Miller is the same kind of adolescent brat as Sarah Palin. He doesn't understand the spirit of the law, the game, or the quest. When things don't go just his way, he wails and whines.
We sure are learning a lot more about his dubious character as time goes on, and I bet few people are pleased by his conduct.
Those who did vote for him will eventually reach the cringe limit when they can no longer bear the thought that they actually supported such an immature and whiny guy.
Sarah knows that limit. Why else does she preempt the cry to "sit down and shut up." I bet she and Joe have heard that their entire lives. With good reason, I might add, if their adult behavior mirrors their youth.
Juneau is the capital of the state. 'Nuff said.
ReplyDeletePoor, poor Joe will have to cough up more Koch to pay the 'Rent-a-Goons'.
ReplyDeleteHis begging for money online to pay for this is hilarious knowing his slimy pocket is lined with Koch. Guess he, like Christine O'Donnell, has been funnelling off the funds to feed the 'cow & her herd' at home and all the other 'personal expenses'. Watch for all the bogus names of payments on the filings. Doing some factchecking will bring the truth out this guy is plain and simple - Scum.
Gryphen, It's 6:00 am in California. And I am here, looking for your most recent post. But this is the most delicious stuff ever. Can you add the People interview on the DWTS shennanigans? I think people would enjoy it. Van Fliet was in the the audience with his daughters...what a dorkus.
ReplyDeleteKinda makes you wonder if something was supposed to happen to the ballots during transport!
ReplyDeleteO/T
ReplyDeleteWatch for the Palin People mag interview about the reality show. People spent 2 days in the Palin home.
We already know it's bogus in that Palin has People on speed dial. An interview of Palin during the V/P campaign, the interviewer basically admitted she was sucking Palin's toes. You will recall too the quick online People site responses in the ongoing Levi battles.
Hey, lay off poor Joe. He's not from Alaska. Maybe he doesn't *KNOW* that the capital is Juneau, not Anchorage. Most of the rest of the US doesn't know it either.
ReplyDeleteThese people don't believe in democracy. It's "give us our way or else we'll bring out the guns".
ReplyDeleteIt is so anti-democracy and so unAmerican. They sound like the Taliban and they belong on an island.
These goons only cite "the will of the people" when it is to their advantage. Otherwise, the people can just suck it.
ReplyDeleteSo, can't Alaskans who voted for Murkowski countersue to make sure their INTENT was heard?
ReplyDeletePoor Joe. It sucks being him. Of course, it would suck worse if he was one of the senators from Alaska.
ReplyDeleteForgive me for my ignorance and lack of time to google, but isn't Juneau the capitol of Alaska?
ReplyDeleteI would think that would naturally be the place for the recount. Other than that the ballot are already there, of course.
So, what are the chances that Alaskans are finally going to get fed up with this kind of B.S. and just run Joe out of the whole state?
ReplyDelete"I seem to remember SOMEBODY complaining that Lisa Murkowski was not respecting the will of the people. Yet when the people speak in a way that is not in their favor, Miller has no problem trying to have votes that are clearly for Murkowski thrown out because of a missing letter or inaccurate spelling."
ReplyDeleteExactly!!! Miller and Palin, hypocrisy be thy name!
Rove playbook - get your name into every news cycle.
ReplyDeleteJoe Miller is smart enough to expend funds to get that all important mention. He won't be senator but he's got backing, money and tutors. And he probably knows enough Palin secrets to keep him sucking cash from the electorate for a long time.
Well, you know Joe Really Needed that federal job. How could this whack job who couldn't manage his own finances have the insane idea that he is capable of managing Alaskans' business? So why am I not surprised by his latest hijinks?
ReplyDeleteAlaska is going to be sick and tired of Joe before the counting is done. Good thing Lisa is still the Senator until January. Maybe, by then, the counting, suing, counting, suing... will be done.
ReplyDeleteWell, at least he'll have more time to grow a proper beard.
ReplyDeleteJoe's just pissed off that he's got curtains and a door plaque and no Senate office.
ReplyDeleteAn excellent commentary on Joe Miller's post election behavior is up at Wickersham's Conscience.
ReplyDeleteThe title is "Tired Of Joe".
It begins with " Joe Miller’s incessant whining is really starting to grate on WC. And WC is talking about the post-election sniveling, not all the nonsense that came before." LINK The comments are to the point.
Another excellent Alaskan blogger BTW. Lots more good stuff there.
Perhaps WC has seen the comments at this post at another Alaskan website. Was Joe unprepared for something else- or is there another explanation for the Governor pulling the nomination.
My first thought was, maybe Joe doesn't want to go to Juneau because of something shady, you know, like he has an arrest warrant waiting for him there or an unwed mother or something. Because as we know with Joe, whatever he says is to throw us off of something else.
ReplyDeleteAnd as for the spelling controversy, I asked this question on the ADN site. Why should voters and candidates be disenfranchised because a particular candidate has a harder name to spell than other candidates? What if your favorite candidate was named LaCroix or Gialopsos, and somebody else had a name like Ash or Jones. Is it fair to take away someone's vote just because they can't spell a complicated last name? Hell, they even make allowances for people who can't spell there own name. You know, getting someone to vouch for you when you sign your name with an X?
Rick
And yes, there should be a rule that you can't represent a state if you don't know where the capitol is.....
ReplyDeleteJoe sure is desperate, spending all that money he doesn't have hoping he will finally hit the big time.
Rick
Maybe DropZone Bill and his buddies did not include Juneau in their Area of Responsibility. Second amendment remedies planned for the wrong city? OOPS?
ReplyDeleteSay IT AIN'T SO JOE!
Actually the above is not a joke- but a serious question.
Read the quote below (there are many more similar and worse) and wonder- why did Joe pal around with wingnuts like this?
Is it because he does not think there is anything wrong with them?
Or did he just fail to know what type of 'security' forces he was using?
Here is what DropzoneBill (the alias of William Fulton of Drop Zone Security) had to say shortly before Tony Hopfinger was 'arrested' by DropZone at a Joe Miller campaign public event:
"October 17, 2010
"Travis
Thats why I said we all should know our flanks if your in My AOR by all means say hi tell me what area your operating in and how I can identify you same goes for me I will be more than happy to provide that same information to all those on my flanks by doing that before hand we can fix a lot of these issues what I don't agree with is getting involved with what ifs, triggers, internal politics, or communicating tactical information with other groups/units the less technical details we know about each other before the ballon goes up the better that way if one goes down for being stupid or set-up or both, the rest of us are clean. I'm not saying we should hide in the shadows by any means I just think tactical planning should stay within individual groups.
Get to know the guys and groups around you cut up the land scape like a pie each group having its own AOR it is responsible for. If your a lone operator it may just be your house or block but disseminate that information to the group or groups that butt up against you. Get a map of your area draw boundary lines, but that is all that should be on it. I have no problem sitting down with you or any of the other guys operating out of the Anchorage bowl and hacking out areas that way we all know each other and where everybody will operate the larger issues come when we start sharing plans and other tactical information."
Hummers and Military surplus truck get terrible mileage. Not to mention the damage the militia type would do pitching tents and digging latrines in the motel rooms the campaign would be renting...
I don't see why Miller should get any write in votes at all. His name was on the ballot so he shouldn't be entitled to any votes cast by people too dumb to see his name already there. Lt Gov Campbell said those votes wouldn't count so why did he change his mind?
ReplyDeleteHe says some of the missspelled write ins are actually protest votes for him. This is lawyer(lie-yer)truthiness and how the department of law is run. Unless someone writes in "Millerkowski" that is the lamest truthiness lawyer manipulation I have ever heard tell of.
ReplyDeleteVanFlein said, """By removing the ballot count from Anchorage to Juneau, the state is adding tens of thousands of dollars in costs to the campaign in travel and lodging," the attorney wrote."""
ReplyDeleteI'm asking him why that should matter?
Just ask your SugarCorp Koch Brothers for another $600,000 to cover your expenses. That's a drop in the bucket for them - a very cheap way to purchase the election, just like they purchased the primary for the Joker in August.
So, Thomas, why does the expense of taking your crew to Juneau matter?
I hope any votes such as "Fuck Joe Miller" are counted and reported.
ReplyDeleteAnd if the internets are the Miller campaign's resource for determining voter intent- then the intent of any votes for "Buttboy" or "Buttboy Joe" will be clearly not for Lisa. Or Scott.
SRSLY
Just google "buttboy joe" to see what turns up.
Results for "buttboy Van Flein" are a little more ambiguous.
If Joe was on Wheel of Fortune and
the phrase was "GET A -LUE" he'd try to buy a vowel.
Why would state wide elections not be counted in the the state's Capitol where the bureaucracy that controls state wide elections has its offices and employees? I realize there are logistical difficulties in Alaska, but then Alaska chose it's own capitol and it's Juneau.
ReplyDeleteSure there are enough TeePeeers in Juneau to help house Miller and his team.
Also too, isn't throwing out people's legitimate ballots kind of disrespectful. Shouldn't Republicans be getting all up in arms about, maybe a Government court ordering their votes thrown out?
Just curoius. How screwy is Miller?
ReplyDeleteIf anyone voted for a write in that doesn't closely resemble "Murkowski" wouldn't that be an indication of a Miller TeePeeer voting against Joe in order to try to create challengable ballots and possible nullification of the write in part of the election? like they effectively did in Florida?
In other words a TeePeeer who favors Miller, voting against Miller, so that if the write in count goes ahead and Lisa wins Miller would challenge the entire count by having some of his supporters vote in the write in in a way that causes ballot challenges.
And he is very likely to continue to loose this election?

ReplyDeleteKinda makes you wonder if something was supposed to happen to the ballots during transport!
Or something would happen to them if they were taking out of the control of the state elections professionals.
More Fail!!
ReplyDeleteJust found this in my email! A leak from the conpaign!
Section 43.89A. Billing procedure for travel expense But*boy for Senate 2010.
1. Begin with blank form with authorized signatures.
2. Place two or three in sock for later use.
3. Fill out numbers- amke some up if needed.
4. Remember that legit numbers dont end in even amounts. That means fake numbers like $2000.00 should be reported as $1999.99.
5. Call Dropzo** to pick up and turn into cash.(** means redacted for secrecy purposes). Theyn will hand carry to the real backers of BB and return the cash to who needs it.
6. If you are doin a Drop**ne cash outta thin air- then don't forget- Dropzo** only accepts bulle*s and other surplu* ge*r. Gold bars also too.
7. Any questions? See the party planner!
I wonder if Joe figured that since Sister Sarah got to operate out of an Anchorage office when governor that he could demand the same???
ReplyDeleteEven those "outside"(that strange AK expression) get that Juneau is not convenient to most of the populace, but it is the Capital.
Heck, Joe ran for a state-wide office. Of course, the write-in count would be in the capital.
Anything else makes absolutely no sense to me at all.
Hey, Miller is fighting for survival here. If he doesn't get the senator job he'll surely be out hunting on an indigenous permit next year. He won't have much of a law practice after this performance so he'll be back on the government tit once again, but for real this time.
ReplyDeleteI have been watching the count updates at ADN.
ReplyDeleteEarlier today, Miller's camp tried to get a vote for "Lisa, Murkowski" ousted. Yep, toss the vote over a comma.
So Miller wants the taxpayers to pay tens to hundreds of thousands of dollars to move the elections office to Anchorage to save him some $$$. He wants all the elections officials and employees to move to Anchorage for at least a week so things are easier for him? He wants them to leave their families so he can sleep in his bed and not have to pay his staff local assistants and lawyers to be out of town.
Oh, and he is requesting that every write-in ballot and every challenged ballot be taken out of locked storage, transported to the airport, loaded and unloaded on a plane and moved to an undecided location? Wonder which security company he would want to oversea the move. Could it be .... Drop Zone??
I think Joe lined up a ton of folks in Anchorage to volunteer for him as votes were being counted. Then he finds out he made a mistake, and can't afford to fly his lawyers, assistants, volunteers and himself to Juneau for a week. Joe has to leave his troop of volunteers at home.....
Hell, I bet Joe had folks in Anchorage ready to protest whenever he wanted them to. Now they have to come to Juneau to do so.
That's our Joe! Always lookin' out for the taxpayer!!
Oh; Van Flein said that "the National Republican Senatorial Committee and SarahPAC, Palin's political action committee, had assisted with the cost of the count." (Juneau Empire)
Message to Joe: You are not required to be at the counting. You and your staff can attend, but are not required to attend.
Of course, to Joe and Van Flein, this is more "proof" that the state elections office and Lt Gov are out to get him.
Is it me, or is it really disturbing that this man has 8 offspring to send into the world to further procreate?? Talk about tainting the gene pool.
This guy gives me the creeps. I can't wait until his sleazy face no longer graces the websites I visit.
