Palin was paid $75,000 to speak at fundraiser that will bring in "several hundred dollars." WTF? (Update: Headline should read "several hundred THOUSAND dollars.")

From 6abc.com:

School officials hope her appearance in the end will bring in several hundred dollars. Palin's appearance fee, thought to be $75,000, was reportedly covered by private donors.

Okay let me make a little confession here.  Your Uncle Gryphen is not exactly a math whiz.

Oh sure I can balance my checkbook and calculate how much to tip my waiter, but if I were your accountant you would probably be headed to jail.  Just so you know.

So perhaps it is due to my math dyslexia that  I am having trouble understanding WHY anybody would pay $75,000 to have somebody help to raise "several hundred dollars."  Why would it not make more sense, and have a much larger positive impact, if these "private donors" simply donated their $75,000 to the school? Did I forget to carry the 1 or something?

Okay well let's give the Plumstead Christian School people the benefit of the doubt.  I mean after all they ARE "educators!"

(Update:  Oops I have egg on my face.  I DID cut and paste that report above directly from 6ABC.com, and if you click the link you can still see that it is written that way,  but apparently whoever did the transcipt left off the THOUSAND after the hundred.  I should have caught that when I listened to the video of the news report but for some reason I didn't.  I apologize for the mistake. )

Seriously? They paid $75,000 to hear THAT speech?

All she is doing is saying the same stupid things over, and over, and over again.

Well at least it looks like she is aware that she is being redundant.  Here is what she said yesterday while making an appearance with Texas Governor Rick Perry.

Palin opened her talk with anecdotes about her family. At one point, she noted she has told many of the same stories before.

"I need to run for office just so I have more material to share in my speeches," she said to applause.

Okay did you catch that?  Palin actually said, in front of an audience even, that she is planning to run for office to have more anecdotes that she can then charge people between $75,0000 to a $100,000 to listen to.

It sounds like she is well aware that she can't win, but damn it, she needs new stories to tell!

You know if I idolized people who could manipulate morons out of their money, Sarah Palin would be my queen!

Just think about it for a minute.  She pretends to run a serious Presidential campaign, asking for millions of dollars in political donations.  She then quits part way through the election cycle to write a book, that these same people will pay $19.95 apiece to read, and then later will pay her an additional $100,000 in order to listen to her talk about it in person.  Fucking unbelievable!

I am beginning to think that the litmus test for mental retardation should simply be to ask somebody if they are a Sarah Palin supporter or not.  I mean seriously, is there a lower functioning group of people on this entire planet?

While I agree with you, the reporter did say "several hundred thousand dollars" in the news clip you posted...could the article have had a typo?

Joe Scarborough just said on "The View" that he doesn't think she is running, just trying to peak people's interest to make more money. I concur with that. Did you hear at the PA school, she asked a young student who sung if he was available to sing at an inauguration? That was intentional. You could tell she was so proud of her deception, really.

I have to laff - private donors paid her fee? why didn't the private donors just give the money to the school?

another interesting note - her fee has been lowered. used to be 100,000 for the east cost. HA! the well is running dry...

Where do you get 'several HUNDRED' dollars? I thought they raised something like $250,000, with a 'private' entity (?!???) paying for most of dear$arah's fees...

Palin is a pioneer in the field of launching and promoting your brand by running for office. See also, O'Donnell, Christine: She's been a professional candidate/self-promoter her entire adult life who recently bragged about book deals and other opportunities coming her way as the result of her failed bid in Delaware. See also, Palin, Bristol: She turned un-wed, teenage motherhood into a viable career path. Great work if you can get! Oh, but they're just like you! And they're just looking out for the little guy! And they are such good role models!

Some publication (maybe newsweek) reported recently Palin doesn't get paid half the time she gives speeches. I really wish I could find the freaking link where I read that. It was definitely a "reputable" pub which is why I was taken aback

100000 was never confirmed and neither was her total earnings last year. I doubt her gross wages were as high as reported. and remember, because she probably did bring in book deal in the millions, shes in the 50% tax range.

People like those at this audience, man... This is why I don't underestimate Palin - she IS a serious threat. They're so blinded by her folksiness and "pretty face" that she's able to dupe them right in front of their faces in the light of day. Her fans often like to say that others "fear" her. Yes, I do. I fear the consequences of what could happen when a phony entraps the naive. Truly scary stuff.

I dont really understand why people jump to conclusions and get all pissy over guest speakers organizations hire.It was already debunked by the organization that Bristol was paid 14k. It's never been proven that Sarah has received 100k even once. People in charge of fundraising aren't going to fuck themselves over by shelling out more than they feel they can bring in. This is why we mustn't pay attention to these rumormill sites. They are rarely correct and grossly exaggerated.

Until we get better media, we will not get a better world

  12. I also had heard several hundred dollars. $250,000, if true, might be worth it. Meanwhile, I am beginning to wonder if we are the ones who are crazy. I would like to know who the backers are that pay for Palin's fees having an obvious political agenda. I am detecting Palin's alleged "popularity" has been largely manipulated by promoters with a hidden agenda. There are many means to raise funds that are not political or to promote an extreme political ideology.

I would like to know more about this and how other past presidents and VP's have earned their fees or have had secret backers. Mny times Palin has not drawn enough people to cover her fees much less the marketing and rental of venues. I am not saying that she never draws a crowd. Her fees often exceed the revenue. Who is doing this?

How fun! A Pennsylvania Christian school is her 2012 presidential campaign launch.
Boy, she put you guys on the map, huh? Nice.

Will Piper, Willow and Trig _finally_ be enrolled in school there at Plumstead? Do they have a boarding program?
Good move, Sarah - your kids could use some discipline and a structured environment.

Oh. But wait. You've just schooled that student body in willful disobedience and non-compliance. They can expect some pointed discipline issues in the future, huh? "But Sarah said we should ignore rules and regulations..." "Laissez faire, Headmaster!"

Here's some interesting random thoughts on Temptation, one of Satan's tools:

    8. FIGHT TEMPTATION -- BETTER YET, FLEE IT.
Sometimes, we are pretty "easy pickings" for the devil. He dangles out some morsel of sin, and we gulp it down like hungry fish. It is hardly even work for him.
Just because God won't let us be tempted above what we're able to resist doesn't mean it will be easy to resist. Resisting temptation is hard work. It's a fight. But that is what we're involved in -- universal warfare against the devil, his angels, and sin. When temptation comes, fight it!

    Oh yes she is running!
"While Palin mostly spoke about the role of prayer in her life, she also responded when asked about a potential Presidential run in 2012.
“I wouldn’t do it just to shake it up, just to cause people in a competitive primary to have to debate and articulate what their solutions would be for the country,” said Palin. “I’d be in it to win it.”

The speech was billed as non-political. But Palin did touch on some Tea Party themes and rallied her conservative base.
School officials hope her appearance in the end will bring in several hundred dollars. Palin's appearance fee, thought to be $75,000, was reportedly covered by private donors.

Life is about personal choices and living in the moment. Don't bitch because your decisions made you less wealthy than someone else. Organizations have been vying for some Palin time since she became Governor. Now they want her for a different reason. Only they know what that reason is. Sarah took the advice of friends and pursued public office. Since she met Todd, it really is not that far-fetched, since his family is pretty political. The Palin's are comparable to the CLintons, if only because they are a team.

I laughed at first reading your post, but it is so not funny.
The best word to use to describe them is STUPID!

It's scary to see this in a country whose education system is getting so bad. Someone wrote that Palins theme for her 2012 run is "American Exceptionalism.". The problem though is that we aren't the most exceptional country anymore yet idiots like Palin and GOP dolts do nor get it.
In health care, education, manufacturing and research we are behind many other countries. I could go on and on about how stupid and out of touch Palin and the GOP morons are but you all know. It's like watching a bunch of dumb thugs on the Sopranos. They are thick headed and uneducated, living in the past.

Really it's scary. Our country has become a plutocracy, I.e. Run by the very rich and not the people. Yet Sarah and those like het say they are for the middle class but they aren't. It's all for the rich. Why oh why do these Americans not see her and others clearly??? They vote against their own interests!

Can anyone explain why this is happening? I keep coming back to stupidity and bei g brain washed by Fox.

A good estimate of how many are more qualified to be in the top elected position in the country, would run between 20 and 30 million people.

The donors naturally expect and get more than their money's worth in the form of kickbacks and largesse from government programs and legislative sleight of hand.

A "donor" knows a to the penny how much their own personal wealth will grow. Annd Palin's warchest for her POTUS campaign grows.

.."I am beginning to wonder if we are the ones who are crazy. This lady is making millions while we are just going to work and making our pittance."

Exactly. But she's not the first to make money off of the same demographic that elected George Bush, that same religious, small town, bigoted, stupid mindset. Think about it. Is it anything new? When I see the Palin knockoffs like O'Donnell, it just underlines the fact that Sarah was the next thing in a long line of right-wingers-in-heels who came before her, and they'll be plenty who come afterwards. O'Donnell was trying to be one of them but she got a little too crazy.

Remember Ann Coulter? All her snarky remarks, her attacks on unamerican places (she said bomb NYC?), and unamerican people. Sarah Palin is basically the small town, prettier version of Ann Coulter. But even Coulter's scrawny ugliness was marketed pretty heavily, as she was all over tv and radio, pushing her books. Sarah's impact was deeper because of her looks, and her religious small town appeal. Coulter might have been good for a liberal-bashing one night stand, but Palin became a face the GOP could wake up to the next morning and make a weekend out of.

Not for long. Sarah has a very close to expiring shelf life. If $carah doesn't run in 2012, it's pretty much all over. SHe'll be over 50 by the time 2016 roles around. And at that age, it will either take some pretty serious and very telltale procedures to keep up the sagging, aging facade. She's already shown that she won't be aging naturally or gracefully, and will go the fake route - there's nothing sadder than watching a desperate aging former beauty runner up wiggle her sagging ass, wink her wrinkled eye, or attempt to arch a drooping or Botoxed stiff eyebrow, only to have the crowd of formerly adoring male admirers blanch in disillusionment and disgust, turn their backs and trot off to the new hottie.

Watch me smack this troll down back to his bigoted, closeted, stupid, base camp.

No, the Palins are not like the Clintons, the Clintons have JOBS!

    Dumb-arse troll.

How many colleges did Sarah attend before she graduated? (My guess is Mrs. Clinton did not go to a dozen schools to get 1 degree). After graduation, desperate Sarah batted her cross-eyes on local tv trying to report on a basketball game. HRC? After she graduated, she went on to law school and wrote brilliant papers on children's rights and constitutional law.

Oh, and Mrs. Clinton also found time to get married, start a family, become a first lady, senator, and secretary of state. Sarah? Got knocked up before her shotgun wedding, and became mayor of Wasilla, meth capital of America. Then failed at a governorship.

Bill? Law Degree, Attorney General, President of the United States (2 terms). While Bill Clinton was in Haiti with George Bush trying to save a nation, Todd Palin was menacing old guys in airports and carrying his wife's purse.

So let me rephrase your first statement: The Palins are comparable to the Clintons....in that they both throw out garbage for pickup on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Other than that, there's nothing in common.

If there's any "jealousy" anywhere, it's clearly steaming from Sarah's head because she hates what she can't have, and what she'll never be.

when I was still in college (small private college, my freshman year tuition/room was 10800.

I worked my way through school, having to take time off, and graduated 6 years later. Tuition/room was 15000. When I came back after my sabbatical, I owned a condo so it was slightly harder to make the tuition. But after 6 years!!! tuition was raised that much, going against policy and principle. and the school gets a million dollar grant because the building is a historical landmark. At the time I complained but looking back, I met some pretty amazing guest speakers and sat through great forums etc. Some of the people were obscure names, but we got Dennis Lehane to come.

My point? There are reasons as to why institutions seek out specific guest speakers. Certain names mean something to them or to their budding career.

As long as public funding is not used, we cannot control it and shouldn't get pissed about it. Therein lies the problem of liberalism. One person cannot control the actions of another. This is why parenting is one of the hardest professions (yes) in the world.

Rosie Odonnell has commented recently what she goes through with her oldest son, the fights, the school problems. You may be the most attentive, most affectionate parent in the world, but if your kid doesn't want to study, they're not going to. Learning is something that has to be inspired and THAT is subjective.

8:55 - maybe you're right. It is all about choices. Most of us would never ever make the disgusting choices Sarah has made.

Most of us have a conscience. Most of us believe in being truthful. Most of us put our loved ones needs and desires before our own. Most of take care of our children - putting on hold any personal career choices that might undermine their welfare.

Most of have compassion and mind our own business. Most of us believe in living a humble and honest life and being tolerant of others. Most of us do not pretend to be something or someone we are not.

Most of us work hard for our money and many of us work harder than most for almost nothing.

To imply that Sarah somehow deserves her celebrity or money because of the choices she's made and that makes her better than the rest of us is nonsense. It is insulting. She is an opportunistic grifter, quite content to live off someone else's dime and telling them whatever they want to hear in order to get it.

Those are Sarah's choices: to lie, to inflate her worth, to change her story whenever it suits her, and to use other people until they either have nothing else to give or wake up to her deviousness.

All things considered, I'd chose to be earning less, but living a life as humbly and honestly as I can.

Anon. @ 8:49 - actually, Obama's stepfather was Indonesian. That is why he lived in Indonesia for a time as a child. Did you perhaps miss the reference to "stepfather" versus "father?"

Wow - 11:33, your comment "Therein lies the problem of liberalism. One person cannot control the actions of another." is pure unadulterated BS.

Liberals are for regulation that ensures the safety of the workplace, the safety of children's toys, ensuring workers get paid a fair decent and living wage and are not exposed to hazards that could cripple or poison them, decent working hours, safety nets for the disabled, the elderly, children, et cetera. Yeah, we like to tell the greedy, the cruel and the totally asshat human beings that they have to behave decently in their all-out race to accumulate wealth above all else.

We liberals want our buildings to be safe to live and work in, our water and air to be healthy, our cars made to last without endangering our lives, our food to meet basic safety standards, our children's clothing nonflammable, our roads, bridges and stoplights to be functional and safe.

Oh, yeah, we tell other people how to live in those ways - but liberals do not tell people how to or whether to worship a god or gods, we do not tell them how to make decisions regarding their reproductive rights, we do not monitor their sex lives or worry that someone's nipple might pop out on television. Liberals believe in tolerating differences as long as those differences do not impede the rights and differences of others.

We have our faults. Too often we do not stand up for ourselves. Too often we wait until it is almost too late to say "enough is enough."

Conservatives don't mind letting businesses poison the environment, send plants and jobs overseas, letting banks and credit card companies gouge people for loans, telling people that they must be Christian, attend church and who they can and cannot love. Conservatives love freedom as long as it means their freedom and no one else's.

I am proud to be a liberal though I prefer the more accurate term of progressive. If you were to be honest, conservative should be replaced with repressive.

Yep, progressive vs. repressive. That's the choice these days. Too darn bad we cannot come together for the good of the country, but as long as conservatives are telling me who to love, who to marry, how to worship, what to do if I get pregnant through rape or incest, that I should die or go broke if I can't afford health care - well, I am not willing to compromise with conservatives such as Palin or anyone else who wants to intrude into personal issues.

That's the difference. Liberals are trying to address quality of life and safety issues while too many conservatives want to dictate who we are and how we live the most intimate moments of our lives.

    What a joke.

People have stopped paying to hear Sarah speak long ago.

    Private donors my arse.

    SarahPAC paid her.

I hope she robs her FB followers blind!

    LMAO!

  59. In Dallas yesterday, Sarah, once again, brought up the wild ride, strange pregnancy, and bloggers not believing she birthed Trig. She's practically inviting the media to cover it and ask questions. Last night I found one newspaper that reported on that part of her speech (today it doesn't come up in a google search for Palin + Dallas). Where are the investigative reporters who will ask the right questions?

    http://www.star-telegram.com/2010/11/10/2622329/palin-assails-healthcare-law-praises.html

And will the media please stop pretending she's star power. Drawing only 800 people is embarrassing.

"A crowd of about 800 people filled about half the seats at a one-time vaudeville house to hear Palin and brief remarks from Perry, who was re-elected to a third full four-year term last week."

I watched the clip twice and the reporter definitely said "several hundred THOUSAND dollars".

I'm by no means a Palinbot; I just don't want us to lower ourselves to her level by getting wee-weed up over something that might not be true.

8:07 - People in charge of fundraising aren't going to fuck themselves over by shelling out more than they feel they can bring in.

Don't be so sure about that.

The cost of bringing Palin and her family to town? More than $100,000.

Handel’s campaign paid an Ohio jet charter service nearly $92,000 and her latest campaign finance report shows it was for the Palin event. Handel also paid an additional $13,000 in expenses to the InterContinental Hotel in Buckhead for the event.

Handel’s quarterly report shows her campaign committee to be $28,000 in debt, with another $55,000 in deferred expenses still outstanding.

A certain percentage of Americans will buy (into) anything.

(Media) whores make make bank too.

About that speech in Texas: Sarah and Rick were able to fill half of the venue, some 800 people. As more places discover how expensive Sarah really is, sometimes it would be cheaper for the Republican on the board who wanted Sarah to just donate the money directly and spare the kids the noise and the cookies. I'm thinking of the wake of destruction that she left in California after her speech.

You really can see the stupidity of her cult by looking at their troll comments here. Calling us haters because we point out a public persons outright lies? Calling us jealous because we disagree with someones politics and the way they take advantage of others?? Who is the hater.
Her fans are thick headed backward dolts. They can't defend her lies so they make silly juvenile comments like the haters are jealous. Pathetic!

Also dont despair about Sarahs popularity. Her numbers with Democrats and independents are dismal. If the GOP is stupid enough to nominate Sarah, they are dumber than I thought. She doesn't have the t knowledge OR temperament to be President. Even people who like her and many family members feel that way.

Thanks for straightening that guy out. He obviously gets his misinformation from Faux news, or his ass, or maybe Glenn Beck's ass, or the ass named Cavuto, or Schlosel, or any number of other asses on TV these day.

Also, anyone with a mult-million dollar income has multitudes of ways to evade and defer tax liability -- if you make 12 million dollars and you're paying %35 fed tax you REALLY need to find yourself a new accountant.

You are obviously pretty ignorant of world history and Indonesian history in particular. In his speech, President Obama was addressing Indonesia's struggle to gain indepedence and establish a democracy. He compared that effort to the experience of the American colonies. His reference to the family members of his step-father, his mother's second husband, were meant to honor their participation in that effort. It was a kind and gracious statement to make.
