Is this the Fox news fantasy of how Sarah Palin should deal with her critics?
(H/T to Phil Munger.)
Now as it turns out this is a bit of comedy from the Tonight Show, but Fox just aired it without attribution which gave the impression THEY had created it.
Now if I had seen it originally on the Tonight Show I probably would have laughed, it IS well done and kind of funny in that context, but having Fox play it followed by the laughter of one of their so-called "serious" journalists sort of gave it a different vibe.
Your thoughts?

A bit of humor. Can't imagine any other would-be-President could earn or survive this level of ridicule. -B
"Fair, balanced and unafraid"?
ReplyDeleteThat's an interesting comment. Makes me wonder if Sara Palin has been a bit "nasty" to the folks on FOX.
Not that would be a surprise.
many times she fires back on facebook or twitter in a.... (pause) "response"...
ReplyDeletei found this reporter's intonation in that sentence funny.
showing it on what is supposed to be a news program (but it's fox, so the bar is low) without attribution to tts (which i am no fan of, either, and i thought palin had a death grip on) just made it seem demeaning to wallace and (gulp) palin. it looked like a cat fight, or a female wrestling match, more fodder for gop male fantasies. it does show you the level of disrespect that her own network has for her, though. tack-y, but it shows her star is fading and sinking.
thanks for sharing, anon @8:16 - that was hilarious.
ReplyDeleteot, but i'm not sure where else to send a question like this: gryph, have you ever considered or looked into whether blogger would let commenters reply to other commenters. imho, i think it would foster and facilitate discussion and community, though the trolls might get a few more scraps tan usual. just wondering.
ReplyDeleteThe fact that they even aired it speaks volumes to me. Even at Fox some snickering is bubbling to the top.
ReplyDeleteYou're absolutely right, Gryph. I hadn't read what you wrote until after I watched the clip. So with the host not saying so I didn't know it was from the Tonight Show. On Faux - where Sarah blabs, has no accountability, and gets paid for it - it was disturbing to say the least. It was focused on hurting Nicole Wallace and laughing about it. On the Tonight Show, in that context, much funnier. It was focused on depicting Sarah as the Grizzled Mamma attacking a foe. Fascinating Faux didn't bother attributing the clip. Little doubt the omission was intentional.
ReplyDeleteNicole Wallace is a (disgruntled) former aide to the grifter? If only the traitor would get what she deserves! How fair and balanced.
ReplyDeleteFrom Wallace's Wiki entry: She previously served as communications chief during the presidency of George W. Bush and in his 2004 re-election campaign. In 2008, Wallace also served as a senior advisor for the McCain–Palin campaign.
Are they (Fox) laughing because Nicolle gets clobbered or because it shows Sarah as a vicious, clawing beotch and proves Nicolle's point?
ReplyDeleteVery funny anon @ 8:16! You should start your own blog and get things rolling again.
ReplyDeleteWell lookie here........how very interesting!
ReplyDeleteSarah's not liked by Rand Paul supporters and he's basically the king of the tea party.
It's an interesting article noting how on some policy issues the tea party would actually side with the Dems. Cool!
http://www.tnr.com/blog/foreign-policy/79647/tea-party-wrecking-republican-foreign-policy?page=0,1
"At the center of this battle, of course, is Sarah Palin. She has allied herself firmly with the Republican hawks, opposing any cuts in defense spending and generally calling for a more activist and interventionist America throughout the world. She is on record in support of an attack on Iran. To much of the press and the punditocracy, she is the darling of the Tea Partiers, but that’s not how it looks to many inside the movement, and if you want to hear the worst of the vituperation aimed her way, you should look not in the direction of liberals and Democrats, but at the Ron Paul wing of the Tea Party movement. Accused of hijacking the movement for the neoconservatives, she is called “a wolf in sheep’s clothing,” “simplistic,” “senseless and deranged,” “close-minded,” “arrogant,” “a neocon Stepford wife.”
Just deceitful and amateurish to let another's work run without credit. But when you are news and you are using a comedy clip from another network, it is beyond the pale. Framing the video is Broadcast 101.
ReplyDeleteAnd that fair, balanced and unafraid was marketing that Fox added after it came under heavy criticism for Rush Limbaugh. It is serious marketing of a political machine masquerading as a network.
Notice that Faux news stars are not in great demand elsewhere.
For the overall effect of News Corpse on a nation ask the next Aussie you meet who killed Kennedy. Even the most erudite are conspiracy theorists? That is the News Corp. imprint on the Great Down Under!
Back when Palin first got her gig on Fox someone commented that Fox maybe signing her on to get the ratings while she is popular but will just as quickly go for the ratings when she falls...that they knew it was coming and planned on it making big bucks at both ends...perhaps that is what is beginning to happen now
ReplyDeleteIn the upper left hand corner, for a second or two, "The Tonight Show" is on the screen. (I had to watch it a second time before I caught it.) But certainly Faux should have verbally noted it also.
ReplyDeleteBTW, anyone who hasn't checked out the link posted by Anonymous at 8:16 - it's HYSTERICAL! (Thanks 8:16 Anon)
I think it is obvious that FOX is turning on Sarah Palin.
ReplyDeleteWhat else could that mean?
The "unafraid" word at the end means they are not going to be afraid of her no matter how often she stomps her feet and raises a fit. I bet she is a total prima donna diva to work with!! You NEVER hear people who work with her say things like "I love Sarah, she is such a nice person." NEVER! The only people who say that are the palinbots.....
Sarah Palin has been Foxed from behind, or, given her record of turning on those who helped her, she has herself been Palinized. Unless we see a groveling apology from Fox for running this, it amounts to a deliberate message that Fox News no longer takes her seriously and will milk her public image for laughs. It's not a subtle message that can go over her head. Unless Palin is willing to play the clown on Fox and swallow her pride, which I imagine would be like eating a week-old beached whale, her appearances on Fox are over.
ReplyDeleteYes, real classy. And Fox thinks that it is funny. I don't know how to take that. Fighting as a means of settling differences is so trashy. It makes one wonder what Fox is thinking in showing that attack by their golden girl. Then the remark about being unafraid is puzzling. I'm completely stumped by that. Are they saying that they are unafraid of beating up people who disagree with them?
ReplyDeleteI truly can't wait till the cameramen/women and producers at FUX news drop da bomb on Scarah, it will happen and I just can't wait. Their stories will leak , just like Wikileaks. Can you even imagine what a bitch she is behind the scenes if she is such a bitch in front of the camera?
ReplyDeletethis is very sad.......look who is creating death panels before Obama care even goes into affect. 98 people on the waiting list kicked off are left to die if they cannot afford or have insurance for a transplant.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.nytimes.com/2010/12/04/opinion/04collins.html?src=me&ref=general
"But Francisco, who has hepatitis C, had lost his health insurance when he had to stop working and had gotten coverage under the state Medicaid program. And Gov. Jan Brewer had signed a law eliminating Medicaid coverage of certain kinds of transplants as a cost-cutting measure. Flor said the next words she got from the doctor were: “You need to bring $200,000 as a deposit for the hospital.”
Francisco was summarily discharged. The Arizona state government, which is totally controlled by Republicans, got between him and his doctor.
“The state only has so much money and we can only provide so many optional kinds of care. Those were one of the options that we had taken liberty to discard,” said Governor Brewer."
So we know Fox lies, now it plagiarizes. Stay classy, Fox - particularly when you get dragged into court for not attributing other people's work, keep on smiling your little smirky smiles. I think Fox will eventually be taken down or have to change, but in the meantime, we have to put up with their stupidity and poop.

as an American/Ozziegirl myself all I can say is... huh? I have no clue what you're talking about but I can assure you I know lots and lots and lots of Australians - none of whom are Rupert Murdoch fans nor Kennedy conspiracy theorists.
After all she called Fox part of the lamestream media...turn about is fair play. She has bitten off more that she knows (which isn't much). I for one am ready to see more of this type of material on Palin and zero of her book tours etc. The media needs to stop showing up at her events PERIOD. Just say'n
ReplyDeleteShe labled Fox as part of the lamestream media so turn about is fair play. She has bitten off more that she knows (which isn't much). I for one would like to see more of this type of media coverage and ZERO amount of book tours etc. It is because of the media coverage that she is still popular. It's got to stop.
ReplyDeleteCan the fact that they aired this (albeit sourceless) clip mean they're getting fed up with the Quitter Queen?
ReplyDeleteWouldn't it be ironic if the place that finally takes her down is the same place that she always ran to to spew her venom?
O/T but...
ReplyDeleteCheck out the statement from Greta and the responses re: Kathleen Townsend Kennedy's editorial. Greta is minding her tongue and several of the respondents are clearly anti-Palin.
Not what I would expect from Greta and her minions!
Isn't it a copyright violation for FauxNews to not attribute it to NBC? Did I miss it?
ReplyDeleteNever mind. I did see the NBC credit VERY briefly flash across the top.
ReplyDeleteI wonder how the FauxNews talking baboons would react to a similar depiction of one of their own?
@8:16AM - that was LOL funny!
ReplyDeletejessica @12:55 pm, when/where did sarah call fox lamestream? just curious...
ReplyDeleteI don't know what Leno's point was anyway.
ReplyDeleteI'd rather have seen Nicolle Wallace punch Palin in the face, but that's just my preference. I guess Ms. Wallace was actually verbally punching Palin in the face with her takedown, so I guess I'll just have to be satisfied with that. A cage match with those two, complete with dental veneers flying would be too much to ask for, right?
ReplyDelete@9:40 AM - Very good read. I've always laughed at the bots when they squawk about liberals, progressives or moderates being afraid of palin. However, it's the tea baggers and rethugs that are afraid because she's dividing their parties.
ReplyDeleteShe and her ilk think they have the L/P/M's on the run when in fact she's looking in the wrong direction.
Anon@10:40 AM. Her co workers do not have to work with her. Remember, Faux Noise built a studio for her in her home. They knew then she could not work with anyone, especially women. Faux also likes the tax break offered by Ak. The one she put in place shortly before she walked out on the citizens of Ak. Now, not only Faux can benefit, she, and her entire family benefit at your expense.
ReplyDeleteWhat I find more disturbing is that it portrays MSNBC in such a negative way...I can hear the wingers saying "look Mom that's what happens on those librul cable shows so I'm glad we're watchin' the REAL news channel".
ReplyDeleteGirl fight! Girl fight! Are those bananas in your pockets, Jay and Bret?
ReplyDeleteGrainneKathleen, it was about a month ago something Fox reported on her and out of the mouth of babes came her comment calling the report from lamestream media. I cannot recall the story as it was not what caught my interest, but her comment did and my thought at the time was: it's not wise to bite the hand that feeds you.
ReplyDelete@jessica, thanks for your response and good catch! i don't have tv, so if it doesn't show up on the blogs and news i read, i miss it. sarah will never learn, i think.
ReplyDeleteThe context does matter.
ReplyDeleteFox now owns it.
They have claimed, as their own, a video that ostensibly shows one of their employees, a former elected official, violently attacking a commentator, from behind.
And they are presenting it as straight factual news.
Anon 8:59
ReplyDelete"From Wallace's Wiki entry: She previously served as communications chief during the presidency of George W. Bush "
Didn't it take Saray 5 colleges to get a communications degree and all she could do local sports caster?
Wallace made it to the WH in her professional capacity. Sarah basically got run our of the Governor's mansion in Juneau.
Are we so sure that isn't a dramatization of a Palin wet dream?
Sarah in the last few weeks has bad mouthed Fox as part of the lamestream media and insluted the Bush family grand dame, Kennedy, Reagan and each time fans and employees of them as spoken out and pointed out that Palin is basilly full.
ReplyDeleteWhen you start insulding the reall big boys who will cover your back, Sarah.
Sarah lacks foresight, and is increasingly lacking in self control.
Is there a falme out on the horizon?
It shows Fox doesn't get it. The bit is making fun of a personality defect of one of their commentators. Palin has anger problems, gets physically violent, and is bipolar or has borderline personality disorder. She's mentally unbalanced, but no one will address it. As a result, other networks use her behavior for comedy skits.
ReplyDeleteBalanced. . .and unafraid?
ReplyDeleteIs that why they ran a joke sketch of the Barracuda cold-cocking Nicole? : )
