Well outside the top 25, Sarah Palin’s Alaska averaged 2.49 million viewers, down from the previous week’s 2.56 million.
I would love to see a breakdown of the demographics of viewers for this program.
My instincts tell me that a large number of them are probably people who simply cannot stand Sarah Palin and are watching her reality show/political advertisement in order to prove to themselves that she is a fraud and a ridiculous person.
Then there are the middle aged conservative males who are watching it with their hand in their pants, the teabaggers who believe she is the second coming of Jesus, a handful of nature buffs who are waiting for Sister Sarah to get the hell out of the way so they can see the beautiful scenery, and of course the fans of snuff films who are waiting to see what the Grizzled Mama will kill THIS week.
Next week is the two hour finale. Typically finale's get a larger audience share than other episodes, but at 120 minutes I am not sure how many viewers will be able to make it to the end.
However one thing is clear, despite what her ego initially told her Palin did NOT manage to attract more viewers by allowing America to see more of her as she undoubtedly believed would be the case. As many predicted, the MORE people saw of her, the less they found her interesting or engaging enough to waste an hour of their Sunday watching on their televisions.
I mean let's face facts, only about half as many people thought her program was as interesting to watch as the Pawn Stars.
THAT is what is kicking Sarah Palin's show's ass. And they say America does not have good taste.
Now if Sarah Palin opened a pawn shop in Wasilla, she might actually have a shot.

It is also important to remember that all the other shows that would typically compete with her show have been in reruns for the last two weeks and will also be in reruns next week during the finale. I think the scheduling is purposeful. Her numbers would be cut in half if the other shows weren't in rerun status.

If the purpose of the show was to improve Sarah's image, then it's had the opposite effect, because her unfavorable rating is at an all time high. As for the show's demographic, it's already been reported the the median age is 57. That's not what advertisers like to hear, because old people don't buy stuff. It's the 18-49 year old group that they're after. Should be interesting to see if there's a second season.

Also? All those medical shows like the ER one where people have a branch that has impaled them through and through yet missed their heart, or car crash victims, or snakebites, plus, of course, Dr G Medical Examiner.
These shows are relaxing to me.
OTOH, "Sarah Palin's Alaska", even clips shown here, do nothing but make my blood pressure rise and cause me to start saying such things as WTF, and "You LIE!" over and over again.
Oh, and, to make up for my sideshow TV show viewing, I do tend to read actual books with actual philosophy and facts and interesting biographical, historical, and spiritual information.
I have even read C.S. Lewis, and not the Narnia stuff.
Favorite author? Albert Camus. A close second: Fyodor Dostoevsky. Oh, and Susan Howatch, although that's fiction, but still highly recommended (the Starbridge series is superb).
So, I guess I'm saying that even intellectuals can watch "Pawn Stars" for enjoyment.

not everyone who watches is old. my son's girlfriend is in her late 20's and a republican (she grew up in texas and now lives in seattle). she watches the show, but has now admitted that she would never vote for her. my son is 30 and a liberal democrat and he says the show is "interesting." apparently they have been watching it together and he points out sarah's inconsistencies and faults to the gf. when i said i "hate" sarah, he felt that was too strong a word and he also thinks i have OCD for reading about her every day (i think he may be right.) he does not see how i can "hate" someone who is such a gift to the democratic party. i think i'm going to start saying i "detest" or "loathe" sarah. people really react strongly to the word "hate." my own belief is that if you do hate then it's ok to say it. other people think you should never say you "hate" someone apparently.

ReplyDeleteUnfortunately Kate+ will never attempt to go camping again since she had such a poor experience set for her. There is "roughing it" and then there is family type camping which is highly enjoyable, no phones, tv, - hiking trails, fishing, perhaps swimming, firepit, picnic tables....

There's no doubt that some portion of the tens of thousands of e-mails sent, received, or copied by Palin and her husband are public records subject to disclosure under state law. Linda Perez, administrative director for the governor's office, has told the requesters that officials have identified 26,553 printed pages of e-mails responsive to the requests.
So far, about 7,400 of those pages have been reviewed by state lawyers for advice on non-releasable content, she said. She didn't say how many pages passed the legal test in whole or in part.
But in any event, she said, they will have to be reviewed again by someone in the governor's office. And that second review won't begin until the lawyers are finished, she said. Under the work plan Perez announced Monday, the lawyers would finish by March 31 and the second review would take another 60 days.
Think of it as a 26,553-page book being passed around the capitol and the Department of Law in Anchorage that would be roughly equivalent -- in volume, anyway -- to reading "War and Peace" 19 times.

The Palin mini mob had no cause to "defend " their mother with their foul language and personal insults. The kid's comment was about the SHOW.
