The whole show wad incredible!! And he would not back down from the sole Republican. I really don't know what it will take for Republican journalists and leaders to stand up to the hate mongers and say:STOP!! They want to say the left is the same and I say BULLSHIT! Maybe in the 60s but that was over 50 years ago.
Maybe it will take a tea bagger threatening the GOP because they intelligently vote yes on raising the debt ceiling. Most of the ones running for 2012 are afraid to stand up to tea baggers. Note the article about weakling Tim kiss ass Pawlenty today.

  4. Bill Maher is the best..Thanks for posting.

I wish you would post something about Sarah trying to look all presidential in her "I'm the victim speech", where the American flag on the wrong side. It could be a lot of fun and you know her spies would also see it....as they come to your blog to find out the truth...just like we do.

People don't realize that unless a President commits mass murder, he will be reelected. This president is no exception

  6. great stuff. i have no tv service, but i do wish i could watch bill maher. too bad you can't access him from the internet like the daily show.
i LOVED his reminder of just who our founding fathers really were. this co-opting and rewriting of our founders' history by the tea party is more than disturbing. and the branding of anyone with an education as an elite (as if that is a pejorative) is maddening. i wish ore people would give such smackdowns.

It is really a sad state of affairs when the truth has to come from comedians instead of journalists.

You know Anon 12:53, this is the problem. In the sixties there were fringe groups like the Weather Underground, but what politicians were supportive of them or afraid to stand up against them? And what journalists were? After all, it was not a huge percentage of the population that was spewing violent, hateful rhetoric and/or real threats. Now we have--what--a third of the population who have no problem with this kind of talk? And a news media and Republican politicians who cannot or will not expose the ugly truth about Tea Party protests and Republican "policies."

Omygod the 60's were 50 years ago??? Way to make me feel old!
If the moderate Republicans can not find their spines and tell the teabaggers to stuff it, I'm afraid the Republican party will be all done for. They just don't get it. Yes, I know they picked up seats this past year, but I don't think that's going to last.

    Anon at 12:53 says

" Note the article about weakling Tim kiss ass Pawlenty today."

But Pawlenty is Tim 'family values' Pawlenty !

    Just look at this
Pawlenty defends Parole Board vote on 2008 pardon Governor says no one had an inkling in 2008 that Jeremy Giefer might be sexually assaulting another girl.

    and this
Pawlenty on sex criminal daycare pardon: "I am very troubled"

The pardon was necessary so that a daycare center could be opened in the house of the pardoned and currently accused offender.

His support of Sarah Palin proves he can continue to make stupid mistakes.

  14. Thanks for that.

    I love Bill Maher.

I don't agree with him 100% of the time (who does?) but I don't let that stop me from enjoying his wit and wisdom.

How sad that we have to rely on social comedians (Maher, Stewart, Colbert) to speak truth to power and provide us with the news and information that the news media should be providing to us.

I watched the show and am so glad he has returned. Love his humor - he can be so 'right on' with his commentary.

Loved the way he stood up to the comments made by the Republican on the panel too. (with proof sources shown as to how he responded!)

I watched C-Span last night/into the a.m. and I will say this, phone calls taken by various moderators most assuredly showed the anger that is out there.

Callers were screaming on the phone - that called in on the Republican line.

There is a difference in the way Teabaggers/Republicans verbally show their anger when compared to the Dems I listened to. It was pretty ugly!

So since the title of this post has to do with the new year I have a question. When you've finished discussing Sarah for good, are you going to turn your attention on the truth behind Obama's rise to power?

It's a similar story to the Palin rise. Having EVERYTHING to do with media retardedness and a politician relying on the stupidity of the people. Barack and Sarah has masters at these notions. They each know what they can get away with and play with that until they win. The two could be twins. Came from corruption, lives by corruption, will wither in solitude

I don't like Bill Maher -- too raunchy for me. Too self-congratulatory -- that panel of on-lookers complimenting him on his jokes. Not appealing.

Maybe this time we are in calls for raunchyess. I'm not able to appreciate it. He makes good points, though.

@1:52 - total false equivalency. I'm over the false equivalence memes from Palin fans; they are so intellectually tiresome.

ApplauseGate: The Right Wing Jumps the Sanity Shark in Desperate Bid to Smear Obama

Just a head’s up my friends. Everywhere you go, little brainwashed minions of the TeaPublican Party will be foaming mad about Obama demanding applause during the Arizona memorial speech. If you don’t watch Fox News or read certain right wing blogs, you may be hard pressed to respond or even get the relevance when shown the graphic of Obama speaking at the Arizona memorial services for the slain with the word “applause” under it on the Jumbotron.

The idea that Palin gets unfairly attacked comes straight from the imaginations of Sarah Palin and her defenders, every moment of criticism that Palin has faced, by those few outlets that are actually willing to hold her accountable, has come as a result of her own statements or actions, but this something that those who are touting Sarah Palin as the Republican great white hope for 2012 won’t acknowledge. From a business point of view, the hypocrisy that Fox News is demonstrating is not surprising in the least.

Although they also have Mike Huckabee on the payroll, they are putting their 2012 eggs in Sarah Palin’s basket. By framing the attempts to hold Sarah Palin accountable for her own rhetoric and behavior as character assassination, News Corp is simply trying to protect their investment. The placement of a higher priority on their political investment over facts is more proof that the primary goals of Fox News are not those of a news organization, but a political operation.

Today was the first step in their campaign to revive Sarah Palin’s sagging political fortunes. Tomorrow the heavily rehearsed interview with Sean Hannity will air followed by a heavy repetition of the talking points. The push back to recover their investment has begun, and we are about to see if the powerful News Corp propaganda machine can save Sarah Palin from her penchant for political self-destruction.

...Maher concluded, “Ben Franklin studied scientific phenomenon like lightning and the Aurora Borealis, and were he alive today, he could probably explain to Bill O’Reilly why the tides go in and out. James Madison was fluent in Greek and Latin and could translate Virgil and Cicero. John Boehner can’t translate Freed Zakaria, and Thomas Jefferson was an astronomer and a physicist who founded the University of Virginia, played the violin, and spoke six languages, or as Palin would say, all of them.”

Bill Maher really knocked this one out of the park. The main difference between the Founding Fathers and today’s far right, which the Tea Party ignores, is that the Founders were intellectuals, while the far right has spent decades on American anti-intellectualism jihad. They doubt and distrust science because it conflicts with their religion. They have developed and ability to reject formerly agreed upon facts for new ones that support their political and/or religious ideology.

These people are the exact opposite of the Founding Fathers, yet they have managed to coopt their image and warp their words and legacies to further their corporatist agenda by covering it in a disguise of Revolutionary War era patriotism. Someday we will find out that some expensive Republican consultants and PR firms after doing exhaustive research determined that the figures most likely to sell their latest incarnation to the far right Republican base were the Founding Fathers.

    Haha.

I've said it before, she just shows us how clueless she is (and Teabaggers, also, too) when she pulls up our great forefathers, esp. ol' Tom Paine.

    But, to clarify:
"Paine, an adherent of the French Revolution, was about as far left as you could get in the late 18th century. Though he believed in God, he did not believe in divine revelation and attacked revealed religion in Age of Reason (1794), and advocated in Agrarian Justice (1797) the creation of a national fund that would provide lump-sum payments to every adult and pensions for the elderly."

Thanks for the links to the stories on Pawlenty.

As I read, I couldn't stop shaking me head in disbelief to read the quotes of Pawlenty:

Pawlenty urged prosecutors to consider charging Giefer with perjury for possibly lying about being law-abiding when he applied for the pardon.

"Had this new information been available to the Board at the time of the pardon request, the pardon should not and would not have been granted," Pawlenty said in a statement.

Just gotta say, that if he had been truthful, the scum would have been in jail and therefore no request would have been submitted.

Pawlenty, a member of the stunned and stupid club. Stunned for not thinking before he speaks and stupid for saying it anyways.

Remember too about Pawlenty - it was him that helped drag on the Franken-Coleman election. Pawlenty is a whimp, afraid of his own shadow.

He essentially just compared the founders to the "elite" leaders of today, which is highly insulting to the great men who founded this country. There is not one current or past leader in the last 20 years who deserves to be on the same level as our forefathers. Yes even back in the day they had their problems, but with all the underground lying, cheating, ass fucking shit that goes down, Big George and his counterparts are probably sobbing in their graves.

Does anyone else think that Tim Pawlenty is turning into Teabagger Tim lately, trying to fill the vacuum left by Palin's fading political career. Everything he's said of late is calculated to appeal to her minions. OMG, I think he's trying to steal all her friends!

Once every week, I check palingates for interesting information and sometimes read the posts. The current story from a German economist seems very peculiar. To me, it seems that it is trying to keep the beast alive in order to profit from her. Other Palin blogs are delighted that Palin is soon to be inconsequential and damaged goods. I get the distinct impression that Palingates doesn't really want her out of the picture??????

    ReplyDelete
  47. Anonymous8:47 PM

@7:56, I know what you mean. I can't tell if they are just very rigid about the who/what/when of the end of Sarah's political career, or if they honestly believe that most rumors are going to turn out to be false alarms, or not enough to stop her. I think they are pessimistic in outlook, in general, but of course none of us are naive enough to think all of our problems begin and end with Sarah. They will have plenty to write about the US, should she exit the scene, if they want to continue.

I think they are very, very invested in the Trig story, and perhaps rightly so, but it doesn't mean that other information can't come out about Sarah, equally or perhaps more damaging. If I am not mistaken, they inherited a lot of that fake pregnancy research and stuff from Audrey's blog, I think one of them wrote for her. I know the moderators were fairly insistent that the Bristol pregnancy story couldn't be true; they kept saying it was what the Palin camp wanted us to believe (couldn't figure out what purpose that would serve). They weren't going on any special information from what I could tell.

Some of it is a cultural divide, I suspect. They are operating from outside the US, they have their own national backgrounds and histories, and thus motivations for doing this. They seem quite noble in their aims, but you never know.

I bet they struggle with the possibility of not having Sarah as their primary topic. They do raise money on a regular basis, so perhaps they fear that the blog will peter out and also the funds (which must be relatively meager)? I can't imagine it's a sole source of income for anybody.

I do think the posters there will go through some serious Sarah withdrawal if they don't have her as the object of their considerable frustration. They do discuss other things sometimes, but still.
