Who would be ignorant enough to give a speech in front of a roomful of hunters and gun enthusiasts in the same month that their name was linked by the media to a mass murder? Who else?

Next week Sarah Palin will step in front of the podium provided by the Safari Club International, undoubtedly dressed head to toe in a Vera Wang camouflage cocktail dress, to discuss her great love of hunting, how President Obama is trying to take our guns away, and of course the joys of Facebooking.

Somehow I doubt that Palin will speak about the tragic shooting in Tucson, RAM's ridiculous lies about crosshairs actually being surveyor symbols, or how we need to tone down the violent rhetoric in politics.

However we CAN count on her to bring up Ronald Reagan ad nauseum, slam the "Lamestream" media, and to polish up her image as a tough chick from Alaska who can shoot wild game for dinner off of of her backporch with one hand, while simultaneously giving an interview to Bill O'Reilly for the Fox News network, and writing a speech on energy with the other hand. And this might just be the kind of crowd dimwitted enough to believe her!

To be honest it really does not matter WHAT Palin says to this crowd. Palin is the only female on the ticket, and clearly her job is to inspire boners, not intellectual debate.

Palin will share the stage with such County Fair luminaries as Larry the Cable Guy, the Marshall Tucker Band, Micheal Reagan (The adopted one), and Matt Lewis: Elvis Impersonator Extraordinaire, just to class the place up a little bit.

Where else could you possibly find such an incredible array of talent?  You know besides any Flea Market, bingo hall, or grand opening of a new Piggly Wiggly that is?

I wish I could say I am stunned that Sarah Palin would stand in front of a crowd of people and advocate gun use and hunting so soon after a massacre that left six people dead and over a dozen wounded in Arizona, but I am not.  Sarah Palin is too self absorbed and insensitive to let a little thing like the death of innocents stand in the way of her ability to make money.

I also wish that the people who attend this function would confront Palin on just what she was thinking when she placed those crosshair images over Gabby Giffords district, among others, and whether or not she understands that her careless use of violent imagery and hateful rhetoric have helped to create an environment where this same thing might very well happen again?  And that the next time it might be linked directly to her?

But they won't.  Which of course is exactly why Palin feels comfortable standing in front of them and vomiting forth her patented word salad.

Well perhaps it will not be a total loss, and one of the REAL hunters at the event can teach Sister Sarah how to actually use a rifle to kill an animal without requiring six shots and her father nearby to work the bolt for her.

I am still at a loss to understand how anybody could watch THAT clip and still think that the Grizzled Mama is an appropriate person to speak to a room full of actual hunters.

I don't know Gryphen, they may boo and hiss her, lol. I read a lot of hunter blogs dissing her as a "real" hunter and calling bull on her lying about it. She may be the joke of the whole event.

Should be interesting, as these are real hunters, seriously, not just gun enthusiasts.

They know disrespect for the sport when they see it.

Sweat it out Sarah, but dress sexy so they disrespect you even more. You are headed down a slippery slope. You deserve to fall on your ass.

When I moved from Ca. to the South, animal-lover that I am, I was shocked by hunting. Since, have learned it is literally for many putting food on the table, not for fun. A clean shot is preferable to a cattle slaughterhouse or the unspeakable conditions for our grocery chicken purchases. My amazement is that Palin would have the nerve to address hunters as is she is one, having been exposed as a total phony by other hunters. She just stumbles on, becoming a joke in all departments.

Great post, Gryphen. These types of circus events show just how low she is willing to go in order to rake in money and keep her own personal circus afloat. I am encouraged by her decision to keep this on the calendar. One more obvious example of her complete lack of presidential qualifications, and the majority of Americans recognize it for what it is: just blind money grubbing.

She's REALLY appearing on the same stage as Larry the cable guy? Oh, how the mighty have fallen.

I cannot believe that a group of hunters would still believe all that phony-baloney about $P being the Great White Huntress after her pathetic demonstration on SPA. These people obviously have too much money and too few brain cells.

If I didn't know better I'd say whoever was calling the shots at Palin Inc. was trying to torpedo her political career. Speaking at this event is a bone-headed move if I ever saw one.

What does giving a speech have to do with anything? It's not the gun that kills, it's the person. This has to be remembered. Under your logic, spoons make people fat, pencils misspell words, and cars drive drunk. If all guns evaporated tomorrow, people would still die. Anger would still be prevalent.

"As a hunter, Sarah Palin is a greater menace in the field than Dick Cheney. And I have a feeling that real hunters among my readership will back me up on that.

Fact is, Sarah Palin gives hunting a bad name, and it has nothing to do with the whole cruelty to animals argument, which I'll leave for someone else to hash out. It's based entirely on the fact that she's so clueless and incompetent behind a gun that she ought to trade her rifle in on a tactical nuke, which doesn't require the pinpoint accuracy a hunter needs to make meat without causing unnecessary suffering among the game population."

Striving to remain stupid and collecting welfare as their "career," as so many are led to think is NORMAL, is indeed a shameful direction to allow your life to take.

I'm sure many realized the barb of this remark was aimed at our Screechmistress Sarah, whose speeches and tweets always seem to stress how science and mumbo jumbo by educated people is to be shunned.

.....Later, after a so-so time at the slots, Sarah made her way back to the Merle Haggard Suite at the Reno Circus-Circus. The elevator doors were just closing when she hear a voice "Whoa!," and a hairy, large arm reached in. "Mind if I ride along, miss?"
She tried to stifle her gasp, peeing herself just a bit. "Why Larry... of course."

The next morning she propped herself up on one elbow while Larry finished a warm Budweiser he'd left on the coffee table. "You gonna call me?" she cooed.

Aaron Sorkin was speaking about the right wing knee-jerk prejudice against the well-educated, in general: in particular, Barack Obama, or anyone else with political power who happens to be highly intelligent or intellectual. This all started with the GW Bush era, it's how they got votes from the everyman.

Sorkin was the creator of the show West Wing, and is a brilliant writer.

The anti-elitist (racist) argument is what he was referring to for the most part, whether that implies a comment on Sarah Palin or not. He was encouraging his daughter not to be ashamed that she is smart, and yes, a smart female. I have never heard Sarah take swipes at smart women, actually.

In fact, I want her to live out a VERY long and healthy life in which she is daily reminded of her own inadequacies, loneliness, and stupidity. I want her to wallow in the abject failure that is/was her presidential aspirations. I want her to daily brood upon the nothingness that is her existence. I can't thank you enough for staying with this. I appreciate your direct summary and thought provoking post. I don't hunt but I respect decent hunters that honor the tradition and stay away from the Cheney style of trophy hunting. Has Ted Nugent said anymore since his people had him go on CNN? Last I heard he still loved Sarah but he could not say why he wouldn't support her run for office. If it is the TLC hunting scenes with Chuck Heath he must do right for hunting and hunters and speak up. As it is all hunters are getting smeared with a broad brush and they make the future hunters and hunting look like the crazies. The Nuge made big money as a lunatic. He has a mind and he could clear up a few things. As a lunatic, rambling pervert he won't do that. Both Palin and Beck have asked for a line in the sand. That means Ted Nugent and others need to be precise about what they support and what they don't support. Ted Nugent and others need to show they aren't for senseless violence and the misuse of hunting metaphors and the like. People like Nugent are supporting violent images and disparaging the name of good hunters by the perception that they are all lumped together.

We can no longer ignore the signs of mental illness. The day will come when we must look at how things progressed and came to this place. Who is the real Sarah Palin? I would like for the media and journalists to get serious about answering that one question and eventually those that follow.

What is the atmosphere that grew the minds that create the violent visual advertising that is so popular and spreading like wild fire?
Do we want to continue to school and teach our children in a way that is negative? Were Chuck Heath and his friends only about putting food on the table? What else did they teach little Sarah?

Becky Mansour is a big city girl and her gift of creating visual effects fits right in with Sarah Palin. How did Becky Mansour come to the same place from an opposite beginning?
What keeps them so tightly bonded together? Hunting? Selling a brand? Politics? There pattern is worth exploring along with consequences of their relationships.

  64. Sarah Palin explained why she had to take 6 shots. Her Dad Chuck fell with the gun and threw off the scope. It may be true but who doesn't check their gun after that? You don't fire 6 shots before realizing something is wrong. She could have wounded the animal. Then he would have suffered if he ran off. If you hunt you go for a clean shot. I don't hunt but my ex did.

The far-right(including Faux News) are bragging about some Media Curves poll that says a majority believes that $arah Palin is more "believable" and "sincere" after she released her "Don't Blame Me" video last week. They think this is proof that she isn't finished.

The far-right has been ignoring the second question that was asked in the Media Curves poll. The second question asked voters if they would support $arah Palin for president in 2012. 56% of republicans said "Yes," (of, course) while 88% of democrats said "No," (of, course). But a whopping 71% of independent voters said "No," too. The Palin-bots are grasping at straws. Just because someone may think you are "sincere" doesn't mean they want you to be president. That's why the far-right has been leaving out that part of the poll. The truth, it burns:

    http://mediacurves.com/Politics/SarahPalinonTucson/Index.cfm

Palin only spent about one minute talking about the victims of the shootings in her video. The rest of the video was all about her. I do "believe" $arah Palin is "sincere" in believing that she is the real victim.

The Right is trying their best to protect Palin by releasing all these stupid, meaningless polls. A new CNN poll came out today, that says the public is "split" on whether Palin's cross-hair map is to blame for the shootings. 48% said she is to blame, 49% said she isn't to blame. The poll has a 3% margin of error, which means the poll results could actually be the other way around. Either way, if the public is split, that is bad.

$arah Palin has not been vindicated. I also disagree with any right-wing asshole, saying that Barack Obama should speak out, and tell people to "Leave $arah Palin alooooone!" When are $arah Palin, Rush limbaugh, and Glenn Beck going to tell the far-right to leave Barack Obama alone? Never.

I don't feel sorry for Palin. She can dish it, but she can't take it.

Guns do not pick themselves up, load themsleves with bullets, point themselves at people, and fire by themselves. Nice try. If this Jared Laughner guy was angry with Gabrielle Giffords, he could have always sent her a sternly worded letter.

These trips are guided, expensive, and generally consist of someone else doing the heavy lifting, whilst the wealthy "hunter" merely pulls the trigger.

I bet this group would be just fine having Chuck Heath reload their rifles, because that's the way these people roll.

Sure, they are into preservation of wildlife; of course they are, so there's more for them to slaughter and more heads for the wall!

Not sure what part of "honoring the hunt" pertains to shooting a Leopard that one is not going to eat...there doesn't seem to be much honor in murdering a rare big cat.

"What does giving a speech have to do with anything?"

Making a speech before a group of hunters at this particular time shows a lack of sensitivity and class - especially after being so closely tied in with the Tucson tragedy. Bad decision on her part but then bad decisions are her pattern.

"It's not the gun that kills, it's the person."

Not necessarily. Had it been a single shot weapon or say a cross-bow or a six-shooter, couldn't have done as much damage.

"Under your logic, spoons make people fat, pencils misspell words, and cars drive drunk".

I've poured over hundreds and hundreds of records of people back in the old-days and never once saw that anybody was charged with "Riding (a horse) while drunk". The two guys arrested last week while drunk on horses may be a first. If somebody was drunk on a horse or while driving a wagon or buggy they couldn't cause the damage that driving a car while drunk does. Granted we can't get rid of cars, the fault lies with the drunk behind the wheel BUT having 30-shell clips is STUPID. I don't know anybody who hunts with a Glock.

"If all guns evaporated tomorrow, people would still die."

Your arguments are silly. Sort of like Palin bringing up duelling. Guarantee you that if a semi-automatic was a choice of weapon for anybody in a duel, it wouldn't have been a popular way to settle questions of "honor" since both parties as well as their seconds would have died.

Yes, but how many gangs would commit a
    drive-by rock throwing? Or a drive-by stabbing?
Can a person in a tower kill people by chucking bricks? Yes, but eventually folks would stay
    out of throwing range.

Guns make killing EASY. They are fast & you
don't have to interact with your victims, look
in their eyes, hear them beg, etc. It is over and
done with. They go in, mow down a crowd, and
no one has a chance. A knife wielding spree-killer
in a crowd? That is a braver person than a
    guy with a gun.

Serial killers like the up-close & personal
killing, but snipers don't. Gangs don't. Political
assassins don't. Society would be better off

9:44 AM One thing we can all agree with is that Ted Nugent is the consummate hunter and does more to promote the sport and the put food on the table meme than most. You tell me, why was he suddenly doing 360 with Anderson Cooper? He was a gentleman and civil to Roseanne Barr. He knows how to be effective with media. He'll be back to let people know what he supports or to promote.

Her Dad Chuck fell with the gun and threw off the scope.

Chuck handled the gun for her because he doesn't trust her and is the kink of hunter that when on a $40,000 safari won't let a bad scope stop Sarah. Between Chuck and Levi her hunting ruse should be up. It is not. Sarah Pac will keep it going and they have the media to go along with them. I am curious to know if the broken scope had anything to do with why Ted Nugent can no longer support Palin as a Presidential candidate. Would he hunt like Sarah, with an off balance scope?

The people who are not hunters or familiar with the hunting world look to the leaders, THAT IS Dick Cheney, Ted Nugent and now Sarah Palin who represent all hunters and hunting. Their leadership does matter for how hunting is perceived. Most people do not read hunting blogs or even know they exist. They are more likely to watch CNN, Fox or MSNBC. Radio reaches more people.
Who knows about all the organizations like Safari Club International and their leaders? They will now be better known as the gang that shoots with the broken scope lady.

I don't care if Safari Club International is out to promote themselves as hunters like Palin. I just wish they could deal with facts and speak up. The same goes for Ted Nugent. Dick Cheney has no heart beat and gets a pass on the scope problem.

No, I can honestly say I don't HATE $P. If we met on a street or stood next to each other getting a coffee - I'd introduce my "real" self and say hi.

To me, what is hateful is Palin's demeaning of those who don't agree with her. We have hopes & dreams, want a decent life and productive job. 99.9% love our parents and our children, tho not at the same time. We're different in colors, education, religions, sizes, languages and backgrounds. We live across this country from towering mountains to beaches, in one-horse towns to huge cities. But we are ALL real Americans.

Because I am NOT the same by having a different belief, or different color, or choose to love differently does NOT make me LESS human or American.

Palin plays/uses the differences - Real Americans - those who follow "the deserving" vs Unamerican Liberals - who disagree with her are dismissed as unworthy period. Once in the box as "dismissed" - she refuses to acknowledge us or hear us.

To be honest, Sarah could learn a lot from us because we also feel "our government" doesn't hear our voices or concerns. It is one thing to be disenfranchised by the government - it is another to be snubbed by a candidate expecting my vote.

Using words beyond your comprehension only makes your attempted verbage a rambling incomprehensable word salad worthy of Sarah Palin.

The rest of your incoherent ramblings make no more sense than one of the Moose Mama's tirades.

If you knew the meanings of the words you attempted to use you would have known that! Now make a threat out of that you pathetic moron and go screeching rape or stalker like Slimey Sarah does when caught being stupid.

P.S. That "rapture" reference only proves that you are more brainwashed and stupid than I thought.

There is no such thing as karma--if there was, a
9 year old girl would still be alive, and Saint
    Sarah would, well, you know....

That statement is as ignorant as saying that if GW Bush were dead, the thousands of children he killed in Iraq would come back to life today. That is not the way it works. Try educating yourself. Broaden your reading list. (if you have one)

Too bad no one ever explained to you that there is a difference between apples and oranges.

AS FOR KARMA, you obviously have no more understanding of it than you do of oranges and apples.

Karma/Poetic Justice .....starting for the grizzly granny.
