Okay this is just sweet.

You know people said they voted for George W. Bush because he was the kind of guy they would want to have a beer with (Because you know sharing a brewski with a recovering alcoholic is always good for shits and giggles.), but I would genuinely like to spend a few minutes with President Obama doing just about ANYTHING.  He just strikes me as a great guy that would make those few minutes a memorable experience.

I was really touched by this interaction with his press secretary.  It felt very real, and honest to me.

I watched this live on whitehouse.gov as it followed the president's statement on regime change in Egypt. It was very touching. I will miss Gibbs. I've tried to watch his morning briefings regularly after Pres. Obama's inauguration. He is intelligent, sharp as a tack, and humorous. He will be missed. Tough job. The administration assumed the "mantle of power" after the nation was tanked. But Gibbs was always calm and clear. Even if some didn't like the message - the honest truth.

I have always liked Gibbs and the way he answered questions calmly and clearly. I will miss him. I hope to see him again answering questions during the run up to 2012.

Yes, that was a nice moment. But then, these are two nice guys - really, sincerely, deeply nice, decent men whose calm intelligence has steered us through some very dramatic and challenging times.

Gibbs was such a refreshing change from previous Presidential Press Secretaries. It's a job I certainly wouldn't want, but he seemed to handle it pretty damn well most days.

I think I saw him stressed-out only a couple of times and maybe even then I might have been looking for it because it was difficult to be sure that someone had gotten to him.

Too often we've seen Press Secretaries whose own egos got in the way of the message and whose own opinions were mixed in and muddled what needed to be said. Not with Gibbs - not at least as far as I could tell.

But, as with you, I think the moment belonged to President Obama. What a touching gesture, filled with down-to-earth humor and obvious affection.

Not like the phony "He'll come on down to the ranch, and we'll sit on the front porch in rocking chairs and . . . ." type of BS that Bush handed out when Scott was dismissed. I still remember how stunned he looked with Georgie said that. No one was buying any friendliness between the two of them at that point.

So much better now. President Obama is the President I have hoped for for so very long. I am so glad he is serving our country.

  5. Sorry still trying to wrap my head around lame fascist propaganda. I have no respect for these people. I will not buy a word of their bullshit. It's us or them and that's where this is all going.

I am proud that this man is our President. I wouldn't want that job for all the money in the world (but I'm an introvert so that's probably why) but he handles this tough position through enormous criticism with grace and kindness.

    Lovely snippet of the interaction.

This AP video includes the beginning of the press conference with Obama which had some more humorous lines from the president.

  8. Thank you for posting this heartwarming video that I would not otherwise have seen. A tribute to two wonderful men. We are so beyond lucky to have these decent, fine, able men guide us through these very difficult times.

    Thank you again, Gryphen.

  10. Think back over the past two years ... there is no question the president is in charge. There's no shadow VP ala Cheney. There's no scandal ala Clinton. There's just been this steady handling of the nation's business without drama. There's never been even a whiff of inappropriate personal behavior. Everything that's out there is just outrageous, manufactured stuff that's just plain goofy.

Isn't that something? And here I thought you had to be a Republican to be a manager. Or so I was told. At the very least, this president and his staff puts the MBA president to shame when it comes to basic management skills. Love it.

A genuine moment between two genuinely nice people. It is very clear that these two men care about each other and have tremendous respect for each other.

They've both performed admirably under extraordinarily difficult circumstances, and I couldn't be prouder to have both of them represent me and my country.

  12. I'm sorry, but I couldn't help thinking when I heard this...what took him so long to return the tie? He's had it all this time? Why not give it back right after or the next day? Or the next time he saw him? Or mail it back?
