Oooh, this is not going to make a certain Grizzled Mama very happy.

From ABC News:

Top Line co-host Rick Klein asked (Ron) Reagan who is more like his father – President Obama or Sarah Palin? Reagan didn’t hesitate:

“Just on the basis of intelligence, you would have to say Barack Obama. I don’t think my father has anything in common with Sarah Palin whatsoever,” Reagan told Top Line. “I'm a little offended that we even have to talk about Sarah Palin, who has nothing interesting to say.”

“Of course my father cut taxes when he was in office, but he also raised taxes as well when he was governor of California. He signed one of the most liberal abortion laws in the country and offered amnesty to illegal immigrants as well. That probably wouldn't sit too well with the tea party of today. But again, those were different times.”

Oh yeah THAT is not going to set well with the Palin-bots and the Teabaggers!

Of course they can take some solace in the fact that at least Michael Reagan, the family member who does NOT share any DNA with the Gipper, is just as wing nutty as they are. Good luck with that bargain basement Reagan family member!

Personally I hope that President Obama is NOT very much like Ronald Reagan at all.  I would like to think that our President was a much more compassionate man then was the one who sat on his hands and did nothing during the AIDS epidemic in this country because it was then only considered the "Gay Plague."

    Where have you been?

He's been making the rounds saying that for two weeks.

    Old news.

Don't forget that in Anchorage, Michael Raegan was here and Sarah introduced him...forget when that way....but, that is her ONLY connection to the Raegan family. President Raegan must be turning over in his grave having sister Sarah connect herself to him.

I'd truly love to hear what Nancy thinks...although she's too much a 'class act' to reiterate. I hope Nancy is working behind the scenes ready to nail Palin's ass should she even try to run for the presidency.

i have to say, Gryphen, that while I don't care for Michael Reagan's personality or politics, I think your remarks about him being adopted are cheap shots and uncalled for. Those remarks certainly didn't add anything to your post.

Reagan's IQ was more like Palins, I would surmise, not like Obama, IMHO!

Also, too, Reagan had already Alzheimers while he was still in office! I don't remember where I read about that just a couple of days ago - some reporter wrote about that, that he was almost catatonic when she was talking to him at the end.
I also remember that he considered KETCHUP to be a VEGETABLE for purposes of school lunches!

Actually Ron's book is getting good reviews. The only thing the snowdrifter and Reagan have in common is that both she and Nancy were pregant when they got married. The snowdrifter doesn't know anything about Reagan.

@4:47 - So what? He's still saying it so that Sarah Palin does not tarnish the image of his dead father; the Reagans don't like her! I hope Ron Junior says that same speech once a week for the rest of the year!

Here, here! Good point, Gryphen. President Obama is a more compassionate, intelligent man than President Reagan.

President Obama also did not stoop to tactics such as selling out his colleagues to communist witch hunters as Reagan did as head of the Actor's Guild so he could gain more power.

Families could live on one income prior to the Reagan years. Children didn't have to count ketchup as a vegetable in their school lunches as they did under Reagan, and environmentalism was not limited to the totally stupid view of "if you've seen one tree, you've seen them all."

President Obama shares very little in common with the late President Reagan other than a calm and pleasing personality, a patient and reassuring manner. His capacity is far above those who came before him (except for perhaps President Carter who graduated from the US Naval Academy and commanded a nuclear submarine - an accomplishment few earn).

While I can understand the pride of a son in his father, I do think Ron Reagan is a bit too optimistic about his father's accomplishments. There were several good things, but in my opinion the negative outweighed the opposite.

Both biological children of the Gipper don't think much of Palin and gang. In fact in Michael Reagan's book, he is not kind to his father so it's probably not a compliment when he says Palin reminds him of his dad.....

I remember seeing Ron Jr on MSNBC a year or so ago arguing with some bubble headed bleached blond wingnut about his dad. The conservadolt insisted she knew Reagan better than his own son did! The ignorance of the far right burns.

Palin has nothing in common with Ronald Reagan....well except that they are both huamn beings, but I think that the jury is still out on that.

As for Obama and Reagan being "like" - Dude yes! They both have or had male organs!

Reagan waS AND ALWAYS will be a b=GRADE ACTOR. THE PRESIDENT IS USING the right's adulation of the man for political gain. Who knows if it will gain anything.

So Palin just said this on Hannity about Santorum.

“I won’t resort to calling him a knuckle-dragging neanderthal. I’ll leave that to his wife”

And C4P is sure she is running for Pres now since she alluded to how she will announce.

You know I thought this would be over by now. I thought she was done. If she announces she is going to run I am done reading the Palin blogs forever. I can't take anymore of this fowl woman, and if I have to deal with her on any official level I refuse to deal with her rumors too.

    I'm so sick right now

    ReplyDelete
  15. Okay, now she's really done it.

Sarah Palin made me defend Ronald Reagan. I feel like I need brain bleach. I couldn't stand him as president and hated what happened to the country on his watch. Yet, I cannot stand it that she thinks she's his equal. He did in fact govern California for two full terms. He actually paid his dues. She can't compare to the reality of him or the myth. Give it up.

I miss listening to Ron Jr's radio show. It's also a shame he doesn't get more air time on TV.

I have to say, Ron has been making these kind of comments for some time now and most recently when his book was released and the "other" son took to the media about the Alzheimer's comments. When Ron Jr. spoke about his new book and defending his comments, he was also asked about Palin etc.-- so this may have been new to some, but not all of us.

Let's be brutally honest. Reagan was not much of an intellect. That, in and of itself is not necessarily a damning observation, but he was not overly bright.

By any objective measure, President Obama is easily one of the smartest presidents in our history. Were he not black, NOBODY would raise the charge that he was not qualified to be POTUS and primping, preening, ignorant bitch like Sarah Palin was. You might as well claim that Palin was more qualified to be the Lucasian Professor of Mathematics at Cambridge than was Dr. Stephen Hawking. No fucking way.

As modest as Reagan's intellect may have been, he seemes a veritable Sir Isaac Newton in comparison with Palin. Palin is a semi-literate, narcissistic, dim-witted grifting clod whose only skill seems to be in butchering the English language. She is EASILY the least intelligent buffoon who has ever dared trod upon the national political stage.

My Canadian in-laws were visiting when the Biden/Palin debate was on TV. My very staid mother-in-law howled with alternating laughter and disgust that we Americans would allow a simpering buffoon like Palin to be one of our candidates but one heartbeat away from the Oval Office.

Why the hell don't we just all say it out loud and get that bitch off the national stage?: Palin is a fucking moron.

She could barely keep her eyes open, it seemed. Could not watch any more of Hannity declaring Obama's chances for re-election dead and Sarah once again trashing the president's policies. When will this nightmare end?

He had been known to make Palin-sized gaffes.
For example, when Patty Hearst was kidnapped, the SLA demanded that the state of California offered free food to the poor of LA. Reagan was gov at that time and he said publicly that this was a good time "for botulism to break out." Scored poorly both on biology and human empathy.

RAM: "Yeah? Hang on a minute, she's up in her room watching 'The Young and the Restless' (snapping her gum and huffing and puffing to get up the stairs)

"Governor queen, Mrs. Reagan is on the phone!"

$ARAH: "Nancy, how are ya? I've been waitin' on this call from ya and here ya are, making the rill call, callin' me!"

NANCY'S SECRETARY: "Hold please for Mrs. Ronald Reagan, the former First Lady."

$ARAH: "Yeah, sure. (whispering to Tawd to get that 'retarded baby and stick a bottle in his mouth, I'm talkin' to Nancy for cripes sakes and don't want him pitchin' a fit!')

    NANCY: "Mrs. Paylin?

$ARAH: (interupting) "Oh, Nancy Nancy Nancy, I'm SOOOOOO happy you called! I was just tellin' Todd how much I love you and Ronnie and how it felt just like comin' home when I was up there at the ranch last week also and how you must have just loved bein' up there with them horses and whatnot and just how rill amerika it felt and....

    NANCY: Ms. Paylin, I...

$ARAH: (interupting) and can I say also too that those idills that Ronnie and you had to make this great country great also, it inspired me to run also, just like Ronnie and that I prayed that God would open those doors and I would plow on through and...

NANCY: (interupting and raising her voice which jolts Paylin into silence) "MS, PAYLIN!!! (composing her demeanor) Now you listen to me. I am Mrs. Ronald Reagan. I am not 'Nancy' to you but only to those who I know and I don't know you. I was married to Ronald Reagan. He was the love of my life. He never quit his job as governor of California and believe me, he faced more problems in his state than you could shake a special needs baby at. He dealt with those problems and then some, was approachable, warm and caring. He didn't engage in gutter sniping or in antics to get attention. I knew Ronald Reagan. YOU, my dear, are NO RONALD REAGAN (saying firmly) and you will NEVER be RONALD REAGAN. Now leave my husband's legacy alone little tramp." Hangs up the phone

Who cares why Jane and Ronald adopted rather than be birth parents? Birth parents have babies for shallow reasons also.

You are correct that Reagan and his son were not close and it is legitimate to comment on his use of the Reagan name and connections for that reason.

Biological children can be in the same situation and can be criticized for the same reason.

But him being an adopted son does not make him a lesser "bargain basement" Reagan.

So no, I don't believe Gryphen's comment makes sense and it is still a cheap shot. There are plenty of reasons to criticize Michael Reagan's use of his father's legacy. Being adopted is not one of them.
