Republicans believe their path to future victories leads through Wisconsin.

Image borrowed from Keith Olbermann's new FOK News Channel
From Politico:

Looking over the wreckage of the 2008 elections, Tommy Thompson, the state’s former four-term GOP governor, reacted with amazement.

“I’m sort of shellshocked,” Thompson told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “The whole thing is blue! Wisconsin is the bluest of the blue!”

No one says that anymore.

After a midterm election that turned the state’s congressional delegation upside down and delivered the governor’s office and the state Legislature back to the GOP, Wisconsin Republicans are serving as the national party’s vanguard, spearheading the assault on the Democratic Party in both practice and spirit.

Thompson no longer laments the political direction of his home state.

“You have to understand, this is the biggest Republican victory the state of Wisconsin’s ever had,” Thompson told POLITICO in an interview. “It really has been a Republican year for Wisconsin and a Wisconsin year for Republicans.”

So now that the GOP has a little power to wield they have decided to start destroying the oppositions chances of taking back Wisconsin by destabilizing the unions and undermining their ability to organize voters for 2012. And this, they seem believe, is the GOP blueprint for gaining control of other states as well.

Of course that is not to say that the unions and progressives are giving up without a fight. In fact if this Flickr slide show is any indication their momentum is beginning to build to a level that the GOP may not have been prepared to deal with.

Oh and by the way, new GOP hero Scott Walker may have some serious problems of his own.

And if all of that was not enough to put a little worry into the Republican party, perhaps the knowledge that the battle has been joined by union supporters from as far away as Poland as well as by an unexpected, and rather powerful new participant might.

Dear Citizens of the United States of America,

It has come to our attention that the brothers, David and Charles Koch--the billionaire owners of Koch Industries--have long attempted to usurp American Democracy. Their actions to undermine the legitimate political process in Wisconsin are the final straw. Starting today we fight back.

Koch Industries, and oligarchs like them, have most recently started to manipulate the political agenda in Wisconsin. Governor Walker's union-busting budget plan contains a clause that went nearly un-noticed. This clause would allow the sale of publicly owned utility plants in Wisconsin to private parties (specifically, Koch Industries) at any price, no matter how low, without a public bidding process. The Koch's have helped to fuel the unrest in Wisconsin and the drive behind the bill to eliminate the collective bargaining power of unions in a bid to gain a monopoly over the state's power supplies.

The Koch brothers have made a science of fabricating 'grassroots' organizations and advertising campaigns to support them in an attempt to sway voters based on their falsehoods. Americans for Prosperity, Club for Growth and Citizens United are just a few of these organizations. In a world where corporate money has become the lifeblood of political influence, the labor unions are one of the few ways citizens have to fight against corporate greed. Anonymous cannot ignore the plight of the citizen-workers of Wisconsin, or the opportunity to fight for the people in America's broken political system. For these reasons, we feel that the Koch brothers threaten the United States democratic system and, by extension, all freedom-loving individuals everywhere. As such, we have no choice but to spread the word of the Koch brothers' political manipulation, their single-minded intent and the insidious truth of their actions in Wisconsin, for all to witness.

Anonymous hears the voice of the down trodden American people, whose rights and liberties are being systematically removed one by one, even when their own government refuses to listen or worse - is complicit in these attacks.

We are actively seeking vulnerabilities, but in the mean time we are calling for all supporters of true Democracy, and Freedom of The People, to boycott all Koch Industries' paper products. We welcome unions across the globe to join us in this boycott to show that you will not allow big business to dictate your freedom.

Anonymous.

So send your good thoughts and prayers toward Wisconsin my friends, because it appears that all of our futures may depend on the outcome of this battle between the forces for corporate America and the armies representing the every day REAL Americans.

Yes, the way to get to the "men behind the curtain" is to legitimately expose their surrogates, like Walker, and boycott their products entirely. Working people need to understand that our way, a non-violent revolution as expressed during the last 2 wks in Madison, is the way to go. Changing hearts and minds, not with force, but with peace and love for each other.

We need to boycott everything Koch Brothers manufacture or sell! We also need to support people of Wisconsin in impeaching Walker! Let's run the Koch Brothers out of the US and send them back to Germany where they came from!

I know I've seen a list somewhere of the Koch brothers' industries and products. As a refresher for your readers here, could you please find and post that list?

If memory serves, it would include all Georgia Pacific building materials, Brawny paper towels, quilted Northern toilet paper, and Dixie and Vanity Fair paper products. I'm sure there are others. Thanks, Gryph!

The lion of democracy may have been asleep during the midterms, but he is roaring back to life. Thank God the people of Wisconsin are strong and determined, because the Kochs have lots of money, lots of media in their pocket, and lots of time.

I think Koch Industries just attracted the attention from the wrong hornet's nest. Anon is not a bunch you want to get into a pissing contest with. They win, every time.

  9. Does any site have a list of Koch products yet? I know it is extensive.

  10. I copied and pasted this from democratic underground.

While most of Koch Industries revolves around energy and gas—including pipelines in Texas and Oklahoma, and refineries in Mississippi—it also owns the Georgia-Pacific paper company, which makes a bevy of popular products, like the following:

    Angel Soft toilet paper
    Brawny paper towels
Dixie plates, bowls, napkins and cups
    Mardi Gras napkins and towels
    Quilted Northern toilet paper
    Soft ‘n Gentle toilet paper
    Sparkle napkins
    Vanity Fair napkins
    Zee napkins

    --------

The nation’s other largest paper company, Kimberly-Clark, which produces Kleenex, Kotex, Cottonelle, Depends and Scott paper towel, to name a few, is run by a man named Thomas Falk.

Falk has previously donated to John Cornyn, the Republican Senator who once likened same-sex marriage to tying the knot with a box turtle, regularly assails a woman’s right to choose and in 2005 voted against increased funding for armored vehicles for soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan.

In a way, we should be thankful that Scott Walker is digging in his heels. It's really provided the match that was needed to light a nation-wide fiery class movement. Yep, class - I said it. It's about time we all acknowledge that the Republicans have been waging a sick class war in this country, just so a few people at the top can gobble up the entire economy.

So thanks, Scott Walker. If you hadn't tried to be such an obvious dictator, those hundreds of thousands of people...and growing...would not be amassing in front of your temporary office.

With the Koch brothers, they only call it class war when we fight back. Otherwise, they call it business as usual.

The likely reason why Republicans won big in WI last fall because Tweedle Dee & Tweedle Dum Koch poured millions of $$$ into campaign ads in WI in order to break unions across the USA. I'm sure the ads lied, lied and lied about the candidates, too!

Nothing to be proud of here.

It seems that prank call may end up landing walker in deep shit. Wisconsin has the toughest ethics laws and it seems this call may be proof enough that Walker took favors.

    Enjoy the read.

I heard that 800,000 fewer Wisconsins voted in the midterms than 2008. In short, progressives stayed home. I don't think that will be the case in 2012, and from the looks of things, a lot of people who did vote for Walker will be changing their minds.

btw, saw a photo of a great protest sign at Wisconsin: "UNITED WE BARGAIN, DIVIDED WE BEG."

yup. And the rightwingers know it.

    Feed the demonstrators

click on the Ians in Madison and scroll down to the info of Feb 21.

I have read that they are limiting orders to $25, and are delivering 20 pizza's a hour during peak hours.

They also have shared out some of the orders to another pizza joint to cover the orders.

Well, it is a class war and we vastly outnumber our opponents. I can't wait until they realize that their years of calling the unwashed masses a bunch of parasites has consequences.

As a child, I carried thermoses of coffee to striking Longshoreman in Juneau and witnessed some knock-down bloody fights to keep scabs from crossing the picket lines. Maybe that's what the unions are going to have to return to--bloody warfare for human rights. Anyone who has not watched the video "From Wharf Rats to Lords of the Docks" (the Harry Bridges story) may wish to do so. It shows how men worked for pennies an hour BEFORE UNIONS FOUGHT FOR THE POWER OF THE COMMON MAN.

You can Google Koch Industries and go down a state by state list of their US holdings and what are produced.

    Big problem.
They are a major manufacturer of spandex, so the question comes, are Americans willing to live with draw string drawers and droopy boobs?

There are losts of things that could be avoided, but they are into so much it would be extremely difficult to actually boycott them enough to hurt.

Just heard that Walker is saying Dems have 24 hours to get home and vote for DIRE legislation to refinance state debt.

I hope they respond if it's that important, then everything in the bill besides that should be scrapped. Because the entire bill is one big power grab for Walker, including the right to sell off state assets.

There are some great articles, one by Daily Kos yesterday, that talk about how Koch Bros altered the voting process in WI and created cases of voter suppression. There are also details of how the bill contains clauses to make cuts to Medicaid by changing the legal process and allowing someone in an inappropriate position to do this.
