Sarah Palin's approval numbers highest among "Birthers." I'm sorry my irony meter just broke.

From The Plum Line:

The new poll from the Dem firm Public Policy Polling finds that a majority of likely GOP primary voters falsely believe Obama wasn't born in the United States. But this breakdown of their attitudes towards Sarah Palin is of particular interest:

A 51% majority of national GOP primary voters erroneously think President Obama was not born in the U.S. 28% know that he was. With the latter, Palin's favorability rating is 41-52 -- other than Ron Paul, the only candidate these voters view negatively. But with birthers, she has a soaring 83-12, far higher than for any of the others.

Okay let me get this straight, the group of people in this country the MOST focused on legitimate birth certificates are supporting SARAH PALIN?

Is somebody putting me on?  Is that Ashton Kutcher hiding over there?

Seriously, is this a joke?

Kind of says it all about sarah palin AND her followers.
Wonder what they will do when she WILL not show the birth certificate?
Can we start saying it's a fake??

  2. The afterbirthers are only interested in the birth certificates of nonwhite, non lunatic Xtian politicians. Mama Grifter could claim that she got Trig after the Great Pumpkin deposited him in the pumpkin patch, and the afterbirthers wouldn't care.

Isn't that a Rove tactic? Transfer your weaknesses onto your opponent. Say, just for instance, Palin will not produce Trig's birth certificate, so she makes a big deal about President Obama's even though he has proven his authenticity. Where do these ignorant people come from? How do they function in "real life"? Anyone who seriously thinks Palin is qualified for office neeeds a mental evaluation.

No, Uncle Gryphen, it makes total sense. The ONLY people who can accept Sarah's /pregnancy/birth story once they hear it are those who are terminally stoopid. The same stoopids who want to believe Pres Obama is a pretender to the office.
But yes, the irony is mind f'ing.

These are the same folks who would absolutely believe Sarah's wild ride story, and believe Bristol is a sweet young abstinent thing who only has boys living with her because they "love Tripp" and help her with baby chores. They believe SaRAHPAC uses all the money they send them for electing candidates, and that Sarah's hiring of high school buddies is because their jobs aren't really that hard..no brains required.

We know "birthers" are ignorant, so, of course they would support Sarah Palin. I guess the irony, is the fact, that President Obama was really born in the United States of America and has a birth certificate to prove it, but Sarah Palin doesn't have a birth certificate that proves she gave birth to Trig. As a side note: I think (conjecture) that she hasn't and won't release her medical records because she has been treated for a mental illness, she has had a white-out, and had her tubes tied before the appearance of Trig.

Oh no, no, no, it isn't racist or trashist at all to think perhaps, that Barack Hussein Obama wasn't born in this country via his white mother not abstaining with a black muslin Kenyan.

You LSMer's need to remember that these are just good, curious, questioning patriotic Americans that doubt every leader that doesn't look like them.

When a Washington insider looks like them, they are free to grow the budget, looking to the tax payer to bail them out - but we just get ill, ill across this great country when a person who pals around with washed up terrorists that accidentally kill a security guard in an empty off-hours building over the attempted assassination of a Congresswoman and the casualty of a 9 year old girl who did more for progressin our freedoms over my potential coronation any day.

So you owe these good people with a healthy distrust of anyone who doesn't look like the America the way you and I see it an apology. So thanks a lot there LSM, being so lame as I call it from the comfort of my Ivory Tower so as not to be accountable to Haters that some say makes up most of this treasonous country.

Also now, I believe my words here constitute a speech so where's my hundred thousand dollars?

The truth is the truth. The Birthers can't handle the truth, because it means that (gasp!) a BLACK MAN is the POTUS! The fact is that Obama was indeed born in HAWAII. The fact remains that Sarah Palin has yet to show a bc for Trig.

Even though these birther people are chasing a non-issue, to make it even more of a non-issue is that President Obama's mother was a US citizen which means it doesn't matter where he was born (or Sarah, for that matter). Am I right in remembering that John McCain was born in Panama?

  19. Persephone5:16 AM

    Anon at 4:54,

Give it up, already. I can't produce a "long form" birth certificate either, but I was born in California in 1964 with the accompanying birth announcements, photos, etc. My "short form" BC has served as ID just fine and so should Obama's.

It has been acknowledged by the powers that be (including Republicans) that Obama was indeed born in Hawaii. The fact that the conservative-leaning Supreme Court won't take this up should tell you something.

This is stupid. There are justifiable reasons some people still question Obama's birth. The two hospitals on the record for having been the birthplace is a big one. Massive scrubbing was done in the past to hide other various facts. His book and what he chose to leave out is a big clue. People need to get over themselves and stop believing his intentions are pure. The past several years he has been riding the wave of anti republican. He knows exactly what he can get away with because the media doesnt report the meaty stuff. His lies, his exaggerations, his mythology is ignored because...I have no clue. He's the people's savior, yet he's doing nothing to help the majority of legal Americans. I sincerely hope AZ's lawsuit pans out and slaps this admin with a huge dose of karma. Well, it's easy Gryphen; they are prone to believe a set of highly questionable "facts", ie, the provably false story that Sarah told about the birth of "her" son, Trig.

Water broke in Texas yet got no exam in the hospital in TX mere blocks(?) from the hotel to see if dilation had started and labor was imminent, instead stayed to give a speech, then "hurried" back to Alaska with the original--not modified- flight plans, and "rushed" to the community hospital that does not care for high-risk pregnancies or special care infants, passing the Big Hospital in Anchorage with the NICU....sure, that's believable to these people.

Having a fifth pregnancy at age 43, and not showing at all even at 7 months along--completely believable.

See? The weirder the "facts", the more likely they are to be true, according to these folks.

Us? We call bullsh*t when we see it.

  24. Another irony is that the birthers keep going on about Obama's birth certificate, yet none of them seem concerned that GWBush went AWOL in the National Guard. Several current and former state officials in Hawaii (including the current and previous governors) have both said they have seen the document. The current governor knew Obama's parents around the time of his birth.

Yet nobody has ever stepped forwards and say they saw GWB show up for duty in Alabama nor has anyone said they have seen documents proving that he did so.

Aren't these people who claim to be concerned about the sanctity of the Constitution a bit bothered by having someone who went AWOL be the Commander in Chief of the military?

And I do not know if there is anything to be gained at this point by Obama releasing his BC. The birthers have already fallen for multiple fakes that supposedly proved he was born in Kenya. One of them was signed by "Dudley Doright".

And to all those Obamabirthers STILL going on about fantasy irregularities and scrubbing: Don't you idiots realize that IT DOESN"T MATTER WHERE HE WAS BORN. His mother is a US citizen, ergo he is a natural born US citizen. So stop making yourselves look like the idiots you are.

I had a child born overseas to a nonAmerican father. I know what I had to go through to get his American passport. His foreign birthplace is on his passport. I had to get a document called "birth of an American citizen abroad." It wasn't easy. I know a US diplomat married to a Greek who had to declare his daughter illegitimate in order to get her an American passport because she was born overseas (to take advantage of looser laws enacted for the illegitimate children of Vietnam soldiers brought to this country.) To suggest that Mrs. Obama could have run an end game around all that bureaucracy is laughable. It's like continuing to believe the moon is made of cheese.

Are Barack Obama's intentions not "pure" because he's a black guy with a funny sounding name? What the fuck has $arah Palin, or the republican party ever done to help "legal" people (other than rich people) in this country? NOTHING! For a party who hates foreigners, they sure like shipping OUR jobs over seas to them. They put the country trillions of dollars in debt, and destroyed the economy. Sounds like the G.O.P. has "pure" intentions for this country. NOT. Gee, I wonder why there was an anti-republican wave?

He wasn't functionally illiterate as so many of her defenders are. His comments were allowed through moderation with great frequency, so there was a lot of his writing style to study. His interest seemed fevered, related to a defending Palin's reputation in late 2008 and 2009. He used British/Canadian /Australian/New Zealand, etc., spelling. His defense of her seemed business-related.

It was like a Canadian oil marketing guy trying to defend her with "logic." Then, he stopped. I guess whatever his biz interest was went into effect.

When people accuse Obama of wanting to help non-citizens more than citizens, how come folks don't remember that the problems with illegal immegration existed long before Obama got elected. In fact, there are less people crossing the borders since our economy is in the tank. Obama has been more aggressive in pursuing, prosecuting, and sending them back to where they came from than the last administration. I don't know how they can forget that there was an immigration bill, supported by Bush, voted down by republicans during the last administration. They were holding out for a law that will arrest them all and ship them back. This will NEVER happen because American businesses rely on cheap labor. There are jobs Americans simply will not do. Go ahead and blame it on Obama, but we will pass a law that provides a path to citizenship to a majority of the people who are in this country illegally. We need them as much as they need to be here.

the birthers and those who call obama a socialist or a communist have shown repeatedly that they really have no idea how the country works.

if obama was not a us citizen, or a socialist, or a communist, he never would have even won the primary. the people who really run this country (ie those with billions in cash and assets) already investigated obama, and if anything was amiss he would have never made it this far - guaranteed. those people are not going to trust their life fortunes (spanning generations) and power to someone who threatens their wealth by being a socialist, communist, or imposter.

About a week ago, one of my friends (and she still is my friend in spite of my initial reaction) sent me a forwarded e-mail entitled "Here it is folks! The document we have been waiting for!" and "Here is the magic document almost everyone was hoping to get." It then attaches a Certified Copy of Registration of Birth which in retrospect makes me laugh. (Shouldn't we have the original?) It also claims that Snopes says it's true, which of course is not true, that Obama has spent almost two million dollar (so far) to hide the truth. It goes on and on with other stuff...lots of capitalization and exclamation points.

Needless to say I was furious at my friend for sending me this garbage. I calmed down eventually and apologized for going off on her, but I am still enraged at this thing going around.

In retrospect, I was also kind of pissed off when I remembered that she is Dutch, has lived and enjoyed the benefits of the United States (and Alaska) for more than the thirty years I have known her, but hasn't bothered to become a citizen, has no interest in doing so, therefore doesn't involve herself in such things as voting or taking a constructive part in our politics in any way.

Nevertheless, she is someone I like (but I guarantee she will never send me another anti-Obama e-mail), so I let it go, and we are still friends.

(She was quite surprised at my attitude.)

  47. Idiocracy. The movie Idiocracy. That future for our country gets closer and closer to reality.

Scares me that some people believe this 'birther' nonsense about our President.

    A quote from the movie:

Narrator: As the 21st century began, human evolution was at a turning point. Natural selection, the process by which the strongest, the smartest, the fastest, reproduced in greater numbers than the rest, a process which had once favored the noblest traits of man, now began to favor different traits. Most science fiction of the day predicted a future that was more civilized and more intelligent. But as time went on, things seemed to be heading in the opposite direction. A dumbing down. How did this happen? Evolution does not necessarily reward intelligence. With no natural predators to thin the herd, it began to simply reward those who reproduced the most, and left the intelligent to become an endangered species.

SP never produced her own birth certificate, never mind little Trigger's.

In September 2008, SP's own grandparents stated she was born in Canada.

A lot of people tend to use Wikipedia to prove she was born in Idaho. However, Wiki is not an acceptable form of journalism. It can be edited by anyone and it often is. SP's info has been altered many, many times as well as her children's info re: birth dates etc. Bristol's birth year was changed from 1991 to 1990 to make her appear older. All of the kid's birthdays have been altered except Track's.

IMO - SP probably was born in Canada. It's not like she was vetted by anyone before she was put in the national spotlight.

You said, "There are justifiable reasons some people still question Obama's birth."

    The hell there are.

In order for you to believe that conspiratorial batshit crazy nonsense, you'd have to believe that Obama's parents were capable of orchestrating the greatest Machiavellian plot in the history of mankind - a black African Muslim and a soon to be single mom - possibly the LEAST powerful people in America in 1961. They would have had to have engineered a nearly 50 year plot which ended in their son - a biracial kid with a funny name - becoming POTUS. They would have had to fake two birth announcements in the local Hawaiian papers and bought the silence of ALL medical staff who could have contradicted their story. And that would just be the BEGINNING of this conspiracy theory that lasted nearly FIVE DECADES, the majority of which was orchestrated by a single mom with a biracial bastard son. Tell me when this tale begins to sound even remotely possible.

How fucking stupid - or racist - do you have to be to endorse such a ridiculously harebrained notion as the one I've described?

OK folks let me clear up this "natural born citizen" issue. I am a lawyer, having practiced in Anchorage and Washington DC. A while back I extensively researched the "natural born citizen" issue on behalf of a client, and am probably as much an expert on it as anyone.

A "natural born citizen" is any person with some exceptions) born on US soil or outlying possessions of the US, a child of an ambassador of the US born abroad, or a person born on a US-flagged vessel at sea. That's it. The Supreme Court decided this conclusively in the Wong Kim Ark case in 1898, when considering whether a child born in the US to Chinese immigrants was a natural born citizen (yes). The Arizona whackos who say that US-born children of immigrants are not US citizens are simply wrong.

A person born to a US parent(s) abroad is a "naturalized" citizen. "Naturalization" results from statute enacted by Congress, and Congress sets the terms. The very first Congress enacted a naturalization statute, which has been amended over the years. Today it provides that a child born abroad is a naturalized US citizen if BOTH of his/her parents are US citizens AND one of the parents had a residence in the US.

Naturalized citizens have the same rights and privileges as natural born citizens EXCEPT eligibility to serve as president.

Johh McCain was born in Panama to US parents at a US military installation leased from Panama (the Panama Canal Zone). The courts have never addressed whether a child born on a US military base, or on foreign soil leased to the US is "natural born" vs "naturalized". It would depend upon whether the base was considered a "territory" or "outlying possession" of the US. It is an open question whether McCain would have been eligible to sit as president.

    Got all that?

That's called narcissistic reflection. From wikibooks, Living With a Narcissist:
