Well this is definitely going to make Glenn Beck's head explode.

From Gawker:

Looking for a way to show your support for both pizza and the cause of Wisconsin unions, currently engaged in protests against the state's Republican Governor Scott Walker and his anti-union budget bill? Try calling Ian's, a "campus staple" pizza joint in Madison, which has given away thousands of slices of "donated" pizza to protestors, all bought and paid for by people calling in to the restaurant from around the world. No, really, around the world:

The blackboard behind the counter lists the "countries donating" as "Korea, Finland, Egypt, Denmark, Australia, US, Canada, Germany, China, London, Netherlands, Turkey" and has the abbreviations for all 50 states listed below, with donating states circled. As of Sunday afternoon, 38 states had been marked as contributors.

If you want to help along with the supporters from China and Egypt (Somebody PLEASE send this information to Glenn Beck!) then simply click the Gawker link at the top and it will allow you to get in touch with Ian's so you to can send the gift of "protesting pizza" to the brave people of Wisconsin.

Update: Here is a picture of the actual blackboard from Ian's.

I love it! Especially the pizza "donations" from Egypt and Turkey!!! Awfully nice of them. They are standing behind our American brothers with us in unity against tyranny of power.

(((((High Five Slaps)))))) to all those who sent pizzas to support freedom and peaceful demonstrations!

Given that Wisconsin is a dairy-producing state, it will also help the state's economy. WIN/WIN

Take a look at the Rachel Maddow show on February 18th. I believe she absolutely states what the union busting is all about in Wisconsin.
Don't know if this will take you to the place, but it's the last program that talks about "IF you like weekends . . ."

  6. Count NJ in - I'll call tomorrow to contribute - what an awesome idea. Would be great if there was a similar way to support other protesters around the world.

  7. Unions have well outlived their purpose... today they only seem to make excessive demands for time off, what employees can and cannot or WILL not do while being PAID..

I don't think there is any place for labor unions in today's workplace...

These peeps need to appreciate that they HAVE a job... suck it up, contribute more to their own pensions and insurance or risk losing their jobs. It's just that clear cut, it's just that simple...

To be proud of their protests seems inappropriate... they are lucky to have a job these days... and if they keep this up may not have one afterall... can we say cut off nose to spite face???

They NEED to contribute to their own well being, they need to understand that the state is bankrupt, and that if they want to keep what they had, they are gonna have to cough up some more cash or get canned... it's just simple math... that "teachers" and such aren't getting that is kinda mind blowing...

as Joe Scarbrough pointed out, they are paying less toward their pensions and insurance than the rest of the state... why does this bunch feel so entitled????

Uh, Dorothy...wrong blog. If the Gov. hadn't given all the tax breaks to his buddies, the state wouldn't be in trouble. And by the way, the unions have already agreed to the rollback requests. What he's doing is nothing short of an attempted 'union busting'. And the fact that he thinks it is necessary is all the proof we need that unions are still needed. So...just a suggestion...broaden your reading and get all the facts before commenting on things you don't understand.
    But, thanks for sharing.

    Hey Dorothy,

Where on earth do you get your "facts" from?

The state is not bankrupt. The local papers in WI outlined how the Governor has given away tax breaks to his political buddies and created this budget crisis. Google is your friend, try it sometime.

Why do teatards always insist on making up a budget shortfall on the backs of the middle class? You do realize that without a sound middle class to purchase the goods and services these businesses provide, they too will suffer?

This union has already agreed to give up requested financial concessions but Walker or whatever his name is won't accept that concession. Walker wants to remove the worker's right to bargain collectively. Pray tell, how will THAT help the budget?????

Kindly get better informed before spewing half truths and so called facts.

Walker is trying to RAM through far reaching changes without any debate about what that means to thousands of families.

I thought teaturds didn't like it when politicians try to "RAM" through things? Perhaps that only applies when the legislation helps working Americans and their families rather than corporations?

  12. Dorothy:

Jobs is not the issue here. Workers' rights are. Unions out dated? How in the world can an individual worker negotiate with an employer as big as a state?

You may work for a small company where you can negotiate with your employer directly, but most people can't. You also have to remember that a lot of the benefits you receive were won by unions somewhere.

Dorothy just might possibly be in management at WalMart, could be that's where she gets her "info"

Dorothy, unions are still needed because greed is still a part of human nature. Many businesses - partly those so big that top management is totally removed from contact with the rank and file - will cut costs any way they can, even if it means ignoring unsafe conditions, working people through lunch or after hours with no pay (believe me there are ways around federal laws requiring breaks and minimum lunch hours - just have an official policy of less than 40 hours, even half an hour less, and those laws don't apply coupled with an unofficial policy of firing people who take a break or eat lunch and - presto, nasty working conditions.

As a woman, you should know that businesses need regulation for basic things such as sexual harassment, sick leave, personal time or maternity leave.

As a human being, you should be concerned enough to ensure business provide clean, safe work places. You should also want everyone to have a way to stay afloat with they get sick. Vacations are not a trivial want; they are a health necessity. Not everyone goes to the Bahamas on a vacation. Sometimes you just need down time from stress.

You must not work or ever have worked, Dorothy. Otherwise you'd know these things.

BTW, stop listening to TV pundits and do some independent research. You use the internet. Look stuff up. Do you know teachers have to pay for classes throughout their career just to stay certified and keep their jobs. That can cost upwards of $1500 a summer. Teachers also pay for class supplies out of their own pockets and often cover the costs for tickets or bus fees for kids who can't bring in money because their families don't have enough. Teachers are not robber barons. They are decent folks who hard pretty damn hard for their money.

Managers in business rarely have to "manage" upwards of 30 rambunctious employees. Teachers do that. High school teachers manage over 100 different kids every day.

Just do some independent research and thinking instead of listening to Joe Scarborough - or ask him about the death of his intern when he was a politician.

I'd sure be interested in seeing the campaign donation records for the Governor.

What is it with all the disrespect of teachers? Don't these guys realize they wouldn't be where they were unless they'd been educated?

Of course, some politicians obviously missed some lessons both from school and their religion - but hey, as long as they're rich themselves, it makes it all right, yeah? Gees.

For those of you who may have missed WC's blog on Gryphen's blog roll -

Please go to the following blog, Wickersham's Conscience. It's an Alaskan blog written by an attorney and fantastic bird photographer.

His post today is called "Women and Children First."

In it, WC does a solid job of giving you the facts you need to understand the GOP's attack on women and children. Seriously, it is important to read this.

    http://wickershamsconscience.wordpress.com/

Oh, and Dorothy, please do read this and then check it out. You don't have to trust anyone. Double-check his facts and figures and allegations. I bet WC wins most of his cases because he does a damn fine job of researching.

Folks might want to educate themselves a bit more .I know it's a novel concept . The WI . GOP Govenor is Dictating and not allowing folks to be heard . From what I have read so far (not from Fox) there has been no attempt at negotiating by the Gov..That is the point, and in the end everyone could get what they want and not half of what they want . Working folks want this Country and their States to succeed .The GOP is taking a hard line approach that is reminiscent of a Dictators behavior (Gadafi, among others ).Please give Americans credit for wanting to do the right thing. If we explain and involve folks they will respond and give up whats fair . Otherwise when you get backed into a corner like the GOP is doing across the board to Americans . Back hard working people into a corner and there will be consequences . Someone voted this Dictator mentality into office they are also to blame . Vote whats right don't blindly be a Party sheep. The world is rapidly changing ,we need to be Civil to each other and adapt accordingly .

Here is one of the Tea Party Puppets getting in on the Wisconsin demonstrations.

    He has a plan.

Disgraced Former Tea Party Leader Calls on Right-Wing Activists to Pose as SEIU Organizers

In an email alert to supporters sent last night, Tea Party Nation promotes Williams’ “great idea” to impersonate SEIU organizers at upcoming labor rallies in an attempt to embarrass and discredit the union.

    Here are a few of the details of Mark William's plan;

Williams lays out a highly dishonest and fairly involved scheme to have “plants” sign up on the SEIU website to be organizers for an upcoming rally, dress up in SEIU shirts, and to then make outrageous comments to reporters covering the events in order to “make the gathering look as greedy and goonish as we know that it is”:

That would be this Mark Williams Tea Party Azzhat:

Mark Williams, the spokesperson for Tea Party Express — a leading tea party group, which has been instrumental in Sharron Angle’s Senate campaign in Nevada, among many others — launched into a particularly hateful attack on the NAACP, accusing the group of being “professional race baiters” who deserve to be sent to “the trash heap” with “all the other vile racist groups”:

WILLIAMS: You’re dealing with people who are professional race baiters, who make a very good living off this kind of thing. They make more money off of race than any slave trader ever. It’s time groups like the NAACP went to the trash heap of history where they belong with all the other vile racist groups that emerged in our history.

    Source for the above:

    http://thinkprogress.org/2010/07/14/williams-naacp/

Mark William on another occasion speaking about President Barack Obama (same link):

Williams should know about professional racial baiting. Last year, he called called President Obama an “Indonesian Muslim turned welfare thug and a racist in chief.” And in February, he called Obama “our half white, racist president.”

  26. Just called Ian's from NJ. Donated 3 pies+ tip. Wish I could do more. This pizzeria is donating water, soda, etc. to the protesters. The person who took my order was friendly and told me they were having a good time. As an old protester from the 1960's, I applaud these people. It is really imperative that the protesters win. If they do not, kiss goodbye to the middle class as we know it. These protesters' courage and stamina should make our U.S. proud.

    To Dorothy,

I bet you weren't complaining when, a few years ago, the private sector pension and wages were better than the union jobs. Amazing how you conservatives are always anti-socialism, except when it benefits you. Now that the private sector has tanked, you want to equalize their pensions, which they negotiated at the expense of higher salaries, and redistribute the wealth back to to the private sector levels.

Our labor unions are not narrow, self-seeking groups. They have raised wages, shortened hours, and provided supplemental benefits. Through collective bargaining and grievance procedures, they have brought justice and democracy to the shop floor.
    -- John F. Kennedy

If any man tells you he loves America, yet hates labor, he is a liar. If any man tells you he trusts America, yet fears labor, he is a fool.

Unfortunately, I doubt Glenn Beck's head will explode over this. He will see it as further proof of the global labor plot to destroy America and institute one world government under a sinister cabal of everyone who isn't a moneyed white conservative christian (just can't bring myself to spell his brand of it with a capital C).

If every country in the Middle East suddenly became a Haliburton subsidiary, and THEN supported workers in Wisconsin... that might make Glenn Beck's head explode. Or being kissed on TV by a large gay black man in a tutu... are there any volunteers? Do the world a favour: support the plot to make Glenn Beck's head explode!
