Levi Johnston's younger sister and Tripp's aunt, Mercede, will pose nude for Playboy.
At this time I cannot share any details, Playboy has their own publicity machine so I am officially out of the loop. All I can share is that she is in LA right now for the shoot and everything seems to be going well.
I know that some of you are undoubtedly unhappy with this decision but it is Sadie's life, not ours, and though she may have been given the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of Kim Basinger, Marilyn Monroe, Charlize Theron, Drew Barrymore, Sharon Stone and numerous others because of her last name and association with the Palins, what happens after this is all up to her.
It could be a one time thing or it might open doors for future opportunities. Only time will tell.
From my perspective Sadie is a friend, almost a daughter in fact, and as with all of my friends I am going to be supportive, respect her decision, and be there for her if she needs me.
On the flip side I cannot help but to I think there is a certain young lady living in Arizona who will be none too happy to hear about this news.
Update: Okay Sadie just contacted me and would like me to relay a few things about this shoot.
First she would like you to know that she has been assured that this shoot will be very classy. She is not intending to go "completely" nude and she has turned down numerous other offers to pose nude in the past (True, she has told me about those before.)
She said that she is definitely hoping to use this money to work on her education, and to remind people that she has been working since she was 13 years old, and is NOT lazy as many have stated.
She has a friend helping her mom while she is in LA because Sherry cannot be left on her own right now, which also has much to do with Sadie's decision.
Oh, and she also wants to remind everybody that she is nineteen years old now, not eighteen.
And I would just like to remind all of the jerks trying to get a nasty message posted in the comments section about Mercede, not to waste your time. Like I said, she is a friend and I will not allow her to be insulted in my home. I will allow comments that don't embrace her decision because that seems fair, but NOT insulting ones. Clear?
I'm sure we'll hear that they asked Brystil first but she turned it down due to her high moral standards. As if a Paylin would turn down anything for money! Ha!

ReplyDeleteI'm a grandmother, professional woman, and will not condemn or judge Mercede for appearing in Playboy magazine. It seems that many "upstanding" women have been featured, but don't go overboard, like the "playmates".
America is prudish. Nudity is not a big deal in other countries.
I use to get calls from Playboy all the time, but now the only calls I get are from National Geographic.

I'm one of the posters who is really opposed to Mercede doing this. Yes, I know it's her life and her decision. But I do have the right to voice my opinion. And my opinion is that it's a shitty decision, it shows terrible judgment, and it doesn't deserve respect. Most of the women you cited as examples of Playboy posers have had tragic, troubled lives full of substance abuse and public ridicule. This is what Mercede is sitting herself up for. She is too young and yes, too stupid, to understand the consequences of what she's doing. But she will come to bitterly regret selling her innocence and reputation to the cold moneygrubbers of Playboy.

I am sure the money she earns will help her and her mom a lot - when opportunity knocks might as well go for it - they have had so much grief because of the Palins, it is refreshing that something positive is coming her way. Years ago, a girl I worked with posed for Playboy. We were all supportive (and a bit jealous) of her good fortune, which was considerable at the time. She told us that she was treated very respectfully on set and she was thrilled with the experience. She used the money wisely and went on to have a good life. No one knows the financial status of the Johnstons. If Sadie and her family can benefit from her beauty, fine. Do not compare her situation to Bristol Palin's. Bristol's mother was not convicted of a crime (although she should be) and Sadie's family doesn't have unlimited funds provided by foolish people who also support the Palins by buying her lying books. Sadie: you go, girl. Make a million. Remember: Living well is the best revenge.

I actually already DID pose nude back in my early twenties for only $60.00, $30.00 a day for two days work. It was for a photography class, and was called "nude figure modeling." I cannot say I was emotionally scarred by the experience.
Hell I was half naked the entire time I lived in Hawaii anyhow.
So like I told Sadie today, I have no room to judge.
I'm old enough to know that Mercede, beautiful though she may be, is heading down a road that can only lead to pain. Being paid to expose herself is hardly the way to establish independence or self empowerment. I hope she learns this before it is too late.

nude modeling for an art class is not the same as posing nude for a national publication, even though both makes one money. Artists dont oogle. they use the inspiration from the human form to create their work.

ReplyDeleteI don't have a problem with tasteful nudity. Our country is definitely rather prudish in this area. We've made such a mess of body image and objectification that simple erotica is hard to achieve. And I can't say much for the whole concept of airbrushed bodies either. But we only have that young firm body for a while, so use it or lose it I guess. I would echo the person who asks that Sadie leave the bumpit and overdone mascara in Wasilla. Really, Sadie, despite what you've seen in your home town or on reality tv, the rest of the world associates the bumpit with bad hair taste and Sarah Palin. Ditch it and stay classy. And PLEASE spend the damn money on an education and put some in savings to buy a house or something.

This is my mantra when I am trying to make a rational decision, along with the question, "what have I got to lose?" If Mercedes has thought this through and sees it as a "no lose" proposition, then I believe she is right in accepting this "venture." Really,what's the worse that can happen? As far as I can see, the 2 worst things that can happen are that 1. "some people" won't approve, and that's true no matter what you do, and 2. possibly, a judge will say she can't be around her nephew, but that's a stretch since posing nude for a reputable magazine can hardly be considered a reflection on one's morals in today's world. What she has to gain is money and the possibility of other doors opening for her. Not to mention getting the heck out of Wasilla. If she were my daughter in this situation I would tell her to go for it. And I am a good mom with a good 25 year old college graduate for a daughter.

Well, it would be judgmental for me to tell a young and free adult, with no children, what to do with their body while in their single years. Playboy is a fairly classy magazine. But, we all know that the only reason Playboy is interested is because of the Palins. So she's making her money off that name and that's what bothers me. The Johnstons said they had no interest in cashing in but Levi tried, and Mercede is now trying.

I don't think nudity is the issue--at least for me. The ISSUE is what she DOES with this experience. I had a young friend who was a big star stripper in a Texas men's club. She was one of let's say twenty-five. My FRIEND saved her money and bought herself a construction company never losing herself in the male adulation.. The other 24? Not so much. I know that a lot of you are impressed with Mercede, but I don't have that same positive feeling about her ability to make this a good thing. I certainly would like to be wrong.

There are two types of spreads in Playboy -- the centerfold, which is all kinds of naked and the more tasteful pictorial. I doubt that Mercede will be a centerfold. And I suspect that most of the negative comments are coming from people a few generations removed from Mercede. Playboy centerfolds have TV reality shows. They're part of popular culture and the younger generation doesn't attach so much negativity to the choice to pose nude -- or semi-nude. Go for it, Mercede!

I used the money to go to college and grad school. My mother was at my photo shoot and the pictures were tasteful and beautiful. I was surprised that both my parents were thrilled and proud that I had been chosen to appear.
I am now in my 50s with grown kids of my own and I love looking at those gorgeous photos of myself from back then. I was a "nobody" and playboy treated me with respect
Use what God gave you Sadie, you won't regret it. Someday when you are much older, you will look back and marvel at how beautiful you looked in those pictures.
I say if you got it, go for it. If you are a narrow minded prude then yes you will complain, bitch, and criticize it. She is a private person, this isn't going to hurt her in anyway. That is exactly what needed to be said. Good Lord, this young lady is in a caregiving role for her mother, for God's sake. Caregiving is not only one of the most difficult and depleating roles to take on, no matter who it is, but to switch roles with the daughter taking care of the mother, well that requires maturity and responsibility, of which Mercede seems to have bushels of. And she does it BY CHOICE, JOYFULLY, while maintaining her graciousness and respect for her mama. Good on her. Can any of us say that WE could do what she does in her tender youth???
We live in a world where sex sells. Look around, listen, wake up! For what is within a keystroke of anyone sitting at a computer, still shots of Mercede are nothing. Sarah and Bristol have put the P in Prostituting Themselves for money, fame and attention. What Bristol did on national television was tantamount to sexual gyrations on the dance floor with thin pieces of fabric and tricks of the wardrobe trade barely covering the suggestive and trashy body gyrations that she indulged in.
So thank you Anonymous person for your intelligent response. I'm with ya! And Mercede you lovely, shining Star, you just keep on being the intelligent and thoughtful young adult that you are. You will go far.
one of my highschool classmates posed (post graduation of course) and I called her when it came out. First thing she said was "I WISH I looked like that!" (lots of air brushing - this was in the late 70's). she looked beautiful and had only good things to say about the experience. plus she ended up getting a job working for playboy - corporate level in the PR department!

Mercede is a gorgeous young lady and I don't see anything wrong with posing for Playboy. I'm sure it will be tasteful. Plus Mercede seems like a very strong confident person who knows what she wants.

So are you saying that only those "artistes" who already have money and fame are in it for the "right" reason? And what cash cow are you talking about? Because I haven't seen any cash cow parked in her driveway -- she's had nothing but pain and grief and misfortune as a result of her brother's association with the Palins. I don't think she wants attention, but she and her mother certainly need money, through no fault of Mercede's.
I wish her all the best in all her endeavors, and hope this chance gives her the boost she needs to move forward -- and hopefully away. You go, Mercede.

It should be a good selling issue because the Palins will stir up lots of free advertising for Playboy.
I'm almost 54 and would have done the same thing back in the day Sadie...would have used the $$ wisely to create some security for myself.
Just don't trust everyone you meet in LA. Be sure to check facts and talk to someone you know well and do trust before you make any serious decisions.

A) she's not doing anything illegal
B) she is not Tripp's parent or part of the divorce or custody action.

ReplyDeleteI think women who use sex to get what they want do it to the detriment of all women because there are plenty of men who are raised to see women only as sex objects and not as true equals. To some degree the objectification of women reinforces this view.
ReplyDeleteThat said, I don't think there is a whole lot of difference between Sarah licking her wet glossed lips in her age inappropriate clothing using her occasional suggestive terms and a women who disrobes in front of a camera. One is just more honest about what she is selling.
Thank God we have real, tough, intelligent women like Hillary Clinton and her predecessor Condi Rice (and others)to hold up as examples of women playing on the world stage as equals to any man.

ReplyDeleteThankfully Mercede has natural star power that shines no matter what. I suspect that star quality really started to emerge in middle school, right around the time some girl & her mom became v.e.r.y. jealous?
Mercede navigated that on her own, clearly her mom Sherry is a kind hearted nurturer who just doesn't get the mamacuda game.
I on the other hand am genetically hardwired for it and can see the future moves coming a mile away. They're not over it by a long shot.
