How can anybody saddled with George W. Bush's genetic material be this intelligent and compassionate?

I always liked Laura Bush and thought she did  pretty good job with her  girls.

Just goes to show that not ALL of the children of ignorant right wing nuts turn out to be under educated morons relying on their parents name to open doors for them instead of making their own way in the world.

    Gryphen,

George Bush and President Obama did NOT use their children to force their agenda on the country. They taught them about public service and respect and to be their own individual person.

Sarah Palin Uses her children as shields, props and does not allow them to be who they want to be. She is a control freak and NEEDS them for her own agenda.

Yes, we can give credit to Laura for this. She was a Dem. when she started dating W, don't know if she ever changed her registration.

OT. LMAO. It appears that Sarah won't be the only one appearing in the NE. It appears Speaker Boner was schtooping a paper lobbyist while hundreds of paper employees in this state lost their jobs!!! LOVE IT!

    From Americablog.com
Will Boehner’s be the shortest Speakership ever?

The New York Times passed on the story (if there ever was one; Page 6 of the New York Post isn’t known as the beginning and end of truth), but evidently Boehner hasn’t been successful in making the story go away. I was recently contacted by a reporter from the National Enquirer, and now I have confirmation that their story will hit the newsstands on Thursday.

Wonder how well Boehner’s zero-tolerance pledge regarding corruption will hold up when it comes out that several hundred paper-making jobs were lost in his district and he refused to do anything about it at the same time he was sleeping with a lobbyist for the printing industry that was very happy to get their cheap paper from China.

Gotta give it to Lyons though! She’s one hell of a lobbyist!

  6. The only problem with that ad is the script when she says "New Yorkers believe in marriage equality", implying that ALL New Yorkers do.
Which I very much doubt they do.

I think it detracts from the message of the ad.

Gryphen, as long as the comments are moderated, WHY do we have to put up with trolls? It would be so much more pleasant if we didn't have to put up with the Paliban! Wish they'd stay at the C of P and share their joy!! Also, do you have any way of disabling the "Anonymous" choice for posting? It'd be great if everyone had an identity.

  8. Remember, she's only half a Bush. The smart part is her mom.

The Bush children were well taken care of during their father's years in the spotlight. They weren't dragged from pillar to post to prop up a sagging public persona. At least their father used the appropriate people for that job.

  9. TNbluedot@5.21p - I respectfully disagree with your idea that trolls shouldn't be allowed to post here.

As long as Gryphen can stomach their nonsense, I'd like to see what the "other side" is thinking. (If they think, actually).

Having the posters all have handles - now that's something I can get behind. But I don't like only posting "favorable" comments - that's too much like "Conservatives4Palin".

I think that it's a generational thing. Kids seem to be a little bit more tolerant and a little more color blind that the older generation. Of course there are exceptions (those 30/40 year old somethings that write stuff for Sarah).

You assume hat most of the millenial generation believes in marriage equality. This is untrue. There's a huge chunk of well to do 20 somethings who are successful bankers, lawyers, and whatever who think legalizing gay marriage would devastate the country. Not that they find gays repulsive, but there are more of these types than one would think.

I am proud of Barbara though, as well as cindy m and meghan. I also think with more time john mccain will support it eventually. W did

Laura Bush, G.H. Bust and Barbara Bush (the mother) were all pro-choice at one time or another, so it's not so surprising for young Barbara to be a bit more progressive than her father.

I remember that Laura got into trouble and wasn't seen much and certainly not heard from for several months shortly after Dubya was sworn-in because she made some pro-choice comments. I hope the family supports Barbara the Younger's views.

Glad to see one of Laura's daughters coming out for gay-marriage.

Just read an update where some spokesman is saying essentially that the reason young Barbara is for marriage equality is that she surrounded herself with gay friend as college and in her first job in the design industry.

I hope they mean that she finally figured out gay people are just like everyone else and deserve the same rights as everyone else.

W could give a rats ass about gay marriage. Doubt he even/ever thinks about it. He was told how to think by his handlers and that is what he did. If it was popular within his group to think otherwise he would have. The man is not able to form an independent thought for himself, he was a puppet, just like Regan. Thankfully his daughter had her mom to teach her a few things. Glad this is making the rounds. Great slap in the face to the repugs.

I don't think anyone is guilty of not living their own life. Life is about using your experiences to help others. All bristol is doing is telling people there is wisdom in waiting to have a baby. She has to live everyday with her actions and knowing she should have listened to her parents. But alas all teenagers are stupid until a big lesson is learned.

I think each palin kid has shown themselves to have a mind of their own.

    I know plenty of non-right wing, non-nutjobs,
who are compassionate and intelligent, and
    don't support same-sex marriage. I also know
some who ARE right wing nutjobs, and they
are neither compassionate nor intelligent, and
they are all for it, because they are either
gay themselves, or they have children who are.

I've noticed this tolerance with my nieces and nephews, they're 24 - 39.

They seem to be color, religion, and sexual orientation blind.

I think we've been seeing this same thing in Egypt. The younger ones demanding non-violent change.

Live and let live. The Internet has made us all family.

I, for one, am delighted. I pray it continues.

Also, too, (h/t $arah) hopefully the old order is in the beginnings of falling away.

If I were religious, I'd think Jesus would be applauding.

Well, i know everyone's trying to be positive, and although i really don't have a lot ot say about Barbara Bush, I WILL point out this: she's thirty years old. I guess better late than never, but it's so safe now. The winds are blowing for gay rights now. Where was she five or six years ago? PERFECTLY old enough to make a statement then. I was never impressed with any of them, Laura Bush as little as anybody. Barbara Bush Jr probably more than any of them though.

I do agree that the Bushes were better parents than the Palins. The Bushes were old money WASP with all the "class" that usually comes with this status. (At least overtly.)The Palins were a notch above trailer park trash and the lack of breeding and values shows in their children.

When folks post on here that Bristol is a nice girl that made a mistake, I want to feel for her but I can't. I have seen the mean, and it is not becoming. It's a toss up between which is the worst - the mean directed to the teacher or the gay bashing profanity laden Facebook rant. If she were my daughter I would not be worried about the pregnancy, the mean would be my shame.

The difference between Barbara Bush, Jr. and Bristol Palin is glaring: Barbara and her sister come from more money than the Palins could ever imagine. Yet, the Bush twins still went to college and carved out their own lives (even if it was paid for with a trust fund). Jenna teaches and wrote a book. Barbara works in New York.

And, what do Sarah Palin's children do? Track sits at home doing what exactly? Bristol has an out-of-wedlock child and goes on DWTS. Willow was alleged to have vandalized a house. Piper wears makeup and bumpits. This is a seriously dysfunctional family.

Bristol should be enrolled in a college somewhere and use her money to pay for child care. Instead, she's doing a radio gig (what does she have to say?) and gives 10 minutes speeches about something she hypocritically knows nothing: abstinence.

Bristol didnt bash gays. Willow did. And how would you react if someone put a WGE sign in their yard? I'm guessing most people who love their mother would react strongly. She could've been worse. I probably would have been. I worked with a director once who found out I supported W in the first election and called me a "rich little white girl republican". I said things that would make Julia Roberts's ears bleed because to assume all republicans are rich, spoiled, corrupt and/or evil is the most ridiculous things I've ever heard. My father is a blue collar, 24/7 worker who worked his ass off to send me to a private school so I could avoid teen pregnancy central, all the while skimming on extras for himself and my mother. They justifiably hate tax increases because the govt has no right to raise them due to irresponsibility on their part. They hate the idea of welfare and that bullshit because they worked their way out of holes MANY times without no assistance. PEople in this country are so accustomed to having govt take care of them that they think it should be mandatory, that everyone should WANT to give more. Well guess what, most people give to charity on their own. So fuck you all for your stupid, ignorant liberal, tax raising, republican hating bullshit "principles".

Sorry. that was from an earlier argument I had today.
I dont hate you. I hate how people too easily take sides in the US, when we're all working together.

Why are we comparing people. Of course Bristol and the Bush twins aren't alike. Thats crazy to think they should be just because they're daughters of politicians. Bristol's trying to help girls not make the same mistakes she did. Thats all she's doing. She's pretty blunt in saying "there is wisdom in waiting for kids". She obviously has much regret over her past decisions and straight up says, "i wish I would have had someone SHOW me all this when I got pregnant."

Why does everyone freely criticize before getting to know someone? That goes for Levi and Sadie too. Everyone's young and dumb once. Bristol's story is hers to tell. Sadie's story is hers to tell. No one else knows anything.

Hmmm, last I heard, Bristol was living BRISTOLS life not yours.

You obviously never saw the photos of the Bush girls carousing and involved in a drunken brawl on the floor of a nightclub, or passed out naked on a picknick table full of empty booze bottles and drink glasses or sticking their tongues out at crowds of people lining the street as they were driven by.
