Morality is not determined by the church you attend nor the faith you embrace. It is determined by the quality of your character and the positive impact you have on those you meet along your journey

We know Haley Barbour is running for the GOP nomination in 2012 as he just let his homophobic freak flag fly.
Courtesy of TPM:
On his radio show, Bryan Fischer, the "Director of Issues Analysis" for the social conservative American Family Association, described all of the potential hazards of having gay people serve in the military, and asked Barbour if he'd reinstate the policy "if it turns out it's bad for the military."
"Of course," Barbour replied. "You look at the data and it is the foot-soldier, it is the person who is out there, boots on the ground, who is most against this. And it's because they live or die with this. And that's who we ought to be listening to, that's who we ought to be caring about, and that's why I am against it. I think it ought to be rolled back."
Of course Barbour's talking out of his ass as there is no way to reinstate a policy like this once it has been removed, just like racist politicians could not re-segregate the military once President Truman signed Executive Order 9981.
Just like Huckabee, Trump, and the other GOP hopefuls, Barbour is simply pandering to the slack jawed, knuckle dragging base of the Republican party. These are the individual who vote on hate, fear, and open hostility toward anybody different then they perceive themselves to be.
Just the other day Mercede Johnston sent me a text expressing surprise that I was openly supporting gay rights.
She said she thought "Most men were homophobes."
Actually kiddo, MOST men are not. Only the ones who are frightened of their own sexuality, or are registered as Republicans. If in fact there is a difference.
With GOP contenders like Haley Barbour running against him, 2012 should be a cake walk for President Obama.

O/T: An interview with Geoffrey Dunn,
ReplyDeletehttp://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/blogs/nieto/detail?entry_id=85644#ixzz1HsXQIPtK
(Insights into his book to be released in May; SP, Alaska politics, and GOP)
Don't worry about Barbour. This country elected a black man as President and that was a big deal, but it would be shocking to me if America elected a very overweight man. Seriously.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe the Repubs are recycling these old shits again & that they are using the tired issues that I thought had been put to rest in the last election. No, most of us (male & female) do not give a rat's behind if people are gay. It's a personal choice just like abortion. This clown bus of repubs are so unclear on the issues & world affairs & all the things that matter to us as a society that they recycle irrelevant issues because they are such dumb shits that can't talk intelligently about the real issues & the media gives them air time. It will be our undoing.
ReplyDeleteI had a dream (nightmare) last night that Palin and Barbour were the GOP ticket, and that their rallies looked like KKK meetings. Are we really going to return to the 30's? Seriously people.
ReplyDeleteI don't believe that Barbour is electable. The South isn't big enough.
ReplyDeleteKKK meetings? Seriously?
ReplyDeleteThat is ridiculous.
someone should ask Barbour how he likes working daily with gay men, since the repub. party has so many of them. When he is lobbying in DC, he is surrounded by gay men. By the way, which branch of the military did he serve in? WHAT? He never was in uniform? Maybe they could not find a uniform large enough for his obese body.

ReplyDeleteInterview with Geoffrey Dunn. After reading the interview, I can't wait to read this book. No wonder, she has been freaking out.

ReplyDeleteYes KKK meetings.
Did you pay attention to Palin's campaign stops in 2008? Maybe she'll want to reload on the n*gger word like she encouraged her friend Laura. Old Haley is not averse to KKK heros being on license plates in his state. Not a history of him liking the brown people.
You damed right KKK meetings. There will not be a tanned face in the place.
@miller--Great article about Geoffrey Dunn and his upcoming book. Thanks for the link.
ReplyDeleteThat's nice! Real Americans who hate muslins, messicans, and gays can vote for this greasy hick!

ReplyDeleteMckinley was very overweight. Weight clearly has no bearing on electability.
How the mighty have fallen. The Republicans do not have one candidate that does not look like a clown or a puppet.
ReplyDeleteJust heard a definition tonight I thought you'd appreciate. Interestingly enough it cropped up while my spouse was googling the baby cheeses:
ReplyDeleteHomophobia: Insecurity about being heterosexual.

A gay man saved my Dad's life in WWII, we gained and extra(and our best) Uncle for life and my dad gained a best friend, if he had not been there to risk his life to save my dad...I wouldn't be here either. The racist south is a hotbed of all types of bigotry against anyone and everyone. The extreme views based on radical Middle Eastern Religions like Christianity continue to feed this level of hate against others not just like them. Just think about it...why do tiny one relgion towns in the south need two churches, one white and one black? Barbour's home state is about as rock bottom in many things..education, employment etc. About the only things MS runs in the top three are teen pregnancie and poverty. Lookout for him to continue to say racist, homophobic remarks, he'll take himself right out of the running for 2012.
ReplyDeleteAnd Mercede better look to where she "learned" that men were homophobic, because my guess she learned that from her father. While I am glad that Mercede is past that view it is an example of why bigotry continues in this country.
A gentle reminder to all readers...your children learn by your actions and words.
Thanks Miller and Anon3:36am! I just finished reading the Dunn interview at SFGate.
ReplyDelete(I see a troll has already found their way over to SFGate. "SP is a good christian woman whose integrity is unimpeachable." Bhahaha!!!)
Wow. That book will be absolutely damning. And I will enjoy reading every well-researched word.
ICEBERG DEAD AHEAD! Coming to a bookstore near you, May 2011.
"Bryan Fischer, the "Director of Issues Analysis" for the social conservative American Family Association..."
ReplyDeleteTranslation: Reichsprotektor of America.
"Mckinley was very overweight. Weight clearly has no bearing on electability."
ReplyDeleteWell, that was way before TV (1897-1901). In those days overweight was "portly" and might be perceived with some majesty and as a symbol of wealth.
TV made image almost everything, for better or worse. Just ask sweaty, shadow-bearded Nixon how he fared against a handsome and relaxed Kennedy in that televised debate.
Believe it or not there are even men who live in Alaska, the 'bush' no less, who are not homophopic!
ReplyDeleteA few are registered R but we are working to change that as the party goes totally off the deep end.
So sad to see that there are young people in AK who obviously are around so many men who are threatened they do not realize most are not!
Considering that most of the "men" Mercedes knows are actually BOYS, she's probably fairly correct in her assumption. Very few teenage boys will openly state their support for gay rights lest they themselves be tagged as fags, queers, etc. Doesn't seem to bother teenage girls as much, but it really freaks out the boys.
ReplyDeleteIn case it seemed the freak-show qualities of the GOP field couldn’t get worse, also note that disgraced former Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore, kicked off the bench for refusing to acknowledge federal law, is also interested in launching a presidential exploratory committee.

a lot more here:

Doug Gross, a prominent Republican activist in Iowa, expressed concern that the GOP isn't positioning itself well for appealing to a broader mainstream. "We look like Camp Christian out here," he said.
