With Fox News having suspended Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum, and not Sarah Palin, Lawrence O'Donnell is convinced she is not running. Do you agree?

Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

I have to admit that I have been convinced that Palin IS running in 2012 for quite a long time.

However I have also believed that she did not really want to be the President, but simply wanted to get all of the attention and money by running for the GOP nomination.

Today my thinking is somewhat different in that I believe with all of the new scandalous information about Sister Sarah, her philandering husband, and that screwed up family of hers having leaked all over the internet, she might have reconsidered starting even a brief flirtation with winning the nomination.

I mean let's face it, how hard would it be for her opponents to do extremely damaging oppositional research on Klondike Kardashian these days? Hell I have done most of the work for them!

Having said that however, I STILL would not absolutely rule out a short lived candidacy from Palin just to keep the attention on her, and drum up interest in future ghostwritten books, talking point laden speeches, and a possible new reality show.

After all if even her vacuous, untalented daughter can get a book deal for "writing" her autobiography, clearly there are still a whole lot of terminally stupid people out there who are willing to spend their hard earned money to help Sister Sarah live the life to which she has become accustomed.

  1. Just read an interesting story on HuffPo from the viewpoint of one of Rielle Hunter's friends who finally decided to go to the press about the Edwards affair. Her reasoning for finally opening up should be read by those who are participating in the cover-up of Sarah's scandals.

It's a tough call. A rational person would conclude that $P knows she can't possibly win the nomination and would be humiliated in the process. Plus why would she give up her Fox gig, which pays her big bucks for babbling nonsense? But we are talking Queen Crazy here. No rational thought can predict what she will do. She is insane enough to want to run and have "former presidential candidate" attached to her name for eternity. And since we know she has no shame, whatever embarrassment she suffers in the endeavor will not faze her. But if I had to pick, I guess I would go with, yes, she'll run. Simply because it makes no sense at all.

I don't think she is. But since she has not stated either way, it Does help keep her star from fading away as quickly. (no offense to stars)

I always thought that Sarah liked the idea of running. It would generate donations to her PAC, which may well be her private piggy bank. She loves the attention. And, that's the problem.

Every time that Sarah opens her mouth, tweets or posts something written for her Facebook, she gets criticism. The reason is simple. Sarah is simple. She never put in one minute to study the issues and make herself look like a serious candidate. She wants to run an unconventional campaign where she would be unaccountable.

I think that her ability to intimidate Alaska voices is slipping. If she runs and comes close, even Nicole Wallace (from the McCain campaign) said that she would spill the beans. And, Nicole is not a scared Alaskan who is afraid of losing her job or having Sarah hurt her family.

Sarah loves the tease, will she or won't she. She may go as far as announcing an exploratory committee. But, the polls show that there is little interest in her running. Establishment Republicans are not thrilled with her. If Karl Rove is mocking her ("ooh that fish hit my thigh") running will be tough, even for a rogue candidate.

She likes money and running would mean giving up money. It would also mean giving up more of her privacy, the one she so clearly protects and re-writes.

I am going to go with a no because her track record of quitting says it all. Plus, she's too thin-skinned.

I've posted for close to a year than she would not run.

    And she won't.

$arah's idea of public service is to make herself rich.

Thanks to the rubes who filled her pockets...at their expense.

  9. My personal belief if that she is not running and has even told Fox that she's not. Fox knows Palin is a big draw and will allow her to continue teasing her base via FOX. She knows that all the scandal of the past few weeks is nothing when compared to what will be come out about her if she decides to run. She is very happy sitting a FOX with her million dollar a year contract where she's paid to spew her hate.

I've never believed she'll run; she doesn't want to work that hard. As long as she keeps teasing, she keeps the interest and the bucks rolling in. She's not giving up the bucks for a measly few hundred K a year!

Some of the nitwit Sarah worshipers are so sure that she is running they are already calling her President Palin and fantasizing about the whole clan frolicking about on the White House lawn.

If she doesn't throw her wig into the ring, the poor sobs will be devastated.

I've said for years she won't run. Someone obviously has the goods on her & will or could release them if she runs. Remember all that sex tape talk in this comment section in 2009? She's burned so many bridges as Koch/Murdoch's corporate shill or "Twitty Cathy." After Tucson, she hasn't a prayer.

  13. Anonymous7:05 AM

She'll NEVER, EVER intend to see another candidacy through to the end.

    But,

I will enjoy her short-lived attempt at one just to
see the "extremely healthy competition" investigate the Palins' past and show Sarah for the incompetent buffoon that she is.

(PS- The quote is from the "I Think These Guys are the Toughest Men on the Planet" interview. Really, these are the toughest, really? Just a little SNL moment.)

I do not rule it out completely, but once these books start coming out, just one network interview from a non-boot licker would do her in. She could not handle the questions without getting angry.

And angry Sarah Palin is not a pretty sight no matter how many flags you plaster around and on her.

Kind of a bummer. I would love to watch that interview.

The longer she is up in the air about it, the longer she'll make money with Fox.

She probably sees herself as the 'anti-candidate'--and in her mind it's the perfect candidate. (as do her followers)

She's narcissistic to do it. Since she reads blogs, the more we all goad by saying she'll not run, the more she'll get mad, have her hissy fit, then try to run...and that will make me happy :-) (cuz all the scandals that are still hidden will come out)

    ReplyDelete

She'll run. Her ego won't allow her to do anything else & she's so far in denial about anything based in reality, she thinks the seas will open, the earth will tremble & the world will stand up & welcome her to the Presidency/dictatorship.

I agree with Lawrence. The ONLY way for Sarah Palin to stay in the limelight (dimmed though it has, already), is to NOT run for POTUS. If she runs, she's done.

So maybe I hope I'm wrong?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Anonymous7:16 AM

Don't think it will happen. Disagree with you on this one, Gryphen.

I think too many people know about the baby. Too many people now either KNOW or at least believe that Trig is not hers. Too many people on both sides who don't want it to come out. Everyone who had anything to do with her being picked will never work in politics again - that's a given - but there are a lot of other people (CNN, where were you?) who probably equally don't want this to come out because they all look like idiots. Even as high as the president. Do you honestly think if it's EVER revealed that Palin faked, even Pres. Obama won't have a few awkward moments about why HIS campaign didn't uncover this? And what can they say? "We did but we didn't say anything." (That looks bad.) "We didn't know about it." (That looks worse.)

It's a massive massive coverup, a gigantic game of chicken. There are no winners (except the few bloggers like you, Gryphen, who wouldn't drop it.) There are only big losers and bigger losers.

Who knows what deals have been struck? CBJ could well have already gone to Palin and made it clear that she will keep her mouth shut as long as Palin doesn't run but if Palin ever runs for anything again, all bets are off and she'll do whatever she can to save her medical license, (if it would even be possible at this point). Others in the administration could have made the same deal.

And Sarah is playing along because she doesn't want it to come out either . So Sarah will continue twating (or is that tweeting?) and the dumb-ass masses will continue with wide-eyed speculation, "Will she, won't she?" She won't.

    My 2 cents.

At this point I don't care if this ode to everything vile runs. As always she is a penny dreadful diversion with her stupid tweets, idiotic Facebook meanderings and trailer trash life. The GOP will get to destroy her and she will still make money after the humiliation by doing a runner with SarahPAC money.

She'll announce and she'll wait until later to do it; to go all rogue and mix things up don't cha know also too.

Anonbot at 6:54 asks, How is her family screwed up? Well, let's see:

Track: fathered by boyfriend Curtis rather than Todd: arrested for vandalism and theft; alcohol and drug abuse problems; never attended college

Bristol: pregnant at least three times before the age of 20; two failed engagements; drug and alcohol abuse problems, foul mouthed high school dropout handed diploma only because of mother's influence; never attended college

Willow: arrested for house breaking and vandalism; drug and alcohol abuse problems; demonstrated foul mouth and failing badly in school

Piper: serious school truancy issues, self-proclaimed trouble keeping up in school

Trig: grandson adopted and passed off as her son

Husband Todd: probably bisexual, frequents prostitutes, seduces women in need into prostitution and gifts her as favor to political stooges.

    There; answer your question?

Look at the FIve Browns: they seemed oh so happy and close. Yet look at what was going on behind the scenes there. Moral: appearances are deceptive. Kids smiling in a photo doesn't mean they're happy and healthy.

I recall reading that she is going to make an announcement in April on that radio show she, Bristol and Piper have been on. Mark and someone??? Help me out here, G. Anyway, I think she really would like to run just because of her ego but reality will force her to end up saying that the timing isn't right (just to string along future possibilities that won't materialize) and that she would better serve the American people by NOT running ('cause she's just that kind of gal, yu know, always thinking about the other guy more than herself and, in this case, she would be right).

  30. I still think she really wants to run, for that money-making title of former presidential candidate. But with what's been going on in her world, and those emails just about ready to come out, as well as her plummeting poll numbers, I suspect that most of her advisors are telling her not to run. I don't think President Obama's campaign would be viewed as lacking in the least for not exposing a woman who faked a pregnancy. Who would conceive of doing it? It's completely insane that a person would fake a pregnancy while holding a public position such as governor.

Which is why Sarah Palin would do it. And which is why I think McCain and everyone else will do a total face palm for the cameras if it's fully exposed.

It will take a media willing to be take the arrows to expose it because it's such an ugly revelation. A pregnancy so fake her tubes were tied years before? Just ugly.

Who is kidding who? Sarah Palin has no intentions of running for president. All she wanted to see is her name in the news. If she thought being governor of a tiny populated state was hard and too much work which forced her to quit, she does not have a clue what a president does (or a mayor).

It is better for Sarah to stay in the cheap nose bleed section of life instead of wandering around on the playing field where the real work is being done. How's the view and air in the cheap seats Sarah? It is much easier to make comments about the tremendous work educated people are doing. You just keep paying those advisors to tell you what to say and to write for ya on face book.

@6:54, I don't even need to get into rumors to refute your claim.

Sarah Palin has 5 children (sure she does). Of them, the eldest son seemingly does not work, seemingly has no intention of pursuing a college education, has demonstrated on his mother's reality TV show that he is lazy and borderline disrespectful to his parents. Her eldest daughter had a son out of wedlock and does not seem to have any interest in going to college. Her teenage daughter is petulant and disrespectful (see Sarah Palin's Alaska, TLC). Her youngest daughter wears makeup and has highlights in her hair and looked sullen and miserable on the book tour for America by Heart (when she should have been in school).

This is not a mother who is taking any trouble to raise her children to be successful, happy adults. She can't run her own family, why would she be able to run a country?

I don't know, Jon Stewart's review of the Republican field actually seemed pretty accurate to me. None of them stand out as particularly strong candidates. If they split the field, Palin could squeak in because she has the name recognition and "it" factor. I am afraid if economic and social factors (e.g the unemployment rate and what appears to be to acceptance of hateful rhetoric and religious fanaticism on the right) don't change, she might have a chance to beat Obama, too. I HOPE I am just being overly pessimistic in looking forward though.

I do wonder if Fox outright asked her about running. Maybe they told her not to run. The woman has far more chutzpah than brains though, and it wouldn't surprise me for her to run anyway, convinced she can avoid any real scrutiny this time as well.

I'm about 70% "she won't" at this point. The argument that she will is convincing, but I just don't see how she could handle the scrutiny and keep up the lying front through the whole process. It is not Palin's nature to speak truthfully to maintain the income them later lie claiming she had not wanted to run and others are to blame BS. Even if she signed a pledge to Fox her signature is as worthless as her words.

The only thing I am certain of is she will actively deceive, manipulate people, backstabbing , lay false blame and con to get as much as she can before screwing people over then screech she is the victim when called out.

Well Anom 6:54AM or Sarah, which ever you prefer, you can't run for president, not possible. You are too busy keeping your kids and husband out of jail and you are too thin skinned. Plus who gonna keep you from being impeached or talk to you about not quitting before your first year is over?

I'm sure your advisors recommend against running for POTUS since you will not have your personally hand picked Alaskan Ethics Board to overlook your misdeeds and violations in Washington DC. Keep in mind Sarah, your unqualified friends just can’t apply for jobs with only "I’m getting my GED” or “I'm Sarah Palin's BFF from Wasilla” as their only qualifications for jobs that require intelligence, education and previous work experience. In other words “Liking cows” as a kid will not get your friends the Secretary of Agriculture job.

Sarah, I’m not a high priced advisor, so I will give you some free advice. I seriously recommend that you stay in Wasilla and try to keep your other girls from getting pregnant before they get their GEDs and someday they too can be Miss Alaska Runner-UP, get pregnant, get married, become mayor (in that order) and hire a town manager to run the town for them too. One more thing Sarah, I would highly advise your other children against using the same chin doctor Bristol used , well at least not before they turn 18 and maybe make it a 1/4 of her total length.

No, as much as SHE thinks it's HER destiny - I don't see it 2012.

I don't think she can(pay)muster enough experienced campaign staff to be the "fall guy".She won't follow "tried & true" campaign methods - she lacks political
"commonsense" by alienating over 50% of the voters with her "my way or highway" - lacks learning skills & basic fundamentals of the world, and will "go rogue" the first time someone diss's her.

These campaign managers are professionals - this is their living. They don't want to be under a bus with "Palin Campaign" on their resume.

Am thinking if she throws her supporters to the "winning candidate" she'll get an office appointment to boost her creds. Cheerleader for one candidate & take down for other GOP's (depending on who pays her).

well i have news for you all, "they" know everything we know and more about palin.
she is and always was on a leash and as more does make its way into the main about her bizarre life the more people run away from her.

she is allowed to make money and keep the crazies in line for the republicans but she can be brought down in a second.
remember all it would take to do away with palin would be for fox news to turn on her and they will if she ever stops towing the line.

so, palin will be around for a long time speaking to her band of crazies and no matter what comes out about her, that small support will alway stay with her.

she had 2 years to convince people unfiltered and she only managed to turn people off.

on a scale of 1-10 how bizarre is palin?
    right!!

I read something the other day about Sarah running that seems true.

Palin thinks she has been "chosen" by God and sees herself as Esther. No amount of negative polling or press will stop her from running because she is the "chosen" one and she has to do it for God--in her mind.

Well, she can't run a the anti-candidate until somebody else formally announces, right? None of the unofficial republican candidates wants to be the first one out there, I guess. At this point in 2007, at least a few announcements had already been made. Clinton, Obama, Romney, any others? Alan Keyes?

I think Ailes cut loose the two that Ailes thinks can go out and successfully raise money and staffs and mount real campaigns.

He is holding back the two he thinks will best help his ratings but knows are too controversial to stand on their own for over a year of campaign level scrutiny.

In other words Ailes is consciously trying to pick the Republican candidate for President.

It is also possible he is cutting loose the two least controversial knowing that early declarers often are so denigrated their fellow R's that they eventually fall out of the race, that leave Ailes with two tea baggers to throw into the ring who have been able to use Ailes/Fox to kill Newt and Rick with the death of a thousand slurs, and feted piles of Sarah snark. Fox can then produce the TeePeer's candidates and take the nomination.

If something like that is the plan, remember that Sarah has been saying she will run if asked. Republicans have a tendency to let their master's plains slip, and Sarah may be doing just that as she snarks and hints.

Now she is a failure at both.

If she doesn't run, she'll serve the same purpose in the next election as she served in the last, spewing hate and riling up the non-thinkers. She'll spout off on command about any "Democrat" idea, collect her paycheck from Fox, and slither back under her rock until her handlers need her again.

She said she could do more for Alaska without a title, right? She'll say the same thing about the Presidency. That way, in her warped mind, she wins.

The scarier thought is that she runs for President, wins the election, then becomes, ummmm, disabled, and we're stuck with whatever buffoon the Republicans have carefully hidden behind her too-short skirts.

Also, she makes tons more $$$ as a grifter, than she would as president. The fact that she has not yet announced that she is NOT running, just goes to prove how much of a grifter she is. She loves the attention and the $$$ she makes while "teasing" everyone with "I will if no one else does" etc., etc.

Falsely representing herself. She's asked about issues she knows nothing about! Her none answers are accepted by media! She's been given credibility where there is none! Well, it's how she makes money! My observation has been that Sarah has only to appear to be interested in a politcal office, someone will ask her if she wants it and /or give it to her!

Sarah will wait to last minute, then say since her family is young, she has decided to wait until 2016 to run for President.

This way she keeps her bots giving their food money to SarahPAC and still gets to collect all her money from Fox, speeches and TV shows.

But what Lawrence O'Donnell doesn't understand is that Sarah believes that becoming President of the United States is God's destiny for her.

I mean, God intervened when she probably would have said good things about Newt Gingrich, by having her blow off yet another speaking engagement and thus becoming backstabbed by Newt when he agreed to take her place, allowing her to see Newt's true colors. And God knew that she didn't have a thing to wear anyway, and that's why he intervened also too.

God wants Sarah to be POTUS, and he wants her to be a well dressed multi-tasking hockey mom POTUS, and it doesn't matter what any stinking poll says about it. God will fix it all and open that door for her on election day.

With SP its all about the attention and the money and nothing more.

That photo you ran of Palin yesterday - showed a very 'aged' woman that appeared thinner and more tired. She looked like hell! She has gone through some tough stuff (her own making) that has come out about her and her family in ecent months and it is showing on her.

I don't think she could handle the stress of another campaign...more dirt will be dug up...she is not smart enough...would have to do interviews with the horrible media she hates....could not raise the money needed (the Republican party would not back her)...and, she doesn't have the organizational or hardwork skills required for a campaign. Plus, she has a bad marriage and Todd isn't much to be seen these days - a coordinated effort between the two would be hard to pull off. And, I'll wager they would dig more stuff up about him that is not pleasant.

    I don't think she'll run!

Huckabee said “If there was any shred of truth to it, Hillary Clinton and her wonderful investigative opposition (research) machine would have found it and would have used it,” on ABC’s “Good Morning America”
I believe her Republican opponents have already started investigating her, have dirt already and are holding it in case she makes her move. I also think they will approach her privately about what information they have, but that crazy woman will play the victim and attempt to ride out the storm. She will pull the Republican party apart, the damage she will inflict will take 10 years to fix.

Sarah Palin's so narcissistic that, of course, she will run.

    From Sarah Jones at http://www.politicususa.com/en/freedom-threatened-mccarthyesque-narcissism

...We do, of course, have endless proof of Sarah Palin’s pathological lying, lack of remorse (blood libel), lack of empathy, and failure to accept responsibility for her own actions. I’d say she rules the pack of modern day Republican leaders in the pathological lying category, although they seem to be in competition for who can be the most outrageous in their attempts to deny reality and culpability.

...Lutus describes the narcissist’s hunt for “the day when their actions will be beyond criticism.” This reminds us of Sarah Palin’s desire to be President so her “Department of Law” can hunt down anyone who says mean things about her and shut them up, a wish that clearly demonstrates why malignant narcissists have no place in any sort of governmental power.

...The Arizona massacre...Would you not feel remorse if you had placed crosshairs over someone who was later gunned down? A normal person who doesn’t suffer from malignant narcissism would feel regret for their tone if nothing else.

But we heard nothing of regret from Sarah Palin. Instead, she gave us six minutes of self-pity that anyone would dare to blame her for the actions of a “mad man”.

Well, I definitely don't think she's serious about running for the presidency. I can definitely see her making a fake run, though, to wring out a few more dollars from her gullible supporters.

But this move by Fox by and of itself isn't saying much. I'm surprised they even suspended Gingrich and Santorum. Fox doesn't normally follow the rules everyone else does. There must be something up their sleeve.

  86. It's Koch Brothers vs. Karl Rove. Whichever of these GOP power brokers wins the heart of the electorate will have their candidate of choice win the primary.

If the Kochs get behind Palin they will use any dirty trick in the book to get her the nod; you gotta admit, she's an empty head waiting for a brain and just like Rove those guys are looking to their own "W" moment so that they too can have a shot at running the country, with their brains in Palin's empty head.

Perhaps the only reason Palin hasn't been invited to enter the primary is because she has not shown signs of allowing herself to be restrained. Even with her new Chief of Staff in charge, she's still "going rogue" what with this latest emotional tweet. The Kochs are not going to put their brain into someone that will not follow their rules 100% of the time, with no exceptions, and I don't think that Palin's ego will allow her to submit totally to the kingmakers even if it would be in her career's best interest.

I don't think it is up to her to "decide" to enter the primary, I think if she is deemed worthy she will be invited. Meanwhile, she keeps raking in the bucks from Fox and her possible benefactors can keep an eye on her behavior and see if she is worthy of grooming. I could be wrong and she could do her "rogue" thing and just announce on her own with nothing more than the support of her fanclub within the electorate, the twenty some percent of the GOP that adore her regardless. That wouldn't be enough to get her the nomination, but it would be consistent with her thumbing her nose at the power brokers and sticking with her fanclub.

Regardless, you can bet it will be good entertainment!

Ailes wants the more powerful Republicans that he wants to win to continue to bask in Fox's spotlight (Palin and Huckabee).

So, folks, we have two possibilities -

    1. SHE RUNS: She announces and stays in the race just long enough to put 'Presidential Candidate' in front of her name. Her ego is fed and she has the possibility of breathing new life into the dangerously shrinking list of speaking engagements. She can quit before the real deep vetting (and hard work) gets started, possibly claiming a family crisis (health problem for Trig would be a likely excuse).

    2. SHE DOESN'T RUN: She waits until the last possible moment before humbly declining the invitation, claiming that her family needs her more than the country. She gets to keep her FOX checks coming in and doesn't take the chance that her cushy FOX job would not be waiting for her after a failed run. She can still stir up hate and hit the campaign trail with the candidate of her choice.

So, basically, it's a question of which one wins:

    Teh Crazy or Teh Greedy

My .02 is that she would do her best if she was somehow "chosen" to be the president. That wouldn't be her doing- it would be god's will. Mother of God and all the blessed saints in heaven preserve us should that happen. She's sure that with Secretary of State Bristol and Federal Reserve Commissioner Todd that they'll git-r-dun. Piper will be able to take over as Press Secretary by 2013. Until then Bristol will fly the finger for Sarah when needed.

Really she is running until she says she is not. Everything done since October 2008 (when it became obvious Mccain-Palin was sinking) has been in effect running for President. No formal declaration, no paperwork and that is they way she and her advisors decided to do this a long time ago.

She'll use the 2012 race to build her power through endorsements and building her voting block. She will wait a long time to officially declare, so as to avoid early losses. All the pleas to run will make her feel powerful and wanted.

Her backers (starting with Franklin Graham) will play the same game. Sarah has the support
of enough religious Republicans that her endorsement could deliver wins in some of closed Republican primaries. This is dependent on who else is running. She can disrupt the Democratic primaries in open primary states by causing Democrats to switch over and vote in the Republican primaries.
The candidates will bow and scrape to win her endorsement.

I predict she will not give a definite answer on the radio show this visit. That minimizes the attacks from fellow Republicans, especially the rightwing religious types. What she will do on the radio show is to continue to tease. The time is not yet right, we are praying, the leftwing attacks on our family continue, our nation is in trouble and so on.

The media are clueless with how to cover this, but millions of her suporters are even more clueless; she has a bot-army. The only question is how many are there. There are probably enough to help wreck a number of the Republican primaries, whether or not she even declares one way or the other if she's running.

If Sarah thinks that god has told her the Republican Party is corrupt, and needs to be destroyed to save it, she will.

She's not running IMO because $arah doesn't believe in working hard and that's what it takes in order to be President and to remain President. Can you imagine her being on call 24/7? Not being able to run out and go shopping whenever she likes? It's not a 9 to 3 job like she did as Governor and even that was a long stretch at the time for her.

I don't think there is anyone with any power like the Koch brothers who will put any money behind her. If they have been following her for two years and I'm sure they have, they know she is uncontrollable. She is not going to listen to anyone. She thinks she knows everything there is to know and that nobody can tell her anything.

As far as 2016 goes, her popularity is already fading much quicker than I expected over the past few months. She can't retain the interest that she has for the last couple of years for another four years. She doesn't have the ability to reach out and attain new fans. She'll never admit to being wrong about anything and that is the only way she could bring anyone new into the fold. I also don't think anybody but the extreme crazies @C4P are going to hang around much longer. They are so friggin' delusional and make excuses for everything she says or does. Anything that comes out of her mouth is considered "presidential" and they are already picking her cabinet members! Of course, if she doesn't run, they fully expect $arah to be chosen as the new Sec. of Energy-LOL! Only someone with an IQ below 90 could picture her as Sec. of Energy due to her 11 mos. as the Chairman of the AO&GC. They will end up institutionalized if she doesn't run since they have taken to calling her Madame President as if it's a done deal.
