Very interesting interview with Andrew Sullivan courtesy of Harvard Magazine.

No holds barred interview which, while revealing all of the positive aspects of Sullivan's reporting, does not attempt to whitewash any of his numerous missteps.

My favorite part (Of course):

ANDREW SULLIVAN DID NOT SUPPORT John McCain in 2008. The torture flip-flop would have been enough of a reason. Then McCain added Sarah Palin to the ticket. The combination of her scant government experience and “raw political talent” terrified Sullivan—and with only two months between her nomination and the election, he started hammering.

“I was told: ‘Don’t touch this, it will hurt your reputation,’” he says. During a campaign when most pundits were, at worst, quizzical about Palin, Sullivan filled his blog with questions she was never going to answer. Did he pay a price? “I have become more of an outlaw in this town because I couldn’t hide my amazement from my peers—I’ve definitely become more alienated from mainstream media.”

Since the election, Sullivan has continued to press for clarification about a rumor the mainstream media won’t touch: that Trig is not Palin’s son. Sullivan hasn’t flung any accusations at Palin; he’s just pounded her ever-changing stories about Trig’s birth, and her unwillingness to provide a birth certificate for him. In the heated conversation that surrounds all things Palin, nuance has been lost—and Sullivan has been cast as a crank who takes pleasure in badgering a woman who may have no political future. His response: “Early on, I figured out that anything I write about her can only help her, but I don’t care about that. The job of a journalist is to find the truth.”

"The job of a journalist is to find the truth." You know if there is one thing that television talking heads, newspaper and magazine reporters, authors, and even bloggers should all be able to agree on, it is that.

And some of us do.

BTW I was really pleased to read that Sullivan has a "blog cave" just like the one I am currently sitting in while writing this post. Of course I call mine "The Liberal Lair of Loquaciousness."

You can almost hear Sarah Palin reading that and going "Oh please, you arrogant son-of-a-bitch!" Right before she goes off to look up loquaciousness.

... and lair, and arrogant (maybe)... please may she be at the end of her run. We all need some clean, fresh air in the room and our country needs to dismiss all the know-nothings (of which $arah is the queen). When I see her scowling face and hear her voice spewing word salad, I cringe. ENOUGH!!!!!!!!!!!

I admire Sullivan's guts and stamina. As I do yours, Gryphen. It can't have been easy holding to that one statement he posed to Steve Schmidt: Prove it. No one has, but certainly the confusion on one side of this story far outweighs any clarity on the other.

Probability is not my thing, to be sure. But another commenter has weighed in. And I share it here:

  23. I think any report about Bristol and her mother right now (and especially that Bristol finds her mother too conservative?, is a diversion. Something to change our focus. For one thing, Sarah is not conservative, she is just the loud-mouthed spokesperson for some faction of a supposedly Christian conservative party - but she is not really a Christian and she is not really conservative! And now someone wants us to think that Bristol can actually THINK for herself and reject her conservative mother? Won't work.

When I got home and clicked on your website, I wondered if there is a Cliff Notes edition of this woman's deceits. If there is a link to a concise overview, I'd appreciate hearing from anyone who can recommend a primer those who are unfamiliar with this dangerous woman who has ambitions for the Oval Office.

Gryphen.. just ignore this nosense. I think it is a distraction from the Bots.We need their queen to show us her medical records that she is indeed Trig's biological mother. Who cares what Bristol does anyway. She is hired by her mother. She is Sarah's chief of staff.

  41. Last night, Lawrence O'Donnell skewered The Donald. He gave props to Anderson Cooper for trying to nail down Trump's claims that Obama's live birth certificate is "missing." Trump just threw that tidbit out there but would not name his source or how he came by this information. O'Donnell also pointed out that Trump had been rejected when he applied for the very universities that Obama attended.

Sullivan and I would probably disagree about more subjects than we would agree, but damned if he hasn't consistently exhibited far more journalistic integrity when in comes to Palin than nearly everyone else in the MSM. He has been professional and even handed in his treatment of the ignorant bitch, so both Palin and the MSM have nothing to complain about.

I think that the MSM is simply embarrassed of the piss poor job they did vetting Palin when she burst onto the national stage. They were sincerely hoping that she would simply go away and then they would never have to revisit the issue. She not only hasn't gone away, she has continuously injected her venom into every national issue. At some point the MSM will be forced to confront their sloth and Palin's mendacity.

When I see how many people flee the MSM outlets of newspapers and network news in favor of alternate sources, I don't think it has anything to do with changing technology. I think it is simply people voting with their feet, as it were. I think that most informed people are simply sick and tired of the lazy, indolent, stenographer "reporters" who refuse to question, think, or exercise the most rudimentary level of skepticism.

If the MSM wants to change their fortunes, then they should start practicing the kind of journalism that Sullivan has exhibited regarding Palin's less than credible pronouncements. He cries "bullshit" when the other MSM say "oh, that's nice."

Bravo, Sullivan. If we ever cross paths, I'll buy you a round of whatever it is that you're drinking.

Oh, I almost forgot....Fuck you Palin, you ignorant narcissistic bitch.
