"The idea that the birth certificate is the real story, and Osama Bin Laden is the distraction from it, tells you everything you need to know about the people who are really invested in the birth certificate story."
Love, love, love Rachel...

ReplyDeleteOn Gretawire last night, many people were posting comments to the effect that Osama Bin Laden has been dead for years. As evidence, they cited a "funeral" held for him in Egypt, statements allegedly made by Israeli sources, and a claim made by an unnamed American source that he was killed in Afghanistan in 2001.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, some GW commenters were acknowledging that OBL was killed in the raid, but they claimed that Leon Panetta deserves the credit for eliminating Osama, and that Panetta "overruled" the President, who was indecisive and waffling over what to do.
Like Rachel, I feel that our country is becoming something I no longer recognize. The hatred and distrust some people feel toward our President is shocking to me.
They just don't make them any better than those two. It helps to listen to them define the sanity and feel good that you are on the same page. Both are national treasures for this country and could you imagine where we would be without them????
ReplyDeleteMy top choices: Rachel Maddow, Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, Keith Olbermann, Lawrence O'Donnell, Ed Schultz, Fareed Zakaria and Christiane Amanpour.
ReplyDeleteEach has a special voice and power, and together they keep me sane and hopeful. Rachel is tops, though, in presenting serious news in a way that might make you smile but always keeps you on top of details.
@Jude: There have always been racist idiots. Before the Internet, they set around in Klan meetings in sheets. Now, they post on C4P and Gretawire. I don't think they are exponentially more present than before, in terms of percentages. It's just that they feel they can post on the Internet w/out repercussions, so that's where they're vocal: Fox websites, megachurches for "christianists", Koch-funded Tea Parties, KKK meetings & secessionist/militia conclaves.

ZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
These two together is like your favorite dinner party guests of all time. Love them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
ReplyDeleteRachel Maddow is easily the smartest person on TV. She is brilliant, she does her homework, and she won't let anybody evade or dodge a question. She is relentless and has just enough skepticism to make her dig for the truth.
ReplyDeleteCompare and contrast Maddow with anybody in the FauxNews lineup.
QED.
I very much like Rachel Maddow but she's so one-sided at times. I just hate those rare times when I have to turn her off. I wish she's put more effort into toning down her liberal bias and just report her analyses straight down the middle. She needs to work on giving more consideration to all sides. She's very good but could be absolutely brilliant.
ReplyDeleteThat's what I long for: Well researched stories with no obvious bias one way or the other. Seems like a lost art on the networks and especially on cable. Guess I'm just an old fart reminiscing about Walter Cronkite.
8:45 am - thanks for naming my favorites for me.
ReplyDeleteThanks Rachel for all the digging and fact finding you do - you are our educator and reminder of facts from the past that are so key today, lest we forget what has gone before.
Lawrence O'Donnell is relentless in showing up the ignorance of folks who come on his show.
So little integrity and communication left in the media world - so we desperately need to take good care of your list, 8:45am.
Rachel is a national treasure. Shes smart, clever, affable, resolute with the facts, quick witted, she's got all her ducks in a row, and when she makes a mistake, she's quick to bring it to the surface, correct it, and apologize if need be. She's got a passionate heart and is a natural beauty. And she has some terriffic drink recipes! What's not to love?
ReplyDeleteGVS, ha ha ha ha ha. Sarah Palin, idiot.
