Student who offered to debate Michele Bachmann subjected to online threats.

Courtesy of Kare 11 in Minneapolis:

A New Jersey teenager says she's received threats since challenging U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann to a debate over the Constitution.

Ann Myers challenged the tea party favorite in a letter dated April 29. After it started getting media attention last weekend, commenters on tea party websites have threatened to publish her home address and some have threatened violence.

The 16-year-old from Cherry Hill says several commenters have called her a "whore."

Her father, Wayne, says he's concerned for his daughter's safety.

But Cherry Hill Police Lt. William Kushina says anonymous online threats like these are usually empty.

Myers says the Minnesota congresswoman misstates or distorts facts about the Constitution.

Bachmann's office told The Courier-Post of Cherry Hill that it won't respond to the debate challenge.

What in the hell is wrong with these people?  This is a child for fuck's sake!

This is EXACTLY the same kind of blowback that anybody who dares speak out about Sarah Palin, or tell some carefully hidden truth about her, is subjected to as well.

Well I for one an sick and tired of the bullying and intimidation tactics used by these assholes!

And what are they so angry about?  The fact that they KNOW this child would destroy their idol in a simple debate>

So rather than have to admit they are supporting an empty headed moron, they attack a little girl.  Very impressive. And sadly enough, not at all unexpected.

Courtesy of the great love machine know as MB supporters. These people are below contempt and yet they make up the majority of the MN sixth district and a lot of the rest of the once lovely and democratic leaning state. Let's hear it for the radical Christian right and their leaders, big business people who play on their fears and biases while the continue to steal these sheep blind

It is very telling that the young people are willing to speak the truth about Palin/Bachmann et al, yet many in the MSM continue to cover their fluff, like real news. Our elected officials should have a basic knowledge of our history and constitution, if they are going to use these as their benchmark on everything.

The Tea Party is full of very nasty people. The police department is so wrong for writing this threat off. If people are crazy enough to threaten they are crazy enough to go through with it. This is the kind of people who support Sarah. A bunch of people so dumb to threaten a sixteen year old. A bunch of trash. This young girl is smarter than the whole Tea Party.

If you look at the tea party in general, and the females representing them in particular, they are nothing but a bunch of maturity and cognitively disabled school yard bullies. Palin, Bachmann, O'Donnel, etc.

If this isn't stopped now, it will be our future.

Threatening children. How very bold and brave and patriotic of them.

Not at all unexpected, but very sad. But what to do? I certainly wouldn't want to expose *my* kid to danger if I was her parent. But on the other hand, these are the tactics these f**kwads use to silence us.

Wouldn't it be so nice and so"Christian" of Batshit Bachmann to address this in public, in the media, in emails, etc. and tell her nut job followers to stop it? I can just hear her response a la Willie Wonka(the original), in very quiet, weak voice, "Stop. Don't."

MB is not smart enough to call the morons out who are threatening this young woman. No different than the grifter, although at least she's not accusing the young woman of blood libel. Maybe she's not going to bother until the 22nd. Why spend the energy if she's going to get raptured today? Five hours and counting. Do we all go at exactly six or is that simply when it starts? How long will it take from there? I really should read up on this. I do know I'm heading down to the local evangelical church about five and scope out the cars in the parking lot. Then I want to be the first one in so I can clean wallets and find the keys to the black Lexus SUV I've seen there. Probably the ministers.

How about this scenario: instead of Bachmann, suppose this young lady had challenged President Obama to the same debate ? I bet he would invite her and her family to the White House, and gladly sit down with her in front of the media, and the debate would be something that would lighten your heart and bring tears to your eyes.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Anonymous11:23 AM

9:30 - it would be nice if you were at least vaguely acquainted with the facts. To say that our President had no professional accomplishments is to admit that you are willfully ignorant just like Palin and Bachmann.

What does it take to convince you that a black man is "professionally successful.? You shame yourself.

    ReplyDelete
  40. President Obama had no significant accomplishments before becoming POTUS?
How many of these things have you accomplished:
    *successful community organizer
*editor of the Harvard Law Review
*graduated magna cum laude from Harvard Law School
    *Illinois state legislator
    *U.S. Senator

Better still, how many of these have leaders in the GOP like Boehner, Palin, or Bachmann accomplished?

Since the answer for you and them is none, I'll just chalk your animosity toward President Obama up to two things: jealousy and having your little world shaken to the core at knowing that there most definitely are very accomplished blacks in America. I know this because I, like President Obama, am one of them. The lesson to be learned by those like yourself is to not pay too much attention to the lies that are being told and pushed about people of color, gays, atheists, Muslims, Buddhists, and others. Reality is different than what you've been led to believe--we're not all godless monsters, ignorant, or perverts who want your body or want to corrupt your kids!

    OT: http://malialitman.wordpress.com/2011/05/21/5-or-6-things-you-didnt-know-about-britta-hanson/

Well, of course it's no surprise that more will be known about this couple as time goes by. I found the most interesting of the original 5 things is that she was an "executive secretary" in the governor's office since age 18. I don't know about in Alaska, but around here those jobs pay big $ and require training, experience and are highly competitive, not given to 18-year-old HS grads.

So Sarah really was a typical politician, no different than all the others that practice cronyism and favoritism. Not very roguish. What does Sarah have to say about that? I say it's "disgusting".

There was no liberal violence in Wisconsin. If there was, it would have been all over the news. The right-wing tried their best to find "liberal violence" in Wisconsin, but could only make up shit. Like that fake video of liberal violence in Wisconsin, with palm trees in the background.

Conservatives all over this country are suckers! Only 30 Tea Party clowns showed up at a rally in South Carolina. Losers.

Barack Obama has lots of professional accomplishments prior to the election. You refuse to acknowlege them. What accomplishments did $arah Palin have going into the election? She went to five, or six colleges, and happens to be a moron. She has so few professional accomplishments, she had to embelish her resume. Like the crap about her having foreign policy expirience, because she could see Russia from Alaska. How stupid. Now, she's a quitter!

As usual, conservative thugs, like you always justify violence. Just because this country was founded on genocide, doesn't make it right. Funny you should say that, condering a lot of people (including myself) don't see any difference between Libertarians republicans, and the Tea party. The fact that you had to throw this in:

"I'm a libertarian. Not a social conservative, not a republican, not a RINO, not in any way connected to the tea party."

Proves my point. You sound very similar to a republican. People of all stripes bitch and moan, and point fingers at each. People do that in the privacy of their own homes. It needs no party affiliation. It's a human trait. But, liberal democrats, and conservative republicans couldn't be more different policy-wise.

I wish Libertarians would stop pretending they are above the fray, and better than everyone else, because your're not. Please get off your high-horse. Most Americans also diagree with Libertarian views, because for the most part, they are considered extreme, and out of the mainstream. Which is why Ron Paul in un-electable, and will have another failed presidential campaign.

  66. I am pretty sure this young lady and her parents will be reading your blog. So, my message to them is be careful, but don't let them shut you up. Whenever idiots and bullies complain or threaten it means you are doing something right. Your message got out and they have no rebuttal to their candidate who is an idiot being challenged by a high school student on the Constitution. Bullies know they are incompetent that is why they seek to make incomptence the norm. They are threatened by those who have knowledge and competence, but don't have the skills to go toe to toe so they threaten and intimidate. All of your positive traits make them hate you because you are what they can never be. They seek to destroy your soul and leave you a shell of your former self. Rather than become quiet, speak louder. The reason they don't have the information and skills you do is they have another agenda than the one they are supposed to be doing. Rather than design laws for the majority they are pushing their religion which Bachman would know, if she understood the Constitution, is un-American. These people are cowards and our country seems to have a lot of them these days. Having courage as I have found out is a valuable strength because you keep going even when you are afraid.

Are these TP threats coming from the same types that would kill someone to save a fetus? Yes. Racist, religious extremists who no doubt are a bit afraid of what this young girl would do to their candidate- show her for the fool she is.

Guess David lettermans joke doesnt sound so bad. Why isn't palin talking out against the violence toward this young lady and why isn't Michelle bachman?

And these were real threats not like the ones Sarah palin made up about people raping her daughters.

They all are empty-headed and you betcha' that they're Sovereigns. you know they're above man's law and only follow God's law. None of them pay taxes, believe that they can kill police and judges or anyone that they want to kill. They're white supremacists too! They are all a bunch of nut-cases! They're made up of sociopaths, hoodlums, and they are all evildoers. They are wolves in sheep's clothing and they're hearts are hardened.

  73. Bachman is pandering to the same people that Palin is courting. Another young lady who is interested in politics finds herself in the right's crosshairs. Rather than embrace her and encourage her, Bachman's followers threaten her. Aren't they just lovely Christians?

Haven't read the comments, but saw what you posted and thought of this:

Works with a number of politicians, also, too.

  76. Hard to believe but Michelle Bachmann is older than Palin.

    Michelle Bachmann born 04-06-56

    Sarah born 02-11-64

Sarah looks 15 years older than Bachmann!

I've been on the Internet from its beginnings and seen trolls and threats and trash talk ever since. But I DO blame Sarah Palin for encouraging and condoning such online behavior by practicing what she preaches: rudeness, lack of constraint, gross exaggeration, taunting and bold-faced lying. As a public figure, she's been a role model who has not only deconstructed civility but also, too, has damaged the image of women and the transparency of politics. Jeanne Devon's recent article describing Palin as a creature of opportunism is spot on. Jeez, Louise!

  78. Gryph,

    2 OT items:

    1) POTUS is leaving tomorrow for trip to Europe. Here's an article that the Daily Mail UK published last month on Moneygall Ireland sprucing up for visit from the Obamas. (the comments are annoying but the article is nice)

    2) Speculation is running amok that the Sarah has bought a 6-bedroom house in Scotsdale:

To anon 3:39, you literally just claimed trash talk and internet bashing began when Sarah took national prominence. You areinsane and demented. sarah is not the cause of peoples outward racism. Though I will say the racists (a minority) are the least of obamas critics. People distrust him because he's not trustworthy. You'd realize that if you would pull your head out of palins ass long enough to learn. You turn away from democrats wrongs and immoral activity and choose to demean EVERY vocal conservative, desperately looking for any dirt that makes a person human

Biden got a huge pass when he locked a reporter in a closet at a fundraiser. Obama got a pass when he forgot Mitch Ms name, even after thinking for seconds trying to recall it. the media is in the lefts pocket. So who cares if ailes and murdoch defends palin. Everyone else failed to vet the current president and let america know how truly radical and unaccomplished he is. So don't give me the "sarah is worthless" meme. The two are identical politicians.

Why are they scared of this young girl? Is she that threatening?

Of course not. But they are dumbasses who would rather cause harm than face the truth. michele and her fan club is just as ignorant as the rest of the repubaggers.

    They can go to hell.

Craig, I don't agree nor disagree with you,There are douchebags on boths sides, being a liberatarian is just an excuse to not be labled a douchebage. The tea party was the best thing that happened for Democrats, Liberals, and Libertarians.

Where were YOU when the photo of Sarah Palin was on this blog next to another child, Christina Green, she needed defending in the worst way? Was it because she was a child or because she was a Democrat?
Did you READ the post? An innocent child is getting threats because she would like a civil debate on the constitution with an elected Congresswoman who can't or won't get her facts straight.

Sarah Palin explained to "Justin", a third grader, what a Vice President's Job was, and she bald faced lied to the kid. Was that ok because she was a Republican?

Is this the example we want politicians to set for the next generation of voters?

If I were a member or supporter of the Tea Party, I'd be furious that these are the people putting a public face on my movement. Um, wasn't the Constitution designed to give people the right to free speech without having to worry about these kinds of repercussions?!

I wouldn't be surprised at all if these nut cases threatening the teenager are actually C4Pers posing as Bachmann's crazies.

Bachmann, as wide-eyed and crazy as she acts on behalf of her T-Baggers, actually has a real job, serving a constituency of real live human beings, albeit a very conservative majority, in her district in Minnehaha.

On the other hand, Palin serves herself only with the blind support of her cult of flying monkeys. These Sea of Pee die-hards live vicariously thru their card-board- cut-out leader. There's no there there in the Quitter's case, but no one can tell the monkeys what should be obvious. Come Nov-2012, there will be some very disappointed and disillusioned folks wondering what happened and why are they broke but their their queen is living large. So sad.

I wonder how many of them will vote for Mitt in the general election.

General comment to coward whining that the parents of the young lady "put their daughter up to challenging Bachmann to a debate". Kudos to the parents for encouraging their daughter to practice civil debate on a serious subject! My son, who's a year younger than the teenage-girl, has two books for his summer reading prep for his AP American History Class, The Federalist Papers and Alex de Toqueville's Democracy in America. So when he's 16 next year, I hope he, too, will be keen to recognize and forthright to challenge the ignorance and misinformation being spewed by those revisionists posing as historians and constitutional scholars.

Just yesterday, we were in the car driving and I had on talk radio, listening to Hannity. My son asked me if I believed what what Hannity was crowing about. I told him that I don't listen to hi, because I agree with all or even most he says, but I try to listen to see what he has to offer that might change the way I look at a particular issue. My son rolled his eyes and said that Hannity was offering his opinion as though it were an accepted fact, and that the only part that was actually true was that it was the man's opinion. He told me that anyone that used any amount of critical thinking could pick Hannity's argument apart. I just smiled and told him not to change the radio when he drives one of our vehicles.
