From OpEd News:
Despite the title of the book, to his credit as a journalist, it must be said that this author tried vainly to give a balanced picture of Mrs. Palin's life and professional resume. However, it seemed that at every turn no matter how hard he tried, the facts of her life kept conspiring against a balanced view of her. On the good side of the ledger, he dutifully reported the reasons why the conservative kingmakers were all gushing over her. At first only the friendly conservative media were doing so, but then later on, the "big dog" powerbrokers inside the Republican Party took up the cause and eventually convinced John McCain that she was an "ideological rock star" worthy of being on the Republican ticket.
As the author repeatedly notes, at first glance and on paper, Palin "shows well," and did indeed seem to reflect the quintessential conservative tribal qualifications: a hockey mom who lived on a lake, ice fished, was a snowmobiler, a lily white beauty queen, who had helped her High School win the State basketball championship -- with roots in Idaho, and who was also tough and gutsy. Moreover, it was well known that she was rabidly pro-gun, pro-life, religiously fundamental, and a proponent of American exceptionalism. Along with this stellar conservative ideological resume, it did not hurt her cause at all that she was also (almost predictably) anti-gay, anti-tax, anti-black, and (even in Alaska) anti-Native American. In short, Mrs. Palin viewed herself (and was viewed by others, especially the conservative Republican powers that be) as coming from a different kind of America: the white sub-tribe of "real" Americans.
After a "quick and dirty" vetting process (that would later prove to have been disastrous), Palin was certified as "Grade A" republican material, prancing with the Republican "big dogs on the national stage as John McCain's Vice Presidential candidate. As it turns out, this would be the end of the good news in the book of Sarah Heath Palin. As McCain and others on the national scene would abruptly find out, Ms. Palin was a lot less than meets the eye. In due course, they would discover that she was a lying and deceiving politician as well as a vengeful and hypocritical human being and very much un-Christian like in her behavior -- a fact well known to Alaskans who had dealt with her well before Ms. Palin made her national debut.
This review is DEFINITELY worth the read, in fact it was so good it almost made me want to go back and read Geoffrey's wonderful book again. And you know, I JUST now finished Bailey's book so you would think I needed a break.
I am very glad to see my friend getting some more attention. In my opinion his book deserves to be read by EVERYONE with any interest in politics, Sarah Palin, or how the Republican party chooses their candidates.
a perfect review of a well written book. thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI am so glad you posted part of this excellent review!
ReplyDeleteWell said, excellent review. I read Dunn's book on my Kindle and have wondered so many times why it isn't being promoted in the media as Bailey's book has been.
ReplyDeleteTo me, an investigative reporter writing a well-researched book has more credibility than a disillusioned, disgruntled Palin staffer.
I agree, Dunn's book is excellent. I just finished Bailey's as well, and while fascinating, I found it a rugged ride. So difficult to believe that anyone could be that gullible, willing to risk everything for her, when he had every indication that she is an evil person and an unproductive politician from quite early on. I found it fascinating that she is always in campaign mode. Always.
ReplyDeleteThis is a zinger from the article:
ReplyDeleteIn order to get at what shaped Sarah's personality, the author takes us back to her childhood where the genesis of the horror show that engulfed and was to nearly overtake the McCain campaign, began. And what we discovered is that from the Eighth Grade onwards, the facts on the ground from Alaska, painted a disturbing picture of young Sarah as a person driven by her insecurities, insecurities centered mostly on her inability to compete with her peers on an equal footing for boys (even though she was considered pretty), academically (even no one claims that she was dumb), and in sports (even though her father was a coach). As a result, those who knew her best thought she was just restless and unhappy with the general landscape of her young life. Later in life, others who worked with her, did not mince words when describing her: as the "town liar," a sociopath, a deeply disturbed individual whose grip on reality was weak and whose self-awareness was nil. Or, as one described her as being "bat sh-t" crazy living in a fantasy world of her own, and as someone who suffered from a "narcissistic personality disorder."
In order to compensate for her inadequacies, the author tells us that Palin learned at a young age how to become a "glory hound" using her good looks to "bully" her way into a leadership role among her close friends. Once there, she became the very archetype of the "entitled spoiled brat as pack leader." Palin proved adept at using her good looks and charisma to manipulate her clique of close friends into doing her dirty work (as some Alaskans claimed she also succeeded in doing with John McCain on the national stage).

Welcome-to-Kingdom-Palin--by-Herbert-Calhoun-110620-388.html
WOW! This is so right on!
ReplyDelete'This pre-teen psychological stratagem, of being a dysfunctional clique leader, would follow her well into adult life. The "Sarah treatment" even as an adult, would still be characterized by the familiar suite of Junior High School small-minded tricks: cliquishness, underhandedness, deceitfulness, lies, rumors, social exclusion and isolation to punish those she didn't like, petty fights "staged" over peripheral issues, and generally constantly kicking up dust and chaos through small-minded spats to keep attention always focused only on her.
Learning to manipulate others into doing her bidding was a prepubescent survival strategy that Sarah learned well and was one to follow her into adult political life. In fact, the author leaves the reader with the impression that the ability to manipulate others may have so distorted Palin's personality that even today she remains unhappy and "pouts" when the focus is not constantly on her and unless she is seen as the "Queen Bee and Drama Queen" of any clique she is a part of.
And while this may have been a useful strategy in Junior High School, when she allows it to follow her into adulthood, it becomes what Psychologists term "arrested development." Judging by the disruption she caused within the McCain campaign, Ms. Palin's juvenile shenanigans were a textbook case of "arrested development." Sarah Palin remains trapped in the self-made fantasy world of the Eighth grade where she still sees the world through the lens of a drama in which she is the designed "drama queen."'
Damn, I'm so excited to read his book!
ReplyDelete'From Geoffery Dunn's analysis Palin's life since the Eighth Grade has been about little more than acquiring enough control over those in her environment so that she can tilt the narrative arc of the dramas of her life in a direction that feeds and suits the needs of her own private insecurities. Those failing to play her games, or who criticize and expose her flaws, are abruptly cut-off and excluded from the Palin inner circle. They become her sworn enemies, and once a sworn enemy of Sarah Heath Palin, you can expect to be obsessively hunted down and destroyed by a "forty something Eighth grader." Armed with "beauty queen" good looks and the manipulative skills of an Eighth grader Sarah Palin set out to conquer the world.'
I read that review earlier today and thought it was very good. Now I want to read the book because it seems to confirm everything I believe about Sarah Palin. I would love some insight into how she became the evil woman she is.
ReplyDeleteI initially chose Frank Bailey's book over The Geoff Dunn's because of the intimate relationship of Bailey to Palin. It was good but I think he tried not to show the truly despicable woman she is. I thought she came off as just extremely immature, vindictive and petty. IMO, he pulled some punches.
I REALLY want to read The Rogue too. I love Joe McGinniss' blog and it's really getting me anxious for the release.
It is worth the read, both of them. He totally nails her, I can almost hear the screeching from here. My guess is you'll be getting a lot of action from the trolls Gryph
ReplyDeleteIn other news. Our First Lady is in Africa and over on HP there is more rage, anger, racist ranting (well disguised of course), bitterness and just plain old horseshit than I've seen in two years. They must have called everyone in to blog, or actually those bloggers are right here in MN, maybe they are flashing talking points on the big screen and their bots are writing as fast as they can. Interestingly the site is not on lockdown meaning the bots are filling up the comments as fast as they can write them. Makes me wonder once again whose side of the fence Ariana resides on - oh I know but she was supposed to be a progressive
I just read this and it is a fun read, but (and I know it IS on a blog), but there are a lot of typos. For instance, Calhoun states that Palin pressured the Wasilla librarian to "burn" books that Palin didin't like. I assume he meant to type "ban", but that kind of error is pretty unfortunate. He also spells Geoffrey Dunn's first name as Jeffrey.
ReplyDeleteWhy do people still refer to her as a beauty queen? She was first in a small town pageant of less than what-- ten contestants? Then she took second in the state pageant to a woman who is. . . I want to say a hundred times smarter, but you can't multiply anything by zero and get anything else but zero. OK, Sarah Palin was beat by a woman who was smart: Maryline Blackburn is smart.
ReplyDeleteMaryline Blackburn is not still referring herself to as a former beauty queen--her credentials are way too long. SP is still not down playing and therefor referring to herself as a former beauty queen. That is so last century!
I read Geoffrey Dunn's book and Frank Bailey's book. Would recommend both. Then I ordered Frank Orr's book Paradigm Shift: the Palin Matrix. Half through it and it's well worth reading. Quite fascinating how he saw things and predicted things that now are proven by the Dunn and Bailey writings or have come true and we witness them ourselves. Got to be honest, the Orr title put me off, but between the covers, it's a good read, thought provoking and satisfying. Which is more than I expect from any book by Bristol or Levi, but I will read them, too. The former, I'll get from the library. I agree with Track's twin set of four word names that he called his sister last summer. She isn't getting a penny of my hard earned money.
ReplyDeleteRUN!! Don't walk to get your copy of Dunn's book...
ReplyDeleteOT - Rick Scott Pulls A "PALIN"
ReplyDeletehttp://www.politicususa.com/en/rick-scott-astroturf
Apparently, Scott/staff are pulling a Palin - having staff right letters for/to the editor that someone only has to sign their name too.
It's obvious that someone from FL hasn't been paying attention to the AK e-mails bringing to light a similar venture.
PMom_GA
Holy shit! That reviewer better prepare for an onslaught of the rabid flying monkeys, he done dissed their queen! Sweet review, 5 stars for Geoffery! Sure wish that more journalists would step up like this guy and tell it like it is, but they are far and few between, dazzled by the bright hot spotlight that is the Wasilla Wonder. This review needs to go far and wide. Talk about ripping off the cover. Brilliant stuff.
ReplyDeleteGET HER OFF THE STAGE!!!
ReplyDelete'And although she has been repeatedly and clearly exposed as a substantive lightweight in all her national interviews, she remains an attractive candidate? In all the interviews I have seen her lack of knowledge and preparation on issues have been a world-class embarrassment: she cannot construct a coherent substantive sentence beyond prepared sound bites and memorized catch phrases. Her discourse comes through as confusing "word salads?" We all witnessed this first hand in her Katie Couric and Charlie Rose interviews. Only two decades ago, she would have been "gonged" off the national stage?'
In a nutshell the Nutcase:
ReplyDelete'However, she may be the first who has put together "a perfect storm" of all of the most dangerous qualities of a demagogue in a single package: she is mean-spirited, inept, vindictive, and lazy, but can play all the emotional chords in the correct keys of the lower octaves of America's divisive undercurrents.'
Now THAT is what I call a spectacular review. Pretty much the exact opposite of that piece of propaganda 'The DEfeated' that's currently being peddled to the grifter's base.
ReplyDeleteThanks for giving this article its own post, Gryphen!
ReplyDelete"In due course, they would discover that she was a lying and deceiving politician as well as a vengeful and hypocritical human being and very much un-Christian like in her behavior"
ReplyDeleteWow, those are very strong words. Is it necessary to be so... hostile and mean towards this simple country bumpkin just trying to make her way in this cruel world and maybe make a buck or three, in the bargain, also, too?
Answer: yes, it is necessary. Would that it not be so, but, in the name of Zeus and all that is holy, yes, it's very, very necessary...
Dunn's book is fantastic. I have finished reading it for the SECOND time. (I didn't want to miss anything).
ReplyDeleteEVERYONE should read it, it's well written, well researched, and most importantly, it TELLS THE TRUTH about SP.
Yeah, I think that just about covers it. (hehe:)
ReplyDeletebtw: Dunn's book WAS excellent.
Bailey's book not so much.
I am looking forward to "The Rogue".
Off topic, but belonging here. All I've known about Andrew Sullivan is what I've read here. Imagine my surprise and delight with this analysis in this week's New Yorker:
ReplyDeletehttp://www.newyorker.com/online/blogs/hendrikhertzberg/2011/06/andrew-sullivan.html
Congratulations on a great review. You deserve it, Mr. Dunn. And WE all need it, to get readers for this sad, important topic. Thx for posting it, Gryphen.
ReplyDeleteI am hoping the two books that are out will reinforce each other's sales, readership, and credibility. And ditto the third to come in Sept. And Prof Scharlott's paper, in case anyone has missed it. --Amy1
It was a very well written book. Much better than the Frank Bailey book. Don't get me wrong, Bailey's story needed telling but it was not so "professional" if you will.
ReplyDeleteI thought that Dunn did a very good job because it wasn't like he was going for her jugular. He was just reporting the story like they used to report the news (and with facts for a change). I think this is good because it is just the facts mam. Easier for the people who love her to not get peed off because he sounds like he is attacking her.
Very very good book and one I am glad I spend my hard earned money on;)
I've read both Dunn's and Bailey's books and in my opinion Dunn's is vastly superior. I couln't put it down. His writing style is extremely engaging and fact based, as opposed to Bailey's book where I found myself being angry the whole time I read the darn thing. The writing in Bailey's book is very choppy, the time lines jump all over the place, there are many typos and grammatical errors--in other words, the ghostwriters are mediocre--and I couldn't shake the uneasy feeling that Bailey withheld a lot of information and is still protecting the grifter for whatever reason. Plus I think he's a very stupid man if he was really sucked in by the barracuda for as long and as much as he alleges. Read Dunn's book! I'm anxiously awaiting Joe McGinniss' book, and I'll read Levi's also.
ReplyDeleteThe author is a cutie!! I bought the book, read and thoroughly enjoyed it! It was well researched, proof sourced and an excellent write. I do encourage everyone to read it.
ReplyDeletePalin is a first class poop as all of us so keenly know in Alaska.
Thank you Geoffrey Dunn!
I think Bailey's book was "designed" in such a way that it would be palatable to the right-wing reader/Christian community. On that score, I think it was done well and needed. (can't preach to the choir only). Joe McGinnis and Levi Johnston's books will reach another demographic... ALL Good - IMHO!
ReplyDeleteLMAO. Who did Sarah have write this crap now that RAM is MIA?
ReplyDeleteGreat BOOK!! I finished it in a few hours and now I wish I was best friends with Bristol!(haha) I'm surprised to hear that her book isn't due out till the 24th since I was able to buy it in Newark Airport a few days ago but anyway it was a great book.
Even if you don't like Sarah Palin, you should still read it because you learn a lot about their lives and come to realize that before the 2008 election, they were completely normal people with normal problems.
Although I always liked the Palin family (I always thought that the way they were treated was beyond ridiculous) but now I can't help but feel bad that this once normal family is now one of America's most polarizing families. While everyone has the right to their own beliefs, America's hate for Sarah Palin and her family is disgusting and because of this I hope Sarah decides to run and wins just as a smack in the face to all those who have trashed her and her family.
http://search.barnesandnoble.com/Not-Afraid-of-Life/Bristol-Palin/e/9780062089373/
I spent a few hours at the Dallas airport yesterday, and went into the book shop. There I found several copies of Dunn's book, right next to several copies of Frank's book. A good sign, I thought. If the books are selling well, booksellers will order them and display them. That seems to be what's happening.
ReplyDeleteTeddy better not hold his breath.
ReplyDeleteSarah you have to run. I've worked so hard watching Sheya build these websites. You owe it to me!

I loved Dunn's book. As a former Alaska resident, whose mother grew up half Native on a homestead in the Mat-Su, I am finding Bailey's book a little too heavy on Alaskan mythology. Dunn grasps Alaska without mythologizing it. I'm surprised that Bailey, who grew up in Alaska (I spent a brutal winter in Kodiak), has embraced the bs mythology about frontiery, tough Alaskans. Yes, they actually exist. Can't find that many in the Mat-Su valley anymore though (my grandfather was one of those). Certainly not in Anchorage. I lived there too, as well as in Juneau. I even spent a little time in Galena (very little, but highly entertaining). I put Bailey's book down because the oh-so-special Alaska thing was bugging me, and I kind of needed a break anyway after Dunn's book.
ReplyDeleteI've lived in many places, both populated and isolated, and all of them have good and bad points. Alaska, and specifically different places in Alaska, has the same good and bad points, its own uniqueness, but it is not some mythological magic land of exceptionalism and frontieryism. I left because of the alcoholism. I have enough of that in my own family that I don't really need to hang out in an alcohol-supportive environment. Anyway, my entire point is that Dunn grasps Alaska, and Sarah, better than most people. Kudos to him. Loved the book.
Maybe a subtitle should be "Stuck in Eighth Grade".

ReplyDeleteHi Brisket!
Hi Sarah Lou!
How's that new mansion working' out for you?
Ladies: Take care of your sons and leave us alone.

ReplyDeleteBefore 2008 they were normal? Are you kidding? Ok, Paid Palin mouthpiece. Try reading the emails. PG, IM and the host of other AK bloggers out there who have been writing about her corruption for years?
It started long ago, easily when she was Mayor and things with her running the town into the ground - oh bother. Just go away with your fairy tales
The reason Dunn's book hits harder than Frank's is those are Franks Balls hanging around Sara's neck on the Undefeated poster. Frank needs to grow a new pair and take another look at what he knows and what he did. Just like going after Gryph, he did most of the dirty work for her and hasn't really come clean about all of it.
ReplyDelete@5:36- bristol's fake book is a bust and so are you, ya boob.
ReplyDeleteHow broke do you think Sarah is?
ReplyDeleteIt is difficult to tell by the way she dresses because she always looks so dowdy. (Those stupid plastic hair thingys she wears are hilarious).
With the money she reportedly pulled in last year alone she should be set for another 10 but this ridiculous desperation pleading for $100 donation sure reads like she is down to her last couple thousand.
Who is creating this?
ReplyDeletehttp://www.organize4palin.com/
I've just started the book and each page is fast paced and well researched.
ReplyDeleteThe historical , religious and geographical contexts not just of Alaska , but, of American politics put a lot of what drives Palin
and her ilk into perspective.
Obviously Dunne will never be a guest on
FOX News , but, he should be on the other talk shows.
Her true story should be told to all Americans
instead of the fairy tale
promulgated by her disciples and right wing innamoratos
like Limbaugh and Breitbart.
Dunne's research and first person interviews
validate what many of us instinctively
felt about her.
She's been devious, disturbed , a pathological liar ,
a bully , untrustworthy and a manipulator her entire life.
Well Dunn, Dunn!
ReplyDeleteI believe Anon at 5:36 was posting something found on Barnes & Noble, not espousing those views him/herself.
ReplyDeleteB-R-A-V-O !
ReplyDeleteA most excellent, and concise review of an extremely well researched and written book!
As a former Barnes and Noble Customer, based soley on their shameless promotion of both of Palin's Ghostwritten books, four stores in my area have YET to give me a credible reason why this book isn't in stock.
Thank You, Geoffrey Dunn! Job well done!
Damn, check this out. You type in the name of a person and it gives you property information based off of rental, lease and owner status.
ReplyDeleteDoes Sarah really own all these properties in Alaska? what about the other states?
http://www.spokeo.com/search?q=sarah%20palin#Anchorage,%20AK
Also wondering. If Sarah Palin gets Sarah Palin trademarked will Sarah Palin from Milton, VT not be allowed to write her own name?
Follow up. I see on Spokeo there are a lot of properties around U.S. listed as being in some way connected to Sarah Palin. However when I did a people search only one other person named Sarah Palin showed up. Is there a way to track the addresses listed as being owned or in relation to Sarah to see if she is the owner?

ReplyDeleteYou aren't fooling anyone. Are you aware people know who you are?
Dunn's is the best Palin book I've read. Someone gave me Bailey's and I look forward to it. I think these two books have different audiences, which makes both important.
ReplyDeleteWill buy Levi's (Team Gnat!) and Fred __'s babygate expose, definitely, but it is McGinniss's for which I can't wait, especially since he said if she hasn't declared for Pres. by the time it comes out, she won't.
I wish Floyd Orr the best of sales with his Palin Matrix. I had trouble on his blog believing in his big picture, but the more I hear, the more it's believable.

ReplyDelete"spot the bot" on this blog. So fun! They try and try but we still spot 'em. You just have to dig deeper little bots. Try a little harder to "slant" the narrative. I don't really think that you are up to it but your efforts are entertaining nonetheless. Thanks Grph for being the first to recognize them and let their posts through for the enjoyment of all.
Dunn's was a great book that gave me the insight of just how mentally ill both Sarah and her Dad are.
ReplyDeleteLies and subterfuge are a part of everything the Palins claim as fact. Like the free throw that "won the championship game" for her hi-school bball team, everything Sarah has ever done has been embellished to the point that anyone who was a direct observer at ANY of her "many accomplishments" just rolls their eyes and shakes their head. The folks who know her best know that if she was a barracuda, she was always a small fish in a very small pond who is a legend only in her own mind. And perhaps her Dad's, because, as his behavior has shown over time, Creepy Chuck is the craziest of the bunch.
It's mighty sad, but these hometown folks understand...that's just how Sarah and her family are.
It's only the willfully ignorant "outsiders" who accept the Palins' self-created mythology that Sarah is something more than she really has proven herself to be:
Sarah is merely an intellectually incurious, deceitful, immensely insecure, narcissistic, small-town girl with lower-than-average intelligence and horrible communications skills.
She was successful only in duping others to gain positions of authority, only to fail horribly in EVERY one of her endeavors, including the most basic job functions of being a good, loyal wife to her husband. But most unforgivable has been her failure to provide a safe, loving, nurturing environment as a mother to her children.
Hidden behind her gobs of makeup, plastic surgeries, and designer glasses is an angry, cross-eyed, middle-aged woman who cannot understand why the public calls her out on her truly-detestable, anti-social behavior.
Her hometown folk are, for the most part, ashamed to have her as a representative of their community. But they do have hope that she will indeed relocate to Arizona as permanently as is practical. But they are sadly aware that she will never leave the area permanently, as long as the state of AK provides the incentives for residence there.
Sarah is mentally ill, but her disgusting behavior is of her own decision to forego treatment, and she deserves every moment of unhappiness she has created for herself. Until she chooses treatment, I hope every moment of her life is filled with anguish and anxiety, for she is truly a despicable excuse of a human being. I say this without hate or any emotion that distracts from objectivity. I do hate her behavior, yes, but I primarily hate the fact that she hurts others with her words and actions.
Sincerely,
Jeff

I have yet to read either book, and I find the comments about them intriguing. What I expect to find is information that is not only much more detailed than what I know of Palin already, but confirmation of the unfavorable opinions about her. She has made several failed attempts to bolster her image, and they failed largely because she has no self-awareness. She's ill-mannered, ill-informed, vindictive, and just plain stupid. What's worse is that no one can tell her anything. She is mentally ill, and totally incapable of any self-reflection.

ReplyDeleteGeoffrey Dunn's book was beautifully written and well worth the money for the read itself. Bailey's book , not so much. I, too, felt he held back and tried to play us a little. I hate to even say that because I'm sure there had to be a consensus of what to write since there were other writers involved. That said there was a vast difference in the quality of the written word.

I appreciate the humor after being so disturbed by the bottom line message of this review. It's just nuts and frightening that Sarah wasn't forced into hiding a long time ago.
I think Palin's days are indeed numbered. The steady drip, drip, drip of unflattering information about her is quickly becoming a continuous stream. I suspect that by the fall we will be dealing with a torrent. At some point, the dam will burst and some bit of glaring cognitive dissonance caused by some tidbit among the legion of Palin lies will catch hold and she will be swept away.
ReplyDeleteIt can't happen soon enough.
I'm steeling myself up to read Bailey's book.

ReplyDeleteBut surely, even she will recognize that a money-making, self-aggrandizing, evangelically-sponsored jaunt in July to the most acutely suffering country on earth would be an unforgivable affront to human decency.
I predict, therefore, that even though she has publicly stated she plans to visit Sudan in July, she’ll cancel the trip.
Surely, she can find another way to enrich herself next month. Even she wouldn’t seek to profit from the blood being shed by the helpless, defenseless and innocent victims of this most horrid of civil wars.

Gasman @8:45 -
ReplyDelete(I'm going to go off-subject for a minute in order to respond to Gasman)...
I believe you'll find Bailey's book to be a rocky read, compared to Dunn's professional smoothness of prose, and continuity of narrative.
As to the typos and horrendous grammar found in Bailey's book: In all fairness, keep in mind that in his disclaimer, he states that he's quoting Palin's emails verbatim. It's shocking, to say the least, that this uneducated fool (and her minions) were trying to "run" the state of Alaska.
And as others have said, during the process of slogging through Bailey's book, there is definitely the sense, if not full awareness because we've all been studying the Palin phenomenon for at least 3 years (and many more if you're an Alaskan), that he has not divulged the whole truth. The shrieking cat never leaps out of the bag, but you know damned well it's still in there, trapped by the fears and self-protective contrivances of the authors.
However, when all is said and done, Bailey's book is very much a valuable resource for those who've never heard this sordid tale. We should all be thrilled it's on the market.
I also highly recommend Floyd Orr's Paradigm Shift: The Palin Matrix. Not only is it the big-picture view of how in the hell we find our politics in the current wretched mess (allowing Palin to even happen), but it contains the best 70-page Babygate chapter and timeline written to date.
Back to the subject at hand, Dunn's book is phenomenal in its research and writing style - a real page-turner - and the review of it is excellent! Thanks for bringing it to the fore, Gryph.
You know, somebody posted that even the Fred Meyer in Wasilla has both these books. BUT, do you think I can find them at the FM here in Washington State? NOOOOOO! I've even written to them twice requesting they carry these books and have not even gotten a response. Next, I'll be threatening to boycott their store.

ReplyDeleteI never knew her house was so cheaply built! Formica countertops, builder grade cabinets, cheap grade tile and carpet.Funny that Zillow says her asking rent is too high.A house that size here in low cost of living NW Louisiana would rent for $2000 per month, but people would expect better kitchen and not plastic tub surrounds, etc in the baths.
I, too, want to reread Geoffrey's book. It is far superior to Bailey's in every way.
ReplyDeleteOT I was telling my daughter and son in law the story line of Bristol's upcoming reality show. My sil did not believe me until I swore to him I was not joking. His comment was if the mother can make a fool of her self then the daughter can too. I found it interesting that the absurdity of Bristol living with the Massey brothers and working for a charity would elicit disbelief then disdain. No doubt there are people in awe she got a reality show period. (and a new face)

ReplyDeleteOn picture 11, is that a sex swing hanging from the ceiling?
Bwah!
Dunn's book was excellent, Bailey's book was disorganized and lots of it was simply boring.
ReplyDeleteI still can't see why Bailey worshipped Sarah for so long, he just acted like she was the Great White Hope, I had a very hard time with his book and didn't think I was ever going to get to the end.
Bailey needs to come forth with the truth about Sarah Palin and quit appearing to be a star struck man.
My God...he is a good looking man. Seriously.
