The reason for Palin's belt buckle crucifix REVEALED!

Seeing the picture below really bothered me the other day.

I mean of all of the places to wear a crucifix, who puts one right above their naughty bits?

But then I read this...

A Crucifix, considered in Christian tradition as a defense against demons, as the holy sign of Christ's victory over every evil.

...and I was confused no more.

So the crucifix is the symbol of Christ's victory over evil.

And Palin wears it right above, what I imagine must be, the gates of hell.

Well that makes sense. And here I thought it was just decorative.

(By the way, weren't crucifixes also used to keep evil contained?)

I'm a Christian, and TBH, I'm appalled at the profusion of "cross marketing." When I go to the flea markets, the stalls of cheap Chinese rhinestone cross crap are everywhere. The cross should mean something, not be merchandized or blinged out or slapped on purses, hats, boots, wallets, T-shirts, and belt-buckles, and molded into cheap, gaudy jewelry.

The cross is not be a fashion statement, and I consider it vulgar and tasteless to try.

She's just pitiful. Truth is that age will take over. If all you have is appearance, soon you will have nothing. She looks like trash. A woman sadly clinging to nothing. Ideas, creativity, service to others- those things are beautiful forever.

Does this woman ever look in a mirror before she leaves home? Or is this her "proud to be valley trash look"? She seems to have no idea of how to dress appropriately for any occasion. Does she not own an iron? I was appalled by how she dressed on her trip to Israel but this is even worse. It is right up there with the Belmont black bra fiasco. I suppose she would wear a tank top and mini skirt to Buckingham Palace or the Vatican-not that she would be likely to be invited to either place. It is time for her to dress for what she is -a middle aged grandmother. Perhaps the folks at What Not to Wear could take her on--it would be media coverage!! At least Michelle Bachman is always appropriately dressed even if she lacks in other graces.

Can you imagine the velvet Elvis in the Lincoln room? Parking the snowmobile in the Rose Garden? Sarah and the girls wearing their Daisy Dukes out onto the White House lawn for tanning day?

Sarah Palin is known to play it up to her crowds.

Sarah wears the Star of David pendant around her neck if she is pandering to the Jewish people.

Sarah wears the cross pendant when she is pandering to Christians.

So who is Sarah Palin pandering to in Iowa when she wears the cross near her vajayjay?

Palin uses religious symbols as political props, much in the way she uses her family to gain support. When in Isreal, she wore a Star of David. In Iowa, home to many Christian conservatives, she wore a crucifix. But it seems odd that she would have chosen to wear a crucifix instead of a cross. The crucifix is traditionally a Catholic symbol. Was she looking to gain support from Catholic Christians? Normally a crucifix is worn on a chain over the heart. By wearing the crucifix on her belt, was she snubbing Catholics? Or maybe she simply thought (I use the term "thought" loosely) the belt was flippin' cute.

I was raised Roman Catholic. In my experience nuns who wore habits and priests may have worn a crucifix attached to a rosary. I recall a nun wearing a larger cross who wore lay clothing. Palin's enormous crosses and this belt buckle strikes me as sacrilegious and manipulative to pass her self off as an ordained religious leader. Her religious symbols are not for her to remind her of faith but enormous prop like advertisements.

I find Palin to be sacrilegious lying bearing false witness while wearing symbols of Jesus having died for our sins.

    Anon @ 4:03, exactly correct. It's sacrilegious.

For what it's worth, mainstream Protestant Christians don't generally don crosses, and certainly not ever as fashion accessories. There is a noticeable distinction between Protestantism and Catholicism, also, in that Catholic practice does focus a bit more on Christ's suffering on the cross and sin (as well as on Mother Mary), thus the wearing of crosses, etc. I place no judgement on these distinctions, I am just pointing out tradition.

Sarah Palin needs to leave her religious symbols at home. Someone needs to call her out on this. The Madonna reference is appropriate. Madonna seems to be a recovering Catholic who turned to Kabbalah. Again, not a judgment but perhaps an indication of the motivation behind her wearing the cross as a fashion accessory in the first place. All disrespect intended, in other words.

That gaudy piece of "artwork" on her Bedazzled belt (Piper's Vacation Bible School craft project?)) is a cross, but not a Crucifix. The distinction is that Catholic crucifixes have the body of Christ, to emphasize the suffering, whereas Protestant crosses lack the body because the focus is on redemption and the Resurrection. Mormons are discouraged about using crosses of any kind, which is why their church buildings only have spires.

As for the inappropriate use of symbols, I lived in West Virginia many years ago. I can't tell you how many Baptist, Holy Roller or Snake Handler folks had framed pictures of Sacred Heart Jesus and sometimes Mary as well. No clue as to their actual meaning.

And for those of you who admire Bachmann's taste--"rumor" has it that pray-away-the-gay hubby Marcus is the one who picks out her clothes. There's an interesting photo with Michelle, Marcus & Ted, and Ted's attention is NOT on Michelle.

The shape of the cross had its origin in ancient Chaldea (Babylon), and was used as the symbol of the god Tammuz (being in the shape of the mystic Tau, the initial of his name)...By the middle of the 3rd century A.D. the churches had either departed from, certain doctrines of the Christian faith. In order to increase the pretige of the apostate ecclesiastical system pagans were received into the churches apart from regeneration by faith, and were permitted largely to retain their pagan signs and symbols. Hence the Tau or T, in its most frequent form, with the cross piece lowered, was adopted.

Where did the cross come from, then? J.C. Cooper, An Illustrated Encyclopedia of Traditional Symbols, p.45, aptly summarizes it, "Cross--A universal symbol from the most remote times; it is the cosmic symbol par excellence." Other authorities also call it a sun-symbol, a Babylonian sun-symbol, an astrological Babylonian-Assyrian and heathen sun-symbol, also in the form of an encircled cross referred to as a "solar wheel," and many other varieties of crosses. Also, "the cross represents the Tree of Life, the age-old fertility symbol, combining the vertical male and horizontal female principles, especially in Egypt, either as an ordinary cross, or better known in the form of the crus ansata, the Egyptian ankh (sometimes called: the Tau cross), which had been carried over into our modern-day symbol of the female, well known in biology.

Further proof of its pagan origin is the recorded evidence of the Vestal Virgins of pagan Rome having the cross hanging on a necklace, and the Egyptians doing it too, as early as the 15th century B.C.E. The Buddhists, and numerous other sects of India, also used the sign of the cross as a mark on their followers' heads. "The cross thus widely worshipped, or regarded as a 'sacred emblem,' was the unequivocal symbol of Bacchus, the Babylonian Messiah, for he was represented with a head-band convered with crosses."

Those crucifixes are not a belt nor a necklace, simply a way to keep their rosaries handy.

I added this picture to my blog post, wearing a crucifix close to your crotch is very inappropriate.

The gaudy tasteless belt buckle also draws attention to whatever she spilled on herself. See the splotches?

I noticed this gaudy belt and thought it looked liked something from the dollar store.

This cheap looking dollar store belt buckle right above naughty parts makes her a walking advertisement for "all you can eat" for under a buck.

Catholics uses crosses, not just crucifixes, more frequently and in different ways than Protestants.

Of course the cross fad among Protestants would be largely among Evangelicals.

Our Protestant ecumenical church goes so far as to have the cross outside in a courtyard, where we can see its silhouette through our incredibly beautiful stained glass windows.

    Here is material describing it:

The cross stands just outside the chancel window in the meditation court. It is intended to be visible through the chancel window. Seen, as it is, through the chancel window, there is portrayed the reality and mystery of the crucifixion and resurrection of Christ. We do not fully understand God’s action in the resurrection, but see it symbolized here “through a glass darkly.” The cross is of solid Douglas fir timber, standing thirty-five feet in height. The arms of the cross total twelve feet in length. The cross is, of course, fully visible in the Meditation Courtyard.

After looking at a close-up of the full Palin shot, the only words that I can think of is "SKANK, SKANK, SKANK". Did you see that rats nest at the back of her greasy hair? Come on Sarah, hire a stylist! And to Bristol's comment about "everyone" dressing like her mother....well maybe if you are part of the Wal-Mart crowd.

Personal hygiene seems to be a problem for $P. She always looks like she needs a good shampoo and shower. False fingernails and a bumpit do not make up for wrinkled, soiled clothes , ill fitting (shoes), too short, too tight, wrinkled skirts and ill fitting clothes. No wonder the VP campaign had to spend so much money to dress up the whole family.

It clearly did not take, because they look "untended" even though they have "new" stuff on oftentimes.

Personal hygiene absence is one of the clear signs of mental issues. Anyone in the psych medical field knows that. Its Psych 101.

Anyone else bothered by the contrasting white stitching on the fly area? just saying.......it really stands out and draws the eye, me thinks she likes the penis idea and the belt buckle represents her god given balls.

We know how she thinks in sexual terms.

I thought her whole outfit was distasteful and should have offended rather than impressed the good folks of Pella. Not a good impression to leave behind. What moral woman or wife would appreciate Palin dressing like this? What moral woman would want their teen daughter to witness this and possibly want to dress like Scarah?

She's no role model, that's for sure. She dresses like a hussy slut who wants attention for her sexuality. Very tacky!

    ReplyDelete
  99. Anonymous9:47 AM

She misjudged her audience again, too. The Dutch Reformed and Christian Reformed people who make up the majority of Pella's population tend to be quite modest, not into bling. They may be quite wary of crosses as ornamentation, especially in such a gaudy way. (My Dutch CR relatives either don't wear crosses, or wear very small ones inside their shirts.) I expect many Pellans were offended by her belt buckle.

Also, apparently no one told her that Iowa is not rodeo country. She looks like a tourist visiting a Wyoming dude ranch for the first time, not a public figure visiting a small farming/manufacturing town in the midwest. A modest sundress would have been much more appropriate, both for the day and for the venue.

  100. Couldn't she find a pair of jeans with a STAR of DAVID emblazoned on the a$$?

The placement of the cross on top of the navel region might be borderline blasphemous because it reminds me of belly dancers decorating their navels in order to draw attention to their lower abdomen. Ugh.

The Palin women seem to have a real problem keeping their boobs consistent.
Flat chested one day, round and full the next, then a square unibreast, then a square slanted unibreast, prepartum leaky breasts, and now Sarah has one breast hiked up higher then the other.

I've worn a 36C since late grade school but I have never had a square or square drooping down on one side unibreast or one breast hanging a couple inches higher than the other, or breasts that dramatically changed sizes one day to the next.

    Fluid retention, Sarah?

However if one is wearing falsies the breastes are attached to the shoulder strap not to the chest.
Hunch one shoulder up and viola a magical helium booby.

Even Sarah's boobs betray her falsiness.

Thanks, Gryphen, for the close up of Sarah's hot mess. To me, it's what we have come to expect from Sarah. Any symbols she uses are always controversial, and the cross is no different.
I survived Catholic School, later became excommunicated from the Catholic Church for confronting the Bishop about using crosses to represent millions of surgical abortions in a letter while asking why there are no crosses that represent statistics for how many children were molested at the hands of priests during the same time frame.

If you revisit the candies video with bristol during DWTS, when the situation hits on her with a handfull of magnum condoms, he's wearing a full rosary with a crucifix around his neck, and she doesn't call him out for it.

Iconix brand is putting icon before "x", which Christians see as an abbreviation of "Christ", they get ticked off every year if someone advertises "Xmas", and declare a war on Chistianity.

Why is there no outrage from the Christians? Sinead O Connor ripped a photo of the pope on SNL, Madonna's "like a prayer" video was equally blasphemous, but the difference is they're making statements against the hypocricy in all religions, they're performers and have some talent.

Sarah and her ilk are using the symbols to pander to religious groups for personal and political gain, and have little or no talent.

Christians believe the body is a temple, and some get religious tattoos, isn't that blasphemy as well? Like putting graffiti on a temple?

Sarah just takes it to a new level and gets a free pass. She's neither a Christian nor a believer in the Jewish Faith and Tradition.
