I think we can all agree that what Al Franken did was a thing of beauty!

God I cannot tell you how often I wish my Democratic Senator demonstrated that kind of skill while doing his job.

Minnesotans are a lucky bunch!

It is SO pathetic, that the drive to harrass gays wanting to be legally married, is supposedly "Christian" motivated.

What bullshit that is. Disregard for the welfare of children is HARDLY a Christian concept.

There is a LOT of shame to be shouldered by those taking the anti-gay position.

If YOU (the reader of this) are one of such people, remember that GOD IS WATCHING YOU, and you will have to atone for your sins.

Come on, Gryphen! Minnesotans are a lucky bunch? Yes, we have Amy and Al, but we also have the two Presidential candidates and that little government shut down thing!

  3. Franken is a joy to watch in action! He is such a smart person and I love how he sticks the knife and twists just so....the person never knows what happened :) Kudos to Al Franken.

I love that man. Perhaps we should all remember that for every Michele Bachmann, there's also an Al Franken.

I do not regret voting for Al. Al Franken and my other Sen Amy Klobuchar are class acts.

Maybe we should elect more comedians of Al's ilk! His timing in this clip is still impeccable -- both the comedy and the facts! At least one good pol has come out of MN! (I also don't think Fran is trying to pray away teh gay!)

FYI: Did you see where $P wants to "help" the MSM? Beside's Tri-g's birth certificate, I still want to see her college transcripts! -- AND her degree! Oh -- caught this on Raw Story, http://tinyurl.com/3s8to2r.

    Peace out.

Bwa ha ha! He lied about a study written by a lesbian under oath to the US Senate! What an idjit!

Seriously, though - he is an evil man.

They aren't so lucky. They still have the Minnesota cuckoo, Bachmann.

YOUR Democratic Senator, Gryph, is somebody who did not bother with a college education. And by the way, Alaska is the only state in the union that has a senator with no college degree. So, there is no way that Begich could do what Al Franken did in this brilliant clip!

I'm from here, but have never been proud of Mark Begich.

    Franken for President 2016!!!!

Many have said 'he's only a comedian' - love me some Pres. Comedian Franken!!!

I'd say 'part' of Minnesotans are a lucky bunch!! You forget Gryphen - the State of Minnesota is what I call a ying/yang state -- on one hand you have Franken - on the other you have Batshit Crazy!!!

On a different topic - I don't usually think much of Arianna Huffington, but her Huff article on scandals today contained a section which I thought was worth pointing out:

"As for the details of the scandal itself -- and the coverage of it -- it's worth noting that the media organization at the center of it wasn't some new media upstart or unsupervised blogger of the sort the traditional media are always wringing their hands over -- worried that said upstarts haven't properly absorbed the ethics of their media elders. Instead it was a very traditional media elder,..."

Al Franken really surprises me. He successfully and seamlessly made the transition from a comedian to a well versed statesman who always manages to rebut hate and ignorance with the sources own talking points.
I agree, we need more Democrats like this.

  14. I keep saying it, HOPING that SOMEONE who has a prominent Sarah Palin blog will pick it up...all to no avail. But here goes, one more time:

I don't think Sarah Palin is running for any elected office, because holding that office would be TOO MUCH WORK. If she can't be governor of Alaska (a state with a smaller population than San Francisco), what other office could she hope to fill? No, what Sarah Palin is trying to position herself for is to take over Focus on the Family from James Dobson....

Lots of money, lots of attention, no real work, and (best of all) no accountability whatsoever....

    O/T
The Tea Party Nation is in hot water for not paying a Las Vegas convention bill for $642,144.

Also, some folks are accusing the Tea Party Nation of grifting: "After charging up to $549 to attend a February 2010 event that included a speech by former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin, some in the tea party political movement accused the for-profit Tea Party Nation of leveraging conservative enthusiasm for monetary gain."

Well, at least the Grifting Queen pocketed her speaking fee.

    O/T That's a wrap!

Julianne Moore: Playing Palin in “Game Change” a Challenge

    http://moviesblog.mtv.com/2011/07
    /20/sarah-palin-julianne-moore-game-change/

The HBO movie stars Ed Harris as John McCain, and Woody Harrelson as Steve Schmidt, Larry Sullivan as Palin’s deputy chief of staff Chris Edwards, Jamey Sheridan as McCain’s speechwriter and senior campaign advisor Mark Salter.

We’ll get to see behind the scenes with Palin family, too: Melissa Farman plays Bristol Palin, David Barry Gray appears as Todd Palin, and Justin Gaston as Levi Johnston. The film follows the 2008 McCain campaign from the candidate’s selection of Sarah Palin as running mate to their defeat on election night.

    game-change-a-challenge/

The film, shot in Maryland, was reported to be responsible for employing 160 local crew and 1,800 residents as extras. But that kind of job creation wasn’t on Palin’s mind when she spoke to Sean Hannity about Game Change. She wondered why she wasn’t get some money for her kids’ braces. Um, Sarah, haven’t you made millions off your books and TV appearances? Maybe Bristol could help you out with her windfall if you’ve spent all yours!

Bill Abendroth, dontcha know it doesn't bother her pretty little head in the least that she CAN'T fill elected office? She CAN run for Prez, put it on her resume, get lots of money, attention, with no real work or accountability.

Many comedians are thoughtful and intelligent, and purposefully project a non-serious personality. They know how to work an audience. Palin also knows how to work an audience, but she is merely comical.

I remember when Al Franken was running for that senate seat and he was ridiculed for "being a comedian".
Who is laughing now? I really have an immense dislike for this kind of puke (the tom minnery's of our world)

I absolutely love Al Franken, he's brilliant. Heard some good news yesterday, Alan Grayson is going to run for Congress again. We need him too.

Debbie Wasserman-Schultz is another awesome Dem & now Chairman of the DNC. I trust she'll do fantastic things. Now if we can just do away with those dang Blue Dog (DINOs) Dems, we can really go places.

  20. While everyone is surprised that a comedian can be so impressive as aa senator, it is worthwhile to know more about Sen. Franken's actual background:

Sen. Franken attended Harvard College and graduated cum laude in 1973 with a B.A. in political science.

In addition: Franken has served as a volunteer with the United Service Organizations since he first visited Kosovo in 1999. Franken has conducted several overseas tours to both Iraq and Afghanistan, in addition to participating in numerous celebrity handshake tours at military hospitals to visit wounded soldiers. On March 25, 2009, Franken was presented with the USO's Merit Award for his 10 years of service to the organization through visiting injured and deployed servicemembers.

The above is from Sen. Franken's Wikipedia entry, with an extensive list of source materials. There is so much more to this gentleman than just being a comedian.

  21. Minnesotans are lucky unless they live in their 6th District where they have a bug-eyed lunatic with a closeted gay husband representing them. Also, a shout-out to the BEST senator Minnesota ever produced, including Humphrey and Franken - Paul Wellstone. We sure need him now.

Facts don't matter to a party that speak to the prestigious House Floor and use a disclaimer later that their comments for the record to sway legislation were "not intended to be used as factual statements."

This party and their base have such an audacious selective reasoning and cognitive dissonance, it is frightening what they are doing with their own children in their 'nuclear' families.

Sarah Palin and this ilk thinks Nucular families means pro-war, pro-death penalty, pro-Free Market, homophobic, bigoted and Christian.

Anon @ 8:37 - Begich, without a college degree, actually hails from the College of Hard Knocks. He's got a servant's heart and has worked for the betterment of his fellow Alaskans.

Compare that to Sarah Palin, who failed at five colleges and still somehow managed to cobble together a 'degree' and look how that has helped her? She claims she's worthy of working-class heroism, it's Mark that shows that you don't need a degree to make a difference.

They also have Michelle Bachman, so it kinda balances out.

Yabbut ... here in this state with Franken in the Senate (not to mention my rep, Keith Ellison) we also have Michele Bachmann and Tim Pawlenty. How this state could grow such wildly different politicians is completely beyond me.

For all those people who thought Franken was "just a comedian", think again. He's brilliant.

    Nefer @ 4:54 -

Thanks for sharing that info on Al Franken. Not only is he very funny, but he's a brilliant, well-educated, compassionate man who always seems to be extremely well versed on whatever issue he's discussing. He does the research BEFORE he opens his mouth and I think many of the people he deals with seriously underestimate him...to their detriment!

One of my Senators is Kirsten Gillibrand who, while not being as well known as Franken, promises to have a long and successful career in Congress, fighting fiercely for the middle class and poor of our country.

Now, if we can only get rid of more of the batshit crazy ones, we'd be in good shape!
