I heard this the night Barack Obama won the Presidency. I wrote it down in my daughter's journal that night, hoping that it would help to bookmark that truly remarkable event. It is a truly beautiful statement.
We need it in a bumper sticker too!!

  4. Totally O/T but, Bachmann seems to have a Serious Identity Crisis. Is she an "I" or a "we"?

“Well this is kind of what we do when we go to an event,” said the Minnesotan in response to a question about whether she overshadowed the county party’s dinner with her high-decibel Elvis music and rock-star routine on stage. “We always — afterward, I sign things and try to meet as many people as we can,” she said. “That’s what this is about, being able to meet people and talk to people, touch people — that’s what we tried to do tonight.”

  10. O.M.G. This is wonderful!! And True . . . I believe President Obama will emerge from his second term as a world leader like Dr. Nelson Mandela or the Dalai Lama. I feel fortunate to walk this Earth at the same time as him. Thanks for posting this Mr. G!

This is a beautiful quote but would be more valid if the economy wasn't so bad. Sorry but true.

  14. Rosa sat

Martin not only walked, he gave his life at the end of that path, which involved many arrests for civil disobedience.

Obama, like Al Sharpton, ran. Unlike Al, Barack won.

Sunday, the police guarding his house had 65 of my friends arrested for protesting the oil shale pipeline from Alberta to the Gulf of Mexico Obama is about to sign off on. Among those arrested by the people guarding Obama's house:

Bill McKibbon - founder of 350.org, the major climate change powerhouse protesting CO2 emissions.

Lt. Dan Choi, the most important resistor to DADT. Obama has felony charges pending against Lt. Choi for an earlier WH protest.

Jane Hamsher, one of the founders of firedoglake, a blog for which I write weekly.

The firbaggers will be chaining themselves to the WH fence, fighting this president's corporate-friendly policies, and struggling against his ongoing wars, Somali torture factories and erosion of civil rights as long as any of us are free from jail.

    Free Bradley Manning
    Free Dan Choi
    Free Bill McKibbon
    Free Jane Hamsher

Jail Wall Street, Obama, not those who voted for you.

    Beautiful Gryphen. Thanks for sharing.

And thanks for reminding me that it is within each one of us to uplift humanity in some way.

Please. What treacly obfuscation. Obama did not run so children could fly. Unlike Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King, Obama does not have the least interest in fighting for civil rights, human rights, or the rights of anybody who is not rich and powerful.

RICH peoples' children can fly, yeah - in their subsidized corporate jets that Obama likes to rant against but when push comes to shove it's only empty talk.

One must also remember all that President Obama inherited from "Nutbush City," plus a Congress that is determined to take down this country and its citizenry all to ensure he's a one term president. Sure, he's made mistakes, but in many ways his hands are tied. Not making excuses, it's just a fact.

Thank You! I never saw this before, and knowing that the MLK memorial will be dedicated, it just makes the sentiment that much sweeter.
