Just in case there are NOT enough nails in Sarah Palin's political coffin, let me present the devastating Rachel Maddow interview with ex-McCain staffers Steve Schmidt and Nicolle Wallace.

Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

The first part of this interview is about Chris Christie and Barack Obama, which IS very interesting and worth watching. But if you really just want to see the Palin portion you might want to skip it

The Steve Schmidt/Nicolle Wallace portion starts around the 12:23 mark.

The skewering of Palin begins around the 17:31 mark.

And things REALLY heat up around the 19:40 mark.

Wallace also finally admits that the "cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs" VP in her book is based on Sarah Palin.

Wow, who could have figured THAT out? I mean besides everybody?

  1. I was floored by Steve Schmidt admitting that he too was involved in a campaign where a candidate wasn't properly vetted. Now, who would that be, Steve?

Nicole's book is a combination of mea culpa and a clever way to recount the crazy that Sarah brought to the campaign without getting a warning letter from one of Sarah's lawyers.

So, it would seem that all those books, starting with Game Change were all correct? Guess Sarah will have to sue them all. LOL.

F both of those frauds. Steve Schmidt played a key role in unleashing this Palin scourge on the rest of this country.
Perhaps Nicolle Wallace needs to take a trip in the wayback machine and look at all the interviews she did during the 08 campaign defending the mentally unbalanced idiot. I would have a lot more respect for both of them ifnthey at least had the balls to call out MCain, AND apologize to the country.

Gonna sue her too, sister Sarah?

Don't think there are many folks out there that have one bit of respect or care for Sarah Palin! Finally!!! Down, down, down w/her to the bottom of the pit.

What surprises me is some of the comments that are posted as if this is the first time that Schmidt and Wallace have said anything about Palin.

It's not. Schmidt more than Wallace, but they have both made comments about Palin in the past as to the campaign trail. They've both had more balls than those of McCain and the paid mouthpieces like Kristol et al, who were also responsible. Kristol, for example, sucked her toes forever and sat on TV panels getting paid for it. He's still got the hots for her and if she jumped in, so would he.

It's like an indication that people are pretending they've been paying attention to Palin and surrounding info but truly aren't.

As to Palin suing anyone - clearly nobody has paid attention to that either. The bar to sue a writer is so flipping high -- she can't jump that high. It doesn't happen.

Kitty Kelly wrote rag books on Sinatra, Streisand, The Queen of England - just to name a few.
NEVER HAS BEEN SUED AND NEVER WILL.

You know what? Schmidt and Wallace AND MOST ESPECIALLY JOHN MCCAIN still owe this country a sincere, straight from the heart apology. I appreciate that they are admitting now exactly what she is, but the fact is, Schmidt is trying to weasel out of this by throwing up John Edwards as a Democratic example of a poorly vetted VP. And Wallace is basing her Sarah Palin character as a Democrat! At the end of the day, they're both still rightwing worms who almost damaged this country beyond repair by not coming out with the truth about Palin before voters rejected their ticket!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Holly3:17 PM

I'm glad they both have a sense of humor about it. The fact that they confessed provides some redeeming value, but both they and McCain ought to be tried for treason for not jettisoning her as soon as they realized their mistake.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Anonymous3:18 PM

Wow, so Maddow refuses to have Joe McGinniss on...a man who has actually tried (and succeeded) in vetting Sarah Palin...yet books two snickering rightwingers who are now excusing their failure to vet Sarah Palin by using the "Democrats do it too!" defense. John Edwards at least gave a damn about the least among us in our society, his own character flaws notwithstanding. What the hell does Schmidt and Wallace and their boss John McCain stand for, the borderline treasonous cowards?

Here's Kuku 4 Cocoa Puffs Girl in October of 08 when asked about Sarah Palin:

So few people have actually spent time with Sarah Palin. And you have, and you're one of the few people who talk to the media that has. Did you have an impression of her that's grown and changed over the few months you've known her? What has it been like getting to know her?

I think she has had an entrance into national politics unlike anybody else. Unlike Bill Clinton, who came from a small Southern state, he was the actual nominee so he was before different state press corps and he was before the political press corps. With Bush, the same thing. He was governor and came up as his own candidate. He obviously had a pretty big press corps in Texas and was in the Bush family.

I worked for Jeb Bush. Sarah Palin reminds me a lot of Jeb Bush, who was very hands on. He was always in direct contact, email-wise, with reporters. He'd often get back to them before I'd get back to them. She's like that. She's very hands on. Reminds me of my time working for Jeb Bush. She doesn't like a lot of bureaucracy. She gets on her email and deals directly with press and the staff and it's very, very impressive. Very appealing.

I don't envy anyone who had to work with someone as stupid, ignorant, vain, and erratic as Palin. Just the same, they along with McCain need to apologize for foisting this nightmare on us. Although I will always be grateful that McCain and Palin lost, just the very thought that someone so shallow, ignorant, and hateful had the potential to get near the White House is just as scary as it was in 2008.

So Rachel won't interview McGinniss for a book about the Real Sarah Palin.
But she will interview Nicole Wallace about a book that is admittedly inspired by Sarah Palin (but not as factual because she has to change enough facts to make it fiction).
    What's the rational?
Last week I heard the rational was that RM has always stayed away from SP as irrelevant, but then why interview Nicole Wallace on a fiction book inspired by someone who is irrelevant?

I have both a brain and courtesy. This country has not gone to hell. You are rude and incorrect.

The pair of McCain staffers are well compensated for their appearance on the Maddow show in the form of name recognition. They cash in that recognition to sell their books, obtain other media appearances and generally shore up their income stream.

Steve Schmidt characterized Sarah Palin as "mentally unstable" in his book. In that book and never since has Steve Schmidt admitted and apologized for attempting to put an ignorant, stupid person in the VEEP office.

I agree with those above who feel outrage that those two giggling a-holes are being consulted here by Rachel, whom I admire greatly even so.

This sadly does show how most of the "insiders" in the game of politics see our country's destiny as such - a game. When it comes down to talking politics, they are basically all on the same side (I know Rachel protested when Nicole said Obama had gone too far to the Left, but still).

They all need the game to continue so that they can have television shows and write books and get hired by campaigns. It's a business, and it makes me sick.

People rarely pay a price for anything in our world today, where media and politics intersect and are essentially symbiotic.

They are all chummy and would probably have a beer with one another in a heartbeat. Not that this is so terrible, as I do believe when it comes to governance in our country, some compromise is necessary.

But I don't like to see the clique behavior come out between millionaire pundits from our "fourth estate" who have turned our country's history into a career - especially when so many people are struggling financially.

It just gives me a queasy feeling.

Loved the stuff about Sarah, though.

Nicole Wallace's novel "inspired" by Sarah Palin is the icing on the cake for the month of September. I read an excerpt; the president is being impeached for hiding the VP's mental health problems.

And what's Sarah going to do? It's fiction. Nicole is a good interview, and is showing up everywhere, not afraid to say that Sarah inspired the cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs character. And Steve Schmidt - who wrote one of my all time favorite takedown emails to Sara - is right there beside her referring to how own involvement with inadequate vetting of a VP candidate.

And Sarah? Well, Sarah is swanning around agreeing with Steve and Nicole that candidate were not vetted well enough in the 2008 elections.

Is she that much of brazen idiot that she purposefully timed such an outrageous statement on the same day Nicole's book was released? Or is karma just all about timing this weeK?

As someone who followed Hillary and worked on her campaign, I can agree and attest to what was written in Game Change . I saw it happening and predicted she would lose the nomination even before Super Tuesday.

Sarah, on the other hand, was described as mentally unstable and grossly ill-prepared to run for or assume the vice presidency. I watched Palin closely during the campaign, long before I found this and other blogs and saw exactly what was described in Game Change.

In his new book, "Deer in the Headlights," Johnston says the mother of his child previously had liposuction on her chin and was never comfortable with her appearance.

"She looks like she got some jaw work going on there," Johnston says. "She was uncomfortable with [her body] growing up but was never one to go out and get plastic surgery. I mean, she never wanted to do that. But now she’s got the money."

And although both of their young lives were changed forever after Bristol's mother ran for office, Johnston says he’s still happy that he met the mother of his child and her family.

"I wouldn’t trade it for the world. I have a beautiful son. You know Bristol and I had some great times," Johnston tells me. "And this whole media thing, meeting a lot of great people, I’m a lot smarter. It's been a fun ride."

I just cannot imagine that those two, both intelligent and respected, would allow the farce to continue - unless they were guaranteed she would be replaced before the inauguration. I do blame McCain for most of this nightmare (including Gabby Giffords) but these people are also culpable. Rachel, not liking thinking less of you!

Strike while the iron is hot! I sent the Sharlott article plus links from I'm to a woman who sat next to my table at dinner last week and this was her reply:
"Thank you for your e-mails. I just read the first one about palin's baby hoax. I believe now it is not her baby. I had little respect for her before but this story really makes me think poorly of her, as well as her supporters. She seems power hungry and will stop at nothing to get what she wants!!"

Keep spreading the true story around and THAT's how bloggers will change what happens, regardless of our corporate-owned media.

Rachel Maddow presents information in such a coherent, well-researched form that we should be so grateful to have her on MSNBC. She puts breaking news in historical context and analyzes the meaning of current event like no other.

That said, she should give credence to Joe McGinnis and I can only think that she has not followed the "birth of Trig" story as I have, from the beginning, or she would be all over it. I have read this blog every day for 3 years or more and am convinced that Sarah scammed everyone. I want the truth and Rachel should do her usual exhaustive research and get on board.

This week, we decided to dig deeper into evaluations of Sarah Palin, starting with a more straightforward question: Should Palin run or not in 2012? We received responses back from 151 of our influential Republican leaders -- 35 in Iowa, 48 in New Hampshire and 63 in South Carolina. Just 15 percent said yes, Palin should run, while 81 percent said she should not.

Now by giving voice and support to those who will profit financially from exposing the evil actions they participated in to perpetuate the fraud upon this country of the campaign of 2008. It will go down in infamy. What do you suppose the rest of the world will think of us when all of this is exposed. And Schmidt and Wallace are doing it laughingly .. all the way to their respective banks. We have serious challenges and problems in the United States and one very lonely, very loving and compassionate President who is trying to address these one at a time. And this is what we learn? That two people who knew the truth about Sarah Palin chose not to speak up because hey, it was their job to lie, to bolster up a fraud. They did it for the money? They did it because they believed in what? McCain? Another fraud. This is not funny; this is not okay. How could another country even begin to want to deal with us on a serious political or economic level when they read the stories that are coming out about our political games in 2008? This whole thing makes me very sick.

I was delighted when I watched this yesterday. Sarah's pretty low on Rachael's radar screen in general, she punted that job to Keith while he was on msnbc. I'm more disturbed at Keith than I am at Rachael for not giving Joe air time.
Anyway, These two gadflys get paid to run republican elections, it's what greases their palms, it's their specialty, and they're both held in high esteem among many of the Republicans.
To have them on MSNBC, bashing Sarah, who's sheer crazy they both experienced intimately, must be "driving miss Crazy" nuts!

OMFG Rachael's show is rehashing this whole Sarah Palin interview... ephasizing and calling Palin's bluff) While showing clips of Sarah "Doing political things", Steve Schmidt says she's a "failure of the vetting process" and Nichol does a fictional book about a crazy vp pick.... @3:55 You came close to expressing my feelings. It is "just business", Rachel, Steve, and Nicole, doing what they are paid to do. Paid performers, courtesy of corporate media. Like Sarah. All of us are guilty of flocking to those whom spew "our version" of THE TRUTH. The truth doesn't exist, never has, never will. The truth is controlled by the controllers. Fake pregnancy exposed and McCain saying he's sorry? Not happening. Ask Debra Medina of Texas, when baited by Glenn Beck about 9-11 truth, something benign about maybe a new investigation, DEMONIZED AS A TRUTHER, and Rick Perry slides in. The media and the politicians are owned by the same people. Want a job? Follow the script. I know some of us are miffed at Jeanne Devon and Shannon Moore, but they were willing to follow the script to get ahead. Like Rachel and Keith. Exposing the truth? No one in this society gets far enough ahead to expose it. Truthers are marginalized as whack-job tin-foilers. Some of you people here are experiencing the frustration of what 9-11 truthers went through, most of whom left the movement in disgust circa 2006. Joe McGinnis put a truth out there, but he will never commit to the full extent that David Ray Griffin has. History has a way of following us into the future, but only on it's own terms.

"Whatever else we think about them and their roles in 2008, the fact is that Steve and Nicole are out there in interviews as a deterrent to Sarah getting in the race. They will ramp up the comments and reveal campaign-ending dirt if she decides to run. This is a warning round. They are nothing if not loyal GOP foot soldiers, and they will take her down before she destroys the party. It's their job, and they'll do it. And very effectively, I would bet."

Believe it or not, I can imagine exactly how they could have allowed the nomination to go so far. It wasn't their jobs to vet her, but just to prep her and media train her, etc. She wasn't tapped until Aug. 29, with the election just 8-1/2 weeks away. They are loyal foot soldiers, and by the time they probably realized she was nuts, it was way too late in the process. It would have ensured that their candidate would lose. Besides, they probably didn't have the power to turn the course.

Could Schmidt/Wallace have been tipped off to SP's intentions? We're talking about two senior conservative strategists - they have there inside contacts in Washington and beyond.

SP's time clock to publicly announce is nearing it's end. This was good strategy and timing on their part to go on record and attempt to put an end to any hope of this charlatan reaking havok on the American population.

I'd love to understand why three well-placed, well-connected, and bright newspeople won't touch the Palin Baby Hoax.

Yes, Rachel Maddow is one of them. Shannyn Moore, and also Jeanne Devon, the AKM blog writer and co-author of the Bailey book. Three people in the news/blog business who are surely aware of the WHOLE story via professional gossip where they can separate the wheat from the chaff.

Another woman who surely knows the whole entire story is CBJ.

All four of them refuse to touch this story. They won't even tell us why they refuse to touch it.

My guess? They think that if all the details were to be known, we would find it appalling beyond belief, and so would all concerned.

And there's another very important reason to avoid the BabyGate story: lots of people are hoping it will all just go away, become a dim memory. Then there would be no need for Schmidt and Wallace to apologize, no need for McCain to admit his role, no need to show how damaged the GOP is. No need to think about who else might be involved (Hi Murdoch, Kochs, and MSM). Yes, without the Baby Hoax it would all be so much easier to forget.

NPR not running an interview is one more indicator of how deep and strong is the muzzle on BabyGate stories. As is the disappearing of the video of the Behar/McGinniss interview, although the transcript remains. McG is the third interviewee.

G-Man, I wish you would do a post about this. Explain it to us. Why no comment from these VIPs on this important story.

In either Game Change or Geoffrey Dunn's book, there were passages about this. McCain higher ups were feeling very guilty about putting Palin so close to power and were considering how to sideline her in the unlikely event that McCain won. I understand people faulting them, but keep in mind that the alternative would have been completely obliterating McCain's chances by ditching his running mate, mid-campaign. Suicide. Sidelining her or forcing her to resign if he won was their only option.

    Here comes the next nail....

If you walked in thinking she was a vapid, inept idiot who's more concerned with surface than substance, you will walk out thinking the same thing. Similarly, if you're a fan of Palin and believe she's a straight-talking breath of fresh air, a woman of the people with vision for the country, then you will continue to believe that.

Actually, there's such jokey condescension in Broomfield's approach -- the title alone says it all -- that his film will undoubtedly fortify her supporters who feel she's been unfairly targeted; this is the woman, after all, who coined the phrase "lamestream media" in an effort to diminish her perceived attackers.

...But rather than enlightening us, Broomfield (and co-director Joan Churchill) trot out old material and end up with a portrait of a petty 12-year-old girl in an ambitious politician's body.

There's the Katie Couric interview in which Palin couldn't name a single newspaper or magazine she consistently read, and the Charles Gibson interview in which she smugly bumbled to answer his question about President Bush's doctrine. There's the video of Palin cheerily chatting before the TV cameras as Thanksgiving turkeys are being slaughtered in the background. It's a greatest-hits collection of lowest moments.

But Broomfield also lines up an array of former friends, supporters and colleagues who repeat a couple of prevailing themes. One is of Palin's radiant charisma, and her ability to make you feel like you're the only person in the room when she's talking to you. The other is the assertion that once she perceives someone as a threat or finds that someone is no longer useful, that person will not only be jettisoned by Palin but ostracized by her entire family. The phrase "thrown under the bus" comes up a lot, and it makes you wonder how enormous this bus must be.

Shunned former allies describe her as if she were the meanest mean girl in school, the leader of a coveted clique, one that you're either in or out of depending on her ever-changing assessment of your loyalty. It's juicy stuff but not very informative.

Broomfield does get a rare sit-down with Mike Wooten, the Alaska State Trooper whom Palin tried to have fired following an ugly divorce from Palin's sister. (The state Legislature found that she had abused her office in the case that became known as "Troopergate.") Wooten pokes holes in Palin's image as a loving, hardworking mom who's juggling a career and kids: He says she would often shoo the children away to play in the backyard, and that he was actually the one who helped raise them.

The one who provides some truly startling perspective is Pastor Howard Bess, who has dared to clash with Palin over one of the chief topics that define her: religion. Palin is a born-again Christian, and has enjoyed the fervent support of evangelicals nationwide. Bess suggests the possibility of a Palin presidency in which God might be giving her instructions to start a nuclear war, for example -- she's that certain of herself in her status at the anointed one.

Now is that a scary prospect? You betcha.

Top McCain Aides Come Clean: Sarah Palin is Mentally Ill

In the course of discussing the possibility of Sarah Palin entering the GOP Presidential field, Nicolle Wallace told Rachel Maddow that the fictional Vice Presidential character in her new book, It’s Classified, was inspired by Sarah Palin. This Vice President is “cuckoo for cocoa puffs” and resigns in shame.

It’s almost three years since Republican strategists Steve Schmidt and Nicolle Wallace were telling us that Sarah Palin had been vetted, that she was a great choice, that she was ready to be President. Now that the truth has come out, the story of the behind the scenes real Sarah Palin should serve as a warning for all voters.

Yes, your instincts were correct. Sarah Palin is not well...

She'd retain a shred of dignity and her secrets, he could pick someone much better and maybe even have won. (McCain lost my mother's vote because of Palin.) If they sincerely believed she was a danger to the country, Wallace and Schmidt would have found a way to get her off the ticket. I cut them no slack on this...they're smug and unprincipled.

  124. Another nail on Rachel Maddow TONIGHT! She replays clips from yesterday's interview with Wallace and Schmidt and explains that this is news: Sarah Palin was not vetted and is MENTALLY ILL.

I was riled that Schmidt didn't admit the Republican 2008 VP vetting failure without trying to even it up. There's just no comparison between John Edwards and a mentally ill Sarah Palin. Do we know if Edwards was even cheating in 2004?

Anyway, neither Schmidt nor Wallace had to own up to the 2008 failure. They could pull a McCain and say how proud they are that Sarah brought excitement to the campaign. They're showing their patriotism and owning up now. I'm grateful.

OK, gotta say this. I have been diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Living with a mental illness is HORRIBLE. It takes a serious toll on self, family, relationships, work, etc. I have been in and out of therapy for more than half my life, have been suicidal on several occasions, have played guinea pig while various doctors tried to sort out the best cocktail of drugs.

It is so difficult to tell people about this condition. I feel like a drama queen for even bringing it up. Dealing with people's stereotypes adds a whole other layer. I am particularly sensitive to this because when I first began to show symptoms, I was in a dominionist high school/church and no one believed in psychology as a valid discipline. Therefore, I was blamed for my mental illness, depression, and uncontrollable moods. Some people actually suggested that I might be demon-possessed. I had to fight hard, with everything I had, to convince my parents to even check into whether their insurance would cover therapy. Fortunately, in college I finally was able to start working through some issues with an excellent counselor. But there are still so many stigmas attached. I have to keep differentiating myself from public figures who exhibit behavior that gets labeled as "bipolar." I have to keep telling people, "No, I'm not like Britney Spears. I'm not like Charlie Sheen." And now, "I'm not like Sarah Palin."

Do I feel bad for her? Not even a teeny, tiny bit. I cannot presently afford either the therapy or the medication that I desperately need. Sarah Palin can afford both. She can afford the best doctors, a stay in a luxurious private hospital, whatever she needs to get better. The fact that she doesn't do it--that instead of focusing on dealing with her own mental illness, she poisons our national discourse and tries to spread her madness to the rest of the country--is infuriating and humiliating to me.

    (will continue)

    (bipolar comments continued)

One of the hallmarks of mania is, of course, grandiosity. I understand that. Sarah clearly exhibits that. I think it is part of her religious conviction that she is God's anointed. Untreated mental illness and religious fanaticism are a lethal, frightening combination.

But I am also lucid enough, even in my manic flights, to understand some of my limitations. I know I would make a lousy president. There are days when I walk around crying for no particular reason. I understand that this would be disastrous if I had, say, a sensitive meeting with the hostile leader of another country (or, heck, even with an ally). I realize that someone who is sometimes too depressed to get out of bed should not be making decisions that affect other people. I realize that someone who is preoccupied with death and sometimes thinks all this life stuff is pointless because we're all going to die anyway--this is not a person who should have access to nuclear codes.

And you know what? If I decided to run for mayor, I have family members who would remind me of these things and point out that a stressful, political position would be in no one's best interest. It's all of our misfortune that Sarah has had no such people in her life, or has refused to listen to them.

    (final comment about bipolar disorder)

On the one hand, I'm glad Nicolle Wallace is admitting that Sarah Palin would have been a disaster as President. On the other hand, I'm distressed that she might be stigmatizing mental illness even further. No, a bipolar person absolutely does not belong in the vice presidential office. But Sarah Palin has many shortcomings that are more or less within her control--the pathological lying, the vindictiveness, the corruption. Why not highlight those rather than the mental illness? Because while I think SP could be getting treatment and chooses not to, bipolar disorder isn't *inherently* her fault. It isn't something she chose to have. It isn't something within her control to overcome.

Sorry to rant. Seeing Nicolle Wallace dismiss her as "cuckoo"--rather than as all the many other horrible things she is and chooses to be--just really pissed me off.

Steve Schmidt is more forthcoming than he has been in the past, but he is STILL pulling his punches regarding Palin.

He SHOULD have resigned from the McCain campaign when he realized that McCain wanted to fuck our entire country by foisting this congenital moron on us. That he did not do so and expose McCain's folly will be an indelible stain on Schmidt's reputation. He could ameliorate that somewhat by telling the WHOLE truth about Palin's idiocy and fecklessness. When he does THAT, then I'll think more kindly of him.

Schmidt is still trying to cover his ass and evade full responsibility for his role in orchestrating what is probably the single biggest campaign clusterfuck in history.

    Anon on BiPolarism,
Thanks for sharing. Thanks for keeping up the tough work of staying healthy. Having dealt with depression, I know that it is HARD WORK.

People who haven't been down that road have no clue how hard the most basic things are--like finding the energy to even get up to go to the bathroom!

I would suggest to everyone that they encourage depressed or otherwise mentally ill family and friends to get help. Not "get over it." Get help. They won't "get over it" without help.

A lot of mental health issues can be treated beneficially with medication. It's not an instant fixer, but with time and support, the issues can often improve dramatically.

Thank you again, Anon, for your courage to speak up. May strength stay with you.

OH PUH-LEEZE! Stop all the division and judging and hatin' on Rachel. You have NO CLUE what goes on behind the scenes. The witch IS melting right before our eyes.

It's almost beginning to sound like Sarah & the sea of pee-ers with their enemies list. SO quick to judge and jump to conclusions.

I can't stand the lying quitter & have done my fair share for the last 3 years to help bring her down and will keep on doing so until the day she finally sits down, shuts up and quits messing with America. Everybody does their own thing in exposing the right-wing nuttiness. Just because someone is not as OBSESSED as we are, doesn't mean they aren't doing their part in their own way.

All will be revealed in time and it won't matter then that you got mad at MSNBC or Rachel. Give it a rest and don't be acting like the flying monkeys do in rushing to judgements.

I too will never forget Palin’s smug and angry response to the question about the Bush Doctrine. I was disgusted watching that interview as she tried to evade and minimize her poor performance. But, the question regarding what she read was more telling. She portrayed herself as an avid reader, yet it was very revealing when she couldn’t name anything she had read. She backed herself into a lame passive response by saying “anything that has been put in front of me.” An avid reader would have jumped for that question with enthusiasm! There is nothing more fun than describing a favorite book. Instead Palin looked like Couric had just passed gas.

At best she is a malignant narcissist: At worst, a psychopath.

NEITHER can be cured nor treated. SP exhibits signs of any/all of these "disorders".

She needs to be permanently retired, away from any position of power, including a Fox talking head.

Charles Manson was a psychopath. She is not as smart to do Manson damage but pretty 'enough' to get people to do damage for her...(jared lounger)...will the public EVER get to know whom actually inspired him to do the horrid shit he did? I doubt it, even if he straight up claimed he did it b/c of the cross-hairs SarahPac had up on their website...We will NEVER GET TO KNOW!

Well, I didn't see anything new in the Schmidt/Wallace interview. Maybe I missed it. Seemed like they were trying to discredit President Obama. And Nicolle is making money off of Palin by writing a book with a character based on her. Sarah Palin is an industry. Even the people who despise her have figured out a way to capitalize on her crazy.

John Edwards was NOT a poorly vetted V.P. His problems didn't start until after he and Kerry lost the '04 election when he started to run for '08. I'm not sure of the exact timing as to when he met his mistress who later had a daughter with him but it had nothing to do with Edwards as V.P. That started in either '07 or '08.

I'm sure there have been other poorly vetted V.P.'s by both the Democratic and Republican party but Palin has to be the worst since they never spoke to anyone in Alaska until after she was offered the nomination. They did NOT know of Bristol's pregnancy until AFTER she said yes. Their response from McCain's spokesperson was along the lines of, "They're getting married-right? Like today?"

The McCain team spent approximately 3 weeks vetting Pawlenty and Lieberman, and 3 hours, if that much, vetting Palin. They definitely lived to regret it. However, they got off easy compared to the rest of the country.

I can't believe the audacity of these two. Wallace and Schmidt can sit there spewing all the opinions and BS they want – they are just as culpable as Palin and McCain. How DARE they?? After making a massive effort to get him elected in spite of the serious and frightening VP candidate – they actually believe we’re all gonna sit around now and say – “wow, thank god Wallace and Schmidt are telling the truth now”. You better believe this – if that election had a different outcome, none of this would see the light of day. They lied, they covered up and now they have the audacity to laugh about her mental state. Especially Nicole Wallace. I’d like to smack that smirk off of her face – she is cashing in on the mess they tried to shove down our throats. Buy her book??? Not in this lifetime. Nope. Every dime that she profits should be donated to charity because she has no right to make money off of an absolute nightmare they created and hid from the public. It’s really not ok to make money off a crime, now is it Nicole?

  140. Anonymous at 6:37, Gryphen and all. If you want an understanding of how deeply things can be buried, read "Family of Secrets" by Russ Baker. Gore Vidal called it the most important book of the past ten years. I call it the most important book of my lifetime and I'm seventy years old. I read the book three times looking for holes. They simply are not there and yet some enormously important events in our country and I mean GIGANTIC have been covered up and ignored. There is a TABOO that simply cannot be ignored.
BTW Bill Moyer as well as Dan Rather also endorsed "Family of Secrets". It will knock your socks off and then you will start to understand.

  141. I still think she will get in as a third party candidate.
She has to do something to satisfy her increasingly vocal base.
If she doesn't, she is finished.
I don't think they will wait around till 2016.
She will split the party vote and hand Obama the election.

Or if she doesn't, she will continue to do reality tv until she fades into oblivion.
or until she has a breakdown and becomes a spokesperson for whatever ailed her.

What disturbs me about this particular episode by Schmidt and Wallace is what were they also hiding about McCain? It is common knowledge that the man has an explosive temper and is a gambling addict. Some of his close political allies said rght from the start that he does not have the temperament for the office. So these two operatives were willing to put TWO unstable people at the top of the ticket. I think both should squirm away in disgrace.

10:37, you're the one who sounds like a peebot.

In my world, everybody, including Rachel Maddow, gets called on their shit, whether they are liberal or not (or whether I voted for them or not, either, for that matter).

I have no time or inclination to defend the indefensible. And there is no defense for an influential, liberal commentator like Rachel Maddow to not only allow people like Schmidt and Wallace on her show, but to fawn all over them.

Surely Maddow isn't so powerless as to have been made to do that. Just like she isn't so powerless as to have been denied permission to have McGinniss on her show. Chris Matthews did, so obviously MSNBC has not blackballed him.

Trust me, life is so much easier when you stop twisting yourself into a ball trying to justify the unjustifiable when your own favs do it. Just hold them all to the same standard.

Well, now we know the reason why Fox News and the press and other members of the GOP have been giving her a free pass.

If it came out that she was CRAZY and people knew about it and nominated her anyway, that would a be SEVERE BLOW to the GOP.

It would cause mass questioning of motivations, etc.

They HAD to make her sound sane and give her some aura of credibility to cover their own behinds.

She wasn't evil...just mentally ill. Very scary to put the country in that position. Thanks for nuthin' John McCain. I still think he owes each and every American, and frankly the rest of the world, an apology.
