From Straight.com:
Given the circus-like atmosphere surrounding The Rogue, it would be easy to write it off as tawdry entertainment before moving on to Dunn’s more authoritative tome. But that would be a mistake. Because within this book are scores of devastating anecdotes from people who speak on the record, as well as documented revelations about the extent of Palin’s religious extremism.
McGinness has decided to give the public insight into Palin the person—and not just Palin the politician. She comes across as lazy, self-obsessed, shallow, vindictive (though not quite as vengeful as her husband), utterly narcissistic, and relentlessly ambitious. She collects dependent acolytes and dumps people when they’re no longer useful.
By the end of The Rogue, McGinniss even has readers questioning if she truly gave birth to her son Trig. He’s the famous kid with Down’s syndrome, who cemented her standing as a maternal hero with the Christian right because she chose not to abort him. In this aspect of the Palin myth, McGinniss builds on the work of conservative blogger Andrew Sullivan.
If you want to know why such a detestable politician ever got selected as John McCain’s running mate on the Republican ticket, you’ll have to consult Dunn’s recent book.
He provides all the sordid details about how poorly she was vetted by the McCain camp. Dunn also does a far better job describing Palin’s policies as governor, including her abysmal treatment of starving aboriginal people in Alaska. But if you want to get a feel for how Palin’s neighbours despise her or for what a religious hypocrite she is, McGinness provides a more complete picture.
I could not concur more. If you can ONLY afford two Palin books this year, than these two wonderfully written books are your best choice hands down.
After you finish them you will not even allow Sarah Palin water your plants much less run your country.
Hi Sarah, Welcome Back!
ReplyDeleteQuick Question, Where's Trigs Birth Certificate?
I agree, they are both excellent.
ReplyDeleteStarving aboriginals? That's a bit much. And those are my friends, colleagues and neighbors we are talking about.
ReplyDeleteI hated her inaction though, as Chief Executive of the citizens we are speaking of, she did nothing for her most vulnerable constituents. While she taxed the snot out of oil companies in the robust gas market (giving the State billions in rainy day money) her villages were cold, dark and hungry. They were paying as much as $10 a gallon for heating fuel, leaving very little money for hunting supplies to get food on their tables, or buy overpriced stuff at the empty shelved stores.
And she lied to the press in front of our Native leaders that she called a teleconference with Emmonak leaders that very morning when questioned about her involvement - but that no one in Emo participated. So it was the villages fault she couldn't help them.
There was no such teleconference that morning.
Like taking credit for divesting PFD monies in Sudan, like taking on the Good Old Boys Club, like taking on Big Oil (AGIA, not ACES, she won on ACES but Parnell is going to reign that in) like being a maverick and going Rogue, she is nothing of her false narrative.
She is simply an extremely ambitious opportunist who has fallen bassackwards in luck, supported by a gang of thugs willing to break your legs to keep her in a positive light.
I gave up on Palin a long time ago.
ReplyDeleteYou should too.
The most important position in a Palin presidency would be the vice president. Most likely, she would quit half way through her presidency.
ReplyDeleteAgree. I bought and read both. This review is on the mark.
ReplyDeleteFor Sarah Palin to just fade away would be unconscionable; she needs to be held accountable for the wrecked lives she has left in her wake.
Totally agree Gryph. I have both, read both - and now will go back and read each again, more slowly this time for more detail.
ReplyDeleteI agree, Gryphen!
ReplyDeleteI purchased and read both of these books and very much enjoyed them. They are each well written and well researched. Will keep them in my library there is no doubt.
ReplyDeleteDown w/Sarah Palin!!!! Her fall from grace is not coming fast enough.
Hi Bristol!! Care to post Tripp's birth certificate so we can see when he was really born?
ReplyDeleteFor Sarah Palin to just fade away would be unconscionable; she needs to be held accountable for the wrecked lives she has left in her wake.

Wrecked lives? Her vitriolic divisiveness has wrecked much of what once made this country great - the ability to put aside differences and work together for the common good. Thanks to $carah even those who should be our statesmen and leaders have lowered themselves to barroom brawling (Yes, I mean you Eric)
I'm a convicted and contented atheist, but that idea of an eternal punishment for people like $carah makes me wish there was a god.

ReplyDeleteVery interesting and compelling comments. Thank you for posting them. I am sure there are hundreds more stories that would bring equal outrage, but the ones you tell are not so widely known. Please post more background as you are able.
You last paragraph says it all. But WHY is this the case? WHY are these powerful thugs (and yes, please call them out by name) so inextricably and utterly entwined (glued, actually) to an uncontrollable – and unelectable – person? What IS really going on here? What is the story behind this story?
Me too - totally agree w/you and all and will go back for another read on both. Thanks Gryph, Mr. Dunn and Mr. McGinniss, and all the others :)
ReplyDeleteI read both books and wasn't disappointed. Both authors did a good job of getting the truth out and the conclusion is that she is a fraud and a liar. Loved that Dunn said she was called the "Town Liar."
ReplyDeleteFor Sarah Palin to just fade away would be unconscionable
ReplyDeleteNo, for her to fade away WOULD be her just desserts.
She'll end up a frowzy has-been somewhere, with a cosmetic surgery wrecked face, stirring up discord in her circle of acquaintances and boring her friends about how important she ONCE was.
Dear Sarah,
ReplyDeleteI'm just putting the last of the dead bolts on the door
I forgot to nail shut in 2008.
buy-bye,
God
They're both great books on their own, but they converge and complement each other, yes, they're both must reads! What really shined through in Joe's, is his own humility, courage, and humanity while respecting the people of Alaska and their way of life.
ReplyDeleteI read and re read both books, and the book review is spot on.
Both books are important, because we must never, ever, let this happen to our country again. Sarah Palin is a female, but not a woman by any definition of the word.
Memory Lane:
ReplyDelete~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The best window into her thinking, perhaps, can be found in her own words on Aug. 12 when she talked expansively to reporters at the Iowa State Fair.
When asked whether the end of September was still the best timetable for her decision, she said: “Yes, definitely.”
“To be fair to those supporters and potential supporters, who are waiting on figuring out what the set field will be,” she said, “I want to be fair to them and make sure that they don’t feel like they are just hanging on to something that’s not going to happen.”

"to be fair"- Sarah Palin??? HAHAHAHAHa!
I have always loved Canada and the slightly more civilized Canadian way of life. But now my esteem for and gratitude to Canada grows with each positive (because fair-minded) review of these two books. If our MSM is too compromised by all the forces surrounding the TBagger and Palin phenomena, then at least we have a kind friend, looking over the border, and reminding us that the GOP currently has no clothes, and anyone who tries to say so is supressed in this Land of the Free.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Canadian press.
Yes, indeed: What is the story behind this story?
ReplyDeleteMust read Joe's blog entry about an Andrew Sullivan post- beieve it or not... Liz Trotta on Fox News and others who gave the book a fair and great review.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, Joe!
So I am rereading Meghan McCain's book because before Ijust skimmed it.
ReplyDeleteShe's really catty in it, in a lighthearted, youthful way. She digs at Romney, despite being in his camp now or until she wrote about Cain possibly winning.
It's weird. I wonder what Johnny boy McCain thinks of his daughters writing about the debauchery and "crazy sex" that Meghan illustrates pretty vividly on Presidential campaigns and in politics in general. .
That's what made me laugh the most.
@5:22 PM
ReplyDeleteMy best guess is that there are some bigger crimes being covered by smaller ones (Small being Trig's real parentage).
I have always thought that the real story here lies with Ms. S. Tripp and Toad's involvement in a prostitution ring.
Do they, whomever "they" may be. Have some compromising photos/sex tapes etc. on some giant Oil CFO? McCain? Someone even bigger?
One can only go hmmmm...why are these no-good wash up, hillbillies still being "protected" in the US media/political arena?
What an excellent post to come home to after being away from a computer for almost a week. Thanks Gryph. Now I have to spend many hours catching up!
ReplyDeleteCheck out the hank jr outrage. He stood with sarah singing about paling around with terrorist during the 2008 campaign. He is truly as vile as she is.
ReplyDeleteAll the polls that show her favorability ratings to be at an all-time low would cause most politicians to minimize any financial losses and pack their bags. Yet to compare Sarah Palin, the celebrity, to a politician, would be a mistake. She is NOT a politician. When she resigned as Governor, it was clear she was more interested in making money than holding elected office. Because making money is her primary objective, and running for office would guarantee more publicity, and thus more speaking opportunities, it seems likely that she would run. Moreover her future at Fox appears to be at an end.
ReplyDeleteConservatives4Palin have devoted an entire article to positioning Palin as the victim of unfair treatment by Fox. Conversly, Fox News seems to be fed up with Palin. With an end coming soon to her appearance on, and salary from, Fox, Sarah Palin will surely be desperate to find a way to stay relevant.
Others feel that a run by Palin might still happen. Here are five reasons cited as the explanation for why Palin will run:

i still cannot get beyond the baby's name: tripp.
ReplyDeletetripp. really?
and then we learn that toad is pimping out one ms. shailey TRIPP.
spelled the same way and everything.
coincidence? (i think not)

ReplyDeleteWorth watching this video of the demise of Sarah Palin in 100 seconds.
Oh Snap! Sorry, Anonymous at 3:46..I see you had already posted that and I have no way to go and delete my post. Damn! I usually read all the posts first, but I was in a hurry.
ReplyDeleteGuess we both wanted to make sure others watched this good video..and read the comments below. The one guy is so funny...clearly a panty sniffer of the first degree!
Todd Palin interview yesterday on KABC Radio with Stephen Bannon.

Maybe someone will do the rest of us a favor and listen and report back?
I don’t know if any IM posters have read this article, but it’s spot-on.

"these two wonderfully written books are your best choice"
ReplyDeleteI now have and appreciate both, but would trade them for Fred's. When?
Hey Sarah! Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteQuick question..
What happened to Ruffles?
H/T to JKK
LOL BOTH books arrived, in the same box, from Amazon today.
ReplyDeleteCharlie's a great writer...he drives the right wingers in Vancouver nuts.
ReplyDeleteLOL.

Could've fooled me. It doesn't look like it from here.
Can the residents of Alaska file a Class Action Lawsuit against Scarcrow LHP aka Twittler? She has destroyed so many lives here and caused undue suffering to many more! Anyone agree?
ReplyDeleteI think the FBI is still investigating: Fires, deaths, money funneling...
Oh Scarah, Orange will look so good on you and Toad!
Run Sarah Run...........your ass straight back to Wasila, stay there and shut your pie hole!!
