"Citizens for a Better Arizona" saddles up to form a "posse" to challenge racist icon Sheriff Joe Arapaio. Yeehaw!

Courtesy of the Washington Times:

The same Arizona group that took down the state’s leading immigration hard-liner is now gunning for its best-known lawman.

Fresh off a successful drive to oust Republican state Senate President Russell Pearce this month, leaders of Citizens for a Better Arizona announced this week that they plan to form a “citizens posse” to challenge Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio in his 2012 re-election bid. Sheriff Arpaio, who has carved out a national reputation for his no-nonsense treatment of lawbreakers in his county and for his running battles with the Obama administration and immigration advocates, is serving his fifth four-year term.

The group also is considering a recall election against Gov. Jan Brewer, a Republican, although organizers said they will do so only if at least 5,000 volunteers sign up online to circulate petitions.

“The main focus right now is Joe Arpaio. We’re looking at a bunch of different options to get rid of him,” said Chad Snow, chairman of Citizens for a Better Arizona.

The targeting of Sheriff Arpaio is the latest salvo in the state’s fierce political wars over the immigration issue. Both Mr. Pearce, who lost a recall election Nov. 8, and Sheriff Arpaio are known far beyond Arizona’s borders for their opposition to illegal immigration and efforts to tighten border security.

In my opinion this is WAY overdue. This guys is NOTHING but a huge embarrassment to the good people of Arizona.

Arizona deserves to have far better representation than Arpaio, Brewer, and that old guy who chose the Alaskan lunatic for his running mate.  Clearly they are all unfit for office, and not JUST because each of them has been a Sarah Palin supporter either.

Though of course THAT does not exactly help their cause either.

I was offended the moment I learned that an outside Sheriff was slapping pink cuffs on Alaskan female inmates before shipping them out-of-State to Arizona for incarceration.

Insulting and demeaning. What an asshole. And the crowd he runs around with, Jan and Sarah.

Look at me, I'm such a hot grandma that's also patriotic and Christian too and also an iconic image of a mother of a special needs son. . .I'm an "energy expert" with fungible commodities, a "best selling author" of fungible truths, and a whiz and a sharp dresser and whatnot according to my brain-trusts, Bristol (named both after Todd's region and ESPN headquarters) and Todd. Have you seen Todd?

  7. Joe isn't known here just for his hard-core stance on law and order.

He's also known for diverting as much as $100 million in county funds to his immigration sweeps (and yet to be penalized for), his docuemnted harassment of political opponents and county politicians by deputies, and his frequent violations of basic human rights. Maricopa County, his county, has also had an increasing crime rate for the past few years, while every other county in the state has had falling rates in all categories.

He has been under investigation for 3 years by the Federal Government for his rights violations, and we're all waiting for the other shoe to drop on that one.

Joe Arpaio is a bully, plain and simple. His grandstanding and general lack of concern about anyone other than himself has gone on for too long. Sound familiar to anyone?

I am very glad he's not my sheriff.

I wonder if Sarah bought the house in Arizona to make a run for office there?
Im sure there are laws about actually residing where you live, but it's a thought...

  9. Iconic photo. Nothing says patriotism like a prop on the hip and a hand on the heart, especially when it pulls back your sweater to reveal you are wearing the equivalent of lingerie.

Unfortunately, here in AZ we've got a long history of electing incompetent imbeciles and crooks.

I'm waiting to find out how much in "finder's fees" Arpaio has "earned" for putting people into our for-profit prison system. It was no surprise that he thinks illegal immigrants should be put in prison instead of "getting a free ride home"...

  12. Kudos to 'Citizens FBA" for their efforts in restoring some honor and dignity to the political nightmare that seemed to be engulfing Arizona.

I was offended years ago when Arapaio dressed his male prisoners in pink as his lame attempt to humiliate them. Did the women in AZ not take offense to his suggestion that somehow being female was somehow loathsome or vile? He was even able to have a webcam installed in the jail booking center. It certainly didn't have much of a human rights or rehabilitative ring to it.

It's taken far too long for someone to question his demoralizing and questionable tactics but better late than never. I hope they are also connecting the dots to his financial interests in privatized jails and prisons in AZ. They will have to dig very deep to discover all the ugly with this guy and I look forward to seeing his perp walk on the national news. He'll look just fine in the classic black/white striped jail pajamas.

Arapaio is a monster and has created hellhole jails. Check the story of the beating death of JuanFarias Mendez:

I've always said Trig looks just like Levi and it's a part of the whole babygate story that sickens me the most. Levi and brisdull both knew what fate they handed that baby when they gave him up to this grizzled mama. They're all continuing the lie because they'll be hated once it comes out.

Palin is still playing the sympathy card on this child with her fake thanksgiving message and I'm so sick of that skank using him for her martyrdom purposes.

I caught about 15 seconds of the "reality" show that features Arapaio and his posse strutting around and arresting immigrants in the desert. That was about all I could take of that - 15 seconds - and then I had to deal with flu-like symptoms for the rest of the evening.

I sure hope that Brenden is right, I'd LOVE to see that guy frog marched off to the federal pen in an orange jumpsuit and cuffs.

Racist bastard. Let me correct that - Violent, ignorant, UGLY, racist bastard. There, that's better.

Sheriff Joe Arpaio has a lot of problems.

    blogs.phoenixnewtimes.com/valleyfever/2011/11/new_times_wins_appeal_lawsuit.php

The Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled today that it will re-hear New Times' lawsuit against Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio and others over the 2007 arrest of its founders after our newspaper published an article about a grand jury that -- the public would later learn -- didn't actually exist.

In June, a three-member panel of the court upheld a lower court's ruling that the lawsuit could proceed. However, it couldn't target Arpaio and his former political comrade, disgraced former County Attorney Andrew Thomas, because their gigs as public officials granted them immunity from this sort of litigation.

What was the NON EXISTENT GRAND JURY after?

Wilenchick concocted absurdly broad grand jury subpoenas. For example, they called for New Times to turn over to prosecutors the identities of every person who'd clicked on stories about Arpaio on the New Times Web site over a period of years. The grand jury for which these subpoenas were intended never actually existed, as the public learned after New Times revealed its faux-demands in an article that can be seen here.

After revealing the secret demands of a non-existent grand jury, Arpaio had Lacey and Larkin dragged out of their homes and thrown in jail. Larkin was released hours later, and Lacey was let go the next morning.

  20. Thanks Brendan for saying what I would have. When I lived in Maricopa County, this law abiding citizen was afraid of him. If he decided he didn't like you for whatever reason, you would be harassed until he could bring you down on whatever charges he could dream up. He has cost Maricopa county millions in lost law suits. I wish the Posse well. It is long past due.

I'm so proud of this group. With Sarah's defeat, those she backed will face similar groups. I feel badly for the people of Arizona, they get a bad rep because of the idiots they have in office. Arpaio is full of himself, Brewer always looks like she's about to fall of the edge of the earth, or go into brain freeze mode, and their most famous citizen, Grandma Sarah, well fill in the blanks.
