Congressman Don Young shames ALL Alaskans once again.

Good God!  What an asshole!

Here is the transcript from the Fairbanks NewsMiner:

YOUNG: Thank you, Chairman. And thanks for having this hearing. I -- I will tell you if you ever want to see an exercise in futility, it's this hearing. That side's already made up its mind. This side has already made up its mind. And I call it garbage, Dr. Rice, that comes from the mouth...

BRINKLEY: Dr. Brinkley. Rice is a university. I know you went to Yuba College and you couldn't graduate.

YOUNG: Well, OK...

(CROSSTALK)

BRINKLEY: (Inaudible)...

(CROSSTALK)

YOUNG: ... call anything I want while you sat in that chair.

BRINKLEY: Pardon?

YOUNG: You just be quiet.

BRINKLEY: Well...

YOUNG: You be quiet.

BRINKLEY: You don't own me. I pay your salary.

YOUNG: I'll tell you right now...

HASTINGS: The gentleman will suspend. And I'll remind -- I'll remind members and I'll remind...

At this point Chairman Hastings had to interrupt before Young threatened to have the Dr. Brinkley hanged for daring to correct him. (And I have little doubt that Sarah Palin would volunteer to "bring the rope" as well.)

This extremely unreasonable exchange came during  a Congressional hearing into whether or not to keep ANWR off limits for oil drilling.  I can say that while the majority of Alaskans support drilling in ANWR, because it would benefit their pocketbooks, I doubt very seriously they support Rep. Young acting like a common schoolyard bully.

The sad thing is that Young will undoubtedly stay our representative until he becomes too old to hold the position, or passes away.  Alaskans seem unduly tolerant of assholes in high places so long as they believe they are working on their behalf.

Personally I think the only person that Don Young does anything to benefit anymore, is Don Young. As evidenced by the fact that he has missed more votes than ANY OTHER member of Congress who is NOT seriously ill or currently running for the GOP nomination.

Essentially the man is a dinosaur and I look forward to the day we can replace him with somebody who can actually do the job, and not embarrass the entire state while doing it!

(I would be remiss if I did not mention that Mudflats had this exchange up yesterday, with some interesting observations that are well worth reading.)

It was fun to see someone remind a politician that their salaries comes from tax payers, because most of these crooks and liars have forgotten who they work for.

There's nothing more annoying than a US congress person prattling pompously about their dedication to "public service".

Pointing out that Young failed to graduate from Yuba Community College was a victory for elitist campers everywhere!

Young is a loathsome, odious little turd. The witnesses and guests who appear before House committees CLEARLY have their names displayed in front of them for all members to see. Young either is too stupid to read or he is intentionally being a pissy little shit.

How would Young feel about being called "Mr. Alaska" by Brinkley?

And Chairman Hastings wasn't much better. I'm sure he'd have gone ballistic if he'd been addressed as "Mr. House Natural Resources Committee."

Young is simply an arrogant little prick. Who the fuck does he think he is to tell Dr. Brinkley "I'll call you anything I want while you sit in that chair?"

Why is this asshole still in DC?

Is there anyone in your Congressional and State delegations who aren't an embarrassment? People complain about Chicago and its reputation for crooked pols but this is ridiculous. Yet another reason to hate on Sara. Before she came along Alaska could just sit up there and be crazy as hell and no one cared. Now people are watching and it's quite the scene

So once again an uneducated buffoon feels the great urge to "take an elitist" down a peg. This is what happens when you elect the uneducated. There inherent insecurity is shining through full force, not to mention their God complexes. Eww.

I sent him an e-mail message saying that his behavior was uncalled for and embarrassing. Not that it will do any good.

  10. Oh my. What makes it all just too, too, precious is that Mr. Young seems to have gotten Sarah Palin's recipe for word salad. Reading the transcript is a hoot. Have to wonder about the issues of a man who seems determined to humiliate someone who seems arguably smarter than he is. I'm not from Alaska, so to me it's a no-brainer--there are areas that need to be left alone. I might feel differently if I thought I would benefit from it (don't mean to sound venal here, but hey, I do consider my pocketbook when I vote). Thing is, the guy just loses all dignity. He might have proven that as a congressman he gets to browbeat whoever is sitting in The Chair, but IMHO he lost all credibility.

I didn't waste wisp space on sending Dungus an email telling him what an immature, undignified, rude person he is.

But I sure got a laugh watching his face puff up. I thought steam was gonna start pouring out of his ear.

Poor intern. Hope she was able to dodge the fallout. You know off camera, behind the scenes was a nightmare.

I can hardly wait to see what MY congressman, 10 termer and Head of Ways and Means AND a member of the failed committee, Dave Camp, has to say when he comes home for Thanksgiving. Oh, wait, he doesn't hold town halls here in Midland...he's afraid of those of us who follow what he does and expect accountability from him. we asked him NOT to sign Norquist's deal with the devil. We've asked him to UNSIGN it, and he's 'not ready to do that yet." Right, Dave...are you ready now? Because there is no way in hell that the precious budget can ever be balanced without revenue. From the top. Now.

  13. It is amazing that Sean Parnell almost wiped that grin off Don Young's face a few years ago.

That's how little we think of Yon Dung - because we don't think much of Sean Parnell.

Young wasn't in school the day they taught that respect is a two way street. Not calling a person by their name is bad enough, but leaving out his title is even worse.

I'm embarrassed for him, and I feel badly for anyone he represents.

6:24 pm. Dave Camp, known as "Rubber Stamp Dave Camp" during the Bush years, is also my Congressman. We always thought that he never came to northwest lower MI because he was so busy in the Midland area. I'm not surprised that he failed as a member of the "Super" Committee - he only supports the "unborn." Anyone who has actually been born is completely on his or her own. Those of us represented by Republicans in either the House or the Senate spend a lot of time banging our heads on our desks and sending emails begging our Senators or Representatives to start doing their jobs and representing the people, not just corporations or the unborn!

Every time a politician claims that we need to "drill here, drill now because America needs that oil"
Someone needs to point out that America doesn't GET that oil at any reduced rate. It doesn't make a nickel's worth of difference if we buy it from Saudi Arabia or from the Alaska oil fields - because the oil companies are NOT American oil companies - they're multi-national oil companies and they couldn't care less about America. They're in it for the money.

So "drill, baby, drill" is easy to remember, but it's bullshit, baby, bullshit.

Maybe it's time we socialize an oil company? I'm suggesting, perhaps, a government-owned oil company that drills oil that is exclusively sold here in America!

Now THAT would truly help get us off the foreign-oil tit.
