Sarah Palin advisor appears on 60 Minutes discussing his new book, as talk swirls of a possible Palin endorsement. But will any of the GOP candidates accept it?

From Real Clear Politics:

If Sarah Palin had run for president, Sunday night's episode of "60 Minutes" likely would have marked a significant moment for her campaign. In the venerable CBS News program's opening segment, Hoover Institute fellow and Palin adviser Peter Schweizer previewed his forthcoming book, "Throw Them All Out," which details allegations of legal, yet ethically dubious insider trading and conflicts of interest among members of Congress. “There are all sorts of forms of honest graft that congressmen engage in that allow them to become very, very wealthy,”

Schweizer told correspondent Steve Kroft. “So it's not illegal, but I think it's highly unethical, I think it's highly offensive, and wrong.” Schweizer has been described in various news reports as a “foreign policy adviser” and a “speechwriter” for Palin. In fact, he is both of those things, and far more than that.

Though he has managed to stay largely under the radar until now, Schweizer’s influence on Palin since joining her staff last spring has been profound.

When Palin was still mulling a presidential run back in September, she delivered a closely watched speech in Iowa that served as a preview of sorts for Schweizer’s new book. In the speech, it was the former Alaska governor’s references to “crony capitalism” and “the permanent political class” that picked up the most attention -- buzz phrases that appear near the very beginning of Schweizer’s new tome.

“This is a book about how a Permanent Political Class, composed of politicians and their friends, engages in honest graft,” Schweizer writes in the introduction to his book, which goes on sale Tuesday. “Let’s call it crony capitalism.”

Along with Steven K. Bannon, the filmmaker behind the pro-Palin documentary “The Undefeated,” Schweizer’s influence has been instrumental in leading Palin to a renewed focus on her political roots as a reformer.

Like much of Palin's personal mythology the idea that she was a "Reformer" is also based on misinformation.

What Palin did was hold her finger up in the the air to see which way the wind was blowing and shaped her campaign to fit what Alaskans were clamoring for, a fresh start and an end to the "Corrupt Bastards" siding with the oil companies at the expense of the people and lining their pockets with oil soaked dollar bills for their trouble.

Then Palin simply signed on to reform ideas that originated with the Democrats, and hijacked them for herself.  But behind the scenes she was quickly revealing herself to be every bit as underhanded and corrupt as the "good old boys" she was claiming to have replaced. Essentially promising transparency, while covering everything she did in a cloak of secrecy.

Remember this is a woman who hacked opinion polls to make herself seem more popular, and wrote letters to the editor with other people's signatures to create the illusion that she was beloved. And while that was going on she was breaking the laws, or bending the ethical guidelines, whenever they got between her and whatever it was she wanted.

Palin, like many Alaskan politicians, was at her core an opportunist.

And speaking of opportunity:

Palin’s image as a good-government stalwart defined her early success in Alaska but was largely forgotten after her 2008 vice presidential run, when she was defined by her hard-right conservatism and penchant for rhetorical bomb-throwing. ("Cough, cough, cough mooseshit! Sorry there was something caught in my throat.")

But now Bannon is considering embarking on a new film project based on many of the themes in Schweizer’s book, and Palin appears ready to reinsert herself more prominently into the 2012 fray, though not as a candidate.

Palin’s soon-to-be-amplified voice on the matters drawn out in Schweizer’s book will no doubt have some impact on the presidential campaign going forward, and her endorsement would be welcomed with open arms by any of the major GOP contenders.

So it appears that this is an orchestrated effort to ease Palin back into the national stage, by having this Shweizer guy lay some groundwork, have Bannon fertilize the soil with his patented propaganda bullshit, and then trot the Grizzled Mama out as the putrid rose of the conservative party.

After watching the current crop of nominees competing with each other to see who could make a bigger mockery out of the candidacy, it was really only  matter of time before Palin saw her opportunity to sweep in and suck the oxygen out of the room and provide a new shiny bauble for the reporters and political pundits to gawk at.

However I really CANNOT imagine who would be willing to strap the albatross of a Palin endorsement around their neck at this point.

Romney would not let her within a hundred yards of his campaign, Perry certainly does not need to attract another gaffe machine to his side, Newt might have welcomed her once but not now while he is at the top of the polls, and old Black Walnut is just one more scandal away from having to leave the country entirely. Bachmann already has the crazy female conservative thing locked up, Huntsman would rather people forget he introduced her to the RNC originally, and Santorum would rather spend all day Googling his name than allow her anywehre near him.

So Palin might be walking around with an endorsement that she cannot even give away, much less have anybody clamoring for.

Well anyhow the walking fright wig is on Greta tonight so I imagine we will soon know what hateful talking points and divisive tactics she has up her sleeves for THIS political season. I just hope that this time none of our Representatives end up shot in the head.

All the PAC donations were paid to this man, (along with $15,000 a month for a secretary; the heaths for opening mail) so that Sarah could be his parrot. Her words are not a product of her thoughts or conclusions--go figure.

Didn't she quit so she could improve the lives of all children. I'm sure buying an Arizona mansion, and teaching American History, etc., is somehow
    achieving that goal.

I've been kinda wondering what good old granny grifter was up to these days. Here we go again. Wonder how many hints she'll drop so the seaofpeer's get all riled up and start opening up their near empty wallets again. Cash flow when you're not getting the limelight can be a real bitch. All those people she's paying to keep silent, the endless shopping spree's for clothes most people wouldn't buy - what's a girl to do to get back in the forefront of the news? That's it! She'll hint she'll be amenable to a draft effort. Get those petitions ready their you crazies.

bonus funny on this topic - the C4Pers truly believe that this is Sarah's idea -- that SHE brought it up (after Peter S joined her staff, but apparently before he researched and wrote this book)...they don't see that HE gave HER this "issue" as part of his "advice" to her before she predictably chickened out on a presidential run.

Their ranks are dwindling, and only the true hard core, delusional, very funny and scary ones are left. Worth a look from time to time...lots of prayers to and about Sarah, lots of discussions about her "upcoming decision" to reconsider or not, pledges to by billboards encouraging her, etc.

They don't like anyone else - no candidates, not Rush, not Tammy Bruce, not Beck, they hate the Giffords and "pollutico," pretty much everyone except saint sarah.

C'mon Gryphen---you know among the current clown and ass show almost all of the GOP non-candidates would be ecstatic for an endorsement from the manic moron. All they want is attention to sell their books. Sarah will act an ass and pull her skirt over her head to oblige.

  6. You said it Gryphen! What new torture does the Wasilla Wambat have in store for us tonight? It better be good otherwise the zoo folks are going to be storming the Hillbilly compound with pitchforks and torches!

Those poor fools are on EDGE! They are hoping the Crazy woman will RECONSIDER running! That's how far gone those idiots have sunk...so of course I had to venture over the Peepond to see what they were saying about the upcoming interview with Greta Vanwhathsherface...

SSHHH...everybody be quiet otherwise we may startle the crazies...

I hope Greta doesn't trap GOv.Palin into denying she's reconsidering. Of course, if she's asked she's gonna deny because she wants her plans under wraps for the moment. So, we have to be prepared for that eventuality and even if she denies makes sure we proceed with our plans. OK?

wisetrog = Word egg salad with a splash of stupidity. And on that note...I left.

Giffords was 'troubled' by Palin crosshairs

Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.) was "troubled" by a crosshairs chart that appeared on Sarah Palin's Facebook page, showing the congresswoman a target.

"She was troubled that her district was one of twenty targeted on Sarah Palin's Facebook page and website," Giffords' husband, Mark Kelly, writes in their book "Gabby: A Story of Courage and Hope."

Kelly recounts that Giffords' told him that "Palin's rhetoric had no place in political discourse." "It sends the wrong messages," he recalls Giffords saying. "It's a dangerous thing to do."

In March 2010, Palin posted a map lawmakers she wanted targeted in the election, one of which was Giffords. The map featured crosshair images on those districts.

Kelly points out that after Giffords voted for the Democrats' healthcare legislation that year, someone shot out the glass door and side window of her office and that her staffers "feared for their safety."

After Giffords' was injured in the Jan. 8th shooting in Tucson, Ariz., Kelly writes that Palin's "rhetoric came quickly into my head." He notes that when President Obama called to express his condolences, "I told him Gabby and I had found Palin's website troubling." He admits he "vented" to Obama about his frustrations and that the president listened to his complaints without "commenting on them directly."

Kelly admits "I don't know if the shooter in Tucson even looked at Sarah Palin's website" but he notes politicians "need to tone it down, speak more respectfully."

He writes that Palin, who was contemplating a presidential bid at the time, never called although he was told by Palin adviser John Coale that "Sarah and her husband, Todd, were 'devastated' by the tragedy."

Palin, at the time, posted a note on her Facebook page: "My sincere condolences are offered to the family of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and the other victims of today's tragic shooting in Arizona. On behalf of Todd and my family, we all pray for the victims and their families, and for peace and justice," she wrote.

But Kelly writes: "I thought Sarah Palin might call to say she wished Gabby well and that she was praying for her and the other victims. We heard from many Republicans offering heart-felt messages. Given that a lot of the discussion in the wake of the shooting had singled out Palin, I expected she might also want to clear the air."

He even imagined what he would say to Palin, writing he planned to "graciously accept her words of consolation" and then add his own thoughts: "'You are not responsible,' I planned to tell Sarah Palin, 'But you are irresponsible.'"

But "she never called," he notes.

Kelly and Giffords' book was released Tuesday.

Gabby Giffords Special Ruined by Gratuitous Attack on Sarah Palin, Tea Party

The ABC News "20 20" special with Diane Sawyer that chronicled the struggle of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords to regain her faculties after a brain injury as the result of a shooting in January was-for the most part-heart-warming and inspirational.

The documentary, which also contained the first public interview with Giffords since the shooting, was ruined by a gratuitous attack on tea party opponents of health care reform and on Sarah Palin toward the end of the one-hour special. A short segment showed Giffords confronting an angry crowd of constituents at a town hall meeting. Palin was shown briefly, as was the infamous cross hairs map.

The segment was shown without context or detail. As Giffords is deservedly a national heroine because of how far she has recovered, the segment gave the clear impression of tea partiers as an angry mob and Sarah Palin as the cause of the shooting.

ABC News and Sawyer committed journalistic malpractice by dredging up the old accusations without also showing evidence that debunked them. Palin and her map had nothing to do with Giffords' shooting, as was implied in the segment. Jared Loughner, Giffords' assailant, was an insane man who likely never heard of Palin and certainly was unaware of the cross hairs map. Yet ABC chose not to mention this.

Before I clicked on the link to the RCP article, I knew it was written by Scott Conroy. He's the one who couldn't contain his excitement over his "exclusive scoop" on Palin's "vacation bus tour" AKA stomp on Romney's POTUS candidacy announcement.

When Palin admitted she's not running for POTUS, @DaveWeigel facetiously tweeted:

    Give. Me. A. Break.

    1. The Tea Party IS an angry mob, and they carry guns.

    2. Whether there is any hard-core proof that $arah Palin's cross-hairs were the cause of the shootings is irrelevent. As Gabrielle Giffords said before she was shot, there are consequences when people do stuff like that. If $arah Palin didn't want to be forever associated with a mass shooting, she should have thought about that before she used those cross-hairs. Those are the CONSEQUENCES.

    3. Gabrielle Giffords was shot in the head, and several people were killed, yet all $arah Palin and the Tea Party care about is their hurt feelings. Boo-hoo. Fuck them.

  27. The RCP article, and probably 60 Minutes, forgot to credit Schweizer as one of Andrew Breibart's regular columnists. Is he not proud of this distinction?

I wonder how Schweizer and Bannon spin the revelations that Palin is mentally ill. They should save themselves some grief and listen to Gryphen. The only future guaranteed by latching on to Palin is one of embarrassment.

I wish 60 Minutes would tackle the problem of the VP nomination process and the failure of the McCain campaign and our system to deal with an emotionally ill candidate. And also interview Joe McGinniss to discuss the problem of media failure and censorship that prevents full coverage of political figures.
