"Well they couldn't have gone far. Most of them are too old, infirm, or ignorant to leave their houses." |
The just-released Arbitron report reveals that a lot less people are listening to right-wing talk radio.
With a lull in ratings since November, Rush Limbaugh had a 3.0 share of listeners for his radio time slot, which is a 33% slide from October and from last April, reports Crain's Business.
Meanwhile, The Sean Hannity Show was reported to be down 28% from its peak numbers in the fall.
Rush's show is hemorrhaging listeners, Hannity is losing support, and NOBODY wants to watch a Palin family member do ANYTHING.
Considering that we are headed into a rather contentious election year, that is HUGE!
I certainly looks like Americans are staring to smarten up. About damn time!
Or.....the audiences for talk radio and Fox News programs might just simply be dying off.
That IS good news to start my day with!! Sadly, Rushie still reigns supreme here in SW Virginia... of late, I make it a point to avoid places that play RW radio or Fox "News" ask them if they would change the channel in the waiting room.
ReplyDeleteYes, alot are dying off and I do no feel bad about it. So many of my parents generation are just bigotted, uneducated and feel very superior in their white catholic republicanism.
ReplyDeleteI beleive the worls is a better place without them. They are sort of pitiful now. Full of sadness, hate and ill health, waiting for their great reward in the great beyond while being angry at their god for their predicaments.
Hmm, I think radio is slowly dying off. I think it's weird that so many people have radio shows.
ReplyDeleteThere's really no difference between right and left wing propaganda. Most networks and stations have an agenda and both leave out important information.
These days, it's nearly impossible to know truth. Blogs report rumors and lies as fact, major networks skirt topics trying not to ruffle bigwigs feathers, lawmakers lie through their teeth and think with their little heads, Obama is becoming a second Bush, unemplyment is worse than ever, democrats continue catering to the intellectually- incapable and needy folk, Republicans are clearly enjoying their pissing contest....
Duhhhh, Never thought I'd say this but Im about to move to Germany on a permanent vacation to visit a friend. EXCEPT, this German friend is finding lucrative success OVER HERE.
What's wrong here? Foreigners and illegals are the only happy US residents?????!!!!! Well, them and southerners who don't complain about much and live their OWN lives.
They're dying off is right. I don't know anyone under the age of 50 who listens to this shit.
ReplyDeleteI agree that many of them are dying off and the others are being committed to mental heath facilities or plotting to join the Armed Idiots Revolt (because as we all know there is a war on Christmas).
ReplyDeleteI also think the stupid just reached mass quantity as there was just so many places to go for it these last few years.
This is fabulous news! I am so tired of hate radio. Maybe, just maybe, this congress has accomplished something afterall!
ReplyDeleteYou know what else is down? Unemployment - 8.6% in November. The lowest it's been since March 2009 (and down from 9% in October). Still high, but definitely headed in the right direction.
ReplyDeleteThe age of right wingers is the most important player in these numbers. I do believe that they are dying off, becoming too senile to turn on the radio, moved in with their kids who refuse to allow such nonsense in the house, and they can't find their reading glasses to get the right channel. IN my own personal experiences with people who have Alzheimers, the ONLY upside to it is that people who were assholes before they got it usually can't remember anything long enough to be assholish about it.

Top of the morning to ya' Troll! I see you had trouble sleeping and have left your troll droppings in all of Gryphen's comments! That Meth keeping you up again?
So ya' moving to Germany huh? What...you don't think people can't laugh at you overseas? Remember you are a INTERNATIONAL JOKE...history lesson here...Germany is INTERNATIONAL! So good luck with that Gov Dirty Wig™!!
Well, I've never thought the audience for these shows are representative of a majority of Americans. Let's also keep in mind that rightwingers expend a lot of efforts to keep large swathes of groups of voters from the polls. If their ideas were truly popular among the majority of Americans, they simply would not need to do this.
ReplyDelete3:12 am: "What's wrong here? Foreigners and illegals are the only happy US residents?????!!!!! Well, them and southerners who don't complain about much and live their OWN lives."
ReplyDeleteI live in a very rural Southern county and people from just about every spectrum are articulating their concerns, loudly and regularly. Unemployment is rampant, poverty is becoming more and more widespread, and you darn well better believe people are complaining about it. And that's a good thing!
Or would you prefer to believe that Southerners keep their opinions to themselves?

Shut up idiot.
Don't lump all older people in with those rwnj's.I'm 62 and hate that shit.I think there is something in the water with these people that makes them angry and stupid. These assholes have always been around and long after all of us here are gone they will still be around.Ignorance and hatred know no age limits.
ReplyDeleteGreat news.
ReplyDeleteIf anything you'd think hate radio's ratings would be UP with the media whipping everybody into a frenzy over the current Republican horse race.
But the pathetic slate of unelectable Repug candidates (and Obama beating them all in the polls) must really be taking the wind out of their sails.
Gawd, Sarah must be SOOOOOOOOO gnashing her teeth that she just didn't dare throw her wig into the ring of sorry losers and shake things up.
So why didn't you dare, Sarah? LOL.
Hey anonymous @ 3:18 am, you are an uninformed and ignorant person.
ReplyDeletePresident Obama is too much a centrist, and tried to compromise too much in the first couple years of his term, I'll grant you that.
But he's not a feckless, craven fool willing to invade a sovereign nation with no knowledge of their traditions or tribal culture under FALSE PRETENSES of "WMD".
Bush even made a joke about weapons of mass destruction not found under his desk.
Mission accomplished?
Sure, 4500 brave US soldiers dead, 100,000 seriously wounded, a Trillion dollars wasted, and a needless 10 year war.
AND YOU ARE WRONG about it being impossible to know the truth.
DEAD WRONG.
Anyone can read the congressional records online.
ANyone can watch CSPan, and watch the wholly owned lobbyists masquerading as Congress on TV.
ANd finally, you think only people in the South are the only happy ones? Utter crap!
Your post is insincere, inaccurate, and one of the most troll-like I've seen on IM in a long time.
Find something else to do you you twit!
Anon3:04am nails it. My rabid Beck/Rush relatives are impatient for Jesus to return and put all those heathens and sinners in their place.
ReplyDeleteThe Harold Camping prediction of Rapture May 21, 2011 and Apocalypse on Oct 21, 2011 has made some of my relatives very depressed and angry - where is Jesus? The next big date is Dec 21, 2012.
Their hatefulness toward our President (He's the Anti-Christ!/a Secret Muslim!/follows angry Black Social Justice preachers!) and existential fear of having their belief systems challenged is undermining their their own health.
I am a 68 year old white southern woman. I do not watch Fox or listen to Rush and would never ever vote for any Republican. Republicans have always only been for the rich. Now they are totally crazy.
ReplyDeleteWhat is a radio?
ReplyDeleteAfter the initial excitement of having Sarah Palin initiate a national forum for the far rights' hatred, paranoia and fear, joined by other nutjobs as she faded out, I think 'her' people have finally tired of the ugliness, the vitriol, weary of trying to admire stupidity. Some dim memories of an America where people where kind and hopeful might be emerging in many. Not all, no doubt, the crazies and fanatics are still crazy and fanatic, but the majority of Americans aren't either, the final straw seems to be this year's GOP dismal assortment of Presidential candidates.
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile, our President continues steadily trying to get things done, with dignity and focus, never losing his good will or his concern for all people, his family an example of the family values the far right is always harping about (while often not living).
Like the sun coming out after a bad storm, it might seem sanity is rising up and a lot of gullible people are coming to their senses.
Palin, Beck, Limbough...the voices of hate & fear. People are turning away at last. Exciting for a while for those feeling disenfranchised, wow, power at last!, but over time is just seen for what it is, and it isn't a feel-good way to live. The far-right is all about emotions, hatred and anger wear out in time and feeling good seems a better option.
That the hate is fizzling before the next election is simply wonderful.

And Right Wing hate talk show, Doug Urbanski has been canceled also too. I think people are finally getting sick of the hate and brainwashing from the conservative talk shows.
ReplyDeleteSorry to rain on the celebration, but comparing numbers now to those during the Lipton-lapper excitement of 2010 probably doesn't mean what we'd like it to mean. I sure hope, though, that given the poor performance and near-record-low approval ratings of many of the Lipton-lappers who were elected, those who supported and promoted them prior to the election have made them selves less relevant in the minds of their listeners.
ReplyDeleteInteresting, too, that all those Constitution and freedom lovin' Lipton-lapping lapdogs just voted to trash the Constitution and approve unlimited arrest/detention without show of cause. And sad as hell that Obama has said he won't veto it.
Thankfully, this could be a sign people are starting to wake up and go to the next level, and seriously decide if they want the sensationalized, slick, irrational, narcissistic crowds to endorse/run the country or NOT. Looks like they're priming for NOT.
ReplyDeleteWhat are these buffoons like Rush going to do now? Even Hannity can't enjoy a good dialogue with Juan Williams anymore, cause Juan is maybe seeing the light from the dark Fox machine.
Clearly the troll at 3:12 has not lived in small southern towns. Everyone lives everyone else's lives..you can't fart without the whole town knowing it within 3 minutes! They do not live their "OWN" lives (and why was that capitalized anyway?) They are also not particularly wealthy or happy. They are very racist and outspoken. They talk about the "War of Northern Agression" as though it happened last year.
ReplyDeleteI hope you do move to Germany and stay there. I have spent time in Germany and, frankly, they will not like you either.
I am 65 years old and never, ever, listen to the radio other than the news the first thing in the morning while in the shower. So,not all old people like talk radio. But I loved reading this post today, as I hate Rush and his ilk.
My mom and dad are in their late 60s and mid 70s, respectfully, and they are extremely politically progressive. I am extremely lucky to have been raised by them.
ReplyDelete"Obama is becoming a second Bush"
ReplyDeleteSTFU President Obama is far from the nut you chose to put in office.
Obviously a nutbag repugbagger are the only ones who believe your lies.
Please get sick and refuse to use any help from the government or do anything that can be misconceived as
"socialistic"
GTFOH
Well, I think a lot of Limbaugh, et al's listeners may just be aging out. I.E. Dieing.
ReplyDeleteIT'S THEM DEMKRAT DETH PANLES KILLIN TEH OLDERLY!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteOh, good! The Palin Fairy Tale Troll ("Um," "Hmm," "I don't know,") is moving to Germany. Yay! Now she can be quiet about what America's like, since she'll be an ex-pat. Maybe she can go post on German blogs about how great Palin is. Good times!
ReplyDelete@ 3:12 a.m.
ReplyDeleteDon't let the door hit your backside on the way out. Better yet, can we help you pack?
@ 7:03 and others
ReplyDeleteGryphen pointing out that Rush's listeners are primarily older does not imply that all those who are old are Rush listeners.
Get thee to a Venn diagram for clarification.
Yay! Buh bye.
ReplyDeleteI've listened to Rush (one time) and Beck (a few times. His past TV show on TeaNN).
Hearing them, I got the same feeling as I do when I use a public men's toilet. When the person before me didn't flush.
Okay, I'll do it since the last person was some self important, uncaring, not civil nor civilized, dolt. Though I'll call them some choice graphic words. Like one which rhymes with duck.
I'm glad enough people are finally flushing the tea media right into oblivion. It's time the rest of us got their stench and taint out of the USA.
Buh bye. Yay!
Why would anyone listen to the drug addicted and drug addled ramblings of a self proclaimed family values guy, who was a sex tourist caught with unprescribed viagra, and has been married 4 times. Just which family values are you for Rush? Must be the ones you can talk about, but can't live up to.

Anon 3:12 am You are so wrong. There is a difference between left and right radio.
ReplyDeleteLeftwing radio DOES NOT preach hate, and encourage and prod violence and discord in the nation. Rightwing radio does do those things.
Again picking on the old folks as the audience of Limpbaugh??? Funny, the only people I know of in his audience are mid 30's to 40's, white males with blue collars with a few of them holding union cards. Guess our perspective depends on where we worked and I worked for many years in a major construction company. Can't recall anyone in our admin offices sharing the Limp love.
ReplyDeleteAs many of us who were children of liberals who raised our children as liberals wouldn't the same hold true for the right-wing knuckle dragging crowd? Anyone ever watch JesusCamp?
Bigots and religious fundies come in all sizes, shapes, colors and ages. Perhaps there are some around here who believe that an evil genie pops out of the birthday cake and shazams you when one hits the 55+ birthdays.
Don't lump all older people in with those rwnj's.I'm 62 and hate that shit.I think there is something in the water with these people that makes them angry and stupid. These assholes have always been around and long after all of us here are gone they will still be around.Ignorance and hatred know no age limits.
ReplyDelete******************************
I am 62 and I don't call myself older. My husband is 70. We are southerners. We do not listen to right wing hate. Never have, never will. I agree with you that there is no age limit on ignorance, hatred or bigotry which is a combination of the first two!
Hey, I'm in the old fart age that are considered the right wing bangers, but I certainly think they are a bunch of farts and I wouldn't have anything to do with all of that right wing crap. I just want to let you all know there are some of us out here in that old fart category that are reasonable, caring, loving people who can smell that crap when we're getting closer to out and we go the other way while pinching out noses! The old fart category were against the establishment in the 1960s, and they demonstrated, and they're still against the establishment and demonstrating!
ReplyDeleteGe-e-e-e-e-s-h!
Is Rush not still giving away airtime throughout entire swaths of the midwest?
ReplyDeleteI'd wager that a big part of the drop comes from white, male, blue collar union members who have FINALLY gotten a clue as to the reality of the right-wing agenda. I live in Wisconsin, an I'm hearing stories all the time of formerly R-voting union members who are now shifting over to the D way of thinking. Hopefully, our shiftless governor will be recalled due to these votes. For every crossover it's a net lost of 2, so I'm thinking we've got a good chance.
ReplyDeleteI think it's the Glenn Beck syndrome... eventually, who wants to listen to gloom, doom and hate every single day? Sooner or later you start to see through it or just get burnt out on it. Glenn crashed and burned fastest because his show was the most dreadfully boring, gloomy and preachy of them all.
ReplyDeleteHannity at least has guests that the right wing consumer might be interested in. Rush is pretty much the right wing equivalent of a comedian, so as long as you like his unique "comedy stylings" you might hang on longer before getting bored.
And then yeah, there's the fact of their primary demographic kicking the bucket over time and not being replaced.
I wonder how Rush's tea enterprise went? LOL
I certainly don't believe that all old people, or even a majority of old people, listen to Rush and other right wing nutbags. I just know that poll numbers have shown that much of the audience for right wing radio is over 65. It's like that old logic thingy...All ravens are black, but not all black birds are ravens. Something like that. And yeah, there are younger right wingers too, but most of them learned it from their parents.
ReplyDeleteMy in-laws are in their 80's and are the same staunch liberals they always were. I once had a college instructor tell me that when I got older and got money I would become a Republican. Must be the money thing because I'm still not a Republican and I'm 56. I'm the same bleeding heart liberal I've always been. So is my mother, who is approaching 80.
My parents are 77, born in a red state, and they are two of the most progressive people I've ever met. So no, not all old folks are the same.
ReplyDeleteStick a fork in Lord Lardass. The only thing better than the Porcine Prince fading into obscurity would be to see his fat sorry ass thrown into a Domincan prison for his raping children. A lifetime of sexual abuse at the hands of others somewhat approaches what he actually deserves.
ReplyDelete"There's really no difference between right and left wing propaganda. Most networks and stations have an agenda and both leave out important information."
ReplyDeleteHave you been living on the planet Mars where there is not talk radio?
Left leaning talk show host are Educated, Informed and Well read AND They Deal in Facts.
People who listen to left-leaning talk shows are like-wise show host are Educated, Informed and Well read AND They Deal in Facts.
Limballs, Sean, O'reilly, and that lot just pull stuff out of their a****.
The people who listen to this bunch are ignorant, un-educated and most likely read on a second grade level, if that.
I'm just happy if I can find a radio station playing music other than top 40, or Jack format, which means I listen to either a rock station, classical or Bluegrass radio. I can't stand all this chatter, chatter, chatter - like a bunch of gossips hanging out at the barber shop or in the beauty parlor.
ReplyDeleteM from MD
Couldn't happen to the oxycontin addicted fat bloviator and "purty boy Sean" soon enough.
ReplyDeleteThey're circling the toilet that Beck and Palin went down, hope the ty d bowl man's boat is well maintained, with turds that big, it could be a wild ride!
Thanks for the good news, Gryph!
You bigoted, opininated, spitfule morlocks are all headed for a national poltical cleansing coming soon to a town near you. When the pogrom startsit will be all leftist, progressives, near do wells, political unwashed morons like yourselves so just keep it up piss ants.
ReplyDeleteSooner or later the Establisment Power Structure in America will order a couple of sarin gas cannisters dropped strategically in each blue state libtard area and Occupy this towns and well in a few weeks only the stench of rotting libtards will prevail...no more Occupy This or That, no more weeping willow liberals or commies progressives ...just the blissful smell of nature cleansing the Earth of non-believers and Godless peoples fron the Earth.
And then God will beg his people to repopulate the his Earth with faitful righteous people. And I got dibs on on Bill Mahers Porche.
