Courtesy of the Washington Post:
Vacationing here, Obama and wife Michelle were visiting Marines at a military base in Kaneohe Bay during a holiday dinner in the mess hall when he came upon a baby boy in a red sweater vest and plaid shorts in American red-white-and-blue.
“What’s going on, man? How ya doing?” Obama asked the boy, 8-month-old Cooper Wall Wagner, according to a press pool report.
Obama lifted the baby from the hands of his parents, Capt. Greg Wagner, 25, and Meredith Wagner, 27, and held him over his shoulder. Holding and kissing babies for photo ops, that’s what presidents do.
Acting predictably unpredictable, that’s what babies do.
Deftly outmaneuvering Secret Service, Cooper, hands wandering, reached toward the president’s nose before sticking some of his fingers into the Obama’s mouth — an image captured for posterity by news photographers at the scene.
The president played along merrily.
“See that big nose and say, ‘I want some of that big nose,’” he was heard saying.
As I have mentioned before I put a lot of stock in how babies interact with people. They are often very good good judges of character.
And they DON'T put their fingers in the mouths of people they don't feel a connection with.
I can only imagine how Fox News and the right wing media will spin this image.
I imagine something like "President bites baby's hand."
Just saw the clip on msnbc live, and it made me grin from ear to ear. The look on President Obama's face is just priceless.
ReplyDeleteCan you imagine Trig putting his hand in that cesspool under Sarah's nose? He could get herpes warts on his hand! Maybe that's why she holds him outward, like a priest showing the sacrament.
Yeah, I can see a "breaking news" bug flash on the corner of the screen, "Desperate Obama eats white baby's hand to get press attention"
I think the tide's turning. Two contenders legally made the cut to caucus in Virginia- huge mistake- just before the infusion of cash from the GOP.
Where's the Secret Service when you need'em..........?
ReplyDeleteCNN just aired the footage. The reporter referred to The President as the Baby Whisperer. Maybe Obama needs to send each Tea Bagging Congressperson a pacifier.
ReplyDeleteTodd will not touch Sarah's lips... he knows what her lips have been wrapped around.
ReplyDeleteMaybe why you never see him kiss her...
Adorable! Cue the flying monkey outrage in 3, 2, 1......
ReplyDeleteIt's an annual Muslim tradition to chew the hand off a white Christian baby. At least according to Glen Beck.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of Presidential vacations, many newspapers are deriding President Obama for never being in the White House, always on vacation.
ReplyDeleteOf course, none of them did any ACTUAL research.
Let's crunch some numbers, which I took from CBS.
Jimmy Carter took 79 vacation days in 4 years.
Bill Clinton took 152 days in 8 years.
Ronald Reagan took 335 days in 8 years.
George Bush Sr. took 543 days in 4 years.
In their first year in office:
Obama - 26 days
Clinton - 19 days
George W. Bush - 69 days
Total so far for Obama: 2009 - 2011 = 70 days
Obama's predecessor gets his own section, as he is the undisputed record holder.
George W. Bush eight year totals:
487 days at Camp David
490 days at Crawford Ranch
43 days at Kennebunkport Compound
Total: 1020 days, more than 1/3rd of his presidency.

ReplyDeleteI doubt if Glenn Rice kissed the skank during their romantic encounter. She did all the work and then went home to Todd.
Fox News headline would probably read, "President mauls baby, eats him alive."
ReplyDeleteKnow what Michelle is saying to this baby?

I just now found this! Love it!

Cute!

Over the last three years, we have learned that there are, thankfully, key differences between George W. Bush and Barack Obama. This, particularly, is a shining example of, arguably, the funniest one: Obama's ability to please, silence and nurture babies and Bush's ability to put the fear of a thousand deaths in their eyes with but a single touch.

An Anon suggested we send pacifiers to all the Tea Party politicians. I think that is a good idea!
ReplyDeleteThat baby is obviously unclear on the fist bump concept, but good try anyway.
ReplyDeleteI think President Obama really is the Baby Whisperer.
ReplyDeleteI think I know one reason for his success with babies and children: LOVE!
I think the President was very much loved as a child, that he shares this love with his beautiful wife and daughters, and he extends this gentle love to those who can receive it, most noticably, the innocent among us.
It just looks to me like he has had a lot of practice holding, comforting, loving, laughing with children.
God bless President Obama and his family!
Or, "President steals candy from a baby, redistributes to Muslim children NOT celebrating Christmas."
ReplyDeleteGreat article on the clown car carrying aspiring GOP nominees:
ReplyDeleteWhile the fierce anti-government absolutism of the 75 percent is the renewal of a creed that dates back to the Goldwater era, the cultural revolution is a recent phenomenon. Sarah Palin was the pioneer. Her ascent to the McCain ticket was almost immediately followed by the revelation of the out-of-wedlock pregnancy of her daughter Bristol. Enthralled with Bristol’s grizzly mama, the party instantly forgave the transgression, which the younger Palin would shamelessly turn into a multimedia show-business career, replete with an ungainly stint on Dancing With the Stars. (Another klutz and lapsed GOP moral scold, Tom DeLay, had preceded her onto that dance floor.) The messiness of the Palins’ domestic arrangements, later merchandised by the family’s own reality series, was applauded, not condemned, by their fan base. “She is beautiful, well spoken, and a sinner, but aren’t we all?” was Sean Hannity’s take on Bristol. Had she or her mother or perhaps even Levi Johnston had a “wardrobe malfunction” on-camera tantamount to Janet Jackson’s notorious Super Bowl misadventure, chances are the 75 percent would have ridiculed any public condemnations as a humorless overreach by insufferably p.c. liberals. It’s impossible to imagine the new GOP majority following the right’s previous template of demanding that the Federal Communications Commission punish any offending network.
This relaxed moral flexibility has been highly visible as Trump, Cain, and Gingrich have enjoyed their star turns in the Republican field this year.

Love and peace to President Obama, his wife, and his children.
ReplyDeleteThe link showing W with a couple babies was a hoot. Now I kinda see where Palin got her baby-holdin' skills. Looks like he was giving the one little tyke in green a wedgie to last a lifetime.
ReplyDeleteObama radiates with a natural glow around children and animals. He has good soul.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if Palin, who seems fake and forced around children and who senselessly kills animals is haunted by the ghost of little Christine-Taylor Green.
It's obvious that Obama is calm with babies -- like Cesar Millan is with dogs. Dogs LOVE Cesar because he is CALM and reassuring -- he exudes it and so does Obama. Wouldn't YOU love a hug from him -- or Cesar? I would.
ReplyDelete'High-fivin' the president...grabbing the president's face...
ReplyDeleteThese American children will grow up to be decent human beings and wholesome citizens. No matter what they've been taught about anything.
Good job, President Obama.
I don't give a shit how and when the man takes a vacation. _When_ is he ever really off the clock?
ReplyDeleteAny of us that have worked on-call and responsible for anything important know that it is NECESSARY to have down time in order to do a good job.
How many people would intentionally choose a doctor/surgeon that never had a day off?
The well-known and well-documented issues of over-working a human being clearly indicate that the president of the United States NEEDS to take routine vacations. We must INSIST that he does!
This whole issue is just incredibly stingy and foolish.
