I found this to be very interesting, in that I remember how many people were dismissing this President as being too conciliatory to get the top military brass to respect him.Clearly they, like just about everybody else, underestimated him.
Always a mistake.
They always underestimate President Obama. But he is one tough guy. He speaks softly, but is tough as steel.
ReplyDeleteI am SO proud of him.
And I'm sure the right will spin this as an attempt by Obama to take over the nation! Military good.
ReplyDeleteReining in overspending and over-reaching of the military BAD.

ReplyDeleteSpend no time caring about what the Repubs will say, or how they will spin things. It is par for the course that they will do these things.
Just relish in the fact that President Obama is a doing a great job.
Don't bring negative to good reports.
That interview would be so much better if the person being interviewed was allowed to make a point and/or finish a statement
ReplyDelete"Media" people think they are the news rather than their guests
I agree. That general acted like the top brass was some good old boys club.
ReplyDeleteThat general on down should be dismissed. Nothing was funny about it.
More racism. More repugbagging.
This was very interesting. Thank you for posting it G. I will look for this book. (I also agree with TS who said that the interview would have been much better if the author had been allowed to finish his sentences!)
ReplyDeleteI respect, admire, appreciate his intelligence and humor. And I trust him.
ReplyDeleteNo President gives 100% of what he'd campaigned on. President Obama has tried or he's changed of course because of new data. He's has done a whole lot for the UNITED STATES.
What people are complaining about is chicken feed. Although I believe the so-called pundits are doing most of the complaining.
Yep, President Obama proves them wrong so many times, I've lost count.
He is a class act and it is too bad people don't read and know how much President Obama has done for our country and its people. All in the face of racism, blocking, horrendous depictions of the first family members and a display of total ignorance and hatred from the right wing nuts.
ReplyDeleteI have no ides the measureable influence our wonderful 1st lady has had in the incredible growth of school and community gardens. However, in our state it is evident that the idea is embraced throughout and more school gardens are continuing to become part of the curriculum and positive activities since the Obama's occupied the White House. How great is that?
TS...yeah, Chris Matthews is the worst for rudeness and interrupting. He would have made a great Fox News host.
ReplyDeleteActually, if you read Bob Woodward's "Obama's Wars" you'll come away very impressed with how determined he was to map out a clear plan for the Afghanistan war. For years, that war had devolved into mission creep, scope, and outright mission incoherence. Obama made sure things got put in writing and strategically dealt with all the different military powers who jockey for position in a presidential administration.
ReplyDeleteI've read part of the Michael Hastings book about McJagoff... NAILED IT...
ReplyDelete"O" should have fired him months before he did AND the other part of the dumbest-duo-ever-to-put-on-a-uniform, Betrayus, should have been dispensed with BEFORE McNumnuts.... BUT, got him too.... ALL GOOD....
GREAT book....
Brutal!

He had been warned off of McKrystal by many liberals.
ReplyDeleteIt is possible that Obama felt like McKrystal was the most logical choice based on experience and seniority, but he was a prima donna and a PR hog, and those are not good characteristics in a military officer.
Gryph, thanks for posting this. I missed Hardball last night and was interested in what Hastings had to say (saw him on Maddow's show earlier but I think he was more forthcoming in this interview).
ReplyDeleteChris Matthews isn't going to change, being an opinionated loud-mouth is just who he is. But he's not meanspirited, he has a good heart.
I think Obama's number #1 priority for the past 3 years has been to live up to the promises he made on the campaign trail. He no doubt agonized about the Afghan decision to increase troops, and IMHO should have heeded Biden's advice. Chris Matthews is right; Afghanistan needs to be left in peace to govern (or not) itself.
After the way he's been treated (walked/stomped on by the GOP), I think POTUS has had enough. He's going to aggressively pursue what he thinks is right and show that he's had it with being treated worse than a potted plant.
Congress or some watchdog group needs to actively pursue the dollars that are/were being poured into contractors' wallets. The Bush wars have unjustly enriched a lot of people with the same despicable ethics as Blackwater's CEO.
To give you idea of where the media's mind is now, here's a tweet from Reuters' reporter Sam Youngman today:
If not for this magnificently turbulent day on the trail, POTUS would be taking it on the chin for Disneyworld visit.
The best the GOP can do is attack POTUS for going to Disneyland (what's more all-American than that) while also laying into him for "no trade policy" and for discouraging visitors to Las Vegas. All while the US has wasted billions of dollars on (endless, unnecessary) wars. The disconnect is breathtaking.
