I wondered why my computer had been running so slow. Opened it up and found this.

"One ringy dingy, two ringy dingies.."

Anybody remember Lily Tomlin as Ernestine the telephone operator? Or did I just illustrate how freaking old I am again?

In all seriousness I did just get a whole new computer, which started out, as these things often do, with my asking my fried Dennis Zaki if he could help me speed my old one up a little.

Long story short, that upgrade turned into Dennis and I building a whole new, blazingly fast, computer.

Part way through I expressed some concern that Dennis may have bitten off more than he could chew because we had run into a snag.

"Don't you have any faith in me?" He asked.

"What part of 'I'm and Atheist' don't you get?" I replied.

However Dennis did indeed succeed in putting together a very impressive computer that runs circles around my old one, which was about five years old, and already out of date when I took it out of the box.

So this is actually my way of saying "Thank you Dennis. And yes, NOW I have faith in you."

See how that works?

Thought I was gonna see a hamster on a wheel when I scrolled down, but I love the Lily Tomlin analogy. Of course I remember Ernestine back in the days of "Ma Bell"! "Gracious good afternoon!" Who remembers Edith Ann, as well? Laugh-In will always rule with me.

    Congrats on your new hardware!

Congrats on the fast computer. There is nothing so wonderful as getting there whisper quick.

And I absolutely loved Ernestine--which dates me too.

Come on Gryphen, you're not that old. I remember Ernestine and I remember Margaret, the operator in my small town who miraculously appeared at the end of the phone when you picked it up - much to my delight as a toddler. Telephone numbers reflected the order in which the telephone had been acquired. Ours was 46.

Dennis, any time you'd like to visit, my computer and I welcome you with open arms. :)

  7. Don't feel bad.
Those of us that remember Ernestine also remember the real newt gingrich, not the reinvented one or the one palin keeps offering up.
We remember his Congressional, speaker and disgraced years.

    Nice pic Gryph.

I hope you got a 6 core I7 with 16gigs of ram, a 250 gig SSD, and a pair of SLI Geforce GTX 550.

Bill Gates once said if GM had kept up with technology like the computer industry has, we would all be driving $25 cars that got 1000 MPG.

I not only remember Lily and "have I reached the party to whom I am speaking?", but I had a job working at an answering service on one of those PBX boards with 100 lines. That was definitesy the 'olden days'.

Thanks for the monday morning laugh.

Awww - the wonderful days of Rowan & Martin where Lily was great! Arte Johnson was always after Ruth and Goldie Hawn was hillarious!
