Morality is not determined by the church you attend nor the faith you embrace. It is determined by the quality of your character and the positive impact you have on those you meet along your journey

It's Sunday so I thought it would be nice to have Ricky Gervais read a little something from the Bible.
If you are somewhat sensitive about religion, or lack a sense of humor when it is directed toward the Bible, you might want to skip this video.
However if you are anything like me, you should LOVE this.
That little bit at the end about the vicar who kept forgetting his football kit and his catchphrase "Don't wash it like that, give it here." Curiously, that is one of the things that has been offered up to explain the conduct of an American football coach accused of "showering" with the boys.
10% of the UK adult population claim go to church at least weekly. In the US 40% claim to attend church regularly. Pollsters believe even these figures are inflated. It is unlikely that the UK numbers will trend in the direction of the US numbers. It will take time, but organized religion is on its way to extinction in the developed world.
Great way to begin 2012! Thanks for posting this, Gryphen! "There is no religion higher than Truth," as the saying goes ... Gervais really nails it here.
And, as Barbara Carlson 6:13 AM points out -- people were 'cheering, laughing and applauding.' We're (thankfully!!)a long way from the Dixie Chicks vilification for their one, slightly snarky comment about W.
So, to the likes of Billy Graham and other hypocrites who would be offended by this brilliant rant, I say "Suck it!"
I absolutely adore Ricky Gervais, and I am a practicing Christian.
Love him, love him, love him. He's hilarious!
I don't have a problem with his stance on fundamentalist religion or atheism.
So many of us do not take the bible literally. We follow Christ's teachings, yes, but much of the rest of it is poetic allegory and/or a mish mosh of various sources.
I can promise you a bunch of those people who were laughing were practicing Christians, as well.
It amazes me how so many believe we are only the most narrow-minded representatives of our faith. It's like saying all Muslims are as conservative as the Mullahs in Iran or all Jews are as conservative as the Hasidim. Silly, isn't it?
What I like most about Ricky is how he toes the line. He's funny without being offensive. This particular piece, in particular, uses the stories in the Bible to illustrate his point
