President Obama greets Gabby Giffords with hug. Update!

My favorite part of the speech so far. (Get your tissues ready.)

Video courtesy of the Washington Post.

Here is the full text of the State of the Union speech.  I will put up the video later when the speech is over.

This is going to trip up some Republicans:

I'm a Democrat. But I believe what Republican Abraham Lincoln believed: That Government should do for people only what they cannot do better by themselves, and no more. That's why my education reform offers more competition, and more control for schools and States. That's why we're getting rid of regulations that don't work. That's why our health care law relies on a reformed private market, not a Government program.

You could almost hear the GOP sphincters closing up. all over the room.

Update: I can't get enough of this.

Courtesy of the Obama Diary.
Update 2: Below is the entire 62 minutes of the President's State of the Union speech.  If you did not get to watch it, I VERY much encourage you to take to the time to do so now. It was extremely good, extremely inspiring, and extremely important to see in order to understand what our President is doing for us, and what he needs from us. P.S. Wrong video now replaced by 2012 video. Sorry.

    You see that $arah?

YOU Might have been invited to the State of the Union

YOU might have been able to greet Gabby on the floor of the House

YOU might have been invited to the after parties

YOU WOULD have gained stature and many points for just saying "yes, maybe my rhetoric was a bit over the top after the shootings.

YOU WOULD have gained just a little bit of crediblity from most Americans after the shooting if you had got off your lazy ass, and flown to Tucson for the memorial
and been humble enough to sit in the crowd and pay your respects to the dead.

YOU HAD the opportunity of a lifetime handed to you to resurrect credibility with voters beyond the PBotz circle, but you were too mean, too hateful, and too savagely intent on nursing grudges than reaching out to suffering people.

IF YOU had even expresed some decent human feelings toward the victims and towards Gabby, and publicly denounced violence, you would be a better person for it.

Golly Gee $arah, it might even the Christian thing to do, what about that?

But there you sit in your isolation in Wasilla chewing your nails, pulling out your hair, and scheming on the next nasty thing you can say about the President, Gabby, and all the people in power, and you're just an old washed up hag now.

Sarah, you ARE schackled, you just can't see that the chains are made from hatred, and the lock is your own sad delusion and mental sickness.

If states enact President Obama's suggested law that one must remain in school until one graduates or reaches the age of 18, the Palins luckily missed out. (However, there still is Piper.)

How pathetic is it the Pretender to the Presidency, Sarah Palin has three children who have not completed high school (except through an extorted GED) and have no real job skills except in procreation.

I am in-between. I don't care one way or the other what party he is. I try to support whomever is in office. If my person doesn't get in, hey, I will work ten times harder in the next election. I am really disappointed when people who are party-liners try to make it one way or the other, instead of being happy for the country when things go well.

Our President did well and I am proud of him. I am not proud of him as a Democrat, I am proud of him as a leader, and as a role model. He articulated what mattered to him, and what mattered to the rest of us. I'm glad we can all agree.

Pain Capital: Jon Stewart Destroys Mitt Romney Over His Tax Returns

After finding out Romney’s combined income came out to $56,986 a day, Stewart exploded in an incredulous rage.

“That’ses almost–that’s almost $57,000 a day!” Stewart exclaimed. “Here is the most amazing part: the guy doesn’t even have a job! That is f*cking interest! That is the kind of money that might lead a man to make stupidly extravagant out-of-touch impulse bets!”

Stewart then aired Romney’s infamous $10,000 bet to Rick Perry.

“How in the world do you — Mitt Romney justify making more in one day than the median American family makes in a year while paying an effective tax rate of the guy who scans your shoes at the airport!” Stewart asked.

Mitch Daniels was ridiculous. They made sure to have him use more common vernacular, stuff I doubt he would say himself, much less say in a nationally televised speech - phrases like "jacked up" and calling stuff "dumb". Going for the NASCAR dads or something? Completely contrived, and it fell flat anyway. So negative, so gloom and doom, and full of lies and distortions as usual.

This gracious display compared to the madness displayed by the GOP candidates and some GOP spokespeople has demonstrated to Americans, I think, how embarrassing and foolish and irrational they've become.

Sean Hannity tonight referred to the "anointed one's State of the Union Address". This disgusting man couldn't even respectfully address President Obama by his title and name. What Fox is showing is it's true unmasked hatred. But the nation is finally seeing who Sean and other's like him TRUE master is, and it isn't the Lord and Savior that they pretend to serve.

One can only imagine how a Romney would feel if they needed emergency hospital care and the nurse that was reading their vital signs and keeping their equipment in working order, like IV's and breathing tubes, was overworked, overtired, underpaid, stressed from trying to pay bills from their $54,000/year job.

Or knowing that their pilot was working overtime, and just found out that his/her work hours were reduced to a mere part-time schedule and he/she was losing benefits, including health benefits.

Mitt and his ilk need to wake up and get into the minds of the real folks. Newt as well. Who could trust him, he who would fork out several hundred thousand dollars to buy jewellery for his wife, while his campaign aides are probably being paid peanuts and working their backsides off.

I think these past few days are very revealing and becoming the wake up call to those tea partiers who thought these clowns were pursuing the nomination in teapartiers best interests.

This is the first time I've ever even tried to sit through anyone's political speech (preferring to listen later to any "highlights").

I got distracted and could not reach the remote, and ended up getting sucked in to watching the entire thing (fortunately...it was historic.)

What was a real eye opener for me was to watch it with someone who has NO interest in politics, whatsoever...asking me "Now, just WHAT kind of an asshole could possibly be against what he just said?"

I'd wait til the camera found a squirming in his seat like he was having a hemorrhoid attack Eric Cantor, and say, "Him."

I quickly turned off the tv once it was over, not wanting to be angered by fools claiming the whole effort at encouraging UNITY was nothing more than a campaign speech.

As if what he was SUPPOSED to say was that the country is completely screwed up, and we should just give up and die.

While I watched some half hearted clapping by Boehner and others who must have realized the camera was on them as they were being bitchslapped by the President, I'm afraid that tomorrow, the meetings will commence, on how to sabotage things so that Obama doesn't continue to look so good.

It was nice to feel like we were all one, big, happy nation of eager beavers, hoping to make America great once again...but sadly, things will go right back to the way they were, tomorrow.

    Oh God, the F'n "rebuttal".

How in the heck is this even allowed. Can you imagine a Democrat "rebutting" President Bush? And who exactly is this ....person... that they got to "rebut"?

    6:35 PM, Hedgewytch

The rebuttal is a tradition. If the President is a Democrat, a Republican (chosen by his/her peers) gives the rebuttal, and vice versa.

6:05 pm. If you've been awake at all during the last three years, you will have noticed that laws are passed by Congress. That's been President Obama's biggest problem especially since the tea baggers have controlled the House since the 2010 election. Or didn't you notice.

Can someone tell me who the man sitting beside Gabby was? I noticed that he was so nice to her...observed him gently helping her stand and sit back down. Since it was "date night" seating, he must be a repug?

My husband insists on having closed captioning so that when it would show people, I couldn't read their names.

In your dreams buddy. Our Distinguished President doesn't know she was even born.

Why would he want to get stank on him?

Sarah tried to approach Obama at one of those White House correspondents dinners, but she was blocked. No one wants her near the President.

    6:41 PM"

That was so funny. She was anxiously standing behind him trying to get his attention. It was like clockwork joe pushed her aside like some Justin Bieber fan.

Anon 5:34: it was AZ rep Jeff Flake, a republican running for Senate. He was extremely classy about it and even took a little heat on Twitter from idiots. Interestingly, Gabby might have run against him had she not been shot.

I thought it set a nice tone, as did our president's warm greeting to everyone in the chamber. Did you notice how friendly and familiar he was to Boehner. It clearly made the speaker squirm because he knew the constituents were watching! Obama is so freaking shrewd. Hehheh.

He's got this. We've got his back! Obama2012!

  89. Man, its too difficult to see Rep. Giffords and not be pissed to death about sarah's az massacre.

But she is the REAL woman and her husband is a REAL man.

    9:23 PM

You know what? I don't think Mitt would care about any of that. He would just consider those people as insignificant collateral damage. He has said as much.

I watched the entire thing on plasma. Gabby's husband's eyes glistened and lit up when she appeared and I got choked up. Then seeing Gabby embraced and rocked by President Obama, the waterworks started. My husband, whom I've seen cry maybe a dozen times in 26 years, asked me for a tissue because his "eyeballs were sweating". ;o)

I loved this speech, I have to admit that I expected something totally different, but he nailed every point quite succinctly.

The people we network with while working the phones for OFA were calling us and saying "Did you see that? Wow!"

The republican rebuttal was a sugar coated shit sadwitch. Daniels is full of it.Obama is lieing about the economy growing, Apple creates jobs- 700 thousand in singapore, about 30,000 retail jobs here, The gm cost us too much in stimulus money- WTF? "Bossy Government" the benefits of Keystone Trans Canada XL to the economy, jobs, and energy independance. That XL pipeline is the biggest threat to our drinking water. The commercials all but admit it by saying they'll "seal all drinking wells". The amount of water needed to "frack" is enormous, and has to be filtered - not very cost effective.

    Obama 2012!

P.S. Sorry, Sarah, President Obama doesn't do "skank"
