Rachel Maddow covers President Obama's decision to FINALLY bypass the Congress and appoint a director to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

This is about damn time.

I think President Obama has finally run out of patience with the obstructionism of the Republicans and is going to start treating them like the immature children that they are.

  1. He should do like Teddy Roosevelt and make 160 recess appointments in one afternoon.
Clinton made 139 recess appointments. Bush made 171 recess appointments. President Obama has made 29 recess appointments. Now go call your asshole Repub congressperson and chew them out.

  2. He gave them enough rope to hang themselves. As Andrew Sullivan says, "Meep, meep."

Don't underestimate Obama. He has a very long game. But he's not just a politician -- he's as close to a statesman America has had in a long time. He knows how desperately American needs to undo the religious stranglehold on governing.

Separation of church and state is constitutional & even Reagan understood this --

"We establish no religion in this country, we command no worship, we mandate no belief, nor will we ever. Church and state are, and must remain, separate.

All are free to believe or not believe, all are free to practice a faith or not, and those who believe are free, and should be free, to to speak of and act on their belief.

At the same time that our Constitution prohibits state establishment of religion, it protects the free exercise of all religions. And walking this fine line requires government to be strictly neutral."

America is at a critical crossroads. Next November which way will it vote? With the brainwashed half of America not believing in evolution, it will be close run thing...

The Repubs have spent 3 years obstructing, and refusing to help the American people, refusing to help this country go forward. All because we elected a Black Democrat. They will pay in November at the ballot box..

A very smart move on Obama's part was that making the appointment when he did means the appointment will last through the end of 2013, rather than through the end of 2012.

Sarah is going to be the keynote speaker in at CPAC after declining for four years. What is up with that? She is ensuring that she stays relevant...

I think President Obama realizes this is an election year. He would never do this otherwise since he cares more about not pissing off repugs than he does about pleasing those of us who voted for him.

Really? Why not? What the hell are you doing here then if you don't care what she is doing? The posts about Sarah have many more comments than the posts not about Sarah so obviously, your "most of us" includes just you and your fellow welovesarahtrolls. I would have taken your post seriously until you got to the "most of us" part.

As a dedicated progressive and liberal who has been very vocally unhappy with Obama for his frequent, unnecessary, and/or advance capitulation to Repugs and conservatives, but also as someone who believes in giving credit where its due, I applaud Obama for doing this.

It's just too damn bad that he allowed so many OTHER of his nominations to be held hostage by the Repugs in congress.

For instance, he could have appointed Elizabeth Warren this way - why didn't he?

On second thought, I'm withdrawing the credit. I don't think Obama deserves credit for actually doing what he was elected to do and for doing for once what he should have been doing all along.

Its easy for all of US to sit back and armchair quarterback the Presidential situation...but I suspect its a lot more difficult than it appears.

I just hope that in his SECOND term, with nowhere to aspire to, politically, after that, Obama can act in a way that does not have to help him win a next election.

He'll want to keep it toned down somewhat, in order not to scare Middle America off from keeping Democrats in office AFTER his tenure--but all the pussyfooting that WE have forced on him, this first term, can change to carrying Teddy Roosevelt's BIG STICK.

Problem is, the office of President only allows for a finite amount of action...if Americans surround him with another gaggle of Republican legislators, he could be choked off from helping us recover from the insanity of the conservative push toward bankrupting the nation.

Obviously they don't know Her Heinous, our $arah.

She will deny at the last minute that she was ever scheduled, leaving the event planners in the lurch.

However, she will let this be in the news without acknowledging so that those who lust for her will send more money to SarahPAC.

For a Rogue, she is sooooooooooo predictable.

Go Mr President! It's about damn time, and with Congress's ratings at an all time low, the timing is perfect!

I was watching this clip while watching the Sarah "High Hair" interview on Fox, and couldn't help but notice the ticker across the bottom of the screen was saying the opposite of what was coming out of her pie hole. Spending is up, consumer confindence is up, the stocks are going up.... And Dirty Wig was yammering away at the economy that's all Obama's fault.
