Tomorrow the President will sign Gabrielle Giffords final bill into law.

President Obama will sign the last piece of legislation sponsored by former representative Gabrielle Giffords on Friday, the White House announced today.

The Arizona Democrat and her husband, Mark Kelly, as well as Vice President Biden will be on hand in the Oval Office for the signing. The legislation — known as the Ultralight Aircraft Smuggling Prevention Act of 2012 — gives law enforcement greater authority to combat drug trafficking between the U.S.-Mexico and U.S.-Canada borders.

The bill was the last piece of legislation that Giffords voted on before she resigned on Jan. 25 to focus her attention on her recovery from injuries she suffered during a January 2011 shooting rampage in Tucson. Six people were killed and 13 injured in the shooting.

Nobody in their right mind would have tried to clock this piece of legislation, and I am very glad that Gabby will be there to see it signed into law.

We better have our tissues handy.

Too bad it wasn't gun control, a health care single payer bill, or a "kick stupid GOP leaders out" bill, huh? Still, I'm glad to see this, and I do hope she can run again someday, if she chooses to. Such a wonderful woman.

He should have waited until 4:30pm Saturday (when Palin speaks at CPAC)to sign it. But he wouldn't do that, would he? He has too much class.

    Happy for Gabby!

Pretty sad that grifter Sarah Palin will be in town the same time to receive an award for Woman of the Year while Gabby Giffords the people's real Woman of the Year is with President Obama signing a bill into law then she will leave to go home to recover from a bullet in the head from the rifle cross hairs placed on her head from the woman getting the Woman of the Year award...

I guess Sarah Palin is sorta like the Tonya Harding of politics trying to take out her opponent.

All this is going on while Sarah Palin's failed reality tv actress daughter single mother of at least two children Bristol is hawking her Amazon Best Seller Ranked at #1,226,990 book at the Wasilla Hill Billy White Trash Flea Market in Washington DC.

    Stay classy Palins!

this is off topic but the post above mentions that IRS needs to look into this family of grifters. I agree.

Right now in Ohio there is trial going on nailing a former county commissioner for all kinds of kickbacks etc. Today they discussed him getting his swimming pool, yard work, and house remodels done for free in exchange for govt. contracts. Sound familiar? WHY haven't the Palins and friends been caught?

They should give Wasilla whistle blowers a cut of the money the Palins scammed for the conviction of that family.

  6. Gabby Giffords is a real heroine. She, unlike, the grifter shows resolve, beauty and dignity. Unlike the Grifter who will appear Saturday in her bad wig, nasty clothes, and rascist comments. Go, Grifter, you are a has been, so is Brisket. Your face lift did no good. Should have done your Turkey neck at the same time.

Well if you take away 1,226,989 books ahead of Bristol's book, I guess you can say Bristol's book is ranked No. 1

That's one way of spinning it, am I right Willow?

Sorry you missed the awards due to your lamaze class and that you don't want your water leaking in DC.

I guess leaking in Wasilla makes you smarter than your mom's pretend leakage in Texas.

Gryphen, you always seem to find that perfect picture to encapsulate your posts.

What a beautiful, heart warming, hopeful embrace in that photograph.

    Thank you.

For commenter @6:45 pm: there is a bonus reward given by the IRS under a whistleblower statute to anyone who reports tax fraud that has actually been committed. The reward is 15% of the amount the IRS collects, with a cap of $10 million. Here's how to do it:

As for Gabby and the president hugging, I think they both have received so many death threats that they are like soul brother and sister. They both know that in this world of hate, they each live only day to day. He knows that it could have been him, and not her, and so does she. That makes their hug very poignant.

Gabby is such a class act. Palin's blood libel remark (after the crosshairs on Gabby and others) should have put an end to Palin. What a shame that the media keeps her in the spotlight for nothing more than ratings.

  13. A young african-american boy asked the President if he could touch his hair to see if it felt like his:

I was about that age and one of 2 caucasian kids in my school. My mother tells a story of me coming home from kindergarten crying because I had "the wrong kind of hair". (I had traded a kid a little car for his 'fro pick, and it wouldn't stay in my hair the way it did in his)

  14. It most likely burns Palin's butt that Gabby is so loved, and everyone hates her. I'm sure she doesn't get why. Scott Walker and his people are going down, she is guilty of the same things why is she allowed to slide? Jessie why are so many people afraid of the Palins and her family? Does it have something to do with their involvement with the AIP terrorist? They have been protected by the AKPD, the FBI and others. They are such backward people to have that kind of power. Thank you and all the other AK bloggers who have not been afraid to expose them for who they are. American's don't know how lucky we are that McCain and that skank did not win. McCain proposed the same things they do today, cut taxes for the wealthy (they always leave out the word wealthy) and make them permanent, deregulate, give $5000 vouchers for health care, continue wars and all there other insane destroy America demands. Just think of the Justices McCain would have put in for life. Two more Thomases, Roberts, and Scalias. We must work hard to kick the GOP Greedy One Percent out of every office. I hope enough people have had a belly full of them by now and do just that. Talk about taking away our freedoms since they took over the house and so many states they have gone stark raving mad doing just that. Please don't let them have a complete takeover or that's it we will be without education, a living wage, health care, food and shelter, forced to be soldiers and slaves, with exception of the rich.

  15. What a beautiful picture of two people with beautiful souls!

This is what Baldy will NEVER get...a true heartwarming hug...FROM THE PRESIDENT! It's why she stalks him like a discarded lover!

Which is why she'll be at her snarling best this weekend. Let's not forget it's her birthday on Saturday...and she is two years away from 50!!!

That has got to be fucking with her giant ass head! So for every birthday wish she gets...I'm sure she'll be cringing inside! LOL!!

Long after the name 'Sarah Palin' has faded into a distant and unpleasant memory, the name of Gabby Giffords will be remembered with respect, admiration and affection.

And she will, no doubt, still be trying to make the world a better place in whatever capacity she can.

What a touching photo of two people who have overcome enormous odds in order to continue their work to help others.

After reading her book, everytime I see her with her loving husband I feel inspired. And getting a hug from the POTUS, whew! That, alone brings tears to my eyes.

It's a shame that in one deranged woman's mind, she's the victim of rifle sites, hate speech, and blood libel. She'll never know what true love from a loving spouse really is. She'll never get hugged, let alone recognized by President Obama.

All she has is a purse carrying phillanderer and a disfunctional family, and a closet full of skeletons.

Congratulations, Gabby! I see good things in your future, and if that means returning to the job you love or not, I wish you nothing but the best!

    Gabby is one classy woman!
