Somebody sent this to me another version of this clip recently and I was again reminded that there was a time when Fox News was NOT covering for Palin the way they do today.
This is an interview that Bill O'Reilly did with correspondent Carl Cameron directly after the 2008 campaign, in which Cameron FINALLY gets to unload ALL of the negative things that he heard from the McCain campaign about Caribou Barbie behind the scenes.
As you can see it was quite a lot.
Now in my opinion, there was NEVER a more honest and damaging summation of Palin's vast shortcomings than what was listed here. (Well that is of course until the movie Game Change came along.)
You can look everywhere, on MSNBC, on ABC, on CBS, on CNN, or anywhere you like, and you will not find anything as brutal.
Of course later Palin made her deal with Fox and is now still getting the kid glove treatment which protects her from this kind of honest scrutiny, but in those days immediately following the election she was considered fair game by conservatives and their pet network.
So for you Palin-bots out there who are still drinking the Kool-Aid, and believing that there were only a FEW McCain campaign staff that had problems with Palin, I present to you exhibit A in crushing that ridiculous meme.
So she and Obama have one thing in common. They are islands with few in their true inner circle. We knew that.

The one person responsible for Barack Obama's election to the presidency, aside from Obama himself, is SARAH PALIN. He may have been elected without her help on his talents and abilities alone but it is abundantly clear that she was responsible for a good share of the votes he received.

ReplyDeleteThe only small problem I see is within the last, say 40 seconds or so, when it seems that Cameron tries to subtly steer the ugly reality towards the very first "Sarah as Victim" direction, and says there was "backbiting" going on within the McCain camp. Other than that, it rings SO true to the scenario that eventually came out in Game Change. The best remark was just about cut off--when Billo, disturbed to be confronting the truth about the GOP Dream Date, tries to wave it off and says "There's a book in this..." Whoopsie!

I saw Bristol and Gino at the store yesterday, and Bristol was so thin that I didn't recognize her. I was in line behind them and I didn't let on that I recognized them (I know Gino's Mother Dianne but haven't seen Gino since he was maybe 15 years old). Anyway, I didn't say anything to either of them but Bristol is very, very thin, maybe too thin? I was shocked to see how thin she is but maybe she's been working out and eating too little? They got into the TRIPP truck with their beer and went on their way.

I wasn't going to bother either her or her boyfriend by recognizing them. Whenever someone runs for public office, we should all be good citizens and learn everything that we can about the candidates. It was obvious the moment that Katie Couric asked Sarah Palin some very basic questions that Sarah was hearing those questions for the first time. Otherwise, she would have given some thought to naming something that she read-- or a Supreme Court decision that she disagreed with. Vetting? Sarah's fans in the GOP were so anxious for her energizing personality that they forgot the basics. And, Sarah couldn't bother with briefing.

Negative thoughts? Sarah chose to run for office, and later to be a public figure, a celebrity. That means that Sarah can be criticized, and her qualifications can be examined. In 2004, Cameron wrote a story posted on the Fox News website which included fabricated quotes from John Kerry; the senator purportedly called himself a "metrosexual" and Bush a "cowboy" and spoke effeminately about a manicure. Official Fox News spokesman Paul Schur later said it was intended to be an internal joke not for publication, and the network apologized for the piece, but only on its website, and only through a tag on the article in which these quotes appeared.[6

Okay .. I listened to it; I made myself listen to it. WTF? Bill O'Reilly is so smitten with Palin:he cannot see truth; he cannot accept the truth. That is one. Then you have the fact that Cameron cites everything we have subsequently learned .. and they are discounted to some degree by O'Reilly. And at the end did I hear Bill say .. "I'm sure there's a book ..." What in the world are we dealing with here?

Anyone else would have taken this once in a lifetime chance,gone home,studied up and became more interested in world history and political issues, finished their term as governor, got tutors, stylists and became more of a total package to stay relevant to the political process. Instead, she went home,quit,tried being a reality star and failed, still spreading her brand of nastiness and stupidity. My brain hurts when I think about her and am convinced that this is about as good as she will ever get given her inability to learn anything. If she wasn't so nasty,I would actually feel some compassion for her as a fellow human being but she lost any chance of that ever happening with her continued hate-spewing rhetoric

BTW..."Game Change" movie did stretch the truth in a few scenes - the one that really annoyed me was the scene where palin was in bed with the pimp discussing the debate and toad was giving her encouragement and then they kissed. NO Freaking Way that happened. Levi already told us that during the campaign, the pimp fell asleep in a recliner on the other side of the suite they shared. In his clothes no less. Levi said the only time they were "together" was when the cameras were rolling. Game Change movie went much easier on the wasillabilly then the actual truth.

The Vice President cannot assume office thinking that Africa is a country, and not knowing which countries are part of North America. (Hint, they might be our neighbors). Sarah was not qualified to be Vice President. Carl Cameron sounds exactly like the book and movie, "Game Change," and he gave this report long before either of them were made public.

Members on C4P actually post whenever an article or blog shows up with something thats negative towards Palin. You've read their posts, so you know they never leave a post that has any substance. Besides, with Palin there is little they can refute.
Palin contended that she was mishandled. I believe she has not changed her mind to today that if she had been allowed to do what she did to be mayor and governor she would have won. If she blatantly lied the hater Scmidt should have had a press conference lying for her. She wanted to get McCain and the staff to lie Obama is a terrorist. Damn them they would not do what she was accustomed to.
ReplyDeletePalin lacks a moral compass, ethics and is void of integrity. The consequences of her behaviors, putting her kids in camera lights and those consequences are all the fault of others. So, how did the DWTS thing work to win her the presidency? How did her reality show, uh documentary, cement her as Reagan reincarnated? Now she clings to being a popular victim. She was entitled to run the country without knowing basic civics.
She claims she was mishandled. But what we all know really happened was that she ran in to a group of very well educated, smart, thoughtful political types who were not charmed by her limited charms. In their world, good looks are often acccompanied by good money and a good education, some world travel and some understanding of the world outside their home towns.
DeleteMy spouse & I went to Wally World today and found several fun people while we were in the check-out line (for an hour). One of the Scandal sheets (Globe, Enquirer or other) had $arahPalin at war with Tom Hanks over Game Change. We read the article aloud, with commentary from several by-standers telling the tales of what THEY remembered. Including the Trig-Tripp, clothes budget, Curic interview and how angry she was towards the end of the campaign. Some had seen the movie and felt "it was pretty good".

One of the most satisfying events of 2008 is when I read the emails between SP and Steve Schmidt regarding Todd's AIP membership. He would not let her lie, or lie on her behalf.
I think this is was the final straw for Schmidt. He could put up with her tantrums, and have script writers and tutors to provide a crutch for her ignorance, but when she lied to him, the last shred of respect was gone.
