"Wait, what I said wasn't smart? Well it sounded smart inside my head!" |
Well, my guess is it has to do either with nuclear arms discussions, or it has to do with missile defense site. What he did both on with nuclear weaponry already and the new START treaty, as well as his decision to withdraw missile defense sites from Poland, and reduce our missile defense sites in Alaska from the original plan.
I mean, these are very unfortunate developments and if he's planning on doing more and suggest to Russia that he has things he's willing to do with them he's no willing to tell the American people, this is to Russia this is without question our number one geopolitical foe, they fight every cause for the world's worst actors, the idea that he has some more flexibility in mind for Russia is very, very troubling indeed.
That statement about Russia being "our number one geopolitical foe" did not go over very well with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev who responded in this way:
“Regarding ideological clichés, every time this or that side uses phrases like ‘enemy number one’, this always alarms me, this smells of Hollywood and certain times (of the past),” Medvedev sniped.
“I would recommend all U.S. presidential candidates … to do two things,” Medvedev added sharply. “First, when phrasing their position one needs to use one’s head, one’s good reason, which would not do harm to a presidential candidate. Also, (one needs to) look at his watch: we are in 2012 and not the mid-1970s.”
Ouch!
And if that wasn't embarrassing enough House Speaker Boehner also took Mitt to task for attacking the President while he was representing America overseas:
“Clearly while the president is overseas, he’s at a conference and while the president is overseas I think it’s appropriate that people not be critical of him or our country.”
It just goes to show, you can appear to be right out of central casting for the role of President, but that does not mean you have what it takes inside to do the job. And apparently what's inside of Mitt Romney right now is a whole lotta stupid!
Perhaps he can get Palin to help in dealing with Russia. I understand she has been staring at them from her front porch for years.
Note that no one feels it necessary to swat at the mosquito and her facebook rants.
ReplyDeleteYes, noted!
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't let her off the hook for questioning the President's patriotism, however, when he is meeting with foreign leaders. We are all one and he represents us when he's on foreign soil.
Policy differences are for domestic discussion, and one never, ever, ever questions the validity of a sitting President to the outside world.
Hear that, Sarah? I know you're a rogue, and all, but you've pushed the boundaries too far too many times.
Oh, Mittens, Mittens, Mittens....this man wants to be president so Bad it is embarassing. But the question is WHY?
ReplyDeleteAs for Russian President Medvedev's response; TOUCHE! Mitt could learn a thing or two about politics from this man. BUt then why bother, Mitt will flip-flop again the next time he opens his mouth.
Romney obviously does not know that the president is unable to alter treaties without the consent of the Senate, which is by definition a very conservative body. No president has the authority to make foreign policy single-handedly. It would do well for Romney, who has allegedly been preening and cameoing for this job for the past ten-plus years, to read a few simple manuals (you know, the Cliff Notes' version of: "What exactly does the president do, anyway?" and, "What exactly are the responsibilities of Congress??").
DeleteRomney keeps sounding as unprepared for the presidency as Sarah Palin was for the vice presidency.
DeleteI am SO glad you covered this in a post; I think this needs to be front and center every day from now til the election; the other candidates (Gingrich and Santorum I think were critical too) but Romney, wow! And to get a verbal slapdown from Medvedev .... well, now don't you think that places the U.S. at more risk than anything they have accused our President of doing? Seriously? And I bet that the other leaders took note of Romney's comment too. If a Republican is elected anytime in the next 12 or more years, we are screwed! Domestically and in the international arena.
ReplyDeleteKind of like when Michael Corleone put the smack-down on Fredo for speaking out against "the Family" in The Godfather...
ReplyDeleteThe Russian President has a great future writing one-liners for political attact ads. He covered most of Romney's blunder succinctly and with needle sharp grace.
ReplyDeleteShould have worked in "etch a sketch", though.
Too bad Romney's ego is too huge and thick to let him realize he's been slapped down hard.
the president is overseas I think it’s appropriate that people not be critical of him or our country.”
ReplyDeleteI am sure mrs todd palin after reading this will sit down, be quite, and act like a nice girl. Ya sure. palin remember if you are not willing to say it face to face then DON'T say it. You do every thing on FB because you know you do not have the brains to defend your actions.

Hmmmmmmm really Gryphen? There you go again, waving the white flag of surrender to the number 1 Mainstreet gtovernment bailout Geo's - our foe's, who seek the destruction of our freedoms and commonsense of our patriots we are so blessed with as such a blessed and exceptional nation in the history of this great young country. It's got to be all about job creation and reduction in taxes and progressin manufacturing to not be some big scary thing that Joe Six-Pack can be rabidly against government not being on our side again. Perhaps the annointed one aught to sit down and shut up when he's oversea's cow tipping against Putin rearin his head against our defensless great State of Alaaassssssskkkkaa. . .
ReplyDeleteI truly don't know whether to applaud or cringe at your stunning mastery of 'word salad'. I mean, you had to travel in some pretty scary areas of your amygdala to access those sentence structures.
DeleteFor now I'm just laughing heartily!
Wow...you are good. It's not easy to imitate her nonsensical writing/speaking style.
DeleteLMAO!!! *Clapping* That was great!
DeleteI just read your comment to my husband in Sarah's voice & he was cracking up. Great Job!
DeleteWow... just... wow. That was scary! Quick, someone get Tina Fey to record that!!
Delete"I understand she has been staring at them from her front porch for years." Also, too, she's been waiting for Putin to rear his head in Alaskan air space. LOL! That was a good line Gryph!
ReplyDeleteIsn't Alaskan air space that empty cavity between Sparklemoose's ears?
DeleteThat one damn eye went rogue (AGAIN)!!! ROTFL
DeleteMighty presidential, Mitt.
ReplyDeleteWow, could Boner actually be defending President Obama?
ReplyDeleteAnonymous 0408 pm
DeleteI wouldn't say he's defending Obama so much as saying RESPECT the President of the United States. The Office of the President. Especially when he's oversees representing our country.
Like the man or not, Obama is President and Commander in Chief or this great country. To dis him to the world while he's out representing us is to disrespect all of us and this great nation he represents.
I'm glad to see Boehner set aside partisan politics and do what's right. Defend the United State in the international arena and to support The President of the United States while he travels representing us (or U.S. if you prefer).
Sarah. Are you taking notes on how a real leader in the Republican Party behaves when talking to outsiders about the reputation of this great country?
Did I miss something?
DeleteI didn't realize Russia was our "number one geopolitical foe"?
The GOP is our number one geopolitical foe.
DeleteBoehner's a wormy weasel, but at least he's one of the old school professional pols who remembers the rules of the game: it's treasonous to criticize the president while he is overseas, representing our country in his official capacity.
ReplyDeleteThis new crop of yokels and idiots need to be reminded how to show respect for the office. You know it's gone too far when Boehner steps up.
Mittens has no mountain left to climb - he's got all the kids, money, houses and wives he either wants or can have; he's reached the very tippy-top rank in his church's bizarre hierarchy; and he's not getting any younger, prettier or better spoken.
ReplyDeletePresident or bust for Mittens.
Well, I vote for bust! A person should be campaigning for the office of the Presidency of the United States because s/he wants to represent the people of the country and do their best to lead with courage and grace, not because it is the most powerful office in the land. President Obama represents us admirably, with courage and grace, and I will be voting for him again.
DeleteRomney and his fellow aspirants for the GOP presidential candidate all are people who would disgrace both the office of the presidency and our country in the eyes of the world.
I prefer "bust" for Mittens.
DeleteBoehner sure puts Sarah in her place too, doesn't he? Wait for it... first amendment rights! free speech! elitists! Come on, Sarah, you know you want to wade right into this swamp. Keep swinging and twitching, and you'll get to know what quicksand feels like when one of these days the Rovenator and his team take you off the game board.

Colbert: Like An Etch A Sketch, Romney Is ‘Square And Colorless’
ReplyDeleteStephen Colbert on Monday addressed the Etch a Sketch kerfuffle plaguing Mitt Romney’s campaign. But what’s the big deal, Colbert asked? LIke the classic toy, Romney is also “square and colorless.”
“People think that was a metaphor for Romney being inconsistent,” Colbert said. “But the Etch a Sketch is very consistent. You can shake it all you want, but all you’re going to be able to draw are stairs.”
And wasn’t Romney senior adviser Eric Fehrnstrom just telling the truth when he let the Etch a Sketch slip? “Why are people trying to turn these comments into something craven?” Colbert said. “He’s just saying that a candidate will say anything to get the nomination, then say anything to get elected, then say anything to get a second term, then stand on principle … for six months, until he’s a lame duck. You know, courage.”

My take on all of this...no one important is paying attention (or even listening) to Sarah's idiotic and juvenile rants since everyone knows she is verifiably nuts; and Boehner's slap down may indicate that Mitt is losing even more favor with the GOP.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your take on the Boner slapdown.
DeleteBoner is a sack of shit who has NEVER spoken out about the TREASONOUS things said about our President when he has been overseas -
those Refuggers love it.
I think this is ALL about smacking Mitt down.
Maybe Mitt was speaking to his elderly supporters who still think we're in a Cold War with Russia. Haha!
ReplyDeleteDmitry and Barack have developed and now enjoy a very warm personal and professional relationship. Mittens was really stupid to go after President Obama and Russia on this 'gaffe' and shows his unseasoned diplomatic lack in glaring neon. Every world leader was in on the joke when President Obama was covering the mike and mocking the incident with a big grin. Mittens has shown himself to be a blustering idiot, unprepared for a national or international stage. Can you even IMAGINE any one of the candidates doing what President Obama is doing at this Summit in S. Korea? It would be catastrophically off the rails and we'd probably find ourselves in any number of wars, grave misunderstandings, breaking of protocol, irreparable damage to cultural bridges...
ReplyDelete...which is why I breathe a huge sigh of relief knowing that my president has GOT THIS!
You can find the grinning pictures as well as a lovely recap of his journey to and meetings in, S. Korea.

Obama 2012
Romney is getting bitch-slapped from many directions!!
ReplyDeleteRetired Gen. Wesley Clark
Former Secretary of the Navy Richard Danzig
OUCH!!!
Retired Gen. Wesley Clark, former NATO Supreme Allied Commander Europe, said Romney's statements sounded like a "rehash of Cold War fears."
"Given the many challenges we face at home and abroad, the American people deserve a full and complete explanation from Governor Romney," Clark said in a statement released by the Democratic National Committee.
Former Secretary of the Navy Richard Danzig compared Romney's Russia analysis to his policies on domestic issues.
"This conclusion, as outdated as his ideas on the economy, energy needs, and social issues, is left over from the last century," Danzig, who served under President Bill Clinton, said in a statement.

LOL, THAT is a slap down, for sure.
DeleteShould be interesting?? Will Jon Stewart pick up on the open mic and Romney's comments together with the Russian President's slapback?? Hmm. He could have great fun with the Russian President's comments!!!
ReplyDeleteAnyone else wonder if that "open" mic was known? Nice way to express solidarity given the saber rattling going on around the country over Iran.
ReplyDeleteAs far as I'm concerned, the only reason Mittens wants to be President is so he and his family can have 24 hr. servants at their beck and call; Travel to far away places around the globe on taxpayer money; Entertain and hobnob with big whig's and celebrities on our dime, as well.
ReplyDeleteIn other words, he and his family enjoys all the perks of office, while paying absolutely nothing.
Ardiva,
DeleteI respectfully disagree.
The man is RICH.
He is Scrooge McDuck, Richie Rich - Rich.
The former Massachusetts governor has disclosed only the broad outlines of his wealth, putting it somewhere from $190 million to $250 million. That easily could make him 50 times richer than Obama, who falls in the still-impressive-to-most-of-us range of $2.2 million to $7.5 million.
"I think it's almost hard to conceptualize what $250 million means," said Shamus Khan, a Columbia University sociologist who studies the wealthy.
"People say Romney made $50,000 a day while not working last year. What do you do with all that money? I can't even imagine spending it. Well, maybe ..."

President = $400,000 a year.
Mitt = $50,000 a day =
8 DAYS.
What *should* scare you is that he is spending TENS of MILLIONS of dollars to make LESS money.
It is *ALL* about *POWER* *POWER* *POWER*!
I hate to say it but KUDOS to John Boehner for putting partisan bullshite aside and defending President Obama. That's what Washington is SUPPOSED to be about. These azzhats are supposed to be there to serve the nation. I full on realize this is an aberration from J.Boehner but it is unexpectedly refreshing in the current, tragically polarized/racist political climate.
ReplyDeleteD O U C H E B A G........
ReplyDeleteWait, What? Boehner has cajone's?
ReplyDeleteSarah Palin facebook rant in production, Appears on Fox in 3..slather lip gloss...2......wig on...........1 spew......
Wait a minute now, here's a better interpretation of how Romney feels and why he said what he did. Romney was just not smart enough to keep his real feelings to himself about Russia. This is no different from many of his othe gaffes.
ReplyDeleteYou see Jesse, Romney was only stupid enough to express the real way most republicans feel about Russia. Russia is indeed America's biggest geopolitical threat. So here's why:
Russia, along with China are the two nations with the nuclear deterrant that could, or possibly would, prevent the US from attacking Iran. And the reason why the US wants to attack Iran and stop them from becoming a nuclear armed nation is because that would give the entire ME the wherewithal to control their own destiny. Hence, control their oil riches in their own interests which would make them powerful and influencial.
And so it's pretty easy to understand that if the US wants to maintain it's ongoing hegemony over the ME and it's oil resources, it needs to bring Russia and China onside with it's future plans. China and Russia have other plans and that's something that Romney knows.
Romney was not wrong, taking it from a rightist American point of view. His mistake was slipping up and voicing the truth that should never be spoken. Basically, he's a clumsy guy who can't avoid the reckless remarks because he's slow at thinking on his feet. The more he's allowed to say, the more truth he will spill his guts over.
In that sense, Russia is America's biggest geopolitical threat.
Okay, I am one of those readers that probably isn't smart enough to understand your deep thoughts....let them eat cake.
DeleteO, gee,
DeleteAnd here *we* were thinking that we were bestest buds with Vlad and *now* that Mittens put his foot in it, we may not be invited to Vlad's birfday party... :(
And *I* heard he was gonna wrestle a bear!
Double :((
No, you understood perfectly well enough. It's not a difficult concept once you start to accept that the US is not in the ME to help little girls go to school or harvest the sprin'g cabbage crop.
DeleteThe fact is, Russia has been the great nuclear equalizer that has saved the world from nuclear war or even world war for over 65 years. You can interpret that as America being the same and vice versa if you like.
My prior message was mainly meant for your own edification and need not be posted. In fact, it would probably be too deep for your audience anyway. I posted it in the hopes it would enlighten you a bit on what's really going on in Romney's head. If you're smart you will take it to heart and let it govern how you speak of Romney in the future. Best to give no impression rather than give the wrong impression.Or in other words, don't paint Romney as stupid, paint him as awkward and careless when he spills the beans on the right's agenda.
ReplyDeleteSo why is a member of the select inner circle such as yourself revealing the right's top secret agenda to us ignorant peons? Don't you have more important work to do?
DeleteThis is the important work I have to do, even though it only reaches a small audience on this blog. My message reaches some larger audiences elsewhere. And I'm happy to hear that it reached you because your short message tells me you understood.
DeleteAnd in other news, McCain defends Romney because he's obviously part of it. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/03/28/john-mccain-john-boehner-mitt-romney-russia_n_1384889.html?ref=topbar
ah, yes, "too deep" for us,
Deletebut you, apparently, have found the "magic" in Mitt's underwear.
Good on'Ya!
